Customer Reviews:
YOU CAN NEVER ESCAPE...THE HUNGER!! .......2007-04-26
If you are already wrecking your gray matter in trying to find the most skele-twisted, pumpkin-carving tunes for October, look no further fiends! Zombie Girl's "Back from the Dead EP" is a fresh, pulsating package of underground industrial-techno, a worm-caked dance with the demons. Containing four original tracks and three unique remixes, "Back From" occasionally exhibits a retro-psychedelic horror movie groove, which is more than suitable for any fan of Rob Zombie or the Electric Hellfire Club. Renee's morbid and sultry vocals are not once overshadowed by the stomping matrix rhythms produced by her spouse and DJ, Sebastian Komor. Both grisly and romantic underneath the strobe moonlight, the seemingly simple lyrics playfully link zombification with sexual fulfillment, embracing the most instinctual cravings while remaining tongue-in-cheek. I definitely recommend this record to all Goth fans (living or deceased) as well as Zombie Girl's 2007 debut LP. So what's left to say? Join us! Flesh and blood never tasted so good!

Customer Reviews:
Great, but no prize.......2002-03-31
The selections from the Ring trilogy, Friends in need and Fallen Angel were excellent, however, some of the special request such as joxer the mighty, seemed a little bit rushed. Wasn't that song on Volume 2 already? Where was M'Lila's song from Destiny, or the music played During the first Kiss in "The Quest"
The cd has its good points, personally "It's Over" from "THAB" with its haunting melodies portraying the consequences of war.
Xena;Warrior Princess volume six.......2002-01-09
I am so happy that the last and final cd has come out, now my collection is complete. I am very sad for the show ending, but I am glad to still collect things.
Great Collection.......2001-12-25
Well, I have them all by now, but this last one is a great collection, with the added bonus of the music from A Friend In Need.
Just another fine addition to my Xena collection!
Exceptional.......2001-11-30
I am a fanatic and devoted Xenite.I have a huge problem:i can't stop listening to that cd,since the first time i listened to it,which means 1 month! That cd is really exceptional and i think that every true and genuine Xenite should buy it!It's really good!I was moved when i heard the Fallen Angel part.I was passioned when i heard the Ring Trilogy!I was astonishing when i heard the bonus cues that were included, especially the cue from The Quill Is Mightier(fishin part),oh,i was completely satisfied!
Though, there is a complain:i can't understand, why after 6 cd's,the producers don't do a cd including cues like:M'laila's song, the cues from the Bacchaen festival, music from Deja Vou All Over Again, where in the end,Gabrielle says to Xena those wonderful words,or even the scene of the kiss in The Quest! That,i can't understand it!
Last, i believe that whoever likes LoDuca's music style, should buy this cd.
Pay attention to the 22 cue:Pas De Deux Femmes. It is one of a something and whoever remembers what's the scene of this song, will agree with me!Mmmm!
A MIX OF THE BEST, THE WORST AND THE MISSING.......2001-11-29
To all truly Xena fans this CD is a must-have but have some lacks... Fun (comedy episodes music) scores destroy the the great combination of FALLEN ANGEL, THE RHEINGOLD TRILOGY AND I FRIEND IN NEED. In the first selections LoDuca creates spectacular high level music good enough to be played in a Symphony orchestra concert. The others selections have easy-to-fill-space western cowboy music instead of put M'Lilas song of DESTINY, Amazon's climbing trees of ADVENTURES IN THE SIN TRADE and NAJARA vs XENA music that would be gladly accepted by us. I doubt the company will launch a next CD but if they'll do this track and another valuable more must be there and the adittion of some famous characters quotes like "I have many skills" from Xena.

Definitely underrated !!.......2006-11-10
I don't understand the lackluster reviews for this album because I definitely consider it as one of their better albums. Instead of the constant slow/doomy sound the band is known for, this CD is more fast paced which makes for a much better listen. As for John Tardy's vocals, I think they keep getting better as each CD is released (I can barely stand his vocals on 'The End Complete'!!) If you like their latest comeback release 'Frozen in Time' then I would recommend this CD without a doubt!
