An indispensable and definitive collection showcasing the passionate genius of the late rapper. The album's nonchronological sequence highlights the contradictory impulses that made Tupac's music so commanding; the 21 well-loved "hits," some slightly reedited for legal reasons, are accompanied by four previously unheard songs. Of the new material, the raw-sounding "God Bless the Dead" has been the subject of the most speculation, owing to its subject matter: a eulogizing of the late Notorious B.I.G.--a mysterious feat, since Tupac was killed six months before Biggie. And, making its first proper appearance on a Tupac album, the B-side "Hit 'Em Up" stands as the most intense outburst of pure venomous rage ever captured on tape. Whether he's waxing political, philosophical, or just plain paranoid, Tupac's empathetic, charismatic style remains unmatched. --Charley Gothic

4 out of 5 stars good intro.......2007-04-24

if you don't have any 2pac albums, this is a perfect start. The songs are very close to what I would have picked for a greatest hits.
If you really like 2pac and rap, I would say skip this and buy each of his cd's instead. There still is some great material from him not on this CD

5 out of 5 stars Every track is excellent, but there are some Missing.......2007-04-10

Bad things don't exist on this album, every trakc is Pac at his finest. However there are so many more that should be on here, like Pain (which was omitted from Above The Rim and can't be found anywhere), F*ck The World, Pour Out A Little Liquor, and tons more!!! But yes the music is all amazing with my favourite tracks being
Disc 1:
1. Keep Ya Head Up - Incredible way to start the album
2. God Bless The Dead - Whether its about Notorious B.I.G. or not the song is amazing with a very creepy beat
3. Me Against The World - Very introspective
4. So Many Tears - Pac's darkest song ever
5. Hit Em Up - All my god!!! Calling this a classic diss to me is an understatement, even those other dudes ripped Bad Boy. By far the greatest diss song ever

Disc 2:
1. Brenda's Got A Baby - Was this a true story? on the music video that was on my resurrection DVD it said "Based on a true story" but someone else say it was made up. Well its a great song anyway
2. I Ain't Mad At Cha - Amazing Daz production and lyrics
3. Changes - Another very introspective track with a fantastic piano beat
4. Dear Mama - My absolute favourite Pac song ever!!! As you know, one of the reasons why many consider Pac the best rapper ever is because no one else could make a song like this. Look at 21 Questions by 50 Cent for example, he just sounds corny, this song is genious
5. Heartz Of Men - Some prime Pac lyricism with an excellent DJ Quik beat

Peace and Rest in peace to

Tupac Amaru Shakur: 1971-1996 (We all miss ya)

5 out of 5 stars 2 Pac Forever.......2007-04-04

This CD has to be a part of your collection if you dare to call yourself a Tupac fan. Tupac Shakur is not easily dismissed when it comes to music of the century. Yeah I said music, not just "rap" music. Music is felt and moves the listener, putting it in a category is not what qualifies it. Nothin but Cali Love for my homie !!!!!!! For all you haters, listen and learn how its done on the real.

5 out of 5 stars Pac's Life.......2007-02-07

Tupac Shakur 1971-1996 was one of the pioneers for West Coast Gangsta Rap in the 90's and despite being a fantastic MC he got just as much time in the spotlight for his lifestyle, cocky attitute, controvercial behavior, problems with the law and later his premature death. Many of his early songs were thugish gangsta anthems with explicit lyrics and at times it felt like Pac got trapped under that particular charachter, but that's only one side of the story. He portaited an ideal of a young stuggling black male with a troubled past that wouldn't get away from him. From time to time there were also songs that dealt with deeper subject like unwanted pregnancy of a young girl on "Brenda's Got a Baby" Friendship "If My Home Calls", Respect For Women on "Keep Ya Head Up" and premature deaths of homies on "Life Goes On". Tupac's versability and undpredictable behavior was fascinating and his sometimes very emotional sides aswell. He was far from the one-dimensional thug as the media wanted to make him. However, after two successful solo albums Tupac was sent to jail after sexual assault on a fan. While in Jail he started reflecting over his life and eventually his third album was penned, "Me Against the World" a very deep, serious and sincere album. Songs like, the title track, "If I Die 2 Nite", "Tempations", "So Many Tears" and ofcourse the touching tribute to his mother "Dear Mama". It debuted at #1 on the album charts making Tupac the first artist in Prison to top the charts. Perhaps it was also his greatest album too. Some fans however, didn't apreciate the changed Tupac and when his forth album "All Eyez On Me" was finally released it was a back 2 back album that mostly dealt with issues that made 2pac a star back in the day. It was a huge commercial success with hits like the westcoast anthem "California Love", "How Do You Want It" "I Ain't Mad At Cha" and "Heartz of Men". It was also the first ever double album in Hip Hop, making it an even bigger ambition. He also enjoyed great success with acting, other then starring against Janet Jackson in "Poetic Justice" in 1993, he was also making a few films later on. Sadly Tupac was shot to death in a drive by shooting in September 1996 and this ultimately led to an even bigger legacy of an Hip Hop soldier dying as an martyr, and rumours started popping up that he wasn't really dead, Considering there was and still is loads on unreleased material. And who killed Tupac, was it Suge Knight that was scared he would abandon his label? or was it a vendetta from East Coast Rappers?, or was it an old feud from somewhere else?. When Tupac died he was probably the greatest rapper alive, both enormously popular, controvercial and equally good writer and MC. He did use alot of samples to his music though and his lifestyle was a contributing factor to his legacy but he was a magnificient artist that sadly left us too soon. Like some people mentioned, this "Greeatest Hits" collection was released by Death Row and some minor hits weren't included, however you get most of the important hits and with 25 songs on this doubles album you shouldn't be dissapointed. Remember, 2pac was a very productive musician and released countless of singles and having them all included would make this album too long. Overall, Great Collection that captures his best moments. Rest In Peace.

