Editorial Reviews

Sunz of Man gathers Killah Priest, Prodigal Sunn, Hell Razah, and 60 Second Assassin--all members of the Wu-Tang (extended) Clan--together for a mediocre 19-track run through the swamps. Like previous Wu family releases, the song remains the same here, with clever wordplay emphasizing self-worth and apocalyptic visions. To stave off early retirement, Sunz enlist proven hit makers as producers: the Wu-Tang's own RZA, 4th Disciple, Supreme, and the red-hot Wyclef, who is joined by Ol' Dirty Bastard and Earth, Wind & Fire for a nice recreation of EW&F's "Shining Star." Method Man appears on "Collaboration '98," while U-God and Raekwon add their voices to "Intellectuals." Without these three tracks, it's hard to imagine The Last Shall Be First getting into the shopping basket of anyone but a Wu completist. --Todd Inoue

The Los Angeles Times
Attempting to illuminate their music with an abundance of biblical references, this Wu-Tang Clan offshoot fizzles rather than sizzles.

5 out of 5 stars The Best of Sunz of Man.......2006-04-09

Old Testament is the CD you want if your new to the group and want to hear the best songs from Sunz of Man. Soldiers of Darkness, Saviorz Day, Five Arch Angels,Shining Star...they all here. If your a wu fan you won't be dissapointed from Sunz of Man. Also if you like these guys and the Wu I would Strongly recommend you pick up some "Killarmy". I wish I could find some Killarmy in stores...

3 out of 5 stars Sunz of Man - The Old Testament .......2006-04-05

Sunz of Man's lastest offering is "The Old Testament" (2006). Wu-Tang affiliates this group is made up of Hell Razah, 60 Second Assassin, Killah Priest & Prodigal Sunn. The material on this release is not new, as this is a compiliation of some of their past work from their last album and mixtape joints. On the short "All We Got", the Sunz of Man claim to be the first group out of the Wu, and tell their story in the Rap game. The group provide a dark cut with "Five Arch Angels", which is followed up by the raw "Soldierz Of Darkness". One of the first real standouts for me is the "4 Elements", Sunz of Man shine on this cut kicking knowledge on a track about growth. The albums best track for me is "Saviorz Day", Ghostface Killah and Sunz of Man provide an excellent track while Madam D provides a nice hook. "The Old Testament" is a decent release, my personal favourite release by this group is "Freedom of Speech".

5 out of 5 stars Very deep Lyrics.......2004-07-29

I am A huge hip-hop fan and i HATE COMMERCIAL cRAP, I hate the horrible message it sends about disrecpecting our precious women. This CD Shows that you can make good music and send a great message. DEAE PSALMS is a Beautiful song I wish killah priest would have been on it.

4 out of 5 stars Great but could have been better.......2003-09-25

This is a great CD, but don't be fooled by the cameos it lists. Both RZA and Method Man only talk on skits...no rhyming from either of these MC's. Also, the track listing is somewhat different from the actual CD...for instance, LA the Darkman is on the song All We Got....which is one of my favorites by the way bc it tells a story about the group. If Killah Priest were still with them this album would have gotten 5 stars.

4 out of 5 stars hot!!!.......2002-09-17

sunz of man came nice with this one. solid lyrics and production. i was looking more for the rza to produce on this but thats aight. still a solid cd. they talk about stuff a lotta other rappers are afraid to talk about. like religion and life issues. tracks thats bangin to me are: ghettio, banksta'z, saviourz day, black or white, dear psalms, honey tree, time, all we got. but basically the whole cds tight. cameos on this one are method man, ghost, la the darkman, mc eiht, 12 o clock, rza, and some unknown kats. pick this one up, but keep in mind if you into that bling bling ish, i got hoes, my ... fly, and that other bush, you might not enjoy it. WU-TANG forever!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Very Good CD.......2002-09-13

5 out of 5 stars Sunz Of Man - The Last Shall Be First.......2006-07-23

One of the dopest Wu-Affiliated albums. Came out in 1998, and is now out of print in most areas. But this album is very dope and has the same exact type of Wu vibe to it. The members in the group are.. Prodigal Sunn, Hell Razah, 60 Second Assassin and Killah Priest.

First up, the lyrics. Sunz Of Man spits that real street rap while keepin up the knowledge in the lyrics. Deep lyrics, nothing commercial at all, this album is far from it. A true underground Wu banger at its finest. If your looking for a a great album with great lyrics. Look no further than this album here. You got great lyricists that spit the real, just like Killah Priest if you have heard his first debut.

Production, this album gots GREAT production. No poppy beats, all dope dark beats. You got production by 4th Disciple, Supreme, True Master, Wyclef, RZA etc. So if you know them you know they are good producers. If you are familiar with the Wu-Affiliated sound, then you know what sort of vibe this album already contains. No weak beats.

So overall, for them True Wu-Fans that want this album, look nice and hard cause its not THAT easy to find.

My Top 5 Songs

2.Flaming Swords
3.The Plan
4.Inmates To The Fire
5.Can I See You?

2 out of 5 stars I had this.......2005-11-28

Cd for about 6 years and only listen it about 3 times I just cant get into it its ok for true down to earth Wu Fans but I just like the main group.

4 out of 5 stars SUNZ OF MAN PROVE THEIR WORTH.......2005-10-10

The sunz of man are a group consisting of members Prodigal Sunn, Hell Razah, 60 sec assassin and Killah Priest. They are part of the Wu-Tang Clans extended family and prove on this debut that they can cut it with the rest of the clan, while not as diverse as the Wu in terms of rhyme styles they definitly put their own spin on what is an already established Wu sound.

