Rapping for Jesus is really where it's at!.......2007-07-19
Well I gotta say that I love this Cd. I myself like more of the "harcore" rap and beats, so it really its home to the listener! Lecrae is one of my favorite "christian" rappers as he is very real, his spirit is in tune with God, raps very well and spits it hard!
It seems this is the music we need in todays society as it has become so perverse. I used to have about 500 rap albums, but I don't even this to them anymore. Everything I listen to now is filled with the holy spirt and this is the way it will stay.
I thank God for people such as Trip Lee, Lecrae and other various artists who rap for God and continue to do so! It sounds great! I just hope more people listen to this instead of all the other garbage out there.
All I say is keep it up! Bring the beats, and the verses! Don't stop until the casket drop, lol.!!!!!
GOES HARD.......2007-07-12
THIS WHOLE ALBUM GOES HARD WITH LYRICS, BEATS, AND MOST IMPORTANT THE WORD OF GOD. IF YOU DON'T HAVE THIS ALBUM YOU ARE SLEEPING HEAVY THIS IS A MUST HAVE ALBUM 10 MICS IN MY BOOK THE WHOLE ALBUM IS BANGIN. A MUST COP NOW ALBUM.
Great Album with Sold Doctrine.......2007-07-07
When I first heart that reach records would put out an album on the 13 Pauline Epistles, I wondered what it would be like; I also was excited. The talk about it was huge, so I made the step to get the album. This album has really encouraged 1. Self-Examination: As a Christian man looking at these surveys and seeing whether my life matches up to what they are speaking, whether in good or bad ways, 2. Study of the Word of God: They emphasize that their "surveys" of the Epistles are just that "surveys" not expositions - in hopes that it would lead you to "Dig In" to the word (Track 2 w/ Trip Lee). 3. Encourage other believers: Pauls epistles were an encouragement to other believers, even though Paul was imprisoned most of the time he still wrote with a fervency, not for his own glory but for the Glory of God! This is a thread throughout the entire epistles and the album seems to capture that thread. There are many other things you can pick up and that i could write about, but all in all, great album to buy for the sake of study and to "bump" on the road. Thank you to all the reach Fam for their efforts. ***NOTE*** it does not just stop with the album, look for the curriculum coming soon - it takes the album to a different leve, to my understanding it also includes some dramatic themes.
Awesome.......2007-06-25
All I can really say is that this CD is amazing! A few years back I listened to secular rap because Gospel hip hop really was not that great in comparison. Now I got rid of the secular because I truly feel that the 116 clique has better music. Not to mention that their lyrics glorify God and teach the listener life lessons. The cross movement's album history is also a really good hip hop album with Christian lyrics. Buy these CD's up. "Dig In" and "Get Loose" are my two favorites, but the whole album is solid.
Masterfully done.......2007-06-17
This album is masterful. It's:
1) Christ centered. The artists do an amazing job of expositing the 13 letters of Paul given the study that they put in before making the songs. They all come very knowledgable about the conditions at which the letters were written and do a great job of breaking down the text of the letters into a culturally-relevant language. I've never heard the Word being spit this way on an album. You get background, teaching, and application from this.
2) Filled with talented MCs (Lecrae, Trip Lee, Tedashii, Sho, FLAME, 1-Lyfe, Dillon Chase, JSon) who bring lyrical fire on each track. There is no weak MC on this track - and the lyrics are meaningful.
3) Diverse in style with the beats and sound each track. You get the dirty south sound, east coast beats, nice slow jams, R&B-esque tracks, the midwest sound... it's all in there and each artist does a great job of using the beats with their flow. It's balanced as well: No one style dominates or one MC dominates (like Lecrae on the 1st 116 Clique album).
If you like high-quality lyrics and production, diversity, balance, heart, soul, passion, and something that edifies you and challenges you, this is it. ...And it's all for the glory of God.
Good tracks to preview: 'Dig in' by Trip Lee, 'Philippians - To Live is Christ' by Trip Lee, 'Galatians - Justified' by Sho.

This debut is Deee-Lite's most consistent record, and subsequently their best. By freebasing the previous three decades of pop culture, World Clique is a rush of beats, hooks, and fashion sensibilities. "Groove Is in the Heart" brings one of the best and funkiest bass lines ever to the dance floor. Lady Miss Kier establishes herself as a stylist--both vocally and visually--capable of casting some serious shade. World Clique manages a seamless merger of house beats, a trippy '60s vibe, and an over-the-top '70s funkified sound, thanks in part to DJ Towa Tei. "Good Beat" serves up what its title promises, while "Power of Love" goes one better by adding one of the strongest melodies of the band's career. By punctuating their songs with quirky bleeps and rhythmic kitsch, Deee-Lite predicted the DJ-dominated craze that would spin the latter part of the '90s into a tizzy. --Steve Gdula
Customer Reviews:
Deee-Lite ful dance music.......2006-11-22
I am not a huge fan of dance music. In fact, I am not sure I have anything else in my collection that is as solidly in the dance music category as this album. My collection includes more hard rock, country music, and classical than anything approaching dance. At the same time, this is a great album and definitely one of my favorites.
