A great evening of worship. Delirious? are an amazingly talented Christian band who are totally authentic in their worship of God.The evening rocked.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing offering.......2007-02-04

"Now is the time", the 2006 delirious? live concert at Willow Creek is a phenomenal value full CD and DVD pack - for the price of a budget CD. But there is nothing budget about this production - from the artwork, packaging, to the filming and most important the performance, delirious? creativity and excellence is stamped all over it. Congratulations to the band and production team!

What an amazing offering - and this band knows the spiritual understanding of 'offering'. This is contemporary stadium pop-rock at its best - irrespective of labels - Christian or secular market. Oftened likened to U2, delirious? are an experienced, edgy, professional outfit who play with exuberance and joy. They are the British Christian rock supergroup of the last 15 years although it would be a label they'd distance themselves from.

Having seen them twice at the New Zealand Parachute festival, I believe this captures them at the peak of their powers. They don't hold back as they journey through 15 classic tracks that encourage as much crowd participation as possible.

I loved the different filming angles that captures the light show and faces of performers and audience. With this DVD, the concert experience is more important than focusing on whether the drummer is using a flams or rim shots, or what foot pedal the guitarist is using. That's not to say that the camera doesn't focus on the appropriate musician - it just that overall the filming has creative feel.

Martin Smith still has as youthful, and infectious stage presence as what he did ten years ago. He connects with the audience with friendly eye contact, impish smile and gestures. He amazes me each time I see him again. He can be sincere and gentle and the next minute cajoling the crowd to sing out an anthem roar. He's particularly strong in the title track, 'Now is the time' and 'Every little thing' as is Stu G, who seems to grow and display stronger guitar sounds with each new album. Stu G has a wonderful array of tones and solos that are more of the Edge guitar school rather than Satriani shred. I've never heard him play with such abandon as what he plays on this album.

Yes, this is a fun concert to watch but its more than this as I kept being drawn into their hopeful, uncompromising message. 'Our God reigns' displays this - challenging, uplifting rock.

Certainly this is the time that they shine for their King.

4 out of 5 stars Solid Christian Rock.......2007-06-10

This album is full of high quality rock music and praise lyrics.

The focus is clearly on God. Each song is full of positive, Christ centered messages. The lead singer's voice is unique and adds a lot to some really excellent instrumentals.

This is an album that sounds better each time I listen to it.

5 out of 5 stars fantastic.......2007-05-31

this album is simply fantastic. Delirious never fails to deliver something original, something different from their past albums. The artwork is beautiful, and the songs are luscious. The message, as always, is challenging, and yet still serves to encourage and inspire without condemnation. Thanks, d:boys!

5 out of 5 stars May be the album of the decade............2007-03-26

There are some amazing Christian artist out today such as Delirious? and my favorite female artist Nichole Nordeman, but if you're looking for consistency in quality in music as well as all-out worship music, you will to go with Delirious? It is true I have not been a long-time Delirious? fan, I have known about them for 6 or 7 years, but was not interested in them until I heard "Inside/Outside" off of the "World Service" album(another great album by the way). I myself am a songwriter/singer and I am amazed by Delirious every time I listen to their albums, there is such consistency and fervor in their music the only band I can liken them to is U2(their older stuff, Joshua tree and before). Even doing that is to say that Delirious cannot stand by alone, which is entirely untrue.

The content of this album is rich and consistent all of the way through. From the first track "Stronger" to the last track "I'll see you"; there is a consistency that is in very few albums period. This is actually an album you WANT to listen to in its entirety. Yes, you can take the tracks separately and they are still outstanding, but listening to them together makes each track even stronger!

I wont rate tracks individually on how much better they are than the other because they are all outstanding, but rather on their stand-alone credibility. For me, honestly the best stand-alones are(In no particular order): 1. Paint this town red: because it is my alarm clock song, and yet even this track flows so well into the next. 2. All this time: I just love this song "I'm a father and a son, I've been a lover with just one, but this world can get me so undone, and I feel like I'm the only one." these lyrics are just amazing. 3. Miracle Maker: This was my 1st alarm clock song from this album, but was too mellow in the beginning. It is possibly the crux of the album. "Just one touch is not enough..." 4. Here I am send me: I could listen to this song all day! This is probably because prophets fascinate me, and it talks about one of my favorite prophets "Elijah". These are the tracks that I like to listen to on their own, and pare probably my personal favorite tracks. I would not necessarily say they are the best (well, I would for me); this is because this is an album where it seems everyone has their own favorite since every track on here is awesome!!!

The bottom line is this: If you have not purchased this album yet, DO IT NOW!!!! You are depriving yourself of not just probably the best Christian music out today, but the BEST music PERIOD!!!

God Bless ~Amy

5 out of 5 stars Sounds like Delirious....only better.......2007-03-16

Some bands who have been around for awhile depart from their original sound, and early fans don't like the new stuff anymore (eg Jars of Clay).

Delirious has blown it out of the water with this album. It sounds like Delirious, so if you love their original sound, you'll love this album. And yet, it doesn't sound like Delirious, because they have broadened their range and incorporated new sounds with their old sound.

Some things I expected on this album that did not disappoint - intriguing lyrics, driving rock rhythms, contrasting with a smooth lyrical melodies, strong instrumentation, perfect order of songs, dynamic changes and builds...

Some things I did not expect, that if you told me ahead of time I would have thought wouldn't work with Delirious' sound, but they DO!: a tiny bit of rap (and I usually hate rap), a rich and full sounding choir (I want to say black choir because it had that amazing sound, but I could be wrong), a female vocal every once in a while in just the right places, and driving quarter notes from one of the instruments on every song (adds so much movement and strength to the songs - feels very powerful).

If you are a musician, this album is right up your alley. I love to learn stuff by listening to them play!