5 out of 5 stars Oh My God.......2006-12-20

Thomas E Burn's comment was the most ignorant thing i've ever heard in my life. [...] who do you think gives a [...] about your worthless opinion? That's the problem with amazon, its open for losers like this guy to post completely useless opinions. How many people do you think there are on this site who actually agree with you? You seriously don't know how silly you look with a review (if you call it that)like that. No one cares if you don't like it but don't come on here and write a pathetic review that we just laugh at.

Wow I loved this album. Just got all the essentials, I didn't own any of 2pac's records before i got this, but now i am a massive fan. They don't call it greatest hits for nothing!!! I love every track, the man was a friggin genious. He really did a great job with his music, every song you get something different. I could honestly listen to this all day. Picking my favourite is very hard but i'd have to say Dear Mama, he made songs everyone could relate to,it was just amazing. Don't sleep on this one, highly HIGHLY recommended.

Amazon.com essential recording

Simultaneously serving as both endless fodder for intellectual debates and the album most likely to be blaring out of the adjacent car's window, All Eyez on Me is a phenomenon that packs a wallop with every listen. Unquestionably the most nihilistic album to top the Billboard charts--and it's doubtful that any will match it--Eyez also manages to dish out the good-times dance tunes and still flow seamlessly. Recording commenced within hours of Tupac Shakur's release from prison, and a year's worth of pent-up ideas are unleashed with a fury akin to lifting the lid on a box of plutonium. The line between high art and insufferable reality, possibilities and self-destruction, has never been so blurred. Eyez is a landmark achievement that is unlikely to be topped by any heir apparent to the hip-hop crown. --Gregg Turkington

5 out of 5 stars A true masterpiece in every sense of the word........2007-07-05

Tupac was a true MC and poet. His improvisations and lyrics were second to none. I always said that he was the Gil Scott Heron and Curtis Mayfield of his generation because he was so insightful and knowledgable about different things from the industry itself to the politics and injustices that exist in the communities across the country. "All Eyez on me" is a true masterpiece and is my personal favorite Tupac Shakur album.

3 out of 5 stars Could Have Been a Great One Disc Album... Spread Across Two It Drags On Too Much..........2007-06-14

This album starts off great. Disc one is filled with tons of excellent material that is among the best work Pac has put out. In fact, the only track I wasn't feeling was 'How Do U Want It' with K-Ci and JoJo. Many of the tracks featured on disc one are straight up classics, such as the well-done single 'California Love (Remix)' with Dr. Dre. 'Got My Mind Made Up' is my personal favorite track on this album, and it features Redman and Method Man, who do an excellent job here. The rest of the songs on disc one range from good to excellent. I would give disc one at least a four star rating.

Disc two, however, is run of the mill 2pac affair and is filled with numerous boring and mundane tracks that really drag this set down. The opener on disc two, 'Can't C Me' which features funk legend George Clinton is definitely a highlight, and 'When We Ride' featuring the Outlawz is pretty good as well. However, the bulk of the second disc is extremely mediocre and forgettable.

This collection is still worth owning for disc one, but approach the second half of the album with caution. I found 2pac's later post-death release 'Until the End of Time' to have more worthwhile content than this release.

Stand out tracks: 'Got My Mind Made Up', '2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted', 'California Love' (remix)

5 out of 5 stars All Eyez on Pac.......2007-06-09

2Pac changed his style a bit from his previous release Me Against the World as he was now aligned with the most powerful hip hop label in the world, Death Row. He hits a grand slam for gangsta rap with this one. He shows his great aggression on the mic and collaborates extremely well with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre to make classic joints like 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted and California Love. This is one of the greatest albums ever released not just from the West Coast, but hip hop in general.

