5 out of 5 stars Spot on funny.......2007-07-19

Daniel Tosh's musings are crude, yet witty. The world according to Tosh would contain basketball-boxing as well as bigger, stronger, faster athletes. I'm not normally a comedy buff, but Daniel Tosh had my entire family rolling on the floor laughing. This is a great CD!

5 out of 5 stars More Dave Attell than Dane Cook.......2007-06-18

This is one very funny concert, probably because he does push the limits. I have heard some people in here compare him to Dane Cook. Uhhh, I have a copy of Dane Cook's CDs and this one by Tosh is way funnier. Whereas Cook relies on being a cool buddy to the audience and relaying longwinded and contrived stories, Tosh tells jokes and he pushes the audience by saying things he knows they think are funny, but are perhaps a little afraid to laugh at in public. The smart humor had me just thinking more about Dave Attell, than Dane Cook.

4 out of 5 stars Good Stuff.......2007-05-12

Daniel Tosh is a very funny comedian. I am a difficult person to please when it comes to comedy, but this is one that you just have to buy....and it comes with his CD enclosed which is also really entertaining. Only complaint is I wish the DVD was more than 22 minutes, but since the CD is included, it is worth the purchase price.

4 out of 5 stars You did it because you're whore!.......2007-05-08

One might not rush out and buy this album based on Tosh's Comedy Central Presents special. The problem with those specials is that you don't get a real feel for the comedian because they are often rushed to make the time limit and they always have to censor themselves.

This album is from a Southern California show and it's absolutely hilarious. Tosh has very unique takes on various topics and he does it with an attitude. On several bits, he will challenge the audience to the point of insulting them directly. His take on plastic surgery is brilliant and he basically tells every female audience member with fake breasts that they are whores! He's not an insult comic, so it's done with a sense of playfulness. All of his material is taken with that approach and he pulls it off.

Admittedly, his delivery and inflection is similar to Dane Cook. That's about where the similarity between the two comics begins and ends. I remember seeing Tosh in the late 90's. Dane Cook's popularity has been a more recent phenomenon. Daniel Tosh's material is very well-written, thought out and "edgey." I'm happy for Dane Cook's success, but he relies too much on physical humor and bits that are just observations with no real commentary.

I've had this CD for about 2 weeks and I've listen to it at least 6 times. I highly recommend it for people who love stand-up comedy.

3 out of 5 stars Does Dane Cook collect royalties from this?.......2007-05-01

It's a funny album, there's no question about that. But at least seventeen times throughout the album you will momentarily forget that you're not listening to Dane Cook. Tosh has lifted Cook's tone down to the last detail. Every once in a while he channels Jim Gaffigan for a moment, but 98% of the time it's pure Dane Cook. It doesn't mean he's not funny, he definitely is. I just wish he'd come up with his own thing.

Oh, and if it turns out that Daniel Tosh has been doing this way longer than Dane Cook and it's Cook who lifted his act from Tosh, then I apologize. But I'm thinking probably not.

5 out of 5 stars An inspired program.......2007-06-10

"True Stories and Other Dreams" was the first of Collins' albums to contain at least half of her own original songs. Collins' songwriting on this album ("The Fisherman's Song," "Secret Gardens," "Song For Martin," "Holly Ann," "Che") show her to be an inspired, sometimes brilliant composer. For the remaining songs, Collins selected prime material: Tom Paxton's "The Hostage," Valerie Carter's "Cook With Honey" and Steve Stills' "So Begins the Task." This is one of Judy Collins' major releases and it deserved to be much more commercially successful than it was at the time of its release in 1973. It shows Collins off as both a premier songwriter and interpreter of contemporary material.

5 out of 5 stars excellent.......2007-05-12

I bought this as a gift for a friend who is a Judy Collins fan. She absolutely fell in love with the CD.

