5 out of 5 stars One of the best albums of the 90's!!.......2006-08-14

I first heard Eve's Plum in the film Higher Learning. I typically dont like women singers but when I saw this gorgeous woman singing with these amazing vocals I was hooked. Their fist album Envy is outstanding!!! I have been a fan of this band since their conception. It's a shame this band did not make it but I know I supported them as well as I could in their hey day! The album opens with the stunning song "Blue" (their first single) and is followed by one of the best tracks on the album "I want it all", one of the real stars on the album is "Lovely you" and incredible piece of music! "Die like someone" (another single) was probably the most radio friendly track on the album and showcased Colleen's amazing vocals. The disc ends with "Kiss your feet" another incredible track to end this spectacular album. This album and Tears For Fears "Elemental" were the best alternative rock albums of the 90's by far. It is no secret most fans of Eve's Plum will not get into Colleen's solo work as Vitamin C and I dont disagree. I am not a fan of any of her solo stuff but she still looks amazing! I dont think it is fair to say she is a sell out but her best work will always remain with Eve's Plum hands down!

5 out of 5 stars most underated band EVER.......2005-03-17

Envy and Cheery Alive are great cds that unfortunately few have had the chance to listen to. Envy did at least have some airplay, but the tragedy lies with the abandonment of their follow up disc. This band has a brief history, but every song they recorded is really good, no stinkers anywhere. Colleen has a great voice for rock/alt/pop, and the band is accomplished. From moody melodies to fast tempo, up beat and fresh arrangements, I hope these guys made some money because they deserve to be famous rock stars.

2 out of 5 stars Meh............2004-10-27

Enjoy this while you can, because Collen Fitzpatrick (aka Eve's Plum lead singer) no longer does any rock songs at all. Most of her solo stuff has been pure teen pop. I heard Vitamin C before I was exposed to Eve's Plum. I checked this out hoping for more Vitamin C, and I was disappointed. Though neither one grabbed too much of the world's attention, Colleen seems to be getting along a little more successfully on her solo career-and rightfully so, because her solo stuff is WAY better than this annoying garage rock. Check out Vitamin C instead.

5 out of 5 stars ENVY is a MUST HAVE CD!.......2004-07-02

ENVY & CHERRY ALIVE are great albums by EVE'S PLUM. I highly reccomend you buy them if you haven't bought these EVE'S PLUM cds. It's a shame that they broke up. I love their music. Although Colleen became a solo artist known as VITAMIN C I still like her music no matter what. Everyone should own these cds!!

5 out of 5 stars A rush of hypercharged, well written punk pop........2004-01-24

Colleen Fitzpatrick (Vitamin C)'s music is brainless pop-radio fodder now, but back when she was lead singer of New York-based punk combo Eve's Plum, she was all edge and pure rock attitude.

And she had the musicianship to back it up. Michael Kotch's thick guitar arrangements make him sound like more than one guitarist; Ben Kotch's breakneck power drumming is reminiscent of Pearl Jam's Dave Abbruzzeese and Slayer's Dave Lombardo; and Fitzpatrick herself spat, snarled and ground up her lyrics in the grand tradition of the best punk vocalists like Johnny Rotten. But she had an impressive voice as well, sweet as sugar when she wants it to be, but capable of soaring highs and whispered lows. "Blue", "I Want It All" and "I Might Die" has this band baring its fangs and ripping you to shreds, while "Kiss Your Feet", "Venus Meets Pluto" and hidden track "Envy" are as quiet as the tenderest songs by Lush. Eve's Plum's special magic comes through the strongest on "Die Like Someone" where the ugly meets the beautiful, buzzsaw chords accompanying Fitzpatrick's amazing lead vocal, going from vulnerable and soulful to a fierce snarl. There's no song in '90s alt-rock quite like it.

Eve's Plum disappeared from the scene with limited fanfare, probably because it goes to such extremes with its music that the record business didn't know what to do with it. It was a real shame, because this band not only had a brawny, instantly memorable sound, its songwriting and arrangements were also well honed. Fitzpatrick would find much bigger success as Vitamin C, but Envy will always remain her strongest musical statement.