5 out of 5 stars All Eyez were on him.......2007-05-08

Im going to be brief. Upon his release from prison Tupac drops a double album classic All Eyez On Me. Even though its missing the political Pac I knew from 2pacalypse Now and Strictly For My N***az, it is nevertheless a great album that I still bump from time to time. Standout Tracks on Discs 1&2:AMBITIONZ OF A RIDAH, GOT MY MIND MADE UP(classic matchup with the Dogg Pound, Method Man and Redman), HOW DO YOU WANT IT, 2 OF AMERIKAZ MOST WANTED, NO MORE PAIN, HEARTZ OF MEN, ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE ME, TRADIN WAR STORIES, CALIFORNIA LOVE REMIX(RIP ROGER TROUTMAN), I AINT MAD AT CHA, CANT C ME, HOLLA AT ME, PICTURE ME ROLLIN, CHECK OUT TIME, ALL EYEZ ON ME(was once an anthem out here and rightfully so) and RUN THA STREETZ. Filler: The only song I cant feel is Heaven Aint Hard 2 Find. Bottom Line: 2pac dropped two classics The Seven Day Theory and All Eyez On Me. His rhymes were still sharp(even though the political side is missing)and the production was super. All in all one of the best double albums ever made. One last thing I never compared him to Malcolm X or Martin Luther King Jr but this son of a panther is not just another rapper you fool! G-Dep, House Of Pain, Lil Flip, Lil Jon(yeah right he is a hypeman)Tony Yayo etc are just rappers. Tupac, Krs-One,Chuck D, Immortal Technique,Rass Kass, Dead Prez, The Coup, Paris, Ice Cube(the old one), X-Clan, Sunz of Man, T-Kash, Uno The Prophet are all over and beyond your silly rappers and if you think all these soldiers are just rappers you need to stick to bubble gum bull**** you're used to. Next time talk what you know which is absolutely nothing which means you'll be keeping your mouth closed for a while!

Only an artist of Jay-Z's stature could have survived the indignity of In My Lifetime, Vol. 1, his stunningly poor second LP, and remain standing as one of the premier lyricists of his generation. Like Biggie did on Life After Death, Jay-Z diversifies his style here--with the Timbaland-laced "Nigga What, Nigga Who" and the dialogue "Coming of Age" (which revisits the young hustler from Jay-Z's first LP, Reasonable Doubt)--demonstrating that even when experimenting with flow, he can still crush his peers. Though the album falters notably at the end (the lazy funk of "Paper Chase," "Reservoir Dogs," and "It's Like That" could be safely cut without incident), Shawn Carter has nonetheless reclaimed his mantle as rap's leading don. --Jon Caramanica

1 out of 5 stars HOW COME HAVE WE LET THIS RAPPER GET FAMOUS ????.......2007-07-07

I bought this album in the last 1998, because I liked the Jermaine Dupri's song " Money ain't thang" (the last track of this album). In the same time I bought the excellent album of Jermaine Dupri "Life in 1472".
Just and only for this reason, I own this album of Jay-Z.
According to me, Jay-Z does well at Rap just and only in the collaborations with other rappers, that have him a guest in their albums, like Foxy Brown in "ILL NA NA " in the excellent track " I'll be" feATURING jAY-z OR LIKE NOTORIOUS B.I.G. in " Life after Deafh" in the nice track "I love the dough".
For the rest, Jay-z IS USEFUL FOR NOTHING !!!!!!!!!!!
So a question rises in spontaneous way : HOW COME HAS JAY-Z GOTTEN SO FAMOUS ?
PERHAPS THANKS TO PEOPLE LIKE ME, THAT BOUGHT A CD OF JAY-Z BY MISTAKE !!!!!!
WE have to support and let get famous talented rappers like Redman, Camp Lo, M.O.P., Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz, Onyx etc, and not, by mistake, rappers like Jay-Z.
If you want to buy a nice rap album, please check up my rap listmania, just clicking on my nickname and clicking above my listmania. Here there are 40 Hip-Hop albums choosed by me just for winning people and not for fans of the mortal masochism rap !!!
I assure that in my rap albums' list you will find the best American Hip-Hop albums. There are dance beats and strong ones and lyrics just for the winninf person in the life !!!

3 out of 5 stars Hard life.......2006-12-05

Many people will diagree with me, but out of all the albums Jay has done this album is the hardest for me to listen to. Because he has to many people on this album. Jay does not need a person breathing on a album with him more or less having other people on the album. Yes, I know he was introducing Beans and others on this album. The Best Song is Hard Knock Life, and that's because he is on the record by himself. I have never liked this album as much as the rest because of all the people on the album. However, numbers do not lie, and many platinum sales later who care what I think, and opinions are like butt's everyone has one. But in my humble opinion the best parts of this album is whenever Jay spits other than that I skip the rest.

5 out of 5 stars The beginning of Jay-Z Superstar!.......2006-09-22

Can I get a? was the first banger off this joint, then came the full leap to mainstream acceotance with Hard Knock Life(with it's Annie chorus). After this album Jay ruled hip hop. Even when DMX came along they co ruled but Jay was never knocked out of his #1 spot till Nas responded with ether in 2001. Anyways back to this review, Jay steps his game up from where he left off with "In my Lifetime vol 1". Most of the songs on here could have been sucessful singles such as Money Cash Hoes, Jigga What, Jigga Who, It's Alright, Money Aint A Thing and a couple more. The production was next level by Timbo and Swizz Beats.

5 out of 5 stars one of jigga's best.......2006-07-29

4 out of 5 stars It's A Hard Knock Life For Us (4 stars).......2006-07-05

It seems like a lot of reviewers are idiots and just want to bash Jay-Z.

Jay-Z's third album Hard Knock life was a boost in his commercial sucess. More money, more cash, more hoes...and what not comming to him. Ironically, he decides to take a dive in the subject on the song "Money, Cash, Hoes". His second single "Hard Knock Life" was a rememberable song, because it was played on the radio. No problem with that, but it was stuck in my head. "N***a What?, N***a Who?" (or Jigga What? Jigga Who?) is a fast paced song featuring Jaz-O and Amil. I have the edited version of this CD, and for some reason they took out the entire hook to the song, so I'm just left with blank spots as the chorus and Amil comming in as the song fades out. One of my favorite tracks is "Reservoir Dogs" with The Lox, Beanie Sigel, and Sauce Money. Another favorite track is "It's Alright" with Memphis Bleek, rapping decent, but the beat makes the song more enjoyable.