5 out of 5 stars "TRUE STORIES AND OTHER DREAMS": JUDY COLLINS' FIRM ENTRENCHMENT IN THE SINGER-SONGWRITER RANKS.......2007-01-11

When this album was first released in the early 1970s, Judy Collins had already written some really amazing songs ("Since You Asked", "Albatross", "My Father" and "Nightingale" amongst them), but she was mostly known as being a great interpreter of others' material; but with "True Stories And Other Dreams", she placed herself right up there firmly with the other great folk-rocking singer-songwriter troubadours at the forefront of the musical scene.

This album contains some nice versions of songs by Valerie Carter (the superbly enjoyable "Cook With Honey"), Stephen Stills ("So Begins The Task") and Tom Paxton ("The Hostage", a really riveting number about a prison riot).

However, the big highlights on this album are Judy's own magnificent compositions: "Fisherman Song" is a great folk-rocky number with an ecological overtone; "Song For Martin" is about a friend's suicide and is, therefore, quite sorrowful; "Holly Ann" is a beauty of a number about her sister and, musically, sounds like the weaving she does; "Che" is an epic masterpiece about political unrest in South America; "Secret Gardens", as you may have already read in some of the other reviews of this album, is a supreme masterpiece and must be heard, as it reminds all of us how our ancestors stay young somehow and are always with us, even as we grow older - it never fails to move me and I long to hear it again as I type these words into the computer.

"True Stories And Other Dreams" is a true testament to the artistry and talent that is Judy Collins. Her voice is as beautiful as ever on this recording and her songwriting here puts her right there with all the songwriting greats of that era (or any era, for that matter!).

5 out of 5 stars More Beautiful Collins Music.......2005-07-12

I bought the LP of TRUE STORES AND OTHER DREAMS years ago when it was first released but recently had been humming "Secret Gardens" and purchased the CD. The song, written by Ms. Collins, is as beautiful now as it was 30 years ago when she first sang it. I have never understood why it hasn't received more praise. It's theme is so universal: no one grows old in our memory and flowers bloom forever. The CD also has "Cook with Honey" by Valerie Carter, sometimes included on "Best Of" recordings, along with "So Begins the Task" by Stephen Stills. The creme de la creme, however, is the music written by Ms. Collins, herself. In addition to "Secret Gardens," three other songs are included: "Holly Ann," a moving song about Ms. Collins' younger sister, "living north of San Francisco;" "Song for Martin," Judy's lament for a friend who committed suicide--"I know I let you down"-- and finally "Che," an anthem-like song in praise of Che Guevara that will put chills on your spine: "You have it in your time/You have it in your hands/To own your lives/To own your lands."

Ms. Collins has the rare talent of taking ordinary words and making them into something magical and beautiful. Her very personal lyrics-- though never maudlin-- achieve the universal. But then, that's what good poetry does; isn't it?

Another fine Collins CD.

5 out of 5 stars Secret Gardens of the Heart.......2004-10-24

I've read some of the reviews on this album and the two songs most recognized and loved are Secret Gardens and Hollyann and I must concur. I have some of Judy's vinyls from yesteryear;), but I don't have this particular one. I bought the CD just for those two songs because they are so endearing and simply beautiful. The other songs are good, but don't hold that kind of wistful feeling I get when I hear Secret Gardens and Hollyann.

A good album, but I'm pining for the not yet made CD of Judy's So Early in the Spring the First Fifteen years where all the songs are just amazing and the ones most fans would enjoy are on this album. Now that would be a definite keeper.

5 out of 5 stars This is a very good CD........2007-03-30

As usual, Mac has put out a good product. Does this man ever do anything that's not exceptional? I don't think so. Mac, who is everyone's favorite Coral Reefer, appears to tell a story with each cut. I particularly like 'Last Man Standing'. Being the straightest Coral Reefer, I'm sure Mac is the "last man standing" a lot of the time. I really don't know what to think about 'Come on if You're Comin'. Men and women probably view this song differently. Men will identify with what Mac is singing about while women will just say, "We're just trying to look our best when we're out with you." 'Stephon, the Alternative Lifestyle Reindeer' is a cute song with political overtones. 'The Far Side of Heaven' makes me tear up a little. My favorite cut, however, is the title song, 'Semi-True Stories'. It's vintage Mac. If you like Mac, buy the CD. If you've never listened to Mac, buy the CD.