Like most people, I was attracted to the album by "Groove is in the Heart." The song is snappy, fun, and really gets me moving. The more I listen to the album; however, I find it is actually one of my least favorite songs. I find I particularly like the Deee-Lite Theme, Good Beat, World Clique, Try Me On, and (surprising to me) Who Was That.
They combine zany lyrics, interesting sound effects, catchy beats, and the powerful voice of Lady Kier. While I generally find dance music monotonous and boring, this album does not stay too long on a rhythm or beat and keeps things moving along in a way that keeps me moving.
I would love to say that if you like so-and-so you will love this album but I cannot. Based upon the things that I generally like, I should hate this album but I love it. I guess the thing that I can recommend is that you listen to the album with an open mind. Chances are you will start to bop and groove in spite of yourself.
"Very Odd Indeed".......2006-07-31
Deee-lite, they of the accursed platform shoes are really a bit like seeing the past in the future. On one hand they have their ultra '90s sounds , but on the other hand they dress in huge clompy platform shoes and psychedelic trews & look as if they landed straight out of those disco dancing 1970s. But even then they are rather more interesting than the average dance rave-ups of those early '90s. For instance, take their ripping floor filler " Groove is in the heart"- its got samples & twiddly electro noises which was so necessary for the dancefloor success during those early '90s. (Thanks to the advent of the Manchester "scene"). It goes something like "Groove is in the heart (ne-na-na-na-na)/ We're going to dance/ and have some fun".But also there's a hummable melody & sense of humour about it all. Just as ( Super DJ) Dimitry says-"The three 'e's in Deee-lite stand for Enjoy!Enjoy!Enjoy!"
The rest of " World Clique" is just as jolly.Singer Lady Kier is the main attraction ,with her Neneh Cherryesque squeal ( done to particularly glass shattering effect in " Goodbeat"). Behind her pianos tinkle, saxophones honk wildly and snatches of 70's disco songs float past(courtsy Super DJ Dimitry & Jungle DJ Towa Towa).
Actually its all very glossy and done with lots of imagination(borrowing bits from those '70s). The only dissapointing bit is "Build the Bridge" which reminds you how boring dance music can be. Otherwise a swankingly fine effort.
A CD worth 16 years looking for..........2006-07-01
`World Clique' manages to avoid the bargain bin; one hit, that's it. With `Groove is in the Heart' to the bonus track `Build a Bridge'... `World Clique' is literally a dance party in a CD and holds up after the album release 16 years ago.
Dee-lite. . .Disss-apointing.......2006-05-02
I normally don't buy an album for one song, which is why I didn't buy this one earlier. However, when I heard "What Is Love?" on Fred Schneider's "Party out of Bounds" radio show, I decided to take a chance and purchase "World Clique." Bad idea. Aside from the aforementioned song and "Groove is in the Heart", this album is lame and uninspired, filled with redundant dance rhythms and forgettable melodies. Don't make the same mistake I did; save your money on a record worth listening to. If you like their one-hit-wonder song "Groove...", find a compilation album with this song on it.
Really only 1 great tune here and a few decent ones.......2006-04-01
First my biases so you know where I'm coming from:
I'm not really into the "club music" scene though I do enjoy some dance pop. While I can appreciate that the groove is "#1" in dance music, I still want lyrics with some amount of depth to them and an actual melody (which is why I avoid techno).
ITEM #1: The groove. Deee-Lite manages this in spades thanks to the use of samples, horns and other items outside of strict electronics to beef up the sound. Lady Miss Kier isn't the fiery vocalist someone like Black Box's Martha Wash is, but she's competent if not exciting.
ITEM #2: Lyrical depth. This is where most dance pop fails and in this Deee-Lite is not immune. The words to some of these are appalling and in some cases skeletal to the extreme ("What is Love?" is probably the prime example.)
ITEM #3: Melody. The tunes here for the most part tend to have a reasonable amount of melody. In fact, I'd say the music often is the best part of the package.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Far and way, the best track here is the sole chart hit "Groove is in the Heart" which pulsates with energy from front to back and brings an instant smile to my face whenever I hear the "we're going to dance..and have some FUN" sample and the memorable bass and bongo lick that introduces it. No other tune here manages as much outright soulful danceability along with nifty cameos from Bootsy Collins and rapper Q-Tip. Outside of that sparkling hit, the 2 that best stay with you are "E.S.P.", an ode to the power of the disc jockey ("Won't you listen to what the DJ's spinning?/He's tapping into just what you're feeling") and "Who Was That?", as Miss Kier ponders the identity of the trespasser who noshed some peanut butter and indulged in a bubble bath before skipping out. It's playful and would have been the logical followup single to "Groove..".
LOWS:
"What is Love?" is not so much a song as a midtempo music bed with Lady Miss Kier's wide eyed musings that love is "de-vine, de-lightful, de-gorgeous!". "World Clique" is much the same with the theme being global unity this time.