There are a few skippable tracks though. "Comming Of Age (Da Sequel)" is okay, but I like the first one on the Reasonable Doubt album. "Ride Or Die" and "If I Should Die" both sounds dry and slapped together. "Paper Chase" isn't all that good because Foxy Brown spits some trashy rhymes in the beginning. The well known hit "Can I Get A..." from the Rush Hour OST. I have the radio edited version of this album, but I've also heard the explicit version to the song and it sounds trashy because of it's heavy vulgarity (mostly comming from Amil).

Those are the only flaws on this album. Other than that, if you love Jay-Z or mainstream 1998 rap music, I recommend this to you.

The sequel to 2002's Verve Remixed follows and improves upon the original's formula; take material from the storied vaults at Verve Records and let top DJs of the modern era have at them. Featuring an impressive roster of dance artists like Miguel Migs, Koop, and Fila Brazillia, the trick is matching DJ with jazz standard in a way that compliments both. It's a tough chore, given the classics involved and the need to do them justice. On Sarah Vaughan's "Whatever Lola Wants," Gotan Project manage the task with distinction, filtering rustic and romantic accordions through the song's lusty machinations. Astute choices are required, like Mondo Grosso's decision to build a solid thump out of just the central melody of Archie Shepp's "Blues For Brother George Jackson." Sometimes, the best thing to do is get out of the way; Mr. Scruff's Soul Party Mix of "Do What You Wanna" only adds some background party noise to Ramsey Lewis' ripping keyboard solo. VR2 doesn't hit the mark every time, but the combinations that work accomplish what only the best dance music does--they crumble the walls between genres and encourage us all to get down together. --Matthew Cooke

The first "Verve/Remixed" focused on Divas, mostly those of the Jazz genre. This disc deviates from that enjoyable formula by expanding to female pop singers, male vocalists, and instrumentalists.

VERVE/REMIXED 2 consists of 14 newly remixed songs. Disc packaged in clear jewel case; total running time: 72:08. Booklet does not include information about the original recordings (not even songwriting credits).

There are once again two remixes of Nina Simone recordings. There are also two Ella Fitzgerald recordings remixed. Several instrumental tracks are remixed - I don't get the point of that, but they are included here.

This sequel is not nearly as good as the original.

5 out of 5 stars THE Verve.......2007-02-07

overall great album, my favorite of the series...
just the right tempo and selection of artists make this a perfect album for a chillout but up-beat enough session without falling asleep

3 out of 5 stars Another good package.......2005-12-21

This is the second remixed CD from the Verve Remixed series. These tracks are still well mixed but I do find a few tracks which are quite noisy (a bit over-the-top). Still, I think there are enough good dance tracks to keep this CD in your stereo for sometime. If you are asking for more, then try getting the 'Complete Verve Remixed Box-Set' which comes in a package of four (3 + 1) CDs.

4 out of 5 stars Yes!.......2005-11-06

So I don't listen to this kind of music very often, and I apologise if I'm being naiive or ignorant, but this is an extremely good CD. The first 5 songs are some of the best music I've heard in a long time, and I will definitely be picking up Remixed 3 after hearing this.

5 out of 5 stars oldschool must have.......2006-02-11

If you came up in the mid 80's, I mean like in high school or something like that then you will know what I am talking about. This album and the series bring back so many memories. It was when rap was "happy" and the beats are what you paid attention to and you could actually rap the whole song with the MC. These tracks are oldschool and most younger people won't get the lyric's or beats. If you are over thirty then you have to get these and if you are younger you might learn some history.

4 out of 5 stars Fantastic Beginnings of Hip Hop.......2005-10-21

A previous poster mad a really cruel review about this compilation series, and I've figured him all out. This individual is basically going on Amazon, and sampling soundbytes of certain albums, and just criticizing them just because he can. If you don't believe me, just check this person's listing of reviews. Every review is a "1 Star" Review, from Nine Inch Nails to The Killers. Please disregard his review, and listen to someone who actually "buys" and "listens" to music, and who was actually there during the beginnings of hip-hop. Many of these songs are still played at house parties, on mixshows, tv shows, and movies. The cool thing is that many jams of this era's hip hop was very lighthearted, fun, non-violent, and even downright silly, BUT they got the butts on the dancefloor, and that's what has been missing in hip hop and rap. This whole series I would recommend to anyone who is interested in historical origins of genres and sub-genres, or just want to relive a more innocent time. But like those kids on Reading Rainbow would say, "Don't Take MY Word For It"

4 out of 5 stars DJ Quik Is Fonky For The Ninety-Deuce (Rating: 9 out of 10- -4.5 stars).......2007-04-04

DJ Quik is a favorite of mine, and his music is part of the reason why I have a huge prefrence for West Coast rap. I believe his production is one of the best out there in the West. And his sophomore album "Way 2 Fonky" clearly proves that reason. This is one of those album that you can easily bump on a friday or saturday night when driving (or thats when I reach for this album). Lyrically Quik is real dope. Some of the songs he talks about getting some from the females, which I found to be a real popular topic for artists on the west back in the early 90's. "Mo *****" is one of those songs, and it has a real bouncy beat that he lays down. On "Jus Lyke Compton", Quik rhymes about how Oakland, St. Louis, San Antoino, and Denver remind him of his hometown Compton. He must have had a real bad experience in St. Louis, because he mentions it again in the song "No B.S.". (Sort of reminds me of Ice Cube's "My Summer Vacation")

His production stills were in full swing on this album. Most of the beats on this album may sound a little dated, but I have no problem with it. Quik can lay down some dope beats. "Only Fo' Tha Money" and "Jus Lyke Compton" are some of the dope beats on this album.