5 out of 5 stars Now Is The Time...to buy this CD!.......2007-02-14

There's one thing you can always expect with a Delirious? CD...passion. They write passionate songs that explore their deep faith and love for Jesus, and you can tell that they mean every word they sing. I was almost sure I would be let down by this CD (since I loved "World Service" so much and thought it wouldn't measure up), but I wasn't disappointed in the least. Although this CD does not have a song as good as "Majesty (Here I Am)," there are enough songs in here to keep this CD in your rotation. "Stronger" is a great first track, and makes you know that great things are to come. "Fires Burn," "Miracle Maker," "Now Is The Time," "Solid Rock," "Take Off My Shoes," and "Our God Reigns" are incredible tracks where Martin Smith's vocals shine powerfully, ranging from low notes to ridiculously long higher notes. I would have to agree with reviewer Brian Reaves, in that "Paint The Town Red" is a little weak and almost seems out of place in this album. But other than that, this is an amazing CD and I am looking forward to see where Delirous? goes from here.

Delirious' studio releases are getting to be like Star Trek movies: every other release is the good one. While Mezzamorphis and Touch had their bright moments, it was the subsequent releases of Glo and World Service that truly testify to the musical and songwriting brilliance of these faith-based Brit rockers. Lead man Martin Smith, well known within Christian music circles for his songwriting prowess (such as "I Can Sing of Your Love Forever"), combines with guitarist Stu Garrard for 12 tracks filled with melody, catchy hooks, and enough crunch to satisfy anyone's cutting-edge tastes. The irresistible chorus lines in "Rain Down," "Majesty," and "Everyone Knows" show that the Smith-Garrard tandem knows a good pop song. But the more subtle and substantial element in World Service is the clear comfort the band has with each other. Drummer Stew Smith and bassist Jon Thatcher lay down rock-steady rhythms throughout while keyboardist Tim Jupp adds just enough spice to make it interesting. "Inside Outside" is a great example of this with plenty of space between each musician's moments. Delirious is clearly more confident and mature in their craft. Music fans in the Christian world and beyond will be all the better for it. --Michael Lyttle

"World Service" is easily the greatest Christian Album of all time. "Inside Outside" and "Rain Down" are my favorite songs of all time. Enough said.

5 out of 5 stars World Service is Awesome!.......2005-08-31

Delirious continues to grow musically. They are truly blessed by the Lord. I think this is their best album yet.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic. Fantastic. Fantastic. Fantastic. Fantastic........2005-08-06

After going for their concert, with Hillsongs, during the Festival of Praise in Singapore, it was one of the most fantasic experiences ever. Their songs are Power House! Loads of energy and loads of stage presence. Their album is just as good as their perfomance, and is a great album to buy even if your not a christian. A must buy!

5 out of 5 stars The Christian Rock album I've been waiting for...........2005-06-08

Delirious? are a band whose songs you knew before you knew them. I was introduced to them through their Accessed album where songs such as "The Happy Song" and "Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble" caught my attention.

I heard three songs from this album, "Majesty" "Rain Down" and "Every Little Thing" before I heard this album and they were a brilliant taster of what was to come. This album puts Delirious? in the rank of the top Christian Band around and Martin Smith must be hailed as one of the best song writers out there. His lyrics are both personal but open and inviting, making songs as accessible as possible but allowing the band to pour out their hearts on a CD that is fresh and plays like a live concert.

Stand out songs are "Rain Down", "Majesty" and "Feel It Coming On" as for me they go that bit further, taking Delirious' music to a new place. The chorus of "Majesty" has become a well known theme for churches across the country and after seeing the band live was, for me, one of the most powerful songs that I have experienced. "Rain Down" has a strong chorus that is uplifting but honest and the line "all around the world is singing" makes you truly believe that all around the world people would be singing this song.

This album is a very strong witness as well as an album of worship and honesty. Martin Smith's vocals have got even better and more powerful. My only complaint with this album is its structure, as I felt that some songs were placed in the wrong order, making it a little bit difficult to listen all the way through without shuffling it around a bit.

Definitely one of the best albums I own and very exciting for Christian music.

5 out of 5 stars Superb.......2005-01-31

I can make no secret of the fact that Delirious? have always had a place in my heart. If nothing else, they are probably my favourite band- they are always an inspiration and the music is somehow already part of me before I hear it. Their last album, Audio Lessonover was met with a little confusion by many people. Delirious? didn't seem quite themselves. Having said that, I certainly won't dismiss it, because it had some great songs on that have more than proved themselves live. I, and a few others, have decided that prouction on AL? squeezed some of the life out of the Delirious? sound. While that may be the case, it was a very inventive step that opened-up some new sonic avenues, especially in terms of experimenting with timbre and texture.

Unfortunately and unfairly, it seems that AL? lost the band a few fans. The previous albums: the epic prog-rock praise of Glo and the now classic Mezzamorphis had given d: a lot to live up to. For many people's money, World Service was going to be an album whose responsibility it was was put things straight again.

Grace Like A River begins with feedback and drums before launching into a furious riff; the 6/8 immediately hinting at past favourite album opener Sanctify. The chorus is classic d:, soaring and anthemic. (Adverbs that seem to crop up a great deal when people review Delirious?). This song also boasts a great Jon Thatcher bassline that never sits still- while everyone else is playing major sevenths, Jon is wandering around in some other key. After the bridge, an atmospheric few seconds of backing vocals and reverb break back into the chorus and into Martin borrowing bits of the hymn Amazing Grace. Quite a start...

Rain Down realeased as the second MP3 single is, probably the epitome of the Delirious? sound. A great intro with "do do" bv's, followed by another funky bassline. In sweeps the chorus "Rain Down / All around the world we're singing / Rain Down"- it could be no other band on earth. Strangely, while it's instantly recognisable, it's still comepletely fresh and exciting. This is a great song with everything that you'd want in a song from the d: boys; wah guitar, a great crowd singalong section and a bridge that is impossible to sing for the average human being. It's a hybrid in the line of Deeper, See The Star and Love Is The Compass- pure 'powerpop'. It started as a soundcheck, found its way onto Access:d, the live album and will shortly be an absolute killing live. Their best single for ages.

The next track is God In Heaven rumours spread about this song a while ago- that Martin had done some daring new stuff with the vocals. When I heard it, my first thought was that I liked it and that the raucous vocals were indeed very cool. As I listen to it more, the more I like it. The chorus of this song is certainly nothing to argue with, "To God in heav'n be the glory". Syncopated drums and an almost arpegiated melody make it a lot of fun to sing along to when no one else is around. The middle section features those rumoured vocals- Mart shouting "yeah yeah yeah" is pretty spine tingling. Again, this one is going to be seriously popular in a live setting; the guitars will scream and the crowd will gladly take up singing the chorus!

