      Hugh Le Caine, early electronic music pioneer, demonstrates his Electronic Sackbut in 1948 by playing the opening clarinet solo from Gershwin's 'Rhapsody in Blue'. Working at his Toronto laboratory, supported by the Canadian National Research Council, he went on to engineer and prototype the touch sensitive organ, variable speed recorder, multi-track recorder, and numerous other magnificent electronic instruments. And he demonstrated his inventions by composing his own music and by arranging well known tunes, demonstrating at the same time that he was a talented musician and that he had a great sense of humor. This CD, produced by Gayle Young, Le Caine's biographer, is a comprehensive compilation of his music, much of it not available before. The CD also includes many of Le Caine's spoken explanations of his demonstrations which make the CD come alive with human interest. In its commemoration of a remarkable personality and in the historical importance of its content, this is an essential CD. In the extent to which it is also enjoyable, it is a stunning accomplishment.

      For any student of electronic music, this cd is a must. The cd works on so many levels: as an historical archive, a textbook of tape and control voltage manipulation, and as an interesting listening experience. You really feel as if you are connecting with the man himself. interesting note: he died shortly before John Chowning introduced FM synthesis to the world. Coincidence?

        I'm not a ska expert, but this record would probably appeal to people into The Selecter. Every ska band with a female lead sounds like The Selecter to me... and these guys are no exception. There's some ska, some reggae, some more dub reggae, some ska.

        If you are into the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, you might skip this one. If you are into the VGS, maybe you'd like this. If you're into Hepcat, odds are good.

        Miranda stone isn't for everyone, but she's definately for me. I've had the pleasure of seeing her live 2 times and this album is the closest to a live concert you'll get. If you like Ani DeFranco, Over the Rhine, Cowboy Junkies or anything just plain great you'll love this album.

        I bought this CD on a recommendation and it is easily one of the top 5 best CDs I have bought on Amazon. Great vocals, catchy melodies, and the lyrics really speak to you. Agent 99 has a great sound. It is unique, but very catchy and mainstream at the same time. Some people say Agent 99 are Beatle-y. I guess I can see that, but I hear more of an Elton John/Billy Joel influence. Either way, this is a CD to pick up.

        Agent 99 rocks! I'm really enjoying their latest CD, Two Night Stand. It's got such a unique style. I've seen them play in concert, and I was hooked immediately. My favorite track is "At All", but "Coming Back For More" is a close second. I highly recommend this CD to anyone looking for a great new rock band!

        This is the best CD I've purchased in several years! I still listen to it all the time and enjoy it immensely each and every time. Superb guitar playing, excellent vocals, an incredible band that really has it together. Their sound is too appealing and varied to place them in just one musical category. People who like rockabilly, folk, pop and country will all appreciate what this CD has to offer. I catch them live everytime they play nearby and can't wait for their next CD release with more new stuff!
