Editorial Reviews
URB
Killah Priest's debut solo album won't make you forget the ... conceptual vision, but his nurtured and understated deliveries are a welcome change from the clamorous ballyhooing that surrounds hip-hop every day.... [He] does hit on the occasional nugget of intelligentsia, but his pseudo-scientific lyricism sounds too much like he's trying to impress the teacher. Still, if ... this doesn't quench your thirst, you should go seek professional help.
What the Critics Say
[W]ith a powerful, slow-stepping near-concept album ... [featuring] lugubrious pace, sophisticated loops of orchestral, cinematic bent, and a load of guff on top ... Killah Priest exhibits a subtle, eerie finesse of his own.

gore galore!!.......2004-11-13
Quite possibly the greatest gore album ever. Mindblowing. Hole in the head is totally awesome.
Underground Classic.......2004-07-16
This one grows on you like some Lovecraftian fungi. Some Death Metal bands strive to be the most brutal, others to be the most technically virtuosic. It seems that Autopsy preferred to be the wettest, slimiest, most expressionistic Death Metal band ever.
Mental Funeral.......2004-07-09
Ok, if you're not into sludgy Death Metal, then don't get this, stick to your Death/Grind crap, anyways, this CD is killer, theres a few "immature" lyrics on a few songs, kind of pointless lyrics on those, but the rest of the lyrics aren't bad, Killer riffs, vocals, drumming, this is Chris Reiferts band, formally of Death (Scream Bloody Gore) only, and he is good, also check out Severed Survival.
great band.......2004-06-27
i'm not sure why the one poster gave this cd such a bad review. i suppose if the only dm you listen to is stuff like suffocation, hate eternal, origin, cryptopsy, and other super techie metal onslaughts this might not be up your alley.
but if you ask me, this is one of if not the most widely varied sounding 'death metal' albums i've ever heard. the styles range from sludgey rock, to faster bits and several areas in between, with each song having it's own identity. if you don't mind more recognizably song-oriented dm, i would strongly suggest picking this up. i think fans of darkthrone and eyehategod could like this band a lot.
and oh yeah, it is insanely catchy too.
Not as good as the first album, BUT..........2003-12-22
...still a fantastic album in its own right. A classic, with genre-defining songs. The incredibly bizarre production only helps matter. Be sure to pick it up if you are a death metal fan and are new to the world of these bands, or if you've never heard this before.

For those with a love/hate relationship with the holidays.......2006-12-25
If you aren't quite ready to write off the holidays completely but are becoming a bit cynical about how the holidays are "celebrated" in a consumerism driven society, then you need this CD. Upbeat yet thought provoking
Different, Light, and Funny.......2004-11-30
The songs are original. The music is nice to listen to, and the lyrics don't require an FCC censor. One of the better make-fun-of-Xmas CD's
I must be missing something.......2004-11-11
I imagine everyone reading this will be clicking on the 'no' button after the 'was this review helpful?' question. I bought this CD with high expectations. I must have read all of the other reviews. I am an avid collector of holiday music of all types and I thought this would be, if not a sure winner, one that could provide a track or two to a holiday mix. Sorry to say that I wasn't that impressed with anything I heard and I haven't played it more than a few times. All of these 5 star reviewers can't be that wrong, so this must just not be my kind of humor.
Amusing look at Christmas.......2004-09-08
Like all comic albums, your appreciation of it will depend on your sense of humor but I suspect that most people will find plenty to enjoy here. Even the copyright warning is amusing, explaining that unauthorized duplication of this or any other recording produced by starving artists will result in you heading up Santa's naughty list. The sisters (Mary Reynolds and Marilyn Rucker) don't look as if they're starving but you already know from the warning that this is not a serious Christmas album although there is a serious message in some of the comic songs.
Among the comic songs are the title track (about a family who don't get on well together), Christmas in July (wishing for some goodwill in summer), Abraham's lament (about biblical characters looking at how they are celebrated), The twelve days of analysis (about psychiatric therapy), The sweet nutcracker (about a psychiatrist), Happy whatever you're having (season's greetings), Santa's got the blues (about Santa needing therapy), Listless Christmas (about what you want for Christmas), The littlest snowflake (tracing the progress of a snowflake from its arrival on the ground to melting in the sun), Pachelbel's tantrum (another song about a family Christmas), New year's resolutions (about resolutions that are broken) and my favorite, The war of the lights (about rivalry between neighbors).
Apart from the comic songs, there are three others - It must be Christmas (a love song), Christmas boogie and Christmas polka.
If you want music to laugh at during the festive period, this may be just what you're looking for.
I wouldn't go through the holidays without it.......2001-12-04
The other reviewers are right--this album is so good I am buying another one to give as a gift. These women are funny without ever sinking to sick humor. They gently poke fun at everything from disfunctional families to over-spending. There's even a wonderful romantic song, It Must Be Christmas, that you can play for or sing to your sweetheart.
Thank you, Therapy Sisters, for this wonderful gift.