Proceedings shift into more contemplative mode next with Majesty (Here I Am), which was the first MP3 single from this album. As a single, it was squarely aimed at churches with the sheet music being published and the song was pushed at festivals during the Summer. There was good reason for it- Majesty is a beautiful song. Gentle acoustics and Jesus Blood style scratching and synth noises accompany a string section and the Hillsongs choir to produce a quite enchanting effect. Majesty will be a classic for years to come, whether in stadia with lighters aloft or in churches around the world.

Inside Outside follows, possibly the standout track for me (I have yet to decide). Stu G sings the verses, reminding us of Fire and A Little Love from AL?. The song has the same, slighty Radiohead-style muted feel. Stew churns out a driving beat as the song progresses, guitars weave in an out with great restraint in a slow build that will remind you of Obsession or Investigate. Suddenly, the bridge erupts, "You're all over me". The eruption finishes as suddenly as it begins, and we return to the pounding of before. The guitar tones are beautiful and I will never get bored of the melody of the chorus. The songs ends after an intense spontaneous-sounding section, and Martin sings "You celebrate me". It's a fantastic song- perhaps one of the best they have ever made. Perfectly produced and exquisitly played. The final product is a brooding reverie, mature and complex. A key song on the album.

Free is next. Guitars that sound like U2's Elevation, jazzy keyboard inflections and lazy vocals. The pre-chorus goes "I've got wings, so watch me fly", following a chromatic melody. The chorus soars with the best of them; "I'm free to be the man you want me to be". Jon's bass playing is, again, very inventive. Stu G's minature space guitar break leads back into the song's central riff that that will have you tapping away with biros on your imaginary drum kit. The song is fairly straightforward, but not suffering for it by any means. Think Fire with a laid back groove, a classic style chorus and glissando 'aaaaah' backing vocals.

Everyone Knows is a little gem. Acoustically based, it skips along with a great melody and, you guessed it, another groove bassline. When you least expect it, it breaks into a completely bizarre chorus. Pizzacato strings and synth noises, a Penny Lane music hall melody and odd out of tune sounds somehow make it sound like a narcotic baroque orchestra crossed with a fairground organ. Comepletly random- apparently compiled from bits of songs that Stu G has accumulated over the years- this song has already been berrated by some already, but I'd like to pin my colours to the mast now and say that I think it's brilliant. It's catchy and charming and quite new territory for the band.

The desperate strains of With You are next. Unusually for an up-tempo number, it is piano led. This is a real nice touch and it adds some spice to the relentless surge of drums and bass. The C, D, Em riff builds and builds until it spills into the chorus and back again until with a sudden release, the bridge arrives. Martin's vocals go through a guitar amp sim or a megaphone and the guiatrs are unleased at last. You think the song has finished, when the drums come back, shortly joined again by the bass and that piano. Backing vocals join as Martin sings (now more realxed) "I'm alive 'cos you're alive", then he changes register and the song changes gear again- Stew opens his hi-hat and the rock begins again, layers of guitars chime and when the song finishes, there is harly any time before the reverse guitar effects fade into the piano of Mountains High.

Written after the death of John Thatcher- a relative of the band, this song is an almost hopeless sigh. Adam Mills (DJ A Skillz), who you may remember from the band Sabio (neé Fruit), adds some spooky-sounding loops and scratching effects, and as the song builds, electronica guitars and bass fade in and the build-up of emotion is palpable as Martin is right at the top of his range, frantically calling, "Pull me, drag me, hold me, keep me...". The song finishes abruptly and a single violin begins the next track. It's a beautiful, intense song- a stark insight into bereavement. It is not at all sugar coated, but has faith enough to admit "Your ways are too high for us".

Some may complain that there is a lack of hope in Mountains High, but significantly, the gentle start of I Was Blind sets out imediately to say "I love your ways / they are beautiful, so beautiful to me.". Clean guitars and an oriental sounding piano ostinato soon give way to a quietly fuzzing guitar. The drums join, soaked in a gate reverb and the backing vocals bring a similar feel to Intimate Stranger. The slow burn fades and there is a great left-field guitar sound, joined presently by more layed sounds and the song progresses into "Let is shine on me"- reminiscent of Blindfold and also the middle-8 of It's OK. What started off as a quiet song is now somehow in complete dissonant chaos, which ends up sounding like a film soundtrack. A brilliant mood piece.

Penultimate songs are always important, and Feel It Coming On does a great job. Chugging bass, guitars that sound like Ash's Burn, Baby, Burn along with some cool syncopated drums create a background for some very understated vocals. The chorus arrives with a great guitar riff in a minor key that sounds like 1990's U2. As Martin sings "When you call my name / It feels like heaven", the song breaks into a run, "Will you hold me tonight". Raging guitars, fizzing drums Bond flim soundtrack strings enter, and then give way to a breakdown- piano raindrops, flange guitar, and some now trademark walking bass. The song goes into an almost half-time feel and gradually builds back up to the strength it was before. Suddenly, the wall of guitars is back and Martin is pleading "Hold me tight". Again, another step in a very new direction for d:, and what a result it is! Quite frenetic in places, it's a muscular rock n roll mosnter of a song.

Every Little Thing showcases some great lyrics "If your world is without colour / I will carry you if you'll carry me". The lilting chorus sees Martin joined by none other than Mr Daniel Bedingfield, who is a friend of Jon Thatcher. After a verse and chorus of rhodes piano-led pastoral tectures, The second verse holds its breath and takes the plunge. More great lyrics here: "I've built my house where the ocean meets the land / It's time to live again, pull my dreams out of the sand". The bridge is powerful in addressing the listener "There is someone who can carry you", a cool-as-ice Stew Smee roll brings us into some strings and the chorus comes around again, triumphant and assured. A neat little run finishes the song and the album is over. It feels too soon!