Album Description

In 1991, a group of Japanese teenagers formed an uncompromising thrash band, spitting two-minute blasts of indecipherable terror for anyone who could stand the physical and emotional damage it inflicted. Fifteen years later, punk's corpse has been cannibalized to the bone and Envy has irreparably blurred the lines dividing the various factions of hardcore. Still terrifyingly sincere, their songs are now life-affirming, triumphant portraits for anyone strong-willed enough to withstand the emotional epiphanies they inspire.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful album full of emotion........2006-10-08

The sound on this is pretty much Post Rock styled music with spoken word vocals (like Mogwai) and emotional screaming. There is truly no band like these guys and this may just be their finest work. If you like bands like Mogwai, Godspeed You Black Emperor, and Explosions In The Sky, then you'll probably like these guys quite a bit.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Most Devastating and Beautiful Records You're Likely to Ever Hear........2006-09-13

For over a decade, Envy has been creating and crossing their own boundaries in regards to what is possible within emotive hardcore. In 2001 with All the Footprints You've Ever Left..., they provided listeners with the chaos of Orchid and a certain melodic quality that would have previously seemed more suited for post rock or indie; all of this done with astonishing success. Building upon this unique quality was their 2003 release, A Dead Sinking Story, which found Envy at the highest artistic level of their career. Much of the chaos that had been present on their prior releases had been replaced by the more quiet and somber moments that began to surface on their previous record. This, of course, did not take away from the sheer emotion of the music, greatly heightened by Tetsuya Fukagawa's passionate vocal delivery. In fact, in many ways, the emotion was taken to new levels, which more than ever would lend itself to their most recent album, Insomniac Doze.

Though the path Envy would take for this album was rather clear to me, their signing to the Temporary Residence label basically set it into stone, which in turn set my expectation level on overdrive. Home to bands like Explosions In The Sky, Eluvium, and Mono, the label is a high-point for quality post rock and ambient music. Within the first ten seconds of "Further Ahead of Warp", it's very apparent what this album has in store for us. A single riff is allowed to ring as a second tremolo melody is repeated, already providing Envy's most epic melody of their career within the first minute of the song. Shortly thereafter, the melody breaks down into something more with soft drumming as Fukagawa's heavenly spoken-word vocals enter. Finally, within the second minute of the track, he begins the passionate and sorrowful screams I've grown to absolutely love over the past few years. Never, in any other genre of music, have I felt so much emotion from such a simple and monotonous scream; it goes without saying that I have no idea as to what Fukagawa is saying, as he provides vocals in nothing other than his native Japanese language. To be honest, though, it doesn't matter as much (or at all) as it usually would with nearly any other band. With one scream, vocal melody, or delicate spoken word, we're provided with an endless amount of emotion on various levels.

All of this is rolled into a single, nearly indescribable track called "Scene". Beginning with what seems to be a lost Explosions In The Sky melody and continued with more spoken word, the track explodes into a sea of cascading guitar melodies with the ever-so-light backdrop of a keyboard arrangement which, to be honest, sounds very much like a third guitar. This is, of course, not a bad thing and only adds to the depth of the track. This arrangement is repeated a couple of times throughout the track until finally, during it's last repetition, Fukagawa retreats from his mournful screams and let's the central melody speak for itself for the first and only time in the song. In doing this, Envy seem to be showing how very universal their music is and how very powerful it can be if left to stand on its own. As the track ends, I cannot help but feel like I've heard something unique and incomparable, even after what has to be my hundredth listen.

On a similar note, I think it's worth mentioning that the second track on this album, for the most part, seems to be a direct rehash of a large portion of "Chain Wondering Deeply", the first track on A Dead Sinking Story. Even more noteworthy is the fact that I had no knowledge of this until a friend mentioned it to me. It seems that only Envy could blatantly copy themselves and still seem completely fresh and original.

After the excellent "Crystallize" the album moves onto its most complete track - the fifteen minute "The Unknown Glow". The song takes a good three minutes to do anything more than generate a soft guitar melody. Being a complete song, it is still in no way the best song on the album. It is, however, an amazing track and should be mentioned if for no other reason than the three minute spoken word passage over a simple lone guitar melody in the middle of the song. I know of very few bands that could get away with something like that while holding my interest the entire time. Envy are one such band.

