3 out of 5 stars What the Habits.......2004-12-07

Now with out there counter part group Cypress Hill this album would of never been made. Yes it does have a huge hispanic influence to it. Yet if your not into it stay away from it. If you take the bounce Spanish to English this album lack skillz on a rhyme level. Sorry. The Beats where nice tho.

5 out of 5 stars There should be more rap like this.......2004-10-28

what we have here is a perfect mix of latin sounds, big band sounds and funky beats coming in altogether in one, thus making the great sounds of Delinquent Habbits. These are guys that know how to make samples from old school tracks fit in the right place unlike certain rappers and DJ's out there. All albums were great but i will admit that merry go round and freedom band were my least faves. This self-titled materpiece that should be much more known and respected than it is, and here come the horns are the best as far as i can see. these boys should stick with that style more. Anyways buy this album, it's not your typical rap album, it does go over all the same topics but in a much less boring way than all that crunk bullsh*t thats sadly hit the scene big time. I mean come on, i could come up with a crunk rhyme when i was 3 months old, what does that tell you? So get this album, if you are a person who likes real music then this is for you. Check out here come the horns as well...

5 out of 5 stars Great Tracks.......2003-06-10

When I first bought this, I didn't realize how mexican it was. So when I first listened the whole album, I was like, "what...is this???". But, it grows on you. The latin beats are gosho with some sick work on the turntables. The lyrics are tight as well. My favorite songs are #2 Lower East Side, #5 I'm addicted, #7 SALT, and #8 Good Times but they are all pretty good. I recommend you buy this album. Especially since you can get it used for less than [$].

5 out of 5 stars Delinquent Habits.......2002-02-18

delinquent habits is a great C.d with the best latin beats and good music. If you live in L.A and want to here some good tunes buy this C.d and just dance. If you know other bands like brown prime or southside vatos you need to listen to delinquent habits.

5 out of 5 stars beats and lyrics.......2000-10-28

these latin rappers represent what hip hop should be about.good beats and good lyrics.founded by sen dog of cypress hill, habits put out their first album and its bangin.it has a little latin rhythm to it and it just makes it better. stand out songs are"tres delinquentes","lower eastside","im addicted" and other great songs. its one of those cd's that is worth listening to from the first song to the last.

The main reason I bought this cd was for the 3rd song...."Return of the Tres". I saw the video for it on LINK-TV on satellite tv and thought it was great! Most of the rest of this cd is good too. I play it whenever I feel like cruisin' around. I don't really care for most rap but these guys are good because of the mix of old and new sounds they use. By the way....I'm 56 and a white guy so even old dudes like me can enjoy this!

5 out of 5 stars THE RETURN OF A CLASSIC GROUP.......2005-11-03

This album was my introduction to Delinquent Habits, I bought it after hearing the single Return of the Tres on Mtv Base (yes even Mtv sometimes gets it right) and I could not believe how great it was, this album is a classic, tracks like Return of the Tres, The Kind and Feel Good all provide their own vibe that you just can't help but love it.
The beats are fantastic bringing that Ranchero/latin sound with great applomb while using funky westcoast and new york scratch cuts to great effect.
The rhyming is first rate combining english and spanish with their own unique styles.

This album comes highly recommended and it deserves to be in every hip hop owners collection, I introduced this group to my friends and they are all big fans not to mention I got my friend to play Return of the Tres when he was djaying at his university and it became a crowd favourate with constant requests. Get this album you owe it to yourself.

4 out of 5 stars This will be one of my favorite rap albums of all time.......2002-07-09

I first became acquainted with Delinquent Habits when I heard their song on the radio back in 1996, "Tres Delinquentes." It grabbed me immediately because I grew up with my dad listening to Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass, and here was a rap song using the Tijuana Brass's "The Lonely Bull" as its hook. Wow! I liked it so well I was going to buy the whole album, but when I sampled the rest of the album, it suffered from two major drawbacks: 1) The rest of the tracks had no character, just generic rap, and 2) way too much profanity.
How pleasantly I was surprised when I heard this subsequent album, "Merry Go Round." What a world a difference! This was the album I was expecting the first time around...and it's even better than those expectations! The music is fascinating, the rapping is interesting, and there is very little profanity (something hard to find on a rap album these days!).
This album uses Latin influences much more than the first one, with "Return Of The Tres" and "Que Vuelva" being my favorites, but I like all the Latin influences musically as well as the Spanglish rapping. This is Southwest U.S. Latin sound too, not that Caribbean stuff that makes it big on the pop charts.
But as much as I like the Latin sounds, these guys shine this time around even when they're not using any sound that is distinctly Latin. "The Kind" is a rap over a sample of some killer classical music. "No Sense" is a pensive track over quiet acoustic guitars. And other sounds I just can't categorize very easily; listen to the samples of "Station Thirteen," "Feel Good," and "Midnite Spin" to get a taste of the non-Latin sounds from this album.
This album has a great variety of moods--from the street-dance sound of "Station Thirteen" to the pinata-party dance sound of "Return of the Tres," from the romantic singing of Michelle on "Que Vuelva" to the dark look at life in "No Sense," there is plenty of variety here to keep the album fresh.
I believe this will be one of my favorite rap albums of all time (and currently, the only totally rap album I like better is Urban D's "The Tranzlation"). It only gets 4 stars for one reason because I'm very conservative about giving out 5 star ratings; the weakness comes from the last three or four songs on the album which don't hold up quite as well as the rest. But that's a minor complaint. This is truly an excellent album.