Guest appearances are great as well. The group 2nd II None appears on a lot of the tracks on this album. And the whole group: AMG, 2nd II None, Hi-C, and JFN, joins in with Quik on "****** Still Trippin'", one of the best tracks on the album.

Only things that are bad are the songs "Me Wanna Rip Your Girl" and "Let Me Rip Tonite". "Me Wanna Rip Your Girl" is Quik experimenting with the Reggae sound, and I personally believe that it doesn't work for him. And "Let Me Rip Tonite" is a forgettable slow song by Leroy and The Chocolate Lovelitez. Thats all of the bad things about this album that I can think of.

This album by Quik is nice. With 12 total tracks (one interlude and an outro), this is one album I recommend to fans of 90's rap music. Quik proves that he is no different from other artists from the L.A. area that dropped albums back in 1992. Even with the songs I said were bad, the entire album vibes real well and I'm pretty sure that many people will enjoy it. This album just falls short of a classic, but it's still one of the best from '92.

5 out of 5 stars Funky Enough?.......2005-08-23

Quik sure gets his funk on with "Way 2 Fonky." He draws on from what made "Quik Is The Name" so great: elaborate P-Funk samples. This album may not be on the same level as his 1st, be does have surefire hits. The title track and "Amerika'z Most Complete Artist" are awesome with nice beats exploring what it takes to keep it real and funky in the rap game. "Jus Lyke Compton" is where DJ Quik synthesizes his experiences touring in other cities, and how they are not that much different from his birthplace, all over a deep bass beat with jingle bells adding to the funky feel to the song. He also has his fair share of dirty, naughty songs like "N---az Still Trippin'" and "Mo' P---y." This album is an essential addition to your G-Funk set.

5 out of 5 stars quik back in force.......2005-05-13

I went crazy when i went into the record shop and saw that this was out after having quiks first album getting played non stop at home. I picked it up straight away and as soon as I got home I put the tape on and I turned the volume hiigh. As soon as ''americas most complete artist'' came on I knew he had pulled off another heavy album which would be tight from start to finish. I wasn't dissapointed one bit as I was chillin thinking ''Oh my god!!, he has made this sample sound mad!!''. He stepped up his level a bit from his last album and he was sounding more funky and melodious in 92, even after hearing hi-c's album and what he did on that and penthouse players, this was sounding like the best tracks I had ever heard aswel as the rhymes going over them. His beats are always on point with nice basslines, quality mixing and mastering and the tightest flows around because he had the voice for it. He went at mc eiht again which I really liked even though mc eiht couldn't even get quik a quarter as much as he got given. No disrespect, but Mc eiht was so wack compared to quik. He could not even diss vanilla ice he was that bad lol. And so quik put him in place with tim dog too. Once again quik had made another classic album covering many different aspects. He had proved that he really does mean business and he is the one in control. Much respect to one of my favourite producers/rappers ever again for this album. 1992 got stepped up and this man was responsible for the good things that evolved in these years and and onward. If you haven't got this, wake up!!!.......and order this sh#t now!!! Peace!

4 out of 5 stars Sweet............2005-04-01

Just when some east coast rappers were taking shots at the west coast for killing each other over colors, sporting jerry curls and dissing the city of Compton, The "King of the Underground" bounces back and makes sure that his presence is felt.

This is DJ Quiks follow up album to the west coast classic, "Quik Is The Name." Although this is probably everyones least favorite DJ Quick album, he still manages to display his fonky style in production and spit some of the baddest west coast lyrics laid on tracks. The album starts off with Quik crowning himself as "America'z Most Complete Artist," which he has shown worthy after dropping only two albums. No other rapper on the west coast, at that time, had made an impact on not only rap, but music in general. Songs like "Quik'z Groove II" and "When You're A Gee," which features an amazing guitar solo by Robert Bacon and a verse by PPC's Playa Hamm, showed his love for playing/making good music. Other strong tracks include "Mo' Pussy," "Jus Like Compton," and the hit "Way 2 Fonky," where DJ Quik retalliates at one of the Bronx so called finest, Tim Dogg, for making a song about DJ Quiks beloved hometown, Compton. Of course, DJ Quik would be triumphant in this battle telling the story of how the beef started and how it ended within one verse. However, the beef does not stop there. "Tha Last word" is the start of the feud between two of Comptons big named rappers on wax. DJ Quik being one of them, the other being MC Eiht from Comptons Most Wanted(CMW).

Other tracks include "Me Wanna Rip Your Girl," which once again displays Quik's love for reggae music, "Only Fo' Tha Money," where Quik is joined by 2nd II None, and the loving ballad, "Let Me Rip Tonite," where Sexy Leroy and the Chocolate Love-Lites take over the vocals to put a spell on the ladies.