Great, non-generic death.......2006-06-09
See, in my opinion, there's only so much you can do with the standard death metal formula. Traditional DM tends to get boring rather quickly, I think, and therefore I'm always on the lookout for bands who try to push the boundaries, either in terms of brutality or . . . something else. That's why I love Bloodbath's 'Resurrection Through Carnage', and that's why I love this album from Obituary. This is not just standard, tried-and-true DM, but it actually displays influences from the rather more punk side of extreme music. I can see why DM purists are eager to condemn this album, but for any open-minded devotee of extreme music, this ought to be mandatory listening.
Doesn't come close to Obituary's past greats.......2005-07-24
1997's "Back From the Dead" was a step down from the past masterpieces that Obituary fans came to expect from "Slowly We Rot" and "Cause of Death". There isn't much diversity here, but the band's patented pummeling drum assault and John Tardy's great vocals save "Back From the Dead" from mediocrity. Opening track "Threatening Skies" is superb and an Obituary classic, while "Platonic Disease" and "Feed on the Weak" are solid. As a whole, the album is shorter than one would hope, and long time Obituary fans who grew up on the previously mentioned albums will be very disappointed here. New fans to the band are better off checking out "Cause of Death" and "Slowly We Rot" first before checking out "Back From the Dead", and hear first hand one of the greatest death metal bands of all time in their prime.
RIP Obituary.......2004-12-29
I'm basing this review on growing up with Cause of Death & Slowly We Rot...this album is not even close to these classic albums and should be avoided if you're looking for the classic sound.
FINAL GREAT DEATH METAL ALBUM.......2003-06-02
I haven't heard a better death metal album since Obituary's swansong "Back From the Dead" (1997 and still waiting) and I've been waiting for something from anyone to even touch Obituary but all of the other death metal bands are too busy either ripping off At The Gates or Mortician. "Threatening Skies" is an instant DM classic and much of the album does a good job of diversifying. This album is a much better all around product than World Demise and a good note to go out on. I give it a 5 outta 5 because it's the last Death Metal album even worth [it]and in my opinion is DMs final chapter.

Customer Reviews:
It's wonderful to have Bernstein back, but the performances fall short.......2006-11-26
These 1953 mono recordings catch Bernstein a decade after his famous debut with the NY Phil. and five years before he became their youngest-ever condcutor. It's great to hear that warm, comforting voice again, although his analyses--especially the longest one devoted to the Brahms Fourth--aren't as polished as they would become. He gets pedagogical at times and runs us through a rote example-and-explanation formula. Even then, howeer, colorful Bernstein touches peek out, and we are reminded of the man who taught an entire generation to venerate classical music.
For me, the performances themselves fall short. They were often recorded in a rush, sometimes late at night after a summer concert. I know that the Stadium Sym. is actually the NY Phil., but they don't sound particularly fine, and Bernstein's interpreatations, though vigorous, often border on the slapdash. Plowing through Beethoven's 3rd, Dvorak's 9th, Schumann's 2nd, Brahms' 4th and Tchaikovsky's 6th, I found few sparks of originaity, much less genius. This is a tough admission from one of LB's geat admirers, but there you are. The original recorded sound is also a bit thin and harsh.
Come back Lennie, we need you.......2006-02-22
This box is worth its price just for the five talks. Bernstein at this stage had a teaching style rather more stilted than the chatty sage of later years, but the combination of authority, insight and infectious enthusiasm is unique. Entertainingly offhand about the New World, he's at his best on the music he reveres most, i.e. Beethoven, Schumann, and Brahms, the first movement of whose Fourth Symphony gets a particularly in-depth analysis that left me yearning for more. Practically anyone could enjoy and learn from these talks - they're fascinating fun without a whiff of down-dumbing. When the classical and the popular cross over nowadays, the results are usually compromised and crass, but with Bernstein there doesn't even seem to be a gap to be crossed over - just a passion to share these wonders with as many people as possible. We need his all-embracing talent and vision today more than ever.