2 out of 5 stars fruit not yet ripe enough for picking.......2005-03-15

I don't know what happened, it appears he went through a divorce? At any rate, not one song on this cd rises up to his best efforts...I'm not wanting Mac to churn out the same songs year after year, or recycle them, but nothing on this cd seems quite ready to be recorded....nothing even approaches the quality of his earlier music....is there a song here that you'll be humming after the cd is done? Not one. There is not a Socrates, or a Still Life....this entire cd appears to be songs he wrote for others, and recorded himself as an afterthought...or demo's he put on a cd to fulfill a contract...don't get me wrong, I love the guy, and love all of his earlier stuff....but this appears to fall far short of his ability.

I wish him the best, but this is not it.

3 out of 5 stars "Stories" Has Some Semi Pleasing Truth.......2004-07-29

Prime Cuts: The Far Side of Heaven, Meanwhile, Hard Way to Go

McAnally's no slouch: after producing critically accolade studded albums by Jimmy Buffett, Chris LeDoux and Sawyer Brown and penning scorching hit records for Linda Davis, Sawyer Brown, Shenandoah, he has taken the time to release what is his 10th album. McAnally, for those unfamiliar with his music, owes his musical musings more to James Taylor than Merle Haggard. This is to say "Semi True Stories" is a closer kin to 70s-styled soft rock country than spit and sawdust honky tonk. Though not as poignant as his previous albums (such as the almost perfect "Live and Learn" or the philosophically enticing "Knots"), "Semi True Stories" continues McAnally's winning streak of reflective, introspective and piercing observations about life and relationships. The big difference this time however is that McAnally tries, albeit unsuccessfully, to lighten up at least on one cut: the awful Christmassy parody "Stephon the Alternate Lifestyle Reindeer." To put it respectfully, "Stephon" is an embarrassment to the residents of the North Pole, the holiday season, the gay community and the animal kingdom.

Fortunately, "Stephon" is the only moment where McAnally has sunk to such mire of ignominy. The rest of the album at least is more redemptive: with the best moment coming from the heart wrenching ballad "The Far Side of Heaven." With a sonic and emotional resemblance to the McAnally penned "All These Years" (recorded by Sawyer Brown), "Far Side" has the same heart numbing effect with lines such as: "And the heart that I gave you I had frown attached to. It's an optional organ for someone like you and the Lord I am told is amazing with grace. And I hope he'll grace you with a much better place on the far side of heaven a long way from me." Betrayal had never been so alluringly depicted.

With some romantic mandolin lines and soothing guitar licks, "Meanwhile" is this album's most country track. "Meanwhile" sings home the somber warning against hedonism in the unpredictability of life. Less effective because of the constant cord changes is the minor key ballad "When Trouble Comes Around." The tempo accelerates a minuscule on the socially conscious, "The Opposite of Love." Contemporary Christian artist Lenny LeBlanc's vocal support is not only apropos, but welcomed. Sawyer Brown's Mark Miller joins McAnally in composing the blue-collared rocker "Hard Way to Go." With a sumptuous guitar treat from Peter Mayer and a propulsive beat, it's almost Sawyer Brown's "The Boys and Me" all over again.

On the other hand, McAnally's take on Jimmy Buffett's popish "Last One Standing," the gospel infused "Home Again" and the repetitive rouser "Come On If You're Comin'" fail to impress. They are simply not McAnally at his finest. Also, my other quibble, though minor, is the shoddily designed CD booklet with its appallingly amateurish photos. "Semi True Stories" has some chapters worth savoring, but compared to some of McAnally's more classer outputs, "Semi True Stories" falls short.