So... what can I say? Some noticably praise-centred lyrics are great to see, sitting alongside some songs that would be quite at home on the radio. To see songs like "Majesty" and "Every Little Thing" on the same record seems like a bringing together of loose ends in a sense. Delirious? have made an album that is comepletely true to themselves because it's both a rock album and an album of praise songs. They have said about this project that they simply followed what they felt God was calling them to do- as they say in Feel It's Coming On they've 'come without a plan'. There are no chart singles for the moment (except Inside Outside in Germany, released by BMG) and perhaps not the same marketing push that Mezzamorphis or Audio Lessonover? got in the mainstream press. It shows that they have simply come and put what they have on the table without needing to worry if it's "too rock n roll for the church, or too Christian for the mainstream".

I think that in taking this approach, they've done themselves a big favour. It seems to me that the boys have been under a lot of pressure to perform to certain standards ("I hope there's an album with as good production as Mezzamorphis" / "Why aren't the lyrics as straight as Cutting Edge?"). It can't have been easy to be in this place of having to try and please eveyone, but they did as they were told by the only Voice worth listening to. And now, with World Service, I think that they could probably silence their critics from both camps. It may well be their best album yet. It's mature, it's more than sure of itself, it rocks, it floats and like every Delirious? release, it's full of passion and honesty.

It gets full marks in my book, with only one question to ask: Where are all the guitar solos?

Twenty or thirty years ago, if anyone had tried to imagine what worship would sound like in the 21st century, he or she probably would have been way off. What Delirious has brought to life with its 2000 release Glo is nothing less than a perfect depiction of worshipful expression in a new millennium, something no forecast could have predicted. Blending the most celebrated aspects of their previous records, Glo combines the electronic space-rock of Mezzamorphis with the euphoric worship anthems of King of Fools and Cutting Edge. The exotic songcraft and production together fashion this otherworldly journey, and crest with Martin Smith's divinely awestruck and heaven-desperate temperament. Although Delirious has been in the worshipping business since the early 1990s, each member has retained a focused passion that clearly is unfeigned and likely to cause an internal double take within those who attempt a causal listen. Even the floaty electronic textures of Glo's ballads carry an energy that will not let one drift from the path that the songs are taking. This extravagant response of worship to an infinite God is unmatched by any other worship artist. Delirious fans already will hold a high opinion of the band, but this disc exceeds even lofty expectations. --Israel Button

5 out of 5 stars One of the best worship albums from one of Woship music best bands........2007-04-27

If there is one thing that can be said about Delirious? it that they are probably one of the most consistent bands out there. I have listened to a lot of bands, Christian and non-Christian, and there are very few bands that I can say produce albums that I consistently enjoy. Delirious? is one of those rare bands that is always great. I was turned onto Delirious? by their World Service album, and thought that that was great, but as I have worked my way through their catalogue going backwards, I have found that each album has its own style, but is still uniquely Delirious?.

The thing that is so unique about this band is that they remain artistic without compromising their heart of worship. It is hard to find a band that is both creative and worshipful, and yet is that not the heart of worship? God is the father of creation and there for the creator of creativity. Should we not than worship in spirit and truth with creativity? That is why I had a hard time with worship music, usually seemed so bland and predictable, but that is not the case with Delirious?!

So, what is different about Glo? I have to say the great thing about Glo that is so different from World Service is the consistency here. Whereas World Service was mellow, and had some amazing songs, at times it lacked heart; sometimes it felt a little contrived. Glo on the other hand is consistent and each track flows into the next without seeming boring. Some elements of this album are carried over into Mission Bell, but Mission Bell is very raw(ie. Paint this Town Red), but yet very polished, and is a little bit different in its approach then Glo. Glo never feels raw, but has such organic feeling to it, just like you are there with the band live.

Some of the songs (God you are My God, Investigate, Awakening the Dawn, and Jesus' Blood) have sort of second part Jam Session which are titled "Glo In the Dark" parts 1,2,3, or 4. This is what makes the album so unique, it takes some of the tracks and then it just runs with them into a spontaneous worship session. That is what makes this album so different from the other worship albums I have heard. It reminds of the chapel services at my school. There is not a single weak track here, but the best tracks are undoubtedly the ones that create the jam/spontaneous worship sessions. My favorite of these is probably "Investigate" with "Fly Away" refrain.

With all of that said, if you are new to Delirious, this a great place to start. If you think that worship is always bland, boring, and unoriginal, then you should purchase this album, you will be presently surprised. I suggest that like me, you choose to listen to this album for a few hours straight while you are doing stuff around the house or doing homework. To fully appreciate an album it is always best to listen to it several times in one sitting.

Well, enjoy! God Bless ~Amy

5 out of 5 stars Praise and Worship as it should be..........2005-11-13

This isn't a new CD. Many of you who have it or see it on here understand that. But new doesn't necessarily mean better.

I admit, I haven't been the biggest fan of praise and worship music in my life. Hymns are ok, but not really that great most of the time. And though I adore Michael W. Smith and the Newsboys, they've overdone P&W. In spades.

So when I got this album (recently, in fact), I can't say that I was expecting a whole lot. Yeah, I've heard some stuff by Delirious? before, but hadn't listened to them that much.

This album though....It not only speaks to me, it speaks for me. It's one of those albums that gives you the words you've been looking for when you just haven't been able to find them.

The styles showcased on Glo are diverse an full....no half-baked attempts at mixing genres. Gregorian chants, violins, and rocking guitar riffs make it an enthralling listen.

The highlight of this album is the track "Jesus' Blood". Listen to it when you're alone, when you can think....I guarantee it will give you chills....Just like this whole album will.

5 out of 5 stars 5 Years Later.. and STILL the best worship album there is!.......2005-11-03

Of all the worship albums I've purchased before or after, THIS album is my absolute favorite. Inspired, passionate, and bold, each song has the feel of an "anthem" of worship. While the heavy guitar riffs may not be everyone's cup of tea, most people find the music to be powerful and beautifully overwhelming.

As in previous albums, Delirious has mastered the art of building each song to an incredible, worshipful climax. My personal favorites are:

1. God You Are My God (including its 2nd half.. 'Glo Part 1')
2. My Glorious
3. God's Romance
4. Everything
5. Jesus' Blood
6. who am I kidding.. they're ALL good.

If this album is not part of your modern worship collection, get it today!

4 out of 5 stars Very cool but different.......2004-10-01

I generally agree with the opinions others have posted. However, I am not quite such a die-hard Delirious fan. To be honest, the first time I heard the songs on the Glo album, I cringed. They were weird. I felt like I was listening to music from another planet.

