Customer Reviews:
That was FAST!.......2007-06-13
I was so surprised how quick I got this order....Good JOB!
oldschool must have.......2006-02-11
If you came up in the mid 80's, I mean like in high school or something like that then you will know what I am talking about. This album and the series bring back so many memories. It was when rap was "happy" and the beats are what you paid attention to and you could actually rap the whole song with the MC. These tracks are oldschool and most younger people won't get the lyric's or beats. If you are over thirty then you have to get these and if you are younger you might learn some history.
Fantastic Beginnings of Hip Hop.......2005-10-21
A previous poster mad a really cruel review about this compilation series, and I've figured him all out. This individual is basically going on Amazon, and sampling soundbytes of certain albums, and just criticizing them just because he can. If you don't believe me, just check this person's listing of reviews. Every review is a "1 Star" Review, from Nine Inch Nails to The Killers. Please disregard his review, and listen to someone who actually "buys" and "listens" to music, and who was actually there during the beginnings of hip-hop. Many of these songs are still played at house parties, on mixshows, tv shows, and movies. The cool thing is that many jams of this era's hip hop was very lighthearted, fun, non-violent, and even downright silly, BUT they got the butts on the dancefloor, and that's what has been missing in hip hop and rap. This whole series I would recommend to anyone who is interested in historical origins of genres and sub-genres, or just want to relive a more innocent time. But like those kids on Reading Rainbow would say, "Don't Take MY Word For It"
More cheesy disco rap.......2005-08-21
Ice-T is the only good rapper on here, The rest is lameo stupid disco schlock. This is posuer rap. im talking total losers. Stupid kiddie beats make this sound like an episode of Mr Rogers
Woderful.......2005-07-28
old school songs remind me of the good ole days of just having fun

CLASSIC ELECTRO.......2006-06-01
THIS IS A NICE COMPILATION. YOU GET SOME RARE TRACKS LIKE TECHNO SCRATCH, D.E.F. MOMENTUM AND SITUATION HOT. A LOT OF THESE SONGS YOU CAN'T GET ANYWHERE ELSE UNLESS YOU GET THEM ON 12" RECORD. SO UNLESS YOU HAVE A TURNTABLE I SUGGEST YOU PICK THIS UP.
Dig a little deeper.......2000-06-23
So-so effort of late 80's 'rolling' music. Some gems. Some not-so-great cuts. Buy it if you can't find certain songs elsewhere.

Album Description
It's time for round two on this project. Again, this compilation is not only about the rarest of the rare, but about outstanding recordings that weren't appreciated well enough the first time they were released, simply because only very few had the opportunity to hear about the thing: very limited pressing quantities, a release on a spoken work or audiophile record or no commercial release at all. Plus, this was on average thirty years ago! This selection lives of the strong energetic quality and individual charm of each track. What you have here is made for listeners, clubs and dancers worldwide, able to feel the difference between things done with heart and devotion - or without.
Customer Reviews:
I love this CD.......2005-10-04
It's amazing how these artists never really blew up back in the day. I play this CD all the time, especially good in the car or cleaning the house. Very upbeat. I love track 2 and track 7. But the whole CD is really good.

Customer Reviews:
I thought I knew..........2004-06-30
This is an absolutley breathtaking album. As a fan a fan of funk, I was feeling bored with the same old tunes-- you know, Funkadelic, Bootsy, Sly, Al Green, Issac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield, etc. Love it all, but somewhat bored. This album has astonishingly RAW and GRITTY funk that has long been overdue for more exposure. Greats like Blue Mitchell, Herbie Hancock, Ramsey Lewis, and Grover Washington Jr. are some of the highpoints-- but be sure to check out the E.W.F. cover of "Getaway" by Salsoul Orchestra and "Blow Your Whistle" by Chuck Brown's band-- The Soul Searchers. Both tunes are truly inspired. The bottom line: Buy this if you can find it! It is well worth the import/rare pricing.

Customer Reviews:
P-funk for real!.......2005-02-06
This excellent collection of rap is an prime example of what rap music used to be ,insightful,thought-provoking,well-written and still fun to listen and dance to! From Houdini's incisive, intelligent comments on social relationships in"Friends" and the anti-drug anthems of "White Lines" and "Batteram",to " Looking for a Perfect Beat",this cd shows the versalitility and awareness of a hip-hop era where keeping it real meant an examination ,not a glorification of the problems in the 'hood. The bling-bling worship, and consumeristic jingoism hadn't yet undermined rap music, and this collection reflects a perspective of the hip-hop movement and its societal consciousness.Great tunes, great lyrics!Even Sexual Harassment's "I Need A Freak" is a smooth contrast to the over-the-top,tongue-hanging out the mouth misogamy that today's artists mistake for machismo.Good stuff!

Customer Reviews:
Funky, Jazzy, Groovy...you need this album!.......2001-05-30
This is a brilliant album!! Jam packed with tracks from some of the legends of jazz, soul and funk. The entire Pulp Fusion compilation series (5 albums now) is excellent.
Return to the tough side has a better array of songs and styles than Pulp Fusion Vol 1. My personal favourite tracks on this album are Celestial Blues and the very funky Dorado, which could easily be the opening theme music for a defunct 70's cop show. All the tracks are good though.
The compilation allows you to expand your current collection by providing you tidbits from different artists.
For a superb mix of funk, jazz and soul buy this album, sit back and feel the groove...
Music for Badmuthas!.......1999-07-21
Where's the FUNK? It's HERE! You MUST buy this album! NOW
Incredible Must Buy.......1999-04-08
This is one of my favorite compilation albums. I have bought many of the albums associated with each artists song, and I must say this is one bad ass album. If you like jazz and funk, this is a must buy.
