Editorial Reviews

Sometimes the right folks get their props for absolutely the wrong reason. Chill Rob G is probably remembered most for "The Power," that ubiquitous cheerleader anthem with the refrain, "It's getting, it's getting, it's getting kinda hectic!" When Snap illegally lifted Rob's a cappella for "Let the Words Flow" for their Eurodance hit, his label sued and then released its own version without Rob's involvement. (That version is on this reissue, ironically without the original Loleatta Holloway sample.) But make no mistake, when it was released in 1989, Ride the Rhythm was well ahead of its time. Chill Rob G's stentorian voice put him on par with contemporaries like Chuck D while his dense rhymes anticipated next-generation rappers like Organized Konfusion. Ride showcases gems like the classic "Court Is Now in Session," a gripping tale of racial profiling. Here's your chance to check out the real artist. Don't sleep a second time. --Jeff Chang

Women Short Change........2007-06-02
I think Adina Howard is great
I love her song.....It's ok for the guys to sing sexual but when a women do it she have to be a HO. Yeah right...People don't be disrespectful or hate....appreciate.
Adina keep your head up.
The best for Adina --.......2007-01-05
This CD is a bit sexual but it has not good songs on it and can be played over and over.
Good.......2006-12-17
Adina Howard's 1995 debut album featued the #2 Platinum single "Freak Like Me". It also featured several other minor hits "My Up & Down" and "It's All About You". A remixed version of "It's All About You" was released to radio although the album version is much better in my opinion. Sex sells, yes it's cliche but apparently Adina wasn't sexy enough to be considered more than a one hit wonder. Although the album went gold and to date sold 1.3 million copies that still wasn't enough to keep Adina on the billboard charts. After being dropped from her record lable in 1997 she finally retured in 2004 with a very underrated and unpromoted album "The Second Coming". Now in 2006 Adina is set to release a new album "Private Show". I just hope that she will have another hit because it's obvious that fans love Adina but critics will always refer to her as a one hit wonder unless she comes back strong.

This album was alright back in the day.......2006-08-29
I give this album 3.5 stars because of all the house party's that was left smokin back in the day. Its still kinda good now when you got the feel for those old school type beats before you hit the clubs. But if your lookin for some lyrical talent or sometype of conscious level music, this is not for you. The cover picture sums up this whole album. So don't be surprised when you hear re-hashed freaky raunchy lyrics.
There's just SOMETHING about Miss Adina............2006-04-06
ADINA HOWARD is a very beautiful, attractive, and sensual woman. Her vocals are awesome even though she doesn't really test them on this album. I loved every song, they are all original and show that she's not afraid to be just who she is. I fell in love once I saw her open at a concert for Boys II Men in 7th grade and I've been a huge fan ever since... There's just something about Adina that I love... Can't help it!

Thank you for your interest in our commercials.
The remix "Magic Carpet Ride" is by Philip Steir and is available on the soundtrack from the movie "Go". Of course, we have modified it slightly for the commercial.

Viper remix of Magic Carpet Ride is found..........2000-07-11
It had to be someone from Wisconsin to help find the remix version of the Steppenwolf classic "Magic Carpet Ride." (Thanks to Manitowoc) Philip Stier took the original added a bit, subtracted a bit and came up with the most slammin' remix I have ever heard. Can't give this CD it's due instead GO right now to the GO soundtrack...
Viper commercial remix finally found! But not here........2000-07-01
I don't really like this version of the song all that much. For those of you looking for the Viper Commercial's remix of Majic Carpet Ride, it can be found on the soundtrack to the movie GO

For all you people looking for the "viper commercial" version of Magic Carpet Ride, it is the original, sung by Steppenwolf.
Who Does The Remix For The Viper Commercial?.......2000-06-15
Okay, where can I find a copy of the "Magic Carpet Ride" remix used in the Viper Commercial? It's not the one on the "Go" soundtrack, nor is it this one. Someone please tell post on here telling us who does that remix and where we can find it!