5 out of 5 stars As good as it gets . . ........2004-07-10

SEMI-TRUE STORIES is one of the those little gems that get lost in the glitter and glamour of the music industry, which makes it all the more important to spread the word about just how good this CD is.

Mac McAnally's been recording since he was 18 . . . he's worked with some of music's greatest headliners (Roy Orbison, Dolly Parton, Sawyer Brown, Reba, Billy Joel, Alabama and Lyle Lovett) . . . he's a long time member of Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band . . . and he's been Jimmy Buffett's friend for some 30 years. . . but he's also a picker/singer/songwriter with extraordinary talent whose music is deeply influenced by his Mississippi roots.

MEANWHILE is an up-close and personal look at a man who has just realized time is finite.

LAST MAN STANDING (on Buffett's FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD CD) is a rousing anthem to party animals. It's an ironic song for Mac to have written, because he's pretty much the straight man of the Coral Reefers and says he's usually the first man sitting. *Grin*

THE FAR SIDE OF HEAVEN and THE OPPOSITE OF LOVE are "closure" tunes about bad breakups. I wouldn't be surprised if some big player in country music didn't record THE FAR SIDE OF HEAVEN. I think it's going to be a "classic divorce" tune. THE OPPOSITE OF LOVE is a plea to think about the children first during a divorce.

HARD WAY TO GO looks at how race relations haven't changed much since 1823 . . . and what a pity it is that we've chosen to take the "hard way to go".

SEMI-TRUE STORIES, a song Mac wrote with Jimmy for Jimmy, has one of my all-time favorite lines . . . "it was too much tequila or not quite enough." Makes you wish you'd been there "the day God's Own Drunk was recorded."

The swinging COME ON IF YOU'RE COMING will ring true with any man who's waited on a woman to get ready to go out for the evening. It features Greg "Fingers" Taylor, Buffett's former harmonica player and a huge talent. This one would be a perfect cover tune for ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL. Toe-tapping, honky tonkin', swing music at its zenith!

STEPHON (THE ALTERNATIVE LIFESTYLE REINDEER), on first blush, is quirky, but, upon a closer listening, it holds a mirror up to the way our has become so dadgum polarized. It has something to offend almost everyone - - - so unlike the mild-mannered Mac we've come to know and love.

HOME AGAIN seems to be a tribute to Mac's deep Mississippi musical and hard shell Baptist roots.

However, the most surprising cut, at least to me, is WHEN TROUBLE COMES AROUND.

"When trouble comes around
And you don't know where to turn
For all the pain it brings
You know there's certain things
There's just one way to learn."

Fellow Coral Reefer Band Members Peter and Jim Mayer and Roger Guth add the perfect bluesy feel to the music that compels you to slow down and listen to the message . . .we all have to endure trouble and learn from it and live to endure it again and again.

Powerful stuff here.

Do yourself a favor. Get this CD.

Enjoy!

3 out of 5 stars Talking Heads at their best.......2006-07-11

This is not the Soundtrack. This is Talking Heads performing songs that were in the movie. I want Papa Legba by Pops Staples.

2 out of 5 stars Ill-conceived........2006-02-22

The Talking Heads, after producing a handful of essential albums, seemed to spend the tail end of their career fumbling a bit for direction, after the stripped back and ultimately unsatisfying "Little Creatures", they recorded a series of pieces David Byrne wrote for a movie called "True Stories" (that had already been recorded by different artists). The net result is an album that quite frankly sounds and feels nothing like a Talking Heads album and falls far short of delivering the goods.

Essentially, the album bounces between one style and another, from fierce blues-based rock ("Love For Sale") to '50s pop ("People Like Us") to a sort of, for lack of better term, "world music" vibe ("Papa Legba"). The pieces themselves aren't bad, but it feels like this is the wrong band to be executing them and the performances pretty much limp along. A couple of the pieces are worth a listen (hit single "Wild Wild Life" is catchy and exciting, "Dream Operator" works out to be an intriguing pop piece), but by and large, the album muddles along and doesn't really go anywhere. To make matters worse, this incredibly irritating remix of "Wild Wild Life" is tagged on the end.