5 out of 5 stars MEXICANOS BRING THAT LATIN LINGO WITH SKILL.......2005-11-03

Here in the UK, hip hop coming from latinos is a rare thing, if your name is not Cypress Hill, Fat Joe or Big Pun we don't know you. It was by chance that one night while watching Mtv Base I caught the video to Return of the tres, (released on a later album called Merry Go Round) I could not get the song out of my head it was just what I was looking for in terms of more of that raw hip hop with a latin vibe. I picked up the album Merry Go Round and was in awe of the quality of this group and when I found out that they had two previous albums it angered me a bit wondering why I had not heard of them before, anyway I started searching for their previous work and I came across this album.

First of all let's get one thing straight, I thought that Merry Go Round was a classic, this group could not possibly have another one could they? Dam straight they can, this album is fantastic.
This three man group consisting of DJ OG and mc's Ives and Kemo hail from LA and bring a sound which is both distinctly LA funk fused with the Ranchero sound (think Mariachi guitars and horns) not to mention the great scratch sample cuts provided by OG that they just takes these elements of different musical styles and fuse them to create this sound is in it's self a feat that should be applauded. I am not going to single out any tracks, they are ALL excellent, no fillers and each with their own distinctive style, this album does not suffer from same beat syndrome.
On the Rhymes Kemo and Ives are solid using spanglish lyrics with great effect and the way they blend it in so seemlessly that you don't even notice sometimes takes quite a skill to pull off although I am Latin myself and the understanding of both languages most likely gives me that impression although people that don't understand spanish or english for that matter will still be able to get a lot from this.

Overall this is a classic release, Delinquent Habits have further contributed to the growing release of great hip hop made by latins and are showing the world that they are worth knowing, highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Powerful mix of mexican sound and hip-hop.......2004-08-23

While listening to this CD, I had both the impression of being down in LA and to live an old western movie with flavors of dry sands and beautiful dark-skinned girls. Lyrics are to the point, the flow is great and the music astounding. I still listen to it regularly although I bought it 6-7 years ago.

Out doing their debut album, the tres delinquentes have made them selves one of the best latin hip hop groups I've ever heard. Loud records made a huge mistake by letting these guys get away(after this). With there lyrical flows and horn samples blaring all the guests (Sen dog of Cypress Hill, Beatnuts, and Big Pun) are eclipsed" You will definitely love this album...a classic!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Yo, Delinquent throw the XIII's up on the lower east side on this joint!.......2006-04-02

The fourth album from this Latin rap band is definitely a party album, Starting with each joint thats jus mostly fo' chillin', the group mixes a contemporary sound with traces of Latin horns and guitars. It brings to mind what Gerardo could have evolved into, but also brings to mind Oh Carolina by Shaggy. The duo of Kemo and Ives complement each other perfectly on the funky title joint, U Don't Owe Me is a tight joint about freedom from the government and media, my favorite joint Nighttime Play is a sweat joint from the Freedom Band about chillin' on the lower east side & smokin' weed, Take It All Away is a freaky joint with a horror funk thats jus good to jam to, and The Last Song is pretty much the last roach on this album mixed with sum spanish rapping, still a pretty good joint for an outro.

Delinquent Habits get their scrap on, joint smokin' on songs 1, 2, 3, *4, *6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, *13 & *14.

5 out of 5 stars FREEDOM BAND.......2003-09-12

Freedom Band is just as grand as the other three albums DELINQUENT HABITS previously released. This band is beyond talented it's amazing they haven't blown up yet. Freedom Band has me dancing, freakin, lovin and feelin good all over the place. If you're a Delinquent lover (and even if you ain't) this is one album you'll absolutely love. I can't get enough of Delinquent Habits. It doesn't sound like anything out there. Their originallity is always true. I've got mad love for those boys. There so much good music out there and I rate Delinquent Habits as one of the best bands I've ever come across. Buy this cd now. You'll be glad you did.

4 out of 5 stars Almost there..........2003-03-13

I'm at work, so i don't have no time to mumble on about each and every track and the circumstances surrounding this cd getting made and the groups history.
This is my 4th Delinquent Habits cd, and it seems like a less of a Merry-Go-Round feel and more of a 'here come the horns' feel. With the production being a lot more creative and layered (albeit more stacatto), it makes way more for the rapping itself to be the star. Unfortunatly, with the bonified success of Merry Go Round, the group does not feel they have much to prove and suprisingly, a lot of the MC'ing borders on mediocrity. This is a great let down, and I feel this would've been an awesome cd if it hadn't come right after merry go round, which is just an impossible standard to live up to. THe mc'ing is still good and the cd possesses many highlights (most of which towards the end of the cd) and the funkiness of OG- ratch cannot be denied. This cd will take a few listen to grow into if you absoloughtly adored merry-g-round, but it deserves just as much praise.
