Failed Ideas.......2004-12-09
Maureen McGovern is a national treasure. Her Naughty Baby CD to me is the 2nd coming of Christ. By comparison Out of this World is quite disappointing. Mostly either Harold Arlen or MM's uninspiring interpretations and/or Renzi's arrangements don't seem to suit MM on this CD. The drums and percusion are sometimes schlocky. The screechy sax is always terrible. Also not working for me are the electric keyboard/synthesizer, the electric guitar and the cello. Even Renzi's piano playing is sometimes a let down. Jay Leonhart's great bass work seems to be the only thing that you can depend on here. Did MM do this to herself or is Renzi mainly responsible? Spend your money instead on: Naughty Baby, The Music Never Ends, The Pleasure of his Company and Christmas With MM. All wonderful music.
Simply Exquisite.......2003-12-01
I'd forgotten what a beautiful, supple vocal instrument McGovern has. Here, she sings blues- and jazz-flavored tunes, torchy ballads, and more--all Harold Arlen--including "It's Only a Paper Moon," "Over the Rainbow," "Let's Take a Walk Around the Block," "The Man That Got Away" and "Come Rain or Come Shine." Her "Optimistic Voices" (from The Wizard of Oz) is worth the price of the entire CD. It is simply exquisite, like a fine jewel, polished and gleaming with feeling.

Canadian Bagpipes American Brass.......2003-11-11
I recently ordered and have just received the above mentioned album.
THANK YOU........
I ordered it just to have a copy of "Amazing Grace" on bagpipes, but after listening to the album, I am completely blown away. It is perhaps the greatest piece of music I now own. Depending on the song, I can get lifted up, mellowed out, or layed back, again THANK YOU, for having this album. I'm a very satisfied customer.
Not a Great CD.......2003-11-07
This CD was originally longer with more titles. It seems the Altissimo! people after they acquired it from the Canadian Scottish cut out several titles and reduced the overall quality of the CD. Because of this and various other technical factors I would not recommend this CD at this inflated price.

Forerunner to Sky.......2006-02-23
This CD is really a compilation of the 3 "experimental" albums John Williams did before his venture with the Prog Rock group Sky. So if you are a classical purist then you might not like this CD. Otherwise, it's a rare combination of songs from "Changes", "The Height Below", and "Travelling" - the 3 albums that eventually led to Sky. Also, a few songs from his work with Cleo Laine are thrown in.
The overall style of this CD is like a soundtrack (such as the music from "The Deer Hunter"). But it still features great guitar work as well (several from Bach). Williams' playing is clean and crisp - whether he is playing a straight classical piece or doing an accompanyment. You will see he is accomplished in both roles with this CD. Classical purists might consider this "light weight" but the rest of us call it accessable and interesting.