As the passage finally builds over a simple drum roll that seems to last nearly as long, the track explodes for a brief period and finally dies down giving way to the weakest or, more accurately, least amazing track on the album, "Night In Winter". After this, we are treated to Envy's greatest achievement, the gorgeous "A Warm Room", a fitting end to one of the most beautiful albums of this or any other year. For its entire seven minute running time the band plays what seems to be the same exact reverb-heavy notes. At times it seems as though there are five guitarists playing at once. It is so very ethereal at first, as the clean-picked tremolo melody continues for the first minute and a half, giving way to soft drumming and Fukagawa's almost obligatory spoken words. Shortly after, another layer of guitars is added as the drumming becomes more noticable. At just under three minutes the melody explodes from clean to distortion, the cymbals begin crashing in, and it feels as though the most amazing and angelic melody I've ever heard continues on for nearly an eternity. All the while, Fukagawa belts out the most mournful screams of the entire record.

As the album comes to a close, I'm generally left speechless and usually don't listen to anything else for a few hours. As it's probably evident, the word 'emotion' keeps coming up as I try my best to describe this album. It's really the one and only word that sums this record up on any level of explaination. Really, emotion defines us all and is the one thing that seperates us all at our core. By the same token, it also looks to be the only thing that keeps us together. I certainly do not know what Tetsuya Fukagawa had to say throughout this record, but I'm fairly confident that I know what he was feeling as he delivered the message. Envy have once again created a universe all their own, giving us a masterpiece of emotion and sound. Insomniac Doze is not only the best album of Envy's long career, but it is also one of the most devastating and beautiful records you're likely to ever hear.

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent Rock.......2007-06-07

Though this CD only has five songs, the songs are well composed with no bad lyrics. Like one of the commentors, I saw this band play live, and they sounded great. Once I heard the performance, I decided to buy the CD, and I will say, I am not disatisfy on buying this CD. Unlike most of the emo bands, which use a lot of power/fake chords, this band has some great guitar solos! I'd say if you are into progressive/emo rock, you will like this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Yes they are that good!.......2007-04-30

I saw this band in Detroit and I was blown away. The CD is the best disc you could ever buy. The music is like progressive rock on indi speed & these kids can write songs & play it live too! If you like King Crimson to Cute is what we aim for, this disc is for you. As a matter of fact, if you like music period, you will like this disc. You heard it here second.

5 out of 5 stars The Next Big Thing.......2007-01-09

I saw Envy On The Coast as an opening band for 30 Seconds To Mars in Chicago. They are as good, if not better live than on the CD. I thought they were awesome, so i got their autographs after their set. My friends and I ended up hanging out with the band members while the other three opening bands were playing. The guys are really cool, and really fun. And this CD, even though it's short, is a great CD. Temper, Temper and Green Eyes Don't Lie are my favourite tracks. But, they're all awesome. I found it weird that, when i bought the CD, the titles on the case and the titles when i uploaded it into iTunes were totally different, so I had to change them.

5 out of 5 stars An anarchist classic.......2007-01-08

This anarchist band from Britain has had more than their share of passionate, remarkable records to its credit, combining challenging lyrics with a unique punk style. Their debut, The Feeding of the 5000, still sounds fresh and immediate, and every word still rings true. The same can be said about Penis Envy. and perhaps to an even greater degree.

Crass are still influential today - twenty years after their breakup. It's possoble that Penis Envy may be their best album. This is punk, not hardcore, and every track is challenging; a few, like "Poison in a Pretty Pill," are completely surprising. It's difficult to describe, but while many other bands seem to talk around important issues, this band's passion comes from someting closer to commitment. Many moments of this record are still arresting. It brims with intelligence and a spirit of challenge. It bears mentioning that Penis Envy is the band's only 100% female vocal album, and each of the songs has a special sound unlike you've heard from this band before. These topics are rarely touched upon in modern songwriting.

Perhaps the most difficult thing about describing Penis Envy comes from trying to convey its completely unique sound; this isn't your garden-variety R'n'B oriented punk, and the Pistols and Clash aren't relevant to the debate. Some might find it difficult to get used to the songs at first, and short sound samples don't do justice to their fascinating song structures.

Penis Envy has earned a place on my list of very favorite punk CDs - and I can assure you that there's lots of good competition.