Last but not least would be the title, "Niggaz Still Trippin'" where Quik is reunited with AMG, Hi-C and 2nd II None. Also appearing on this track would be the newcomer never to be heard from again, JFN, The Fonky White Nigga. This would be the follow up to the ever so tight "Niggaz Trippin," which appeared on the classic debut album of 2nd II None.

Although this album is still not yet recognized for what it's worth, it is still truly a classic album and is probably one of the best albums produced musically. I would highly recommend this album, as I would any Quik album, to rap fans of any kind.

Amazon.com essential recording

The gruesome details surrounding Tupac's third solo offering are enough to give any music fan the willies. Released when Tupac was in jail serving time for a rape conviction and just after his recovery from being shot-up gangland-style at a recording studio, this was his most introspective piece of work to date. The heavy-hearted album opens up with a radio commentary describing the circumstances surrounding his shooting, and then plunges headfirst into Pac's infatuation with death. "So Many Tears," "Death Around the Corner," and "If I Die 2Nite" are all dark, eerily prophetic tunes that lend credence to widespread theories which suggest that Pac anticipated his impending death. The perpetually thugged-out wonder reveals a more benevolent side when it comes to gender and family issues. On "Dear Mama"--a fitting tribute to his mother recorded in the "Keep Ya Head Up" vein--Pac takes listeners into the loving recesses of his heart, while on "Can U Get Away," he echoes similar respectful sentiments to black womynkind. This is probably Pac's most progressive issues-oriented release before he signed to Death Row and became a full-blown thug. --Dalton Higgins

5 out of 5 stars Pac's Very Best!.......2007-06-09

2Pac made his best album with Me Against the World. He pours out a lot of emotion into this album and he really lets you feel the dark atmosphere that he felt surrounded by after being shot. 2Pac is the very best hip hop artist at getting to your emotions and this album does it better than any other.

5 out of 5 stars one of the best.......2007-05-24

first off i have to tell MTV SUPPORTER that any true music fan knows that mtv has the worst music taste and only has artist that can hopefully sell. sorry we are not all avril lavene or brittney spears fans but you have no idea what you are talking about. Even if you were to take a cruse thro berkely or usc you will find some of the smartest people on the planet can appriciate 2pac.A great album by the greatest rapper period.

5 out of 5 stars Definitive 'Pac.......2007-04-24

This CD is what established Pac as an ARTIST, rather than just a rapper. This is a look into the windows of Pac's soul. Hip-Hop/Rap doesn't get much better than this. Pac proved the diversity, range and depth he had as a Hip Hop artist. This CD actually shined light on the genre!!! My favorite tracks: ALL OF THEM, but the ones in the heaviest rotation are: So Many Tears, and Temptations! Buy this and enjoy!!!

5 out of 5 stars My best Pac album.......2007-04-10

Hence the title, some Pac fans like this the best, others give the crown to All Eyez On Me, Makaveli or even one of the first two. Well all Pac's albums (before the posthumous ones) are fantastic so i definitely respect those opinions. But for me this is the one i listen to the most (which is at least twice a day!!!)

There isn't a single dissapointment here. All the beats are excellent, the guest appearances aren't that bad and limited and Pac shines all the way through. Now i'm not going to review all the tracks as that would take up alot of space. So i'll just comment on my top 5, which are
1. Dear Mama -Absolute genious!!! My favourite Pac song ever!!!
2. F*ck The World - A very haunting beat with 4 short verses of Pac letting out all his anger (he was going through some very hard things back then as you know)
3. Young N*ggaz - A nice jazzy beat while Pac goes through his young days to his present. A brilliant hook aswell.
4. So Many Tears - Known as the darkest rap song ever.
5. Can U Get Away - Alot of people consider this the weakest off the album, but i love it.

Honorable mention: Me Against The World - One of Pac's most instrospective tracks ever

Anyway peace and rest in peace to

Tupac Amaru Shakur - 1971-1996 (We all miss ya)

The Ruff Ryders camp is at it again. After Eve and Drag-On's solo projects, the crew is hitting heads with their second group LP, a sequel to Ryde or Die, Vol. 1. Ryde or Die, Vol. 2 is a Swizz Beatz-produced compilation that sounds a lot like video games. Whereas the crew's first LP featured DMX prominently, this one includes hardly any songs with the dog himself, Eve, or most of the original Ryders. Ryde or Die, Vol. 2 seems to be more of an opportunity for junior rhymers of the double-R, such as Yung Wun, to show their skills. Vol. 2 also gives listeners a chance to hear guest appearances by favorites such as Twista, Snoop Dogg, and Scarface. One song that stands out of this solid effort is the Sheek (of LOX), Redman, and Method Man banger, "2 Tears in a Bucket." --Vanessa Satten

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars When a series goes bad.......2007-07-16