Customer Reviews:
A Fine Soundtrack of a Fine Movie.......2007-07-15
I basically love the movie, because it's poetic along with Montana wilderness and I am a fly-fisherman. I have just bought this CD as my background music while I am tying flies. And it works very very well. Each track reminds me of each moment of the movie, especially, tracks from Track 25 "Yes, Quite a Day" to Track 31 "Hauted by Waters" just make me poignant. An exclusive interview with the composer is also very unique and worth to hear about the background of the movie. "The Moment That Could Not Last" last only 1:24, how about in our real life? Is it gonna be like Paul's? I am hautend by this soundtrack.
Review(How original huh?).......2007-01-25
Personally, this is one of the absolute BEST soundtracks I have ever listened to. The music is calming, soothing, and truly wonderful. The music is so well put together and nicely coordinated and I feel like I am watching the movie again...it also makes great to read the Laura Ingalls Wilder books too. Try it...you might be suprised how well it fits. :)
Music that transcends simple meaning..........2006-07-16
Mark Isham's score for the motion picture A River Runs Through It is one of the most memorable and emotionally captivating film scores of all time. The arrangements of strings, piano, woodwinds create a meditative and reflective range of music throughout the film capturing all the emotions of this powerful drama about an American family in rural Montana. It is at once deeply haunting, moving, nostalgic and sentimental and captures the innocence and beauty of nature and childhood, as well as darker themes of rebellion and tragedy. There is a profound sense of emotion that is embedded within the music that sweeps over me every time I hear it. A combination of happiness, sadness, excitement, and reflection. There is something simply sweeping and majestic within his music. I couldn't think of anything else that would better compliment the film. Highly recommended.

A well disguised gem.......2002-01-09
I had overlooked this record, assuming it was a re release of selected tracks from old recordings. Fortunately, I read the sleeve notes for Sunday Best and found out it was a reworking of their favourite songs in time to get possibly the last copy in the UK (It disappeared from the list the day after I bought it)
Rating it was difficult. For curiosity value it's definitely a 5. Musically it jars a little like some live recordings with different treatments of familiar songs, but I'm sure it will grow on me. (I've only played it 3 times since it arrived today)
The selection of songs and the way they are changed is interesting. Tracks span almost the whole range of their original career, emphasising the Country side of their music.
Real gems are King of the Cowboys and Last Letter Home where extra verses are added although KotC lacks some of the power of the original recording. Most recent song tackled is Rodrigo, Rita and Elaine, an unusual choice when Homestead In My Heart would have probably been a more suitable country song from that album. Listening to Russell Smith sing in the female verses on this song made me keen to listen to the original with Joan Baez and Tracy Nelson which, fortunately, I also bought when it was released on CD recently.
For collectors this is a piece of history, but those who like the country side of the ARA sound would be better off buying Russell Smith's Sunday Best CD.
for fans only.......2000-09-05
This is a rerecording of some of thei best songs, it's OK but not as good as the otiginals, so now that they have been reissued, go for the new ones, with two LP's on one cd they are probably the best value on earth.
Where is Burning the Ballroom Down?.......2000-04-24
I, too, have been looking for the Aces for YEARS! I ordered all of their recent releases except for the Concert series (based on the poor sound quality reviews). I was screaming in my car from sheer happiness. The ONLY reason I did not give this 5 stars is to plead for a re-release of "Burning the Ballroom Down." I cannot wait to see the Aces in August when they visit Denver.
Aawww yeeaahh...........1999-10-15
I think the return of the Aces has restored my faith in society a little. After stumblin' across Ride Again at a little local record store, driving these long country roads out here in the Va became a little easier to bear. Then to top that feelin' the other night I heard the Aces' cover of "The Rock" on a local station which led me to this site and to buy the newest CD. See, here like in most of the US, the country stations are mostly caught up in a love affair with that type of country music geared toward yankees in their new Tony Lamas and Stetsons ganging up in a line to do the Hokey Pokey.
The Aces never held with the commercial country scene in the 70's and 80's...they still don't. I'm really glad to find out that they have busted back onto the scene, even though I'm 5 years late in finding out about it.
Any of y'all who missed it should check out the albums from Russell Smith's solo mini-carreer. I've got two, one untitled and the other called "This Little Town".

