4 out of 5 stars All You Need Is A Beer And A Mic (Rating; 9 out of 10- -4.5 stars).......2007-04-09

I think I already reviewed this album as one of my first reviews, but felt compelled to review it again. To me, the west coast rap group Tha Alkoholiks is one of the best from the 90's. Their third album "Likwidation" is possibly their best album throughout their whole career (maybe "Coast II Coast" is their best). If you're not familiar with the type of rhymes styles that they use, the name "Tha Alkholiks" basically says it all. Their rhymes are about guzzling down drinks and rocking mics on stage. Hell, they've been doing it since their first album 21 & Over back in 1993. This time, on this album, they are enjoying a little fan fare of being well known.

There are many bumping songs here. One of them is the title track "Likwidation", a song that really leads off the album. Unique rhyme styles really show throughout this album. "Hip Hop Drunkies" featuring the late ODB is possibly the best song on this album, espically when Ol Dirty does an impression of RZA. Bumping songs like "Aw ****" and "Captain Hook", a song about bitting rappers to get airplay really shows off their veratile skills. The song "All Night" reminds me of when a group is on stage and the audience is part of the show, and enjoying the music. I believed that is why people love Tha Alkoholiks so much.

Some other outstanding songs is "Killin' It" when extended member of the Likwit Family, Xzibit drops a nice verse. King T appears with J-Ro on the song "Funny Style" that rides with a soft sounding party beat. "Off The Wall" is another party song with Keith Murray.

Only flaws on this album is that "Feel The Real" is pretty forgettable lyric and production wise. And Phil Da Agony's verse is the only weak guest appearance on "Rockin' With The Best" I can think of in this album. Otherwise, this album is excellent. This is what I call hip hop with creativity with head nodding beats and rocking lyrics. Chances are that reveier "Moe" doesn't listen to quality hip hop, so he would knock this album. This is one of the best and probably underrated albums from the west. I recommend that you add this to your collection. Peace!

5 out of 5 stars the real sh#t.......2005-06-16

If anyone knows about what hip hop was like when it started and how it is to flow battles on stage, graf and beat box. You wouldn't give this a bad rating. Otherwise, listen to your new sh#t. This album is tight all the way through. They flow perfectly together and their style had developed up to here. The production is tight and theres a lot of tracks. The rhymes are funny and serious at the same time, this is more about 'fun' like real hip hop was about and this carried on. I did prefer '21 & under', but this is still tight and they didn't sell out like some other atists would by the 2nd album. But i didn't really like the album after this though. If you like and know what real hip hop is and don't have this, make sure you get it!! Later!

4 out of 5 stars All you need is a beer and a mic (4.5 stars).......2006-02-05

This CD is quite possibly the best CD comming from the Likwit fam. The third CD from Tash, J-Ro and E-Swift's "Likwidaton" was slept on in 1997, but when hearing it, I believed it was an album that needs to be in every person's library who likes mic rocking beats and dope ass lyrics for you ear drums.

Songs like Likwidation and Hip Hop Drunkies (which featues the late Ol' Dirty Bastard), and All Night will damn sure rock the party and highly proves that Tha Alkaholiks are at the high point of their career.

Then you have songs that are full of dope lyrics such as Killin' It (featuring Xzibit)and Contents Unda Pressure that proves that not only they can rock the party, but the still obtain the skills that carried over from Coast II Coast.

Then the guest appearances on this were kinda odd, because all Nas and LL Cool J talk about is what they drink at the bar. Nothing really wrong with that, it's just kinda awkward. Keith Murray helps on the song "Off The Wall." Then theres the Likwit family doing their thing (King T and The Lootpack). One hell of a CD made by this group, who were at the top of their game at the time.

4 out of 5 stars Keg-stand-classic.......2005-04-08

Perfect hommage to OE and Phillies.

Its just classic. This was the back-up CD for after the girls were done complaining to get us to play some Monica or Brandy, and they were finally tipsy, then this CD came on.

Great lyrical performances from the West. On this album, and all their albums, the Liks rapped like they loved to do it. They were having fun doin it. And you can hear it through the speakers. Perfect party music. Its a little dated now, but full of great samples for today's DJs/producers.

A great example of what Hip Hop is supposed to be.

5 out of 5 stars CLASSIC!!.......2004-07-13

This album is a hip hop classic!!! definately slept on by many. It's an album that you can listen to from front to back without skipping tracks..Even the skits are worth listening to.

5 out of 5 stars classic party album.......2004-02-28

I gave this album a perfect score because I felt that it had to be judged within its genre: party music, and in that sense it really is perfect. This isn't "conscious" or political hip-hop, but the beats are ridiculously hot, the lyrics are fun and the emcees mesh perfectly. As a party album this is right up there with some of Redman's best work (Tash in particular has a braggadocious style reminiscent of Redman, and they definitely do here for the 40 what Reggie Noble did for the blunt). This represents some of the best that the West Coast has to offer, and it is the perfect album to crack a 40 to.

5 out of 5 stars The Liks bring the fun back into hip-hop..........2002-06-21

Hip-hop has turned into a thugged-out gangsta party. Seemingly each new rapper coming out tries to outdue the next with gansta tales (which most fans don't believe anyways). The Liks are a breath of fresh air to the rap genre as they are just about having fun. The three emcess, J-Ro, Tash, and E-Swift share the mic, and their chemistry is undeniable. Obviously from the title of their name The Alkaholiks talk a lot about alcohol, but their album is not a promotion for it. They are just 3 guys having fun on the mic and are not afraid to admit they like to party. It's this type of freeness to their music that makes it so enjoyable to listen to. They can make party songs or flat out kick some of the funniest raps you've ever heard without sacrificing any credibility or selling out like other rappers.
This album isn't out to change the game or become the next instant classic like an "Illmatic". But it deserves respect because its an enjoyable album to listen to anytime you pop it in you CD player.
Xzibit is a guest on "Killin' It" and he does just that. Keith Murray's verse on "Off the Wall" was a little disappointing as everyone expects more from the lyrical lexicon. "Hip Hop Drunkies" with Ol' Dirty is hilarious and definitely a high point of the album. "Captain Hook" is a very creative song as the Liks take you on a story as they search for an emcee who is biting everyone's style: from E-40's verbage, Bone's style, to WC's flow, they go on a cross-country search looking for this fake emcee as he continually keeps biting other artists. The Alkaholics are very underrated lyricists and throughout this album you'll find some extremely funny verses that these guys concoct. Check this one out if you want something new to listen to, or are just tired of how hardcore every rapper tries to be today.