5 out of 5 stars System! System! System!.......2004-06-03

The only Crass album to exclusively feature the Crass women on vocals (mostly Eve Libertine with some Joy deVivre) Thats a great benefit to the listener as the lyrics are for the first time completely intelligible (Steve Ignorant often sang as though his mouth was filled with cotton) This is an extremely angry, intelligent, thought provoking album and lyrically is everything anarchist rock should be (antimaterialist, feminist, and scathing in its assement of society, its power structure and norms) The music however is not typical punk rock but is much more self-conscious and artistically mature, mixing elements of krautrock, free improv, punk, spoken word, etc. Its rythmically unswinging yet dense and complex: the guitars are used more for texture and rythym than melody, tape and vocal effects abound and the songs have a greater dynamic range than on previous albums. Crass obviously really tried to hone and expand on their original (and noisy) sound. Some of these songs: "What the F...?" and "Where Next Columbus" still give me chills down my spine. Odd, angry and original. Their best work.

5 out of 5 stars still amazing after 20 years.......2002-08-07

Quite possibly the most important album ever made. Definelty one of my favorites. It has lost none of its power over the years, and it is still as pertinent as ever. The music sounds as fresh as ever--no one else has ever managed to sound quite like them.
The lyrics though, are the point (its Crass after all). This album was a wake up call for me, and I recommend everyone spend some time with the lyric sheet. The struggle against patriarchy is the struggle the freedom of us all.

    3 out of 5 stars Crass .........2002-01-27

are one of the truly neat bands, i think...i think the stories of groups like crass, & dead kennedys should be in history books, taught to kids in classrooms as just a part of our heritage, really. it's high time punk rock & what it has done for us be noticed & brought out.

5 out of 5 stars amazing lyrics and energy.......2001-11-13

It had been well over 16 years, since I had listened to this album. Recently, I bought the cd. "Penis Envy" remains as powerful and relevant today as when it was first released. The lyrics are exceeding intelligent and challenge the listener to THINK. I appreciate CRASS more as an adult living within the "System" than I did as a teenage punk with the bad haircut and a continual desire to piss in the wind.

Most likely, only a true connoisseur of punk music will enjoy this cd. However, I highly recommend "Penis Envy" to anyone who doesn't need snappy little choruses in their music and doesn't mind a little discord.

If you like Flipper's "Generic Album," I believe you'll love this cd.

5 out of 5 stars Waves of sound.......2006-04-08

I was introduced by City of Caterpillar by a friend, which eventually led to pg. 99, Orchid, Saetia, Yaphet Kotto and most importantly Envy. The only way to listen to this CD is with the volume all the way up. Envy's beautiful melodies feel like water lapping at your feet, while their music resembles a wave hitting you full on when they take it up a notch. It really doesn't matter that Tetsu Fukagawa sings in Japanese, for reasons obvious to those who have listened to Envy. Envy is definitely in my top 10 favorite bands, along with the groups listed above. For those interested in these bands' often hard to find titles I would suggest checking out 29 North Records site.

5 out of 5 stars The best emotional hardcore you'll ever hear........2005-10-22

Post rock/metal influence ala Isis/Mogwai + amazingly raw vocals + Japan - whining - the horrible musicianship found in many emo bands = Envy = the greatest emotional hardcore band in the world.

This has been Envy 101. Homework due at the start of class tomorrow.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to this long-running band.......2005-03-31

To be honest, I'd never heard Envy before seeing them in New York City back in January, but after I heard their unique fusion of hardcore and post-rock, I was hooked. They really have their own, unique brand of hardcore, featuring moderate to slow paced riffing (almost Isis-like at parts) crushing you with a huge wall of sound, then slower, softer parts, accented by malleted drums and gentler keyboards. They've forged their own path throughout the jungle that is emotional heavy music, and hopefully will continue to do this in the future.