Like De La Soul's Three Feet High & Rising, the Pharcyde's 1992 debut came at a time when hip-hop was headed in one direction, but the group was going somewhere else entirely. A crew of spunky b-boys armed with a self-deprecating sense of humor, the Pharcyde made an album that was fresh and profoundly honest. "Ya Mama" is a clever array of mother jokes set to cartoonish beats; "On the DL" has each MC unguardedly making self-denigrating confessions (like Fat Lip admitting to masturbating--previously a hip-hop no-no); and "Passin' Me By" is an ode to hopeless crushes on unattainable women. The group's playfulness was also infused with smarts, too, most visibly on "Officer." Recorded around the time of the Rodney King verdict, the song was an indictment of racial profiling--shrouded, of course, in a comic tale that parodied Public Enemy's "Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos." With animated beats from J-Swift (the West Coast version of Prince Paul) and four distinct rhyming styles, particularly Slim Kid Tre's melodiousness and Fat Lip's nerdiness, this album captures an innocence rarely seen in the music's posturing ways. It's something that this album captures forever. --Joseph Patel

Awesome Fun B-Boy Music (Rating: 10 out of 10- -5 stars).......2007-03-02
If I had to pick an album that can discribe the type of personality that I have, it would be this one here, "Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde". Funny that this album dropped back in 1992 and came from Los Angeles. A time and a place where gangsta rap was beginning to get in full spin, this group provided an excellent alternative in hip hop music. I remember when I saw the video "Passing Me By" a few years ago and thought it was an awesome song. Another excellent song would be the jammin' song "Soul Flower", a party track that packs a punch. Infact this whole CD here will be garunteed to provide something for anyone to like. From laughable songs like "Oh Sh.." and "Officer" to those love songs like "Otha Fish" to old school '88 type hip hop like "Return Of The B-Boy". This CD has it all.
No CD is perfect in anyway, but I find this to come very close to perfection. This masterpiece by The Pharcyde is one of the best CDs you can have if you love hip hop. It brings back memories of back when hip hop was fun and at the same time showed off your skills on the mic ("Housing MFs like a real estate agent" - "I'm The Type Of ***** In Charge). That is exactly what this album is all about, making fun music.
I always said that the west coast can come with come of the most creative music in hip hop. This album continues to validate my statement. I heard their follow up "Labcabincalifornia" was dope as well, and I will check that out also.