Then there are the performances. I'm not the biggest fan of mono symphonic recordings, but these positively leap down your ears, unmannered, committed and electric. It's hard to believe what was achieved under the hasty recording conditions described in the booklet. The sound is a little fierce, but good enough to make this set a wonderful gift for any open-minded but symphonically ignorant acquaintance. I can easily imagine it turning someone on to classical music.
For Bernstein enthusiasts, it's like owning a gold mine.......2005-06-19
This new album set is something that I had heard of, but never dared to hope would be released on CD. It consists of Leonard Bernstein's very first recordings of Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 (the "Eroica"), Dvorak's "New World Symphony", Schumann's Symphony No. 2, Brahms' Fourth Symphony, and Tchaikovsky's "Pathetique" Symphony. They are all conducted by Bernstein and played beautifully by an orchestra which bills itself as the New York Stadium Symphony Orchestra, but which is really the great New York Philharmonic, using the name that they gave themselves during summer concerts.
The performances are a revelation, because they demonstrate conclusively that Bernstein did not always "exaggerate" or "overinterpret" great music, as critics frequently claim. His performances here are very, very direct and straightforward, more like Fritz Reiner or Toscanini than like Bernstein.
If this album contained only Bernstein's early performances of these symphonies, it would be interesting, but it might not really attract that much attention, since he re-recorded all of these pieces in stereo in later years, and with the same orchestra.
What makes this set so valuable is that it contains his long out-of-print lectures on these symphonies, and far from what the previous reviewer claims, they never become boring and monotonous. No musician in our time, or maybe even in the history of music, was a better or more articulate and sensitive lecturer on music than Leonard Bernstein. His legendary appearances on the "Young People's Concerts" did more for the appreciation of classical music than all the "Beethoven's Wig" albums combined. (If you don't know what "Beethoven's Wig" is, check it out and shudder at how far music appreciation has fallen since Bernstein's death.)
Bernstein had a unique ability to make classical music accessible to everybody, without ever condescending to the listener or cheapening the music. His lectures on this album, previously only available to 1950's Book of the Month Subscribers (except for part of the Beethoven lecture, which is the only one that Bernstein did re-record in stereo), are invaluable both to music students and to those who are willing to listen. All of the lectures included cover all four movements of the symphonies discussed, except for the Brahms; that one is just as extensive as the others, but it covers only the first movement of the symphony.
However--be warned, the lectures do have a flaw that the symphonies themselves do not, and that is why I have subtracted one star.
The symphony recordings are obviously remastered from magnetic tape, but the lectures have been transferred from LP's. Thus, you will be able to hear an occasional click or pop from time to time, and there is a clearly audible "skip" on the Brahms lecture. It is NOT the CD being defective, or the laser beam on your player skipping; it is clearly the lecture recordings themselves. Deutsche Grammophon, which released this CD set, is very honest about the source of the transfers to compact disc, and is to be commended for this. (They mention it in the last page of the accompanying booklet.) But this shouldn't deter anybody from buying this enormously important Bernstein set.
Bernstein's Early American Recordings.......2005-04-02
The most recent batch of DG's "Original Masters" box sets boasts several titles that will leave classical collectors rejoicing, "Leonard Bernstein: The 1953 American Decca Recordings" foremost among them. This 5CD set features Lenny in his earliest recorded performances of some of his trademark works -- Beethoven's 3rd, Dvorak's 9th, Schumann's 2nd, Brahms' 4th and Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphonies. Bernstein would later re-record all of five these symphonies with the NYPO (btw, the Stadium Symphony Orchestra of New York IS the NYPO) to greater acclaim for Columbia, but these early accounts capture a brilliant young conductor at the threshold of greatness. Also after each performance, Bernstein offers a musical analysis, simplifying what the listener just heard as only he could, which is again something the conductor would become famous for in years to come. Well then, if this is such a great set, why the four-star rating? First, while the performances sound very good, these are 1953 mono recordings and the casual fan needs to be aware that analog and digital stereo recordings of these works by the conductor do exist, and are generally preferable. Second, the musical analysis is a nice touch, but certainly does not warrant repeated listenings, as does the music. In fact, nearly half of the contents of these five discs is LB talking, and it could have been filled with music instead, or simply sold as a less expensive 3CD set. However, these shortcomings aside, "Leonard Bernstein: The 1953 American Decca Recordings" is another outstanding release in a fine series.

