Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Fatha Dom is a legend of oakland underground rap.......1999-03-23

Fatha Dom is a Oakland legend. I was awaiting his second release in 1995 'mellow madness' which never came out. Mellow Madness was supposed to include the single 'Rumors' as well as a much more solid "Let 'em know". However, this album never dropped much to my dissapointment. Then comes along Oaktown's Finest which had no marketing connected with it. There were no ads in magazines or interviews with Dom on local radio stations. True to his style, he just dropped the album straight to the streets. If you aren't a fan of Oakland rap music I wouldn't recomend this album. If you like smooth tracks and beats for the trunk, pick it up. Dom can flow over tracks like water. He plays with beats like tinker toys. My only problem with this cd is that the tracks are hit and miss. Some songs contain bits and pieces of classic material while others don't have the beats that allow Fatha Dom to soar above the competition. It's my opinion that Dom should hook up with Oakland rap vet Ant Banks, get Short on a couple tracks and just do this thing right. Aside from that, this is a much slept on cd.