televizzle man, televizzle!.......2003-12-11
this is a great album. pretty much enjoyed every track. very different to how i thought it was going to be, but still great. i highly recommend this record.
It's better than i excpected........2003-07-26
The swingin' utters continue to write the good material and they convince me more everytime that they can do no wrong though a couple of the tracks near to the start of record slip in standard to the rest, the album however redeems itself as it approaches more toward the end. The stand out tracks on deadflowers, bottles, bluegrass and bones are glad, if you want me to and lampshade infact the only way i can really give a justified review for this album is by giving each track a rating out of 5.
1. No pariah 5/5
2. Glad 5/5
3. Hopless vows 1/5
4. Deadflowers, bottles, bluegrass, and bones 2/5
5. All that i can give 5/5
6. Sign in a window 4/5
7. Dont ask why 4/5
8. Lampshade 5/5
9. Letters to yourself 3/5
10. Heaven at seventeen 5/5
11. Leaves of fate 5/5
12. If you want me to 5/5
13. Elation 4/5
14. Poor me 5/5
15. My closed mind 4.5/5
16. Looking for something to follow 5/5
17. Shadows and lies 5/5
So there you have it most tracks are rated 5/5 because not much else could have been added to make those tracks any better i would recommened the self titled one 5 lessons learned and the streets of san fransisco before you purchase this though, the utters have a great discography and you you cant name one bad album that they have made in this way they are similar to another great band called the Tossers (similar genre) and they outshine the Dropkick Murphys and the Dropkicks arent a bad band in the slightest so get this if you already own the aforementioned albums or if you're a lucid person looking for one of the more pre-eminent punk albums in the genre. It would be good for the utters to release some live material and more acoustics on there next album but you cant have it all right?, the only real downfall on this album however are the tracks Hopeless vows and dead flowers, bottles, bluegrass and bones both of which dont seem like the swingin' Utters are playing them as the songs sound a bit rushed as though they where just fill ins to a great album which im sure they where not but thats the general impression that you get, the description of this album on FAT was that the Swingin' utters come out with some new sounding better in someways street punk and i could'nt agree more, it's a breath of fresh air this album really as though there are still the odd good few punk bands about it's hard to escape this current hype thing at the moment and though i have nothing against them lets face it they are very poor bands so well done to the Utters again and im rambling on and on now.
It's musical diversity, and it's all good.......2003-04-13
I've been listening to the Utters for a while now, and if I've learned anything from them, it's that they can successfully mix folk and punk on the same cd. Needless to say, I was pumped to hear that they were coming out with a new album: I wanted to see what kind of new stuff they could come up with. Well, I'm pleased to say that they did a damn good job with this album. It's got everything - fast punk music ('glad'), slower acoustic stuff ('if you want me to') and even some piano (lampshade). Yet with all this musical diversity, they still manage to maintain deep, high quality lyrics throughout this album.
If you're a fan of the the Utters already, then you'll be pleased with this CD. If you've never heard them before, but are a fan of the genre, then I encourage you to check this CD out. It's got so many different styles that you'll most likely find a song you'll really enjoy.
wow, staggeringly good, maybe the best yet.......2003-03-12
I am increasingly convinced this band can do no wrong. In my opinion, they've never had a bad album. And the funny thing is that I wasn't sure where they'd go from the last (self-titled) effort, which was probably as dark/hard as anything they had done since Streets Of SF. Well, if the S/T album was an extension of the darker, inward-looking stuff from Five Lessons Learned, then this one is an improvement upon the lighter, more melodic fare that made Juvenile Product such a success. Why is it better than Juvenile? Simply put: diversity. They display more styles and more tempo changes on this than the fairly static approach of Juvenile (which is no fault, it's a great album.) They change gears than most any "street-punk" band, which is why they transcend petty terms like street-punk and why they succeed as a great band and not merely a great genre band. Surprisingly the Filthy Thieving Bastards type material is kept to a minimum (perhaps they got it out of their system with that full-length) but that celtic flavor is still apparent, so don't worry. And you just can't beat 17 songs for bang-for-yer-buck.
I'm almost frightened to make any more statements like "this might be their London Calling" which i did for their last effort, because they just might go and one-up themselves like they did this time. And what's better than London Calling? Not much, if anything. I think this is better than the self-titled, and i'm leaning towards labelling it their best. It's great when a band can age without showing any signs of it. They've set the bar mighty high, but they've also shown no signs of slowing down. Here's to 12 more years.
C'mon guys; don't fizzle out!.......2003-03-12
The Swingin Utters were one of my favorite bands at one time. After their disappointing self-titled album, however, I honestly didn't expect much from this disc. This album isn't awful by any means, but compared to 'Streets of San Francisco' and 'Juvenile Product...', this record simply crumbles. I hate to sound like one of those annoying music snobs who claim that only a band's early work is worth listening to, but the songs sound rushed, and this whole Celtic-infused punk thing is getting pretty stale. There are some good tracks on here, however. "Glad" is absolutely phenomenal, especially the backing vocals, but for the most part, I just can't get into this album. Just because you are on Fat Wreck Chords doesn't mean you have to sound like you are.

A must have classic! .......2006-09-14
I knew this guy in high school who was related to the drummer and he gave me a tape called DEATH RIDES A DEAD HORSE (which is now the bonus on the first album re-release) and i was blown away! Then there is the classic PEACEFUL DEATH. But there are 2 albums that only the hard core fans know about and that's FEED ME (this one has chiggers on it, really cool song!) and the other album is called BOIL(ING) (this one has my dog the prophet & reach around) If you can git your hands on either one of them, consider yourself lucky!

DH hailed from Texas..and were a part of the infamous ''texas metal underground''
This has so many different type's of music on it that it hurt's yer head!! also another band panhorder wanted to be like!!
If you are looking for obscure, original, ripped off..etc 90's AMERICAN METAL then this is a great start..not perfect but still an amazing album!!!
Best song??...TURN!!!!! this song is at the end of the acid bath dvd as well, incase you didnt notcie!!
Deadhorse "Peaceful Death and Pretty Flowers".......2005-10-03
The disc arrived on time and in good conditon, But, I drop a star because I would have liked Mike Haaga (former guitarist for Dead Horse) to have included more DH material.

KILLER Debut Album!.......2004-10-13
A year or so ago, I got into the L.A.-based band Killingbird, for who Skyla Talon plays guitar. I loved both of their albums, which I thought of as gritty glam rock combined with classic punk rock. It sounded and felt so dirty and raw, so of course I wanted to check out Skyla's debut album. Needless to say, I was impressed and even blown away at the sheer power of this CD. From the opening track "American Ending", I felt like my eardrums were going to explode. Of course, I listen to my music turned up to 11! So if that happens, it's all my fault. My favorite tracks on the album are "American Ending", "Out Of Love (With Dead Roses)", "A Dead Valentine", and "Gone Before The Day". "Gone Before The Day" is probably my favorite track on the album, and if you've never heard Killingbird's music, I think this song resembles Killingbird's signature sound. Skyla's voice is powerful and I think it resembles a cross between Killingbird's lead singer, Christian, and early Robby Takac (of Goo Goo Dolls fame). It's an all-around killer album with powerful tracks like those mentioned, but at the same time, Skyla comes down a little bit in songs like "Stared At The Sun" and "In The Shadows", so for a debut album, I definitely give this CD five well-deserved stars. Listen to the sample tracks and judge for yourself! If you're into his music, definitely check out Killingbird, who Kerrang describes as "ripping pieces of flesh from the carcass of glam-metal and sewing them into the pockmarked, pustulating carcass of classic punk rock". SKYLA ROCKS!