Having pulled often-stellar duty in both genres for many a year, film-scoring vet Alan Silvestri should know if the show-biz adage that drama is easy, it's comedy that's hard is true. For the Brad Pitt/Julia Roberts comic-romantic adventure The Mexican (the title refers to an antique pistol that must be smuggled back across the border), Silvestri taps a little of his recent history--and some sage genre insight--to conjure up a breezy, playful score that evokes everything from Leone's Dollars trilogy and traditional Mexican folk music to pastoral jazz flourishes and club kitsch. But a decidedly Morricone-meets-Bacharach sensibility prevails throughout, with the composer often lovingly tweaking the familiar banjo, harmonica, and choral clichés of the spaghetti Western into music that is refreshing even as it is strangely familiar. A handful of pop songs adds another layer of loopiness to the proceedings--especially the remix of Men Without Hats' chestnut from the early 1980s, "The Safety Dance," and the sprightly "El Cable" by Mexican exotica master Esquivel. --Jerry McCulley

Alain Silvestri did a great job. He choose the songs' melodies sounds like the Spagetti Western Movies' great composer Ennio Morricone's unforgettable Spagetti Western movie themes. The Main Title and The Mexican songs are the great example ones. Also "Where is my staff" too. "Thieves" is another one of the greatest. And list goes on.. I love Ennio's songs that's why i love this soundtrack. If you love Ennio's stuffs too this soundtrack give you all you need.
Many of the soundtracks don't have every songs. So you have to find the other songs anywhere. For God's shake The Mexican is not an example oof this. This is not just a Soundtrack. IT'S a SCORE and a SOUNDTRACK. You can find the MOVIE SONGS and THE OTHER lyrical songs in this soundtrack. This is it's other plus too.
A complement to the movie which does not stand alone so well.......2002-05-27
I thought the sound track to the movie was a great complement to it but after I bought it I felt that it did not stand up by itself very well. Its themes seemed too short and disjointed. But, I plan to play it on my CD player in random mode along with other CD's. Then I think it can complement the music it is interspersed with - depending on the music.
soundtrack , the mexcian.......2001-04-22
the starting theme song, is the my all time favourite, watch the movie, and u'll know y.
Great Soundtrack for a good movie.......2001-03-06
The Soundtrack for "The Mexican" is not necessarily one of the greatest soundtracks ever made, but it does capture the essence of the movie. The distinguishable guitar plucks and the internitten catchy songs are great. Overall...if you liked the movie, you should like the soundtrack.
Hot Fun.......2001-03-06
Hot Fun is the best way to describe the soundtrack to The Mexican. It's fast paced, boisterous, and makes for great listening on any type of trip. Be prepared for drives to the grocery store to become a lot more exciting! The mix of vocal and instrumental selections add to the versatility of the disk and give it a unique flavor. Even if you haven't seen the movie, this CD would be a great addition to any CD collection!

Customer Reviews:
Top stuff.......2006-12-18
No, it's not the wasted Waysted circa 1986 but an efficient, updated version of today. I saw them on tour and they still smoke! Strong vocals, tight drumming, expressive guitar and the usual from Mr Way is as one would expect. Traditional heavy blues/hard rock, the way it should be done. Recommended.
Such a Wayste.......2005-02-25
I agree with DOJO's review below, except that 2 stars is generous. Firstly, I love these guys and although Fin's scratchy voice is an acquired taste, the old stuff was fab. Who knows what the real story is, but Chris George's guitar sound or the production job is/are woeful. It sounds like George just mailed it in from ProTools. Check out Chapman's wesbite for the real sounds. The shame of it all is that this could have been a good/great album. Sigh....
NO Paul CHapman.......2005-01-12
A weak waysted cd.Doesnt compare to SYP cd or The good the bad the waysted. No Paul Chapman on lead.Save your money and buy Save your Prayers new release or UFO new cd,You are Here.A long wait for a weak cd.Chapmans release on his web site.Much better leads.