50 STARS IF YOU ASK ME.......2007-01-31
this is a great reason why radio sucks today. there was once a period where you could hear gems that came off this single until you were sick of them. now, you have to fight sleep (at least where i dwell) just to hear quality material like this.
this is class all the way. great west coast hip hop. shoot, this makes me remember groups like freestyle fellowship, da wascals, madkap, and the nonce. before this came out, i never heard a west coast act that made me forget that they were from california. they do not make them like this anymore...........ANYWHERE!!!!! i recommend absolutely everything.
Creativety, humor, honesty and charm all in the mix - the perfect hip-hop record.......2006-06-18
Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde (Delicious Vinyl 1992)
In a time when gangsta rap dominated completely - not just on the westcoast, but in the whole country - there was this nice quartet. A breath of fresh air and a style unlike anything else. Slim Kid Tre, Imani, Fat Lip & Bootie Brown was a part of the rising freestylescene in L.A., and they were more inspired by Native Tongues rather than N.W.A. and Ice-T. Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde shows musical creativity and it sounds playful. There wasn't any pressure. You could just be yourself, and that's an important premise for many classics.
Humor, honesty and charm are three other important clues, and it was this that separated The Pharcyde from the other rappers. The production is mostly handled by J-Sw!ft, he rotated between funky b-boy songs as "I'm That Type Of N*" and "Officer" and more jazzy stuff like "4 Better Or 4 Worse" and "Otha Fish". It's a lot of James Brown and J.B.'s samples, but also jazznames like Herbie Mann and Lou Donaldson. On the classic single "Passing Me By" they used Quincy Jones' "Summer In The City", but it also features a Jimi Hendrix sample. The other singles, "Ya Mama" and "Otha Fish", are also reckoned classics. On "Otha Fish" Slim Kid (now better known as Tre) could swing free with his wonderful laidback singin'. The record has a totally unique feel and energy, and not since De La Soul's revolutionary debut from 1989, 3 Feet High & Rising, had we heard an album this consistent positively and unceremonious. The Pharcyde didn't quite manage to follow up the success, even though their second, Labcabincalifornia, was a respectably try. However Bizarre Ride... have assured them a spot in "the Hip-Hop Hall Of Fame", and this set belongs home in every serious collection.
The most entertaining hip hop album EVER.......2006-04-28
"Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde" is a prime example of hip hop at its best. I believe that it is one of, if not the, very greatest hip hop album ever recorded. I have listened to hundreds of albums, all of the ones that other people claim to be the best ever, yet nothing entertains me like "Bizarre Ride". I love everything about it. The MCs (Slim Kid Tre, Fatlip, Imani Wilcox, and Bootie Brown) are absolutely hilarious, and they seriously make me laugh everytime I put this in the player. J-Swift made his mark as one of the world's greatest producers, creating beautiful jazzy, funky, and ridiculous beats for them. The subject matter goes all over the place. At one minute they're telling a silly story, the next bashing the police, and the next telling mama jokes. They yell and chant every chorus. Their immature, harmonious voices, along with a great flow, will keep you listening for the end and you'll keep coming back for more "Bizarre Ride".
The first full song is called "Oh Sh*t", a hilarious mix of stories that made the four use the exclamation. Between being busted and finding your lady is a man, over a jazzy and bluesy beat, this song is great. "4 Better Or 4 Worse" also has a great soulful beat, awesome chorus and on-point lyrics. "I'm That Type Of N**ga" is just a happy, catchy song, with a sax loop, funny chorus, and more great rhymes. "Soul Flower" is maybe my favorite beat here, it makes my head bob and puts me on the brink of dancing every time, and the beat to "On the DL" is just as great, a bass and drum heavy track with great vibes. The lyrics and hooks to both do not slack, and both are classics. "Officer" is an anti-police anthem, but it's done in the signature Pharcyde style, half-kidding the entire song. It almost sounds like a parody of a Public Enemy song, with the spinning, loopy beat and chorus. "Ya Mama" is maybe the funniest song I've ever heard. The beat is great, and I know you think you've heard mama jokes before, but wait till you hear this. A peg leg with a kickstand? An afro with a chinstrap? Where do they get this stuff? This is perfectly followed by "Passin' Me By", indisputibly one of the greatest hip hop songs of all time. The beat is among the best ever, and the lyrics tell the stories of the girls that got away. It's as legendary a hip hop song as any. "Otha Fish", one of my favorites, has a toned down, happy beat with flutes, providing hope to any lovesick teen. "Pack the Pipe", a silly story which involves giving weed to a 4-year old, and "Return of the B-Boy", an excellent groove, finish the album amazingly in a way only the Pharcyde could. Throughout the album, hilarious skits like "Quinton's on the Way", "It's Jigaboo Time", and "Pack the Pipe" only enhance the tracks.
"Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde" is a must-have for anyone who likes hip hop. It has the funniest lyrics and immaculate production. Everything went right on "Bizarre Ride", and I speak of it among the best ever, with other greats from the early 90s period like Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Souls of Mischief, and A Tribe Called Quest. You don't know what you're missing without this in your collection.
YES! THE MOST ORIGINAL HIPHOP ALBUM OF ALL TIME.......2006-04-25
FRESH. The feeling you get from Bizarre Ride II is similar to that off a bottle of chilled water on a summer's day...REFRESHING. Now that may sound to cliched, but it's true. At a time when Hiphop was constantly progressing as different artists and groups were bringing something new to the table, and making a name for themselves (1992) the Pharyce stepped up and blew away any competition for that time. This album has that x-factor that only a true Hiphop fan can appreciate. Now I do not agree with reviewers that say that this is one of the last great hiphop albums to come out before commercialism started to ambush Hiphop, since 1993/1994 was pretty much the beat years for hiphop with virtually the most innovative and creative albums in hiphop coming out, but I can see how this album can over-shadow any later releases. Now, for the music. The album contains 11 tracks and 5 skits (some of the most entertaining skits that only enhance the flow of the album further) all of which display their own individuality and carry their own memorability. "Passin Me By" is considered to be one of the best hiphop songs off all time, and it can be understood why as Fatlip etc drop a little tale over one of the most addictive and fresh melodies ever laid down (courtesy of J-SWIFT. However, unlike some releases this does not over-shadow any other song on the album resulting in you finding your "favourite" track will continually change until the day you die. "On the DL" is one of the most refreshing Hiphop songs I have ever heard, period, displaying nothing short of amazing lyrics, originality and production that only keeps you hitting the rewind button. Similarly, tracks like Ya Mama and Officer offer a more entertaining experience that contributes to justification of the albums deserved trademark title of "originality", whilst tracks like "oh Sht" and "soul flower remix" give a catchy and addictive vibe that are ideal for when you feel a bit hype or just want to engage with your music! It's all here, you are reading a review for one of the most unique and replayable albums in history, regardless of genre. The Pharcyde display styles that no other hiphop group posess or can match, and this album is the perfect oppurtunity to indugle in Hiphop's most creative side! This needs to be in the hands of a person who truly appreciates Hiphop with that Jazzy Fresh Vibe. If not, look elsewhere as this is not for you...You will not understand.PEACE