Coroner's Best.......2003-12-08
I have all of Coroner's CD's and they really hit the mark with this one (their others are OK, but not nearly this good). If you haven't heard Coroner it's kinda' hard to describe their sound. Lots of rhythm changes, catchy rhythm hooks and extremely tight playing. They're one of those bands whose sound and style really stands out from other thrash bands. This particular CD is one that I still play regularly 12 years after I bought it. It's one of the tightest, catchiest thrash albums ever made. No hint of monotonous death metal here. Just virtuistic playing and great thrash classics. Tommy Baron is a very skilled guitarist who plays incredibly tight rhythm riffs and adds a tasty solo here and there. Semtex Revolution is one of the best thrash songs ever written. This is a "must have" for thrash aficionados.
Solid album.......2003-11-27
Clocking in at almost 48 minutes, Mental Vortex--the fourth full-length album from Coroner--is a good piece of work. It was released in 1991 and contains eight tracks. The material is in a metal musical direction. Overall, the songwriting is solid, the musicianship is proficient, and the sound quality is impressive. Ron Royce does well with the vocal delivery. Tommy T. Baron is a remarkably accomplished guitar player; he is not only an inventive rhythm guitarist but also a skillful soloist. He provides some cool guitar riffs on "Son of Lilith" and "Metamorphosis." "Semtex Revolution" features a nice guitar solo from him. When it comes to the drums, Marquis Marky does a skilled job, too. I like the shifting tempos of the songs throughout. Even though I find all of the tracks to be worthy, my favorite ones are "Divine Step (Conspectu Mortis)," "Son of Lilith," "Semtex Revolution," and "Metamorphosis." The band performs a cover version of the Beatles' tune "I Want You (She's So Heavy)." The CD booklet includes the song lyrics. There is also an illustration of a saw blade on the backcover of the CD booklet. The back of the CD jewel case displays an individual black-and-white photo of each member of the group. Mental Vortex is a gratifying disc from Coroner.

Product Description
"Originally released in 1992 on R.E.X. Records, this is the very first Circle of Dust album ever released... Without a doubt, Circle of Dust was the quintessential Christian industrial group. And long before Slipknot was painting by numbers, Scott Alberts (aka. Klay Scott, Celldweller, Klayton) band was busy redefining modern metal with a sound that bled sadistic instincts with the sheer terror of industrial-minded mayhem. From the radioactive burn of the opening track, "Exploration" to the turbo charged tirade of "Nothing Sacred" through the abrassive allure of "Senseless Abandon," CoD delivers a molten mass of metallic fury that leaves most contemporaries trembling in comparison!"
Customer Reviews:
THIS IS AN EXTRAORDINARY METAL ALBUM FEATURING VOCALIST JORN LANDE.......2006-08-16
THE METAL OBSERVER gave it a (9.5 of 10 possible points) and says this about it....
"Wow, what an album. Who'd like to hear finest epic-stuff in tradition of "Headless Cross" or "Tyr" (both BLACK SABBATH) and one of the most gigantic vocalists of the scene at the top of his career, this one is yours. His name: Jörn Lande, a devil of a fellow, who sings with ARK, THE SNAKES, MUNDANUS IMPERIUM and MILLENIUM. But with BEYOND TWILIGHT he delivers his masterpiece and is somewhere between Dio and Tony Martin, but not a iota weaker! The songs all are rather doomy and extremely bombastic. The direction I had mentioned in the beginning is OK, just darker! This album is oozing with emotionality and pure passion, it is mystic and dramatic. With one word: killer!
PROGRESSIVE WORLD says.....
Essentially, this disc contains just about every aspect of what a progressive metal fan wants to hear. In addition, you also get a very well thought out story that is truly mesmerizing and haunting.
PROGRESSIVE ARCHIVES gave it 4.40 out of 5 possible points
and said..... "Excellent addition to any prog music collection"
The beginning..........2005-04-03
This is the first release by Scott Albert (aka Klay Scott). He is credited with putting Christian industrial on the map and giving it an identity. The tracks listed by Steven A. Burton are from the 1995 re-release of this album, not this original 1992 release. Klay wanted to redo this release because he was never satisfied with the quality of this original. I highly recommend picking up this title, and also checking out Klay's latest work under the band Celldweller. Here are the tracks from the 1992 original:
1)Exploration
2)Dissolved
3)Nightfall
4)Nothing Sacred
5)Twisted Reality
6)Technological Disguise
7)Consequence
8)Demoralize
9)Rational Lies
10)Senseless Abandon