However, since I bought the CD, I made myself listen to it a few more times. I quickly discovered that these are the kind of songs that grow on you. Each time I listen to these songs, I like them more.

In a phrase, this CD is hardcore creativity. Delirious expands the boundaries of modern rock, turning it into a worship experience that goes from sour to sweet and everything in between. Wow.

I still like their Mezzamorphis CD better, but this one is definitely worthy of at least 4 stars.

4 out of 5 stars "High Church" Modern Worship.......2003-08-03

I got this album in mid-2001, and sensed that it was something special, but it just never hit the right mood for me. Then in late summer 2002, when I was reading about the Orthodox and Catholic churches and church history, this album hit me in the right spot. I call this "high church modern worship."

The opening song sets the tone with a call to worship in Gregorian chant. Then the electric guitars begin and the sung words, "God, You are my God...." Other words from this grand opening song are, "I've seen Your power and Your glory; You've let me see You in the sanctuary...." What also makes this a good opening song is the phrase repeated by the background choral singers, "Come to the house of God." This is a song that just sets the tone for a time of awe-inspiring worship of the Powerful One. It's very classy music. After the main portion of the song, as Delirious? is known to do from time to time, they just continue to play, no words, just in continued worship, expressing their awe of God.

The second song features the "church people" singing "Holy is the Lord." Then for the next two songs, things quiet down, and these are the types of songs that Delirious? does that normally put me to sleep, but on this album, there is such a special sense of worship about it, I don't completely lose it, although more often than not I skip these tracks. Things waken up again on the fifth song, "My Glorious," which is a strong, grand, powerful statement of God's power: "God is bigger than the air I breathe...God will save the day, and all will say `My glorious [God]...'" We sing this song quite frequently at the church I go to (Ann Arbor Vineyard).

The next three songs are mellow again. Sometimes I listen to them, but I ALWAYS skip "Hang On To You," which is dreadful Barry Manilow type music. What were they thinking???

The third mellow song, "Intimate Stranger," has a quiet worshipful instrumental lingering at the end, and then suddenly, excitement bursts forth as the next track begins, "Awaken The Dawn." The chorus of this song goes, "You are the Lord, the Savior of all, God of creation we praise You." This is a very grand, majestic song. And something else special about this? An important instrument in it is bagpipes! Now when is the last time you heard bagpipes in a modern worship song? But it works. It's quite awesome, especially at the end of the song when they go into one of their extended worshipful instrumental meanderings again, and the bagpipes come to the forefront.

Like all Delirious? albums, this one is highly variable in quality--in my book anyway--with great fast songs and boring slow songs--but this is by far their best album ever. The good songs are so good, they make the whole album strong enough to put it at #5 on my list of Favorite CDs of 2002. This is an incredible worship experience. I have played this album a lot--and continue to play it--mostly just my favorite tracks, but those 4 songs I love are 27 minutes in length, enough for nearly any trip in the car around town. Some whole albums I have are not much longer than 27 minutes, so there's plenty for me to enjoy with just these four songs.

This album is such a Delirious? masterpiece that I doubted even they could follow up with anything as good. And in fact, their follow-up album, "Touch," is nothing of the experience that "Glo" is, although it does have a different focus so it's hard to compare directly.

When you are in the mood for high church worship using modern rock music, when you're in the mood for majestic, grand worship of God, this is the album to listen to.

In addition to its message of all-out, headlong surrender to the Gospel, Delirious's first widely accessible album also has just plain old good music. Often described as the "new U2," Delirious's resemblance is not hard to detect. Martin Smith's vocals, like Bono's, are far ranging and have a captivating, heart-wrenching emotionalism. The band as a whole has a kind of reckless innovation that consistently surges into stunning new territory. On King of Fools, for instance, the presence of a violin, a choir, and a Rickenbacker in one song is not an unusual combination, and the use of every kind of guitar in existence seems to be their specialty. Anyone would agree that Delirious is casting a mold of their own. Their hunger for God is strenuous and explores the depths of all struggles: the longing for more of Him and developing the patience to wait, the struggle for belief when "blood rolls down upon our land" and when love spills "down that wooden cross" ("White Ribbon Day"), and the struggle when the gifts He brings "rob [our] innocence" ("King or Cripple"). In every song, the tension eventually culminates in a contemplation of the Cross--as when in "All the Way" Smith erupts, "with you I'm washed as white as the snow and all crimson stain becomes as a shadow"--and the effect is only more stirring. Never has an album had so much rock and so much passion; listen and you'll be hungry for more. --Courtenay Kehn

5 out of 5 stars Amazing CD!.......2005-11-17

I actually heard this CD from a friend, and I loved the mellow melodies of its music. Very nice buy, and yes, they do sound a lot like U2, just on the calmer side.

3 out of 5 stars Great message, BUT..........2005-03-14

Don't get me wrong - I LOVE Christian rock. In fact, my very first introduction to the genre was a 2 disk set from Delirious. Since then, however, I've also been introduced to Audio Adrenaline, Third Day and DC Talk - among others. While this particular CD is masterfully mixed and the guys are all masters of their instruments, it just lacks the driving force behind the message I've come to appreciate from others. (I often tease my wife - who tends towards the more mellow in music - that she needs to start a support group called, "Headbangers for Christ.")
This is a decent album, (dating myself there), and the rhythmic backdrop of "August 30th" - while initially annoying to me - became strangely soothing and reassuring by the end. There is plenty of good to be said about this disc, but if you tend towards Third Day and AA, this one probably isn't for you.

4 out of 5 stars Who says Christians can't rock?.......2003-04-21

I became a Christian because of music. The people who showed love to me helped, but it was the music, all-encompassing and powerful that made me feel like something important existed beyond myself. Delirious's music was a big part of that.

King of Fools is centered around the complementary themes of doubt and faith, questioning God and redemption. One of the reasons I love this band so much is the fact that they aren't always "happy-clappy" like so many other other worship bands. Their songs are sincere, thoughtful, intelligent, and most of all, powerful. They address issues that anyone with a complex faith has struggled with, and found their faith stronger because of it.