5 out of 5 stars the most emotional record i ever heard!! .......2004-09-21

last year, lovingly caressing my respectable collection of pretty rare records of this rather unconventional genre that i'd fallen in love with, i really thought that i owned the best of best, when i randomly came across this very vaguely known japanese band. i bought Dead Sinking Story on sheer impression from reviewers, though i'd never heard a single track of it before. i expected an alright record, and would never have dared to guess that the CD would change my view of life!
the very first listening of Dead Sinking Story i couldn't believe my ears! the incredible sincerity of emotion enducing an almost trance-like experience totally took my breath away for weeks!
now i simply can't understand why i'd spent so many years looking for the best band of this genre and never looked across the pacific ocean.
City Of Caterpillar is bliss, Isis is hypnotism, Balboa is redemption, but Envy? Envy is more than anything ever created or comprised.. Envy is GOD! - as someone mentioned before.

for those interested, here is the complete discography of Envy:

1.Breathing And Dying In This Place
    2.From Here To Eternity
3.Angel's Curse Whispered In The Edge
4.The Eyes Of Single Eared Prophet
5.All The Footprints You've Ever Left And Fear Expecting Ahead
    6.split with Iscariote
    7.Dead Sinking Story
8.split with Yaphet Kotto and This Machine Kills

reviewed january 2005: after months of frustrating and desperate search in every possible and impossible source i finally managed to buy the nearly complete discography (except the debut, which is extremely rare even in Japan where i got the rest from), thus blessing my CD collection with the "best hardcore band that you never heard".
thanks to the japanese Amazon, although it really wasn't easy especially because most of the contents don't have an english translation :/ hehe..
the rest of their albums only confirmed and punched a period mark on the fact (..my jaw is still fallen in awe..), that Envy really are the best!

to finish this review, please allow me to recommend a couple of awesome bands in the genre: Funeral Diner, A Day In Black And White, Quantice Never Crashed, Yaphet Kotto, On The Might Of Princess (especially the debut album), The Assistant...

    5 out of 5 stars epiphany.......2004-07-18

Envy are the realization of what so many other bands have tried to accomplish: excellent, majestic, melodic, thrashing harmonies composed with astonishing intelligence. What else could anyone want from their music?

    5 out of 5 stars Classic Hip-Hop.......2007-05-05

Yo, I've purchased this album three times. This is a classic hip-hop album. You don't see music like this. Not only do you have Fat Joe at his illest, you've got Primo on production. Consider the era of hip-hop in which this album was released. Primo was the man to see in terms of production. Back then, the producer did the whole album not one or two joints for radio play. Consider the fact that Primo had produced Nas's "Illmatic" a few years prior, an album that was certified "bananas" out the door. A lot was riding on this project for Primo. The follow-up to a classic is always hard...just ask OutKast. A lot was riding on the project for FatJiddo as well. His prior album made some noise but not what was to be expected from a former member of D.I.T.C. Joe definitely served notice on this album and primo picked up where he left off from Illmatic. Jealous One's Envy is a classic that will stand the test of time because it is void of the gimmicks and bullcrap that plagues modern commercial rap. No gimmicks no ploys, no guest appearances featuring latest 'made for radio supastar." Just emcee'ing at its illest.

Two years after his debut, the Boogie Down Bronxster Fat Joe is back on the scene with his sophomore effort in 1995. Titled "Jealous One's Envy," Joe is out to prove once again he can be a dominate force in New York hip-hop. Can he make a solid follow-up to his debut or will he suffer from the sophomore curse?

Wow Joe really suprised me with this album. There's not one skippable track thus making it a classic. Production is top notch and Joe's flow and lyrics again make the tracks banging. Definitely check this out if your a fan of his, Terror Squad or New York hip-hop.

    4 out of 5 stars Fat Joe's Key Sucess Back In '95 [4 stars].......2006-05-19

It's kind of hard to believe that Fat Joe actually made an album like this before, like many people said, 'sold out.' This is Fat Joe' second album back in late 1995, back when he was held down by a group called D.I.T.C. Prduction was held by DJ Primer of Gangstarr, Diamond D, L.E.S. and others.

The album starts off with no gimmics, as KRS-One is the first to rhyme as he introduces the album on "Bronx Tale". He keeps his grimy, street type flow momentum on most of the album as the L.E.S. produced "Fat Joe's In Town" and "Respect Mine" with the help of Wu-Tang's Raekwon who borrows a line from C.R.E.A.M. and uses it as the hook. Primo was busy too as he produced the better version of "Success" and "The S*** Is Real" both nice tracks. Joe himself would get behind the boards himseld and produce "Dedication" as he gives thanks to a lot of people. The album would finish off with the song "Bronx Keeps Creating It."