While this isn't one of their better pieces, the album has just been reissued in a remastered form on dual disc. The sonic upgrade is definitely worth the extra cost.

The Talking Heads were a band that accomplished a lot in a short amount of time and never seemed to recover after reaching critical mass. "True Stories" is probably as good an example of this as anything else. Newcomers should stick with their earlier albums ("Remain in Light" is probably as good a place as any) before pursuing something like "True Stories".

5 out of 5 stars Dream Operator is my favorite pop song!.......2006-02-06

I had no idea that this was considered a bad album. This is my favorite Talking Heads album. I like all of the songs on it, but especially Dream Operator. It is extremely beautiful and it is my favorite pop song of all time. I have great memories of watching the movie with my dad as a child. I loved the movie so much that my dad gave me his soundtrack tape. Well, I have long since worn it out and am ready to buy it on CD!

4 out of 5 stars Far too under-rated..........2004-05-19

I have no idea why this album gets dismissed as "rubbish" by many Talking Heads fans and David Byrne himself. It's not that bad. You've got the hits "Love For Sale" and "Wild Wild Life" which are good songs but there is so much better to be found on here. "Papa Legba" has some neat percussion. "People Like Us" is a good song but it's even better in the movie 'True Stories' (which i recommened you check out) where John Goodman sings it! "Dream Operator" has to be one of the most beautiful songs the Talking Heads have ever written and it's probably my favorite on the album. The only song I never really cared for is "Hey Now". One last thing I have to say is when a band like Radiohead names themselves after one of the songs off this album, it can't be all that bad.

5 out of 5 stars True Stories Soundtrack.......2004-02-21

One of my all-time favorite albums. I bought the LP twice...I played it so much, I wore it out. The movie is great. A Texas version of Best in Show or Mighty Wind. But the music will definitely move you. You won't be able to sit still. You'll have to sing every word out loud--very loud! It drives you to it.

Album Description

A brutal force of punk energy, Time Again spent most of 2005 touring the US and selling 10,000 copies of their self-titled debut EP (Rancid Records), leaving an explosive trail of punk rock ruckus while sharing stages with Circle Jerks, Adolescents, Social Distortion, and TSOL, to name a few. They played the 2005 Warped Tour and will tour throughout 2006. XM Radio selected their EP as one of the top ten albums of 2005. Following bands like The Casualties and The Unseen, Time Again will be the breakout punk band of 2006. Guest vocals on "Stories Are True" by Tim Armstrong (Rancid).

This is a pretty cool CD. Yes, it sounds almost exactly like something Rancid would have done 10 years ago, but it ain't bad. You can hear that they do have passion at least, and that they do enjoy what they are doing and that they're not lying about what they're singing about. How COULD you lie about stuff like that? Anyway, I would suggest listening to the songs 'Broken Bodies', 'Cold Concrete', 'Kenny' and 'Life on the Run'. That will give you a good idea of how the rest of the album sounds. a lot of people write this band off as being a carbon copy of rancid...say what you want but rancids been one of my fav bands since i was 16...yes..the singer..does sound very very similiar to tim..yes alot of the themes (junkies, hookers, being punk, ect..) do make their way on this album. a lot like a lot of early rancid's work think "lets go" and the s/t album...perhaps with a bit of "..and out come the wolves"..but you know what? all three of those albums are amazing...so how can time again possibly suck? my fav song on this album right now is the last song "street walker" a lil ska ditty bout hookers....so damn catchy

5 out of 5 stars Rancid Clones? Yes... Good Music? Yes!.......2006-08-12

This band does sound exactly like Rancid, but I'm very happy with this album none-the-less. If you have been hoping for another Rancid release like "Let's Go!" or "...And Out Come the Wolves" then pick up this album, you won't regret it. You will be singing along within 30 seconds of pushing "play" on your stereo.