The production is on point with producers such as Rza, Tru Master, 4th Deciple and Supreme giving out some very decent beats that go well with the mc's rhymes.
Guests on the album include U-God, ODB, Method Man and Raekwon which help provide that Wu-Tang authenticity.

Overall if you enjoy Wu-Tang you will enjoy this as well, Sunz of Man prove that they have talent in their own right and are not just riding of the back of the Wu name. The beats are moody and atmospheric creating some serious headnodding, highly recomended.

There could never be a better introduction to Wu-Tang's premier associates, the Sunz of Man. This album oozes with knowldege, wisdom, and understanding. Killah Priest, Progigal Sunn, 60 Second Assassin, Hell Razah lyrically represent. With additional lyrical assistance from Wu-Tangers Method Man, Ol' Dirty Bastard (R.I.P.), Raekwon,U-God, and Masta Killa, KillArmy MC Baretta 9, Hell Razah's associate 7th Embassador, production duties courtesy of RZA, Wyclef Jean, True Master, 4th Disciple, and Supreme and an appearance by the legendary Earth, Wind & Fire, u can never go wrong with "The last Shaa Be First".

4 out of 5 stars DEATH CHAMBER.......2005-03-16

This album is not for the feint hearted it's gory, prophetic and eerie.Elements has 2004 on it as it's release date but it was actually conceived b/w 1995&1999 that is a fact. One love to prodigal sun,60 secs assassin, shabazz da disciple aka holy pshyciatrist, hell razah & killah priest.

4 out of 5 stars Sunz Of Man.......2004-12-29

In actual fact, Elements is a re-issue of an album the Sunz released in early 1999 called "The First Testament". The reason why that album is unknown to fans is becaused it was released in very limited quantity. Elements, however, has about 2 or 3 additional tracks and sounds as raw as ever. The Sunz never dissapoint. The only thing left to do is for Shabazz The Disciple to join Sunz of Man once again as the 5th arch-angel and release a new album for 2005.

5 out of 5 stars SUNZ OF MAN IS BACK!!!! HELL Yeah.......2004-07-18

Finally some new stuff from Sunz Of Man!!!! The new cd "ELEMENTS" is GREAT!!!! Amazing!!! Killah Priest, Hell Razah, Prodigal Sunn, 60secondassassin. You ave to have this cd in your collection...If you're a fan of S.O.M. you will love this cd aight!!!!They're the best in the wu-tang family

From Hip-hop to hardcore, Sunz of Man has it all. Shining Star, featuring ODB and produced by Wyclef Jean is the highlight of the CD, with a Wu-Tang style delivery along with an unbelievable beat provided by Wyclef. They're on to something here. The album can be played from the beginning to the end without the repetitiveness of many other Wu-Tang production. All around success.

3 out of 5 stars good underground hip-hop.......2007-02-18

The only thing I can say about this album is that its too drawn out. There's like 5 or 6 tracks at the end of the album that aren't produced by 4th Disciple, that I think should have been left out of the album. If an album is credited to a producer, why include tracks not produced by them? Overall the production is great, 4th Disciple always comes with it. And lyrically, Hell Razah steps up to provide memorable verses and catchy choruses. I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be, but anyone who really likes Sunz Of Man(1st album) will like this one too.

5 out of 5 stars CLASSIC AND A SLEPT ON GEM........2006-12-31

This CD is truely a classic. Just about every song has a message in it to behold. If you are a fan of REAL hip hop then this is what you have been looking for. It does start to fall apart towards the last 3 songs or so but it has 20 tracks!!! Cop this and you won't be let down. 1

4 out of 5 stars Sunz of Man Pres Hell Razah &4th Disciple Freedom of Speech .......2004-12-29

The year is about to end and I have noticed no one has reviewed Hell Razah and 4th Disciple's "Freedom of Speech" (2004). I recently came across this highly slept on release. I have never followed Sunz of Man closely, having read up on them I learned they consisted of a number of different Wu-Tang affiliated rappers who have provided a number of group albums, this release however is a show of talent from two members- Hell Razah and 4th Disciple. The album starts off with powerful political cuts like "Rebel Music" and "Article One". One of my early favourites is "One Harmony", this cut is laced with a sick instrumental which Hell and 4th kill. More memorable tracks like "Oh Baby" and "Way of Life" follow, the duo lay it down whether simply entertaining the crowd or providing Hip Hop history. "Baby Girl" flows through smoothly, a memorable love tribute, which goes deep. My favourite track is the laidback "Take Ya Time" which has Hell Razah and 4th Disciple reminiscing on days past, the lyrics and chorus (Take your time young man I remember they used to say all that glitter aint gold..) to this track are off the hook. On the next track "Same Ol Thugs", Hell Razah and 4th Disciple talk to and about the ladies providing another track to remember. They shine again when rhyming about life on the streets on the excellent "Project Love" and eerie "Who Gonna Die Next". The rest of tracks lack some of the memorable production of the early part of album (maybe they ran out of money or choose a more basic production style) all the same they are decent enough. Hell Razah and 4th Disciple really represent underground Hip Hop well, their music is lyrically genuine, political and powerful and the sampling and production on the first 2/3 of this album is impressive. I recommend checking out this release.
