4 out of 5 stars This rules.......2006-08-17

My friend turned me on to Rebirth a few months ago and I couldn't be happier for that recommendation. Just saw them for the second time last week in NYC and they are ridiculous live. This album is a great intro to their sound even though it's almost 20 years old.

4 out of 5 stars Phenomenal New Orleans Jazz.......2000-12-13

I first heard of Rebirth Brass Band while at the 2000 Essence Festival in New Orleans and was instantly hooked! The next best thing to seeing this group live is to purchase their cds. I promise you won't be disappointed. At the festival, the entire room was on their feet--they heated the room us so much that shoes and jackets came off, and people packed away the facades so they can let their hair down and have a great Rebirth-inspired time. I was so impressed with the group that as soon as I got home, I snapped up every cd I could find. If you want to experience jazz that will have you snapping your fingars, bobbing your head and on your feet to have a funky good time, then I truly recommend Rebirth without reservations.

5 out of 5 stars Great New Orleans Brass Band!.......2000-09-23

The Rebirth Brass Band is by far the best that I have heard in a very long time. The tuba playing is fantastic and energitc with creative bass lines that really support the ensemble.

5 out of 5 stars New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans..........1998-10-06

As teenagers in the early 80's, the Rebirth pioneered the spicy hot, undeniably danceable gumbo of trad jazz, blues and funk that became the modern New Orleans brass band sound. Following the lead of the Dirty Dozen, who expanded the brass band repertoire to include Charlie Parker and Monk, the Rebirth brought in the funk: from Professor Longhair to Fats Domino to Michael Jackson.

Founded by Satchmophile Kermit Ruffins (who went on to record some fine solo albums) and tuba funkmaster Philip Fazier, the Rebirth defined what New Orleans ought to sound like. "I Feel Like Funkin' It Up" is probably their best studio recording. And if you can't feel this music in your soul; if it doesn't move you, or make you wanna move, you'd better check your pulse!

      Album Description

"Funky, bluesy, hot, wild - call it whatever you like! Ron's music will keep you breathless. His subtitle "Wild Kingdom" is absolutely justified. The album "Live" was recorded more or less by chance - no planning, no arrangements, just the wild music of the trio, with a remarkable result." Juergen Wolf - International Archives of the Jazz Organ

      THIS IS WHAT THEY'VE SAID:

"Ron Levy is one of those artists who once you've heard him, you will remember the experience. It is a complete package. a great organ trio sound, great solos and insanely good writing."
Karl Denson - Blue Note recording artist

On this 'live' disc recorded at Boulder CO's Mountain Sun Brewery, Ron Levy's Wild Kingdom masterfully explores the vintage sounds of a killer tight B-3 organ trio with a big twist of the new soul-funky-groove vibe that is proving to be irresistible among those in the know.

Everyone from college students to traditional blues and jazz fans are testifying to the electric raw power of a 'live' RLWK jam. A hip sound that is capable of "blending jazz, blues, hip-hop, Latin and even gospel music in ways that blow apart the stylistic boxes imposed upon music in America today" Ken Franckling (UPI).

Ron Levy's seminal explosive grooves can be heard at any of his 200+ tour dates a year all across the US and have been captured previously on three highly acclaimed Cds, including 'Zim Zam Zoom' (**** Downbeat), 'B-3 Blues & Grooves' ( **** ? All Music Guide) and 'GreaZe is What's Good' (**** Jazziz).

Kickin funky live ambient grooves w/ Joe Russo on drums & John Trama on guitar and of course, Lev's HUGE Hammond organ w/ 2 Leslie speakers singin', swingin' & screamin away!