4 out of 5 stars hmmmmm....have I heard this before........2006-05-31

Time Again is a great band from California. They released a E.P. on Rancid Records before moving to Hellcat and releasing this fine peice of music art. People have dogged on them in the past for ripping off Rancid. But Rancid is a good band. And this band just looks up to them. The song writing is a bit like Rancid, but these guys know what its like to really go through what they are talking about in their songs. If you like Rancid then pick this up. If you dont like Rancid dont bother to pick this up because you'll hate it. I love Rancid and I love Time Again. Amazing album

4 out of 5 stars It's Time Again... for Rancid!.......2006-05-20

They may be shameless Rancid clones down to the raspy lisp and songs about junkies, I mean, a complete and utter walking Rancid cliche, but at least the album is better than anything the Rancid crew's done in the past 10 years. And there are worse bands to emulate than Rancid. I mean, thank god they're not trying to sound like Ben Folds Five or something.

Part of Boston's vibrant (and crowded) singer-songwriter scene, Kris Delmhorst stands out thanks to a gorgeous, tender, evocative voice and a textured and varied musical palette. She opens with a funked-up reworking of "Cluck Old Hen," complete with Beck-like banjo, followed by the bittersweet "Damn Love Song," where only acoustic guitar, cello, and accordion color in the lines behind her. "Broken White Line" is graced with delicate strains of pedal steel and mandolin, while the ominous, languid "Just What I Meant," a highlight here, crawls along with occasional bursts of cello and baritone sax. And her wounded voice on the haunting chorus of "Gave It Away" sends shivers. While Delmhorst is at her most appealing when the musical settings are ambitious, her lyrics seem to benefit from a more restrained approach. Thus, songs like "Words Fail You" and "Yellow Brick Road"--with basic musical tracks and too-clever words--fall comparatively flat. But for the most part, this is a powerful sophomore effort, one where elements of traditional roots-based folk successfully mingle with modern singer-songwriter flourishes. --Marc Greilsamer

    5 out of 5 stars Writing beauty.......2005-08-13

This cd has some of my favorite songs from Kris. All of the songs that made me a fan, in fact.

The writing here is eloquent and poetic. Her themes of love are carefully wrapped inside metaphors that will leave you speechless. I am so amazed at the expression these songs offer. There is an honesty here that will speak directly to your heart. Kris is a master at weaving words.

My favs from this disc: 'Damn Love Song', 'Words Fail You', 'Yellow Brick Road','Broken White Line' and 'Lullaby 101'.

If you are a fan of singer-songwriters then you will love this album.

5 out of 5 stars Always in my cd player.......2003-12-27

I have owned this album for 2 years and it has never left my CD player. Now, Songs for a Hurricane joins it there. Kris Delmhorst is incredible.

    5 out of 5 stars I can't stop playing this beauitful CD!.......2003-07-18

Kris Delmhorst stands out from within the "Girls with Guitars" genre as a unique, multi-faceted, wonderful singer and songwriter. Her lyrics are strong and dynamic paired with a natural and lovely voice. That girl plays a ton of instruments and showcases those talents well on songs like "Mean Old Wind." My favorite is "Broken White Line" with its classic-sounding folk-rock nature, well elevated by original story-telling lyrics. Appetite and the older EPs are great; but for a full-fledged, enjoyable album, FIVE STORIES is the way to go. You'll be satisfied from start to finish, and then, like me, you'll press play again and start the whole experience over for another round!

5 out of 5 stars A remarkable folk album from a budding star.......2003-07-16

My husband and I discovered Kris Delmhorst when she opened a Dar Williams show in Alexandria, Va. With her warm voice, catchy tunes and accessible lyrics, it was musical love at first site. I've since bought all her albums and am DYING for the next one to come out. My favorites on this one _ so far her best _ are "Broken White Line," and "Yellow Brick Road." She is right up there with Dar as one of my favorite artists.