BOTTOM LINE:
This is far from indispensable to the average music listener. I'd stick with getting "Groove is in the Heart" on a good compilation personally.

Quality .......2007-04-25
This cd is simply amazing! I was once a fan of secular hip hop, but I no longer listen to it. I must say that I would prefer this cd over any secualar rap cd. Secular hip hop is terrible in content. The 116 clique brings great beats, better than most popular hip hop artists, and combines solid lyricism. Most importantly, they glorify God in their music.
I highly recommend this cd for it's quality music and message. Don't be a fan of secular hip hop and its poor message.
Bang'n.......2006-09-05
The 116 Clique has by far the best lyrics in all of Christian rap. Let's be honest, most Christian rappers are lame. I'm a Christian, and proud of it, but most acts fall short in the lyrics department. Don't hate me for telling the truth. Every track on this cd brings the heat with fire lyrics, and smoke'n beats. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS CD! You can't go wrong with any cd from this Clique, and the best part is it's all word centered.
Lecrae shines...the rest is uneven.......2006-04-06
About half of the songs on this CD are by Lecrae; no one else has more than two songs. I worked at Kids Across America, a Christian camp for urban youth, and we played this CD into the ground. Here's the thing: even after hearing these songs many times every day for an entire summer, some of them STILL sound fresh. The best two are Breathe In Breathe Out by Lecrae and Act Out by This'l, although most of the rest are pretty good when played in moderation. Of course, I like faster, more complex songs, which is why I picked these two, but I See the Lord by Sho feat. Ray is a beautiful slower song as well. This is a good compilation, but remember that compilations aren't real albums, and so know what you're getting. Check out Real Talk by Lecrae and Holy Culture and Human Emergency by Cross Movement
The best Fellowship.......2006-02-14
This album was the best ever Christian rap CD ever made. "Fellowship of the Truth", as they call there selves, did a fantastic job making this CD. I also look foward to seeing them and/or purchase there next album. God Bless!!

A funky down-south album.......2004-02-28
I bought the album for 3 dollars and it's definitly worth that, It's a bumping album straight outta P.A. and most songs are really funky.
Best songs: COMIN HOME, OUTHERE ON THE CORNER & 25 LIGHTERS.
Underrated.......2001-10-15
This album is a must-buy. You may or may not have heard of "25 Lighters" if you weren't down South around '98, but that song just sets up the album. This is one of those albums that you can just put on, and let play all day long. If you like Lil' Keke, Fat Pat, or anyone from the Houston/Louisiana area, get this album.

The Clique.......2006-06-20
I remember Sugar On Sunday. It was a great top 30 (#25) hit. I also remember a suburban Chicago FM station, WEXI, played I'll Hold Out My Hand (The second release from the album to chart,#45). Brings back a lot of memories. Growing up in the 60's and 70's listening to top 40 on WLS and WCFL was good stuff. Living in Chicago then we were lucky to have two major 50KW powerhouse AM's, playing top 40 to choose from.
This music recalls a more melodious time in rock & roll.......2006-06-13
My six year old son likes the song "Sugar on Sunday", and he prefers the Clique's version to the Shondells' version. Some music just stands the test of time, even if people have in the past called it fluff or bubblegum.
Pop and power pop music sure was different from "Whole Lotta Love" and "Court of the Crimson King" that you were hearing on FM radio at the time, but it sure was fun. Hearing it today instantly evokes memories for me of a much simpler time. People say the same thing about 50's pop, too.
Anyhow...favorites on this album are "Sugar on Sunday", "My Darkest Hour" and "Shadow of Your Love". There's a decent rendition of the Brothers Gibb's "Holiday" and the original "Hallelujah"--ultimately a hit for the band Sweathog.
The original "Superman" is a gem...an awesome cover of this song found it's way onto R.E.M.'s "Life's Rich Pageant" in 1986 as an unlisted bonus track.
I'd pay money to see this band reunite.
This stinks........2005-07-11
I really like the song "Superman" but have only heard the REM version. Unfortunately, Superman is the only decent song on this boring, fluffy album. If you are into really, really light sixties pop (think "Up Up and Away"), you'll probably get a kick out of this. I was really disappointed.
Wow, they're here.......2004-06-25
I was working at the Rice radio station in Houston when the REM version of "Superman" came out, and our walking encyclopedia of 60's music, Stan Ostrum, dug out his original copy of your album. The Clique version became a big hit on our station that year.
I wish we'd known you were still in town, we would have loved to have you down for a visit.
I woke up this morning with Superman stuck in my head, and checked, and lo and behold its on CD now! This is awesome.
Miss the version "Splash 1"!.......2004-06-20
I am an old drummer who played in various garage bands from the sixties and would like to ask anyone out there if they have a good version of "Splash 1". I have both the album and the CD, "The Clique", but really need "Splash 1". to complete my collection. I would be willing to bet the single re-released on CD would sell like crazy. I have a ton of friends who would buy it. This was a great group in the sixties.