For example, take their single, Deeper, one of my favorite worship songs, and one of the first I learned. It's alternatively questioning, enthusiastic, humble and completely in love with God. From the honesty of "I want to be meeker/But have you seen this old earth? and "I want to go deeper/But is it just a stupid whim?" to "And the wonder of it all is that I'm living just to fall/More in love with you," this song encompasses so many of the emotions inherent in the contemplative Christian life. (Or at least in mine.) Plus, it rocks. Likewise, "White Ribbon Day" expresses many of the same fears, and is particuarly relevant today (although it was released in 1998). I certainly couldn't help but think of Bush's lack of doubt about God's support for the War in Iraq listening to the lyrics "How can it be that God is love?/When blood rolls down upon our land." In all, the song is an insistant call for peace and love, following Jesus's message of loving one's neighbor.

As for music, anyone who thinks Christians are all uptight Republicans who can't rock hasn't listened to Delirious?. Beyond their punkish look, the band can rock with plenty of loud guitars and passionate singing. The music is generally straightforward rock, with a few lovely songs breaking the mold. For example, "What a Friend I've Found" starts as a sparcely arranged, prayer-like song and evolves into a gorgeous gospelly song backed by guitars.

In addition to all this, Delirious? prove you can write a terrific worship song without using the words "Jesus," "Lord" or "God" (in fact, they have several). If you want a Christian band that is just a great band in general, listen to Delirious? They're my favorite Christian band, and one of my favorites overall. As for King of Fools, it's pretty amazing for a debut album.

4 out of 5 stars As expected, a strong album by one of today's best!!.......2002-05-16

Having listened to Delirious for a few years, I expected this album to be a strong one, and I was not disappointed. Overall, about half of the songs are outstanding ("Sanctify", "History Maker", "Deeper", for example), while the rest are all pretty good. The band covers a wide range of musical styles (hard, pop, soft, etc), and they deliver well in each catergory. Although I must admit that I prefer the louder, upbeat songs on this album more so than the slower ones.

I have seen Delirious compared to U2 on numerous occasions, and never agreed with this match. Having listened to this album, I have reconsidered this comparison and think that it does warrant consideration. Some of the songs have a U2 quality, except that Delirious is much more obvious about their faith.

I definitely recommend this album to any CCM fan who does not already own it, especially if you are a Delirious fan. If you are new to CCM, Delirious is a great band to use as a starting point. Musically they are very talented, and lyrically they are powerful.

Leaders of the modern transatlantic worship movement, Delirious seem to reinvent themselves with each release. The worship-oriented Glo captured fans and critics alike in 2000 with its earnest appeal of today's rock for tomorrow's church. With Touch, Delirious step ahead into uncharted musical territory with a release of depth and passion. But what other ground is there for true pioneers like Delirious? From the charismatic title track to the melancholy closing of "Stealing Time," the band continues its honest exploration of faith, hope, and love. In between, Delirious range from Pink Floyd-like rock ("Fire") to art rock ("Rollercoaster") to pure melodious pop ("Take Me Away"). Producer Chuck Zwicky promotes an almost live feel, keying off the band's energy while casing it in an organic wrapper. When you're truly one of a kind, the artistic danger is always self-plagiarism. While Delirious dance close around the edges of this chasm, they never quite fall in, leaving you with that familiar, gnawing feeling that you've heard it before--somewhere. Perhaps that is the brilliance that defines the band and keeps these UK lads churning out music of majesty. --Michael Lyttle

4 out of 5 stars one for the loyalists.......2007-07-24

Delirious? sprang on the scene as a new-born Great Band. They were a breath of fresh air for Christian listeners, not least because they seemed as surprised by their fame as we did.

TOUCH is not a great cd. It's a very, very good album produced by a band whose sound we've grown accustomed to. Maybe a little too accustomed.

But not too much. 'Angel in Disguise' sings like a very fine love song:

'Wake me up, shake me up
Break me up
Then put me back together
Take my crown. Let me drown
Bring me round
Then stay with me forever
I've never known love like this
Maybe you're an angel in disguise

Call my name
Somebody take me away
Rescue me completely
No more shame
Somebody take it away
Rescue me

Wake me up, take me up
Feel the heat
It's closer now than ever
Secrets hide in the sand
Take these bones
And put me back together
Oh, oh, you're killing me with just one kiss
Maybe I'm an angel in your eyes

If this is a man discovering faithful love to one woman, it's a love song almost on the level of some of Sting's best writing. Then again, it may be a song about divine love. Then it's not so compelling. That's the trouble with 'crossover' albums. You can never tell for sure.

Still, track 8's 'Take Me Away' seems to encourage the man-woman love song intepretation, for it's unambiguously just that and demonstrates that the band has this genre in its repertoire. In fact, this one is worthy of alignment with the biblical 'Song of Solomon':

I'm in love with a girl.
Everybody seems to know.
I'll sing it loud.
Sing it cos' I'm feeling proud of
Love. Oh yeah this is love.

You take me away to another place.
You show me a way to a higher grace.
You take me away to another place.
I'm seeing it all with a happy face.

She can walk on the waves,
Crashing through my own desire.
Swing and sway.
Dance until my demons fly away.
This is love. This love.

The sheer boy-ish exuberance of this tune fails to hide entirely the redemptive splash of the last verse. Something important is under recovery and Delirioius? wants to *sing* about it.

So why the ambivalent tone of my review? I think it comes down to this: you have to *work* at this album to squeeze the juice out of it. You've got to pay attention. That's hardly a fault, just a warning that what sometimes falls flat as casual listening is a diamond in the rough for those who know how to polish.