    5 out of 5 stars Stellar project.......2002-11-01

It's impossible to go wrong buying this CD if you have any interest in singer-songwriters. I think the other reviews here already sum it up nicely, but it should be mentioned that many of the musicians on this album have been seen around Boston in their own successful projects. This includes Catie Curtis and Sean Staples of the Resophonics among many others. This album is well-played and given a sensitive treatment by capable hands. Add Kris's stellar voice and songwriting on top and you've got a great album that's difficult to remove from rotation. Buy without hesitation.

    But listen.

Songs like Hott Tonight.. the beat is cute, to be honest with you.. something that I could SERIOUSLY consider banging at a party, just for sh*ts and giggles lol..

Hate U 2.. with some serious bass, this song is actually some serious stuff lol.. I don't know.

R U Lyrically Fit- straight up flame.. the first dude Luminati is AWFUL.. but Canibus spits straight up the most sure-fire stuff on the album for his duration.

Boxcutta Bladerunner is nasty.. straight up banging track.

Draft Me- not bad.. I can listen..

Different Vibe in LA- below average mainstream attempt.. but pleasurable.

    2 out of 5 stars I'm a Canibus fan, but damn....................2005-06-21

This album is 99.9% terrible. The only song worth anything on this album is "Box Cutta Blade Runna". Many people hate on Canibus, and this just fuels their fire. If you like Canibus, get any other album of his minus this one. I suggest "2000 B.C."

1 out of 5 stars Fifty Dollars ?! someone should be made to suffer.......2005-05-25

I saw where some soulless sack of trash is selling this for $50 used on here...I hope you get violently ill. Greed of that amount is sickening, capitalizing on loyal fans with a deeper appreciation of music than most will get you a scholarship to hell.

that being said, for all you newer Canibus fans, or anyone who hasnt heard this album, please dont even give a second thought to these absurd prices. just pretend this release never happened. this nearly ended his career. "Box Cutta Blade Runner" and, argubaly "Draft Me" are the only 2 songs on here you will ever want to hear again. pick up any of his other albums, as he does not have a bad one aside from this, and they are all worth your Money. he even has some EP's at his micclub website like "Brainstream" and "My Name is Nobody" that you would be much better off with. this may be the worst album ever put out by an artist of this skill level. I remember picking this up on its first day back in late 01. one of the biggest disapiontments ever, especially after the incredible 2000 BC.

If your foolish enough to still waste an absurd amount of money on this, to "complete your canibus collection" thats suspect. you wont be playing this album again after hearing it. Anyone who buys this will regret it later

    5 out of 5 stars nice album.......2005-03-15

different then what we expect from the illest emcee today but its still a nice alternative..

    4 out of 5 stars the truth.......2005-03-14

o.k this is what it really is.canibus gets busy nomatter what anybody says.and c-true hollywood stories just prooves it again.the album is hot because he knows how to rip sombody apart, then he can turn around and make a album thats funny.and that new kid pakman thats down with really really gets busy because i have not seen to many rappers that can even do so many songs wit canibus and still shine.then i heard some other music from pakman thats not on c-true hollywood stories and its hot hot hot.and this is no lie his new album comes out 3-15-2005.i really been following pakman's career so i know what im talking about.his album is called (chow time)and it's way way hotter then the rymes he was spiting on c-true hollywood stories.and he got mad heads on like rass kass, kurupt, canibus of corse thats who got him in the game, killa priest, and he got artist from the inc.BOTTOM LINE PAKMAN GOT HIS RYMES RIGHT.

5 out of 5 stars An undiscovered talent........1999-04-02

I first came upon the name Laurie Lewis from a Bluegrass sampler. The track "Who Will Watch The Home Place ?" was stunning and I quickly found the album it was on - True Stories - and purchased it. I can only say the rest of the album is as good, if not better, than that sample track. Laurie's voice has the adaptability to cover several styles, including cajun, showcased on this album. Maybe she is already well known in the U.S.A. but here in Britain she remains an undiscovered talent. I have been collecting records for 40 years and this one is certainly high on my list of all time favourites. Check out the samples, you won't be disappointed.