When the first Ruff Ryders came out I could say I was bumpin it back to back but this one showed that they should have stopped while they were still ahead. What kills this one? 1. Swizz Beatz producing every track. 2. Weak guest appearances 3. Asinine skits(i.e Im a H O E and F@@@ Da Haters).
4. Repetitive material. 5. Wack newcomers to their roster. The Good: WW III feat Yung Wun, Snoop Dogg, Scarface and Jadakiss is the best song on this album. Styles P rips his solo joint Holiday in half and I hate to say it but Eve's Got It All featuring Jadakiss is alright. That's it.
The Bad: 2 Tears In A Bucket would have been great without Sheek's weak verse and that cruddy beat but Red And Meth's verses were straight. Larsiny featuring Yung Wun's Ryde Or Die Boyz is a straight filler and Larsiny's punchlines could be seen a mile away(Im not joking). Twista makes a decent performance on Twisted Heat but Drag-on's lame verses and the awkward sounding beat make the song impossible to be enjoyed. Speaking of Drag-on he drops a fillerific joint called Weed, Hoes Dough that makes you wonder why he was even signed in the first place and you can tell no effort went into that hook and song at all. The Ugly: Fright Night featuring Busta Rhymes and Swizz Cheekz is HOT GARBAGE!!! That has to be the most ludicrous hook since 30 Rocks by Eightball & MJG featuring Puffy. Jadakiss solo joint stinks because of an awful beat that sounds like hammered dookie. Not only does that joint reek but The Lox joint Go Head is also a forgettable track. Dishonorable mentions: Stomp featuring Trick Daddy and Yung Wun(!!!????!!!), DMX's The Great and Parle's Its Going Down.
Bottom Line: The Ruff Ryders series went down the tubes a little too quick. The second installment? That sucks! The thing thats even more sad is that the next to series got even worser than this one. Do yourself a favor. Stay away from this series as if it was a Deathrow Records release because its only going to get worse after vol. 4.

2 out of 5 stars There is nuthin good about this album.......2006-11-20

This is when I officially gave up on RR. Swizz beats is the worst producer in the world. All those chimes in his beats makes me wonder how many christmas songs he's influenced by. There is a couple decent tracks but not enough to get more than this. Some of the features shine but the horrible beats kill the track for me. WW3 to me is everything whats wrong with this album.

5 out of 5 stars Ruff Ryder Compliation - Nothing is Bad about this Album.......2005-08-04

This is the second album of Ruff Ryders. Swizz Compliation Part Two if noboies sure. And if you are. Then don't read this. This second album is like more Southeren Beats and They Still Rhyme The Same. Nothing is bad about this album. Just listen to it. It's more creative. And I give it 5 Stars because of that Styles P song. Holiday. Change the Chorus Lyrics and it will be better.

1. WWIII (With Snoop Dogg, Yung Wun, Scarface and Jadakiss)

2. 2 Tears in a Bucket (Method Man, Redman and Sheek Louch)

3. Got It All (With Eve and Jadakiss)

4. Ryde or Die Boyz (With Larsiny, Cassidy (He all Late [Cassidey]))

5. It's a Holiday (Skit) (Probably Drag-On, Styles, Yung Wun, and Jadakiss)

6. Holiday (Styles) (MY FAVORITE SONG ON THIS WHOLE ALBUM)

7. Weed, Hoes, Dough (Drag-On) (Better Luck Next Time)

8. **** Da' Haters (Skit) (Swizz is on the Phone with Busta Rhymes)

9. Fright Night (Swizz Beats and Busta Rhymes) (This song is mad creative)

10. My Name Is Kiss (Jadakiss) (My Favorite Solo Song By Jadakiss on this ALBUM)

11. Twisted Heat (Twista and Drag-On) (Great Down South Beat)

12. Go Head (The Lyrics By Styles P and The Beat should Be For Him)

13. I'm a H-O-E (Eve and Drag-On)

Volume 2 hit the streets just over a year since Volume 1 was dropped. The roster stays the same, except there is no Infa Red & Cross on this one, and you get Yung Wun & Swizz Beats. Not as good as Volume 1 but a little better then Volume's 3 & 4. As with volume 1, you get some big name guests as well as the RR camp and the first known verse of Swizz Beats' find, Cassidy, that I know of. 13 songs, like volume 1, but no classics and not as many horrible songs, it's more balanced. It has 2-3 almost classic tracks, 4-5 good songs, 3 ok ones, and 3 I skip. Production is decent, Swizz Beatz does 5 songs, Teflon, Mahogany, TJ Beats all do 2 songs, and P KIller Tracks & Parle each do 1. Another good one to get for fans of the Double R.

#1 - 8 (Snoop Dogg, Yung Wun, Scarface, Jadakiss)
#2 - 8 (Method Man, Sheek, Redman)
#3 - 5 (Eve & Jadakiss)
#4 - 7.5 (Yung Wun, Larsiny, Cassidy)
#6 - 9.5 (Styles -- tight beat)
#7 - 6.5 (Drag-On)
#9 - 7 (Swizz Beatz & Busta Rhymes)
#10 - 9.5 (Jadakiss -- nice beat)
#11 - 8 (Twista & Drag-On --- super fast rapping on this one)
#12 - 9 (Jadakiss, Styles, Sheek -- LOX)
#14 - 4.5 (Trick Daddy & Yung Wun)
#15 - 8 (DMX)
#16 - 4 (Parle)