Most of this album is filled with real nice production some of an early/young Fat Joe's lyrics. I'd say the only two tracks I didn't like that much (not saying they were bad, put pushed the album in another direction) was "Envy" that uses elements from Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing" and the origonal "Sucess." But other than that this album holds its own. I recommend this to fans of Fat Joe's work probably up until the year 2000, because this was one of his best albums.

this is his second best album, this is when he more gangsta,he is gangsta in real life but im talkin music wise, this album is also special because you also hear an appearance for the first time none other than the great big pun on the song watch out produced by diamond d,you also hear armegeddon for the first time, which i heard who wrote fat joe's lyrics for the song success, this is a good album, but this time he's more into the mafioso themes now, which is good.let me warn you people there are no commercial tracks in this album so mainstream audience beware.i respect fat joe as a person but his music these days are horrible, get back with ditc joe, standout tracks are bronx tale (produced by diamond d featuring krs one),the s**t is real (remix by dj premier),respect mine (produced by joe fatal featuring raekwon),watch out(produced by diamond featuring big pun(first appearance),armegeddon(first appearance),and i don't know the other cat,but this is for fans of fat joe during his ditc days, new york hip hop,and mafioso hip hop.

5 out of 5 stars Before the glitz & glamour got a hold of Mr. Cartegena.......2006-01-04

Jealous One's Envy was Joe's second album....after the limited success of his debut "Fat Joe da Gangsta Represent". Fat Joe makes his second effort a memorable one. Personally, Jealous One's Envy(a moniker of his name JOE) is Joe's best album to date and his last real hip hop album in the opinion of many including your truly. This album boasts a solid effort in production(Domingo, DJ Premier and others), guest appearances(KRS-One, a much younger and a little slimmer Big Punisher(R.I.P) and a much younger Armageddon). Joe's delivery is at it's peak on this album even though it was only his second one. From beginning to end, Joe delivers raw and uncut lyrics and a timeless display of mental prowess on cuts such as "Bronx Keeps Creating It"(a strong shoutout to Joe's Bronx hometown roots) and "Dedicated" (another shoutout song to other industry cats as well as Joe's family and friends). Hip hop's downfall in the late 90's also led to Joe's demise and weak released albums...Don Cartegena, Jealous One's Still Envy, Loyalty and All Or Nothing. I would rather remember Joe from his golden days with albums such as this one.

If every musical genre needs a Weird Al Yankovic, then country music can breathe a deep sigh of relief. Cledus T. Judd is here! The music on Cledus Envy isn't innovative, but most of the songs are parodies, so there's little room for instrumental ingenuity. There is room for wit and wordplay that push parody into the realm of satire. The parodies here don't take that step, yet nearly all of them are funny. "Man of Constant Borrow" demonstrates Cledus's persona--that of an unpretentious, mildly insecure, and totally uncaring guy's guy. Many of the cuts are built around popular songs that are ripe for parody. The original songs, such as "Willie's Got a Big Deck," fit in perfectly with the familiar selections. --Mark Huntsman

This is a great and fun CD. I absolutely love the song "It's A Great Day To Be A Guy". Cledus T. Judd puts a unique comic spin to country songs.

5 out of 5 stars Cledus at his best!.......2002-07-22

This is definitely an album worth listening to. If you like Cledus, this is classic Cledus. If you've never heard of Cledus, then this is worth checking out. He is the King of Country Parodies. Cledus Envy is Cledus at his best. This album has songs such as 'Don't Mess with America' (parody of 'Only in America ' by Brooks & Dunn) and 'Breath' (parody of 'Breathe' by Faith Hill). It also has hilarious original songs like 'Willie's Got a Big Deck'. This is one album that will keep you laughing!

5 out of 5 stars Weird Al of country music.......2002-07-19

Cledus. T Judd is the Weird Al of country music...and that's a great compliment. The Man is a pure genius and this CD proves it. The pains in your gut from laughing so hard after listening will be well worth it. This CD is also well worth the money too as you will want to listen to it over and over again. I meet Cledus at the Brooks and Dunn Neon Circus and must say he was a very nice person. It was great he took the time to sign some autographs.... Buy this CD ...YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!

    5 out of 5 stars Cledus Envy.......2002-07-19

Cledus T. Judd has written many good releases in the past, but this one is by far the best.If you buy it, I know you will enjoy it.