4 out of 5 stars Would be 5 stars if this was Audio Lessonover and not Touch.......2005-11-09

I loved this album, and musically it is one of their strongest. It does not contain the pop/rock anthems of old, but relies more on songwriting. The album starts out with "Touch," a good catchy song that has a nice melody. It is probably the most catchy, because it was not written for this album, it was released on the Deeper EP in England around 1999. So it is not really a new cut. The strengths on the American "Touch" I'd have to say would be "Touch," "Love is a Compass," "Fire," "Alien," "Rollercoaster," and "Stealing Time." The song Alien is probably the most impressive song musically on the whole alubm because they experiment with guitar sounds successfully attaining the atmosphere that they want. This is not a worship album though, it was not intended to be, nor should it be looked that way. This was an album attempting to release possible frustrations, and showing emotions that were unable to be displayed on the other albums. And musically it was a time of release also, hence the British name "Audio LessonOVER." Unfortunately the British version I believe is a lot better and a stronger album. "Love is a Compass" possesses more of a Brit rock feel to it, and doesn't sound like the usual American "soft song." Arguably the strongest tracks were taken off for the American album, "There is an Angel," and "Bicycle Gasoline" were amazing tracks taken off. This album is a great cnoice and it was enjoyed by reviewers. Heck Q Magazine, the British Rolling Stone who are known for being less favorable of Christian rock enjoyed this album, while they completely tore apart the new Switchfoot album. That's just something to think about. Touch is a great album, and a strong release for this band.

5 out of 5 stars Great British Rock.......2005-02-22

I got this album a week ago and really liked it. As far rock albums go it doesn't get much better than this. I was suprised that a lot of people were so harsh on it with their reviews but as I began to read what they wrote it started to make sense to me. Most the people who complained about this album mentioned something about its spiritual content. I guess it makes since that since Delirious is a band that made a solid reputation based on worship music that this album would upset a lot of it's fans, not that it is by any means close to a secular album despite what some people have said. I can safely say if your looking for a truely religious work that you probably want to check out Glo, World Service, or even King of Fools but as far as rock albums go this is on par with anything Delirious has ever done and better than most of it. A good comaprsion would for those who aren't are familiar with Delirous be fellow british rockers U2, or the White Stripes odds are if you have their albums and like the highly sythensized abstract music they put out this is right up your alley if not you probably should check out something else. I would recommend either of Third Day's or News Boy's worship albums if thats what your looking for.

3 out of 5 stars delirious in the mainstream.......2003-09-30

Unfortunately, most of the bad reviews have been because people don't understand the type of delirious that put this album out. Though not up to speed with King of Fools and Glo, Touch is still very addicting. The sound is much different than Glo and King of Fools and more along the lines of Mezzamorphis, which has more of a UK mainstream sound. The limited edition cd package makes the purchase all the more worth it, with great live performances and a bonus live performance of "There is a Light" which made me shed a tear the first time I heard it. So, if you are looking for the praise music delirious usually puts out, this isn't your cup of tea. But if you are a diehard delirious addict such as myself, don't even hesitate(you probably already have it, tho.)

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing........2003-03-25

I was disappointed with this record. I guess at some point the standard's got to fall, but the last two have been so good, they have stayed fresh and gone new places when I wasn't sure there were new places to go... But this one falls apart. It bows to radio like King of Fools did, but King of Fools had Deeper and Sanctify and King or Cripple and What a Friend I've Found... enough quality to forgive its overall blase sound. This record has two or three decent songs, no sparklers, and the rest is just boring. I guess that makes it their worst.

4 out of 5 stars the weak made strong.......2007-01-01

In 1995 I sat at a dinner table in Oxford and chatted with the young American at my side. He was the manager of a new band called 'Delirious?', he explained. They were going to be the next big thing, perhaps the next U2. He earnestly implored me to watch for them, I would not be disappointed.

The band's name did not seem promising and the guy clearly had an interest in promoting his project. I didn't take him too seriously.

A decade later and with many Delirious cds on my shelf, I smile to recall this memory.

CUTTING EDGE was in fact the first name of the band. To appreciate this CD, you've got to enter the narrative of the insert and appreciate the band as a spiritual and musical phenomenon that seemed in the mid-90s as much a surprise to the musicians, managers, and hangers-on as anyone else. The United Kingdom is often referred to these days as 'post-Christian', a dismissive adjective that is overstated but, sadly, contains much more truth than one could wish.

The Delirious? phenomenon is, perhaps as much as anything else, audible testimony to the fact that the Lord does not easily abandon a nation. Dry bones are unpromising material, the prophet Ezekiel would concede, but when breathed upon by the Lord's spirit are capable of becoming a mighty army.

Indeed.

Such rhetoric, with its palpable biblical allusiveness, is part and parcel of the Delirious? package.

Before anything else, these tracks give us worship songs. Those looking for highly-produced, densely-packed, expertly-scored music like that of, say, Steven Curtis Chapman, are likely to walk away from this double-cd package disappointed and a bit glazed over.

Delirious? was and is a work in progress. Classic, simple rock progressions ('Singer's Song) give way to acoustic reflectiveness ('Lord, You Have My Heart'). Yet one never loses the sense that Delirious? is in some essential sense a band up on a stage. Leading worship. The recording studio came later and, one might sense, only half welcomed.

This reviewer lived for many years in Costa Rica, where in our church we often sang Delirious? songs in Spanish. Presumably, few of us knew the source.

Although much of Delirous?' output has not weathered as well as I had hoped, I am still deeply moved--as I was upon first hearings some years back--by the band's tempered, chastened side, a tonality that seems to move them consistently towards the Cross of Christ as their ground zero. This part of their artistic bandwidth is best appreciated via 'The Prophet Song' and others that I'll excerpt below:

'The Prophet Song':

'I hear the words of the prophets
I love to sing with the angels
I love to hear children praying
I love to see weak made strong
But most of all I love to hear the voice of God'.

With these lyrics, Martin's voice reminds us of what is central to our shared live of faith and what is, if not peripheral, then at least not indispensable.

Then one wonders about the biography behind a song that I have sung alone in tears:

'Find me in the river
Find me on my knees
I've walked against the water
Now I'm waiting, if you please

We've longed to see the roses
But never felt the thorns
And brought our pretty crowns
But never paid me the price ...

We didn't count on suffering
We didn't count on pain
But if the blessing's in the valley
Then in the river I will wait'

This pensive, profoundly grown-up offering seems to co-exist effortlessly beside the raucous and grin-making 'I Found Jesus!'. Indeed, it is the very fact that the men of Delirious? have chosen to grow up in front of us and out loud that accounts for a large portion of the reservoir of affection that one feels for them as human beings and appreciation for the music they have so generously handed over to all who choose to listen.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best Christian Bands.......2005-09-13

I had listened to more current Delirious music and liked it. My wife had ordered this CD and gave it to my daughter. It sat around for awhile. She pulled it out the other day, started playing it and I went, "I didn't know we had this, this is great stuff!" When Delirious was a young band, (Known as "Cutting Edge" back then), they were more centered on worship type of music. Not as heavy on the metal, more string guitar stuff, but very good. It has some of their all time classics, "I could sing of Your love forever" and "Did you hear the mountains tremble?" Many others you can sing to in the car and worship Jesus. I highly, highly recommend this CD!