Album Description
The spotlight was on bloodpit in 2005 when their debut single, 'out to find you', reached the #1 spot in the finnish single charts. After its nordic release, the single found its way into the european single chart. The next single, 'platitude', sold as many copies in a week as its precursor had sold in a month. The band did not, however, appear from out of nowhere. Bloodpit's career began with performing at various bandstands and venues, they won band competitions, released self-financed eps and accumulated an army of fans. Since then, band's music has developed into a mixture of alt-rock, powerful vocals and metal riffs with punk attitude. 'mental circus', the band's debut album, is the culmination of music from bloodpit's entire career to date. The vividly rocking 'autumn' represents the older material whereas the newer songs include 'bad-ass blues' which combines heavy riffs with stadium melodies. Rajon. 2006

Customer Reviews:
Coroner Hits All The Right Notes .......2007-04-03
The hardest Coroner album for me to find is also my personal favorite. This one has the best production, strangest lyrics, and outstanding production (although the vocals seem a bit buried in the mix. The only weak track is the cover of the Beatles' "I Want You (She's So Heavy) which, if not great, is at least tolerable (unlike the "Purple Haze cover on Punishment For Decadence). A definite easy (and intelligent) choice for the new-to-Coroner listener.
A group ahead of their time / Buy it!.......2005-08-09
I bot this as a "cut out" cd for 2.00. Its funny how those end up being some of your favorite cd's. A very dark/speedy/intense metal album. Its a cd that could be released today and still be very vital. I believe these guys were from Germany, had some success but broke up. You cant go wrong with any band that was on the NOISE label originally. If you like Celtic Frost, you'll love these guys.
Heavy and fast, while maturing.......2005-03-22
Mental Vortex was much of an album where you saw Coroner mature in their sound a bit, while retaining their characteristic chaos and heaviness. Very dark, which is independent of the heaviness. The album is mysterious and intelligent and spoke of the direction they were going in with polishing their sound.
One of the finest albums of the genre, while being a group that hasn't been matched since.
Mental Vortex : Pure Brilliance.............2003-04-20
I've been a Coroner fan since 1989. I remember the first time I saw Coroner on Headbangers Ball, and I was immidiately drawn to their sound. I love all of their releases, and highly recommend all of them to any fan of Speed/Death/ and Thrash Metal...
If you've never heard Coroner, you're in for a real treat. The only words to really describe Coroner's sound is "unique", "dark", "fast as lightning", "very deep"....
They don't sound like anybody else IMO, but they are brutal power at it's very best. They are all very talented, and perfectionist musicians. Guitarist T. Baron is one of the best guitarists I've ever heard. His riffs are blazing fast, and he plays some of the most impressive soaring/flying leads I've ever heard. He is without question an axe master....
Metal Vortex is without question Coroner's finest hour. It's very polished, and very well written. There is not one single filler here either. All of the songs on Mental Vortex have a very powerful, and lasting impression. Drummer M. Marky lays down some of his very best lyrics here too. It's a dark ride through the gates of hell and back IMO. They really did some excellent work here, and it's truly a masterpiece in every way.....
If I had to classify this, and compare it to another band, I couldn't really. I'll just say that it's one of the best CD's I own, and I've got 1000's......