Can't see it.......2006-12-13
The critics on this CD said what they did. This CD is easily one of Montell's best along with More... It has more than a little something for everyone with a guest shot by Master P and Silkk the Shocker for good measure to add a little something else. Each song flows into the next with ease and style. No cursing or anything else needed just solid beats, songs and everything else is working on "Let's Ride"
Favs
"Let's Ride (f/Master P & Silkk the Shocker)
"When You Get Home"
"I Can Do That"
"One Last Chance"
"Anything & Everything"
to name a few off the top of my head. The cd is well worth the purchase price all around though. So if you don't have this one in your collection. Its a good bet to pick it up when you have the opportunity not something to be missed at all.
Montell's Best Album!!!.......2006-10-26
I love the way this album flows, there's a nice mix of party songs, slow songs, and introspective tracks, my favorite songs on here are "When You Get Home", "I Miss You", "Say Yes", and of course "Let's Ride", this album is almost a decade old but still bumps better than most albums out today, a must have for r&b fans
Another great album!!!.......2005-09-05
This one was not overlooked. "Let's Ride" is another one of his albums where u can slide it in the player and let it play. It starts out good and ends spiritually. It has everything for all R&B lovers - hip hop flava, smooth sexy tempos, or just a straight "How can I feel this empty space when suddenly gone" song(Track 6). If u did like any of the other albums, u should definitely - I mean - DEFINITELY buy this album and "More To Tell".
Montell Is Bout It Bout It Y'all.......1999-12-19

I found this on CD!.......2007-06-27
Back in the days of cassette tapes, I had this single. I remember the album "Chief boot knocka" because a friend of mine had it at the high school I used to go to but, I never owned a copy of it on cassette or cd. I remember the song being played lots on the radio though. They wouldn't play the album version, they would play the remix. Of course, he rewrote the song since there was the first verse that had a cuss word in it. Mix played, programmed, and rapped on this song excellently well. Unfortunately, this didn't do so well as his 1992 release of "Baby got back." "Ride" was supposed to be his follow up single two years later. Never the less, good track to dance to. I love the song and won't stop playing it unless my copy is stolen, or ruined.

Amusing Salacious Old Time Rock 'n Roll/Swing Blues.......2006-12-06
Back in the day, you couldn't come out and just sing anything that comes to mind, you had to couch them in songs with subtle titles and lyrics such as, "Mountain Oysters," or er, less subtle, "Drill, Daddy, Drill."
The problem is after all this time, they're really not that clever anymore and in particular the selections on this CD - unlike the "clsssics" of this sub genre like "60-Minute Man, " or "Back Door Man," (NOT on this CD) the songs on this CD are at best amusing and really more interesting from a historical perspective.
So, if you're a completist early r&b collector or a collector of anything remotely sexual/salacious from early r&r, then you add another star to this CD but otherwise, there are much better collections & compilations of salacious/hidden code r&b/early rock.