Welcome to hip-hop originality. On Wyclef Jean's The Ecleftic, his beats-beyond-borders ideology, seen on the Fugees' The Score and his own Carnival, shines bright. Rap's Renaissance man, he's pushing hip-hop forward with his musical vision. Firmly rooted in an inclusive old-school aesthetic (recalling Kool Herc and Afrika Bambaataa) he's got Kenny Rogers and Pharoahe Monch sharing space on a dub plate. Youssou N'Dour guests on the indignant, powerful "Diallo." And Mary J. Blige joins Wyclef for the mournfully beautiful duet "911." Though there are many musical flavors on The Ecleftic, Jean's deft musical arrangements prevent them from descending into tokenism. But at the end of the day, there's no doubt that this is hip-hop, with taut tracks like "Thug Angels," "However You Want It," and "Pulling Me In" showing that Wyclef's holding it down for the heads, some of whom felt that his Carnival was a little too poppy. The Ecleftic contains enough anger and righteous indignation to be real hip-hop, and enough humor and musical magic to be fun. --Lizz Mendez Berry

You cannot put a whitney houston cover with a Pink Floyd cover .....period... it is not right chico..."it don't mix" if you can understand my english. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico... so I know about the underground. I love wyclef and I understand what the kid is trying to do, but it does not work. Your No woman no cry cover is really chill. but don't press your luck my friend.... whish you were here just does not sound right.

5 out of 5 stars This man take risks , make mistakes and is original.......2005-04-04

I think this a very creative record . Wyclef jean take risks , so all the songs are not the at the same level . But a record that have Diallo among the tracks deserves serious listening and deep attention. Period.
I give to it 5 stars for its artistic achievements ( and because Earth , Wind and Fire appear !!)

5 out of 5 stars Eclectic to say the least.......2004-07-20

Wyclef and the Refugee Camp hold a cross-genre fan base, being one of the influences of the hip hop world that can truly be said to have very high level of acceptance and support from non-hip-hop heads. Eleftic demonstraits why this is so beautifully. Wyclef comes with a strong album sporting an array of music that is as diverse as it is well crafted. Inspirations from classic rock, regae, soul, R&B, Dance and many other sources are noticable all over the album while successfully maintaing a very hip hop feel throughout the entire thing. This genre balancing act can be tricky but Wyclef does this wonderfully, and possibly even better than on his last solo album. The lyrics and rhymes range from not bad, to pretty good, and the singing is good as well. But the real star here is the music. The beats are diverse and enjoyable and will satisfy almost anyone. Songs like "wish you were here", "Run away", "911", "Doesnt matter", and "pulling me in" all sport styles that are different and have unique flavors to them and "Diallo Diallo" showcases wyclef's social conscious edge to his work.

All things considered some hip hop heads will argue that there isn't enough rap, or that it doesn't suit thier tastes. But Ecleftic can hold a rare title of being "hip hop for people who dont really like hip hop". And for me, and many other hip hop fans, elecftic will represent something different and a little innovative with great production work. Beats catchy enough to make you bob your head and enough soul to make you want to sing along, and plenty of culture - Wyclef proves once again on Ecleftic that hip hop is an artform that can be effectively used as glue to hold together many elements of several different musical genres at the same time, and bring it all together in a melody that's different pieces oddly compliment one another beautifully.

    4 out of 5 stars It's Aight.......2004-07-12

I like The Carnival and Preacher's Son better, but this is listenable. As far as musically, Wyclef's improved, but he is kinda immature on this album. "Where Fugees At?" is a good beat, but why's he askin? Supposedly it's his fault that they split up, according to Pras(though he's not a very reliable source). Clef also makes the mistake of trying to take on Canibus, his former protege(Canibus blamed Wyclef for the failure of his debut, and dissed him on "2000 B.C."). Clef is obviously no match for Canibus and if 'Bis retaliated on him, Clef would be finished. Besides those mistakes, and the horrible "Dirty South", Clef seems to have grown a little. On "Perfect Gentlemen", Clef defends strippers and tells the story of a romance between him and a stripper(likely false). The album misses that Fugees vibe that was still there on The Carnival. The less know guest appearences are boring, but the big names are funny and acceptable. Kenny Rogers, of all people, sings on "Kenny Rogers Dub Plate", where Wyclef and other rappers rhyme over a beat as Kenny sings the hook. This song is surprisingly likeable as is "It Doesn't Matter" which has another surprising guest, wrestler The Rock. On "911", Clef teams up with Mary J. Blige to showcase his actually not bad singing voice. Besides the awful Whitney Houston team up on her dub plate, Clef seems to have it down. Songs like "Hollyhood to Hollywood" and "Diallo" showcase his amazing creativity once again, the latter which is based on the case of the police shooting a man named Diallo 41 times for nothing. One of my favorite songs is "Wish You Were Here", which sounds alot like "Gone Til November", because of Clef's flow from singing to rapping. Basically, get Clef's other albums first(The Carnival, Preacher's Son, the fugees Score, and Pras' Ghetto Supastar).

5 out of 5 stars Haters run Wyclef Jean is at it again.......2004-06-24

This album is great. He's got two diss tracks, "Where Fugees At"(Pras, Lauryn diss) and "However You Want It"(Canibus diss). He's got emotional songs like "911", "Diallo", and "Hollywood to Hollyhood". He also has fun songs like "It Doesn't Matter", "Perfect Gentleman", and "Something About Mary". Overall this album is mostly good. I think he could've done better, but overall this is a must-by.