5 out of 5 stars this is what it's about.......2002-03-31

Not much to say, except that this is an album to get. It will have some songs that are familiar to most, and many that aren't. But that's the beauty of it. Martin Smith writes well, and expresses the feelings of his heart. He loves God, and desires nothing but to chase after Him. Such a yearning is what worship is about.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Modern Christian Worship Band.......2001-05-08

Simply put, this album is a great example of a modern worship band's ability to make great music. I have spent several years searching for Christian bands that can play music that appeals to me. Raised on alternative rock music, for years I considered Christian music weak. Delirious is one of the bands that has changed my mind.

I really like this album because it has so many strong songs, and a wide range of music from the band. I do not like every single song on both discs, but I am very impressed with the overall album. Songs like "I found Jesus", "The Happy Song", "I Could Sing of Your Love Forever", and "What is this thing called love?" really opened my eyes about modern Christian music.

I highly recommend this album to any Deliriuous fan, or anyone looking for a Christian band that is making great music these days. If you have never bought a Christian album before, take a chance with this one. It just may surprise you.

5 out of 5 stars Passionate Worship.......2001-05-04

The Cutting Edge CD's represent probably the best worship music produced by Delirious right at the beginning of their life as a band. The CD has joyous songs of celebration like the Happy Song, I've Found Jesus and Louder than the Radio as well as intense songs like Obsession. The songs on these CDs are packed with energy and emotion. One of the best CD sets I've ever bought.

5 out of 5 stars Christian music setting the standards.......2003-03-28

Being from Britain, it goes to say that without a doubt, Delirious are missing the praise they deserve. Here they are known as a Christian band full stop, and unfortunatly that seem to have distracted people from the great songs they are plugging.
Admittedly, if you are not a Christian, then this is perhaps not the best Delirious CD to purchase. Recent albums have diverged slightly, covering broader areas of music rather than just traditional worship. It features alot of their earlier material, which is very much focussed on praise to God, so some might find it a bit 'heavy', fair enough if religion isn't your 'cup of tea'.
But, nevertheless this is a great album. It features their best work and it is likely that anyone could relate to the lyrics in some way or another. It also highlights Martin Smith's brilliant skills as both a performer and a songwriter. I have stayed with the opinion for a while that if I could write songs as good, I would die a happy person.

Highlights for me on the album are 'Sanctify', 'Jesus Blood', 'Thank You For Saving Me', 'Shout To The North' and 'History Maker'. The music is deep in places, heavy in others, but this fails to distract from the lyrics. Take time and listen to the music AND lyrics as a whole instead of two separate components and you'll find the prize very rewarding.

Even though Hillsong brings out a live worship album every year I was overjoyed to hear that they were bringing out a live album of their annual conference. The conference is held in the Sydney Superdome with over 20,000 so it makes for an electrifying atmostphere. This is their first album joint with none other but Delirious and this is Delirious' first live album in a while. Even though the groups don't perform any new songs, they make them sound like new for this concert, and will make you fall in love with them again. The song list goes like this:

1. Everyday
I always loved this song but got sick of it when they did it the same way on the youth album. This is my favorite version because it is the version with most guitars. This song does not end boringly. They go crazy on the bridge, I love it.

2. Free
If you did not have the song list you would never guess this would be free when you first hear it start. They have totally changed the intro. I love the new edgy intro, but this song is on all of their most current albums and my favorite version of this song is on Hope.

3. I Give You My Heart
This song has not been heard since 94' or something and is a classic. This version is the best though. Holly Dawson sings lead and her voice is gorgeous. They have also added a never before heard bridge and it's beautiful.

4. Worthy Is the Lamb
This is another well known worship anthem from Hillsong. Miriam sang it first, but Darlene wrote it and sings it on this album. It sounds different but good, and it's really hard to compare the two versions. A gorgeous choir part has been added. I only wish the chorus had been sung more. Still this is amazing.

5. I Could Sing of Your Love Forever/God's Romance
This song is written by Delirious but Darlene and Hillsong perform it. Martin Smith sings a verse later on. I love how Hillsong does "I Could Sing" it is full and majestic sounding. They don't really sing "God's Romance" they just sing the bridge and while it is gorgeous, I wish they had sung the whole song.

6. King of Majesty
This is the 4th version of this song but doesn't sound much different from the original. My favorites are still the ones from Blessed and Shout God's Fame from London.

7. Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble?
Finally Delirious comes in. This is one of my favorites and they do it best here. While Delirious' part of the concert has a little more of a "show" feel you can tell they are really worshipping God with their songs. I also love how they have kept in Martin's diolouge.

8. Rain Down
It doesn't sound much different from the studio version but the crowd singing along makes it better.

9. Majesty (Here I Am)
I don't have all of the Delirious records but this song is beautiful. One of their best.

10. What a Friend I've Found
This song is beautiful and Darlene comes in on the second verse and lets it fly. I love how these two sing it better then any other version. I sometimes skip to this song.

11. History Maker
This is honestly not my favorite version of this song. I think my church on any given Sunday has sung it better but I love what Martin says throughout the song and the whole album ends with a huge scream on praise!

Well, you can probably tell I am a bigger Hillsong fan then a Delirious fan but this is one of their best albums between them both. If you want to hear life changing, eletrifying worship, get this album today!

5 out of 5 stars Familiar, Uplifting, God-Centered Worship Music.......2007-06-22

This CD is full of songs that are familiar and contemporary but avoids the trap of selecting songs that are "me focused" that glorify God only for what He does for us. The songs are easy to sing along with, and are beautifully performed by the various artists. The different tempos, styles and sounds of the songs in lyric, voice and instruments give this collection a nice variety that will appeal to a broad cross section of preferences. This has become one of my favorite albums, and I'm usually a hymns-only kind of girl!