4 out of 5 stars Solid Album From Fat Joe, 4 Stars.......2006-10-31

This ain't anywhere near his best effort like mentioned before but it's still a strong effort from the Bronx MC, there's some hot beats and raps on this album like "My Lifestyle", "We Thuggin'(both versions), "Fight Music", and "Get The Hell On With That", much respect to Joe Crack the Don for making that real hip-hop

3 out of 5 stars I think Joe finally started to realize.......2005-07-31

His vulnerability without Pun. He recruited so many to make this album hot and it was lukewarm at best. Dude even got a washed up reggae n*gga on this. Then he leaned on chester the molester(kelly) to get some mainstream appeal, it did work, cause lately he been blowin up. Fight club is the track that stands out for me bein a huge long-time fan of M.O.P. and plus I like to fight. Lyrically Joe is still lacking but next to a lot of these so-called rappers he is among the best. But I still respect him cause he keep his s*it street.

3 out of 5 stars Come on, it's not that bad.......2005-07-27

I was never a big fan of Terror Squad before "J.O.S.E.", especially because I can't stand Noreaga and I only liked Big Pun. But Joe won me over on this one, because this is his first album where there is good production and guest appearances, minus Big Pun. It's not great by any means, but there are some good songs and Joe makes some good raps.

The first few songs are nothing special really, they sound like everything else Joe has ever done in his career. "We Thuggin'" is good, with R. Kelly, strong track, there's a remix here too. "What's Luv" with Ashanti and Ja Rule was a good track too, I like the production. "Get The Hell On With That" was good too, Ludacris does a good job as a guest. A lot of the other songs are pretty forgettable, but if you listen to them, a lot of them are okay and he makes some good raps on them. Joe is pretty tight here and his career only got better from this point.

Fat Joe is not a great rapper by any means, and Terror Squad isn't amazing either, but through the years they've made some good tracks and collaborated well, and "J.O.S.E" was no exception. 50 Cent should leave Joe the heck alone because Joe has been around longer and is true to his roots, not like 50. This album isn't really worth buying unless you're a TS fan, but there are some good songs on it.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good album for his 4th solo -- not near his best.......2005-06-24

After just over 3 years since he released the great "Don Cartagena" (tied with "Loyalty" & "All or Nothing" as his best albums) Fat Joe came back with a pretty good album but far from his best work, my least favorite of his I solo albums that I have (I don't have his first 2). As for this alot of people hate on this album, but it still is decent. Since he became a bigger nap in the rap game he now has a lot of guests on here that are big names as well and not as much of his Terror Squad. He also has a few radio friendly songs so the quality goes down a touch. Guests are on 12 of the 15 songs, and rap on 9 of them, much like "Don Cartagena" you don't get a great amount of Fat Joe but he still holds his own. Production is also done by a bunch of people like all his albums and is mostly good. Buckwild does 2, and ALChemist, Psycho Les, Cool & Dre, Irv Gotti & Chink Santana, Self, DJ Nasty, Ron G, Rob Reef Tewlow, YoungLord, Bink One!, Sean Cane, Rockwilder all do 1 song. Of the 15, 1 is a classic, 2 are near classics, 4 are ok, the other 8 are good, but not great. A good album to have but not his best work.

3 out of 5 stars Kinda Weak for Freaky Flow.......2004-01-16

Man, compared to World Domination, and Keep it Live, this cd is way weak. The sound isn't full enough, it's almost like it was sequenced on a pc. Flipside proves to be getting weaker with the mic, than on the two previous albums.
Although FF does spin tight live shows, and even Flipside manages to do a decent job. Unfortunately they don't just release completely live shows.

5 out of 5 stars Freakin Again and Again.......2003-08-27

I've taken a listen to every mix Freaky Flow has put out. I'm always sittin' here saying, "Man, this guy has the skills it takes." This is the album that's gonna blow his name up. Straight from the start you know he's on with this one. His opening cut is a Freaky Flow Original titled "The Swinger". He even knows what he's doing while composing, i've never heard DnB done in 3/4 time. I didn't know whether to go to the floor or waltz! This album is it. Already on my list of quintessential Drum and Bass Mixes. Freaky Flow is on his game.
