Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Real Flava.......2005-09-26

WHAT!!!!!!!!???????? This cd is being offered new for as little as $3.00? This collection is a true classic from 1993 with tracks that still bump 'til this day. The title track is one of the greatest posse cuts of all time featuring Phife Dawg of A Tribe called Quest, Blacksheep, Freddie Foxxx, D-Nice, Naughty By Nature, Fu-Shnickens as well as other popular artists. The introduction of Zhane was made here with "Hey Mr. DJ" and D-Nice drops one of his best songs on this album.

You also got Apache, Queen latifah (Co-C.E.O. of Flava unit), Benzino (During his Almighty R.S.O. days), The Rotten Rascals (a group which features Kay-Gee's younger brother), Latee, Nikki D., and lots more.

This compilation is a forgotten gem that should be put in the collections of hip hop classics and not disregarded as dump bin fodder. So if you want some real classic hip hop flava- buy this cd while the price is as low as it is before these sellers figure out what they have. PEACE

the reason kool keith was mad about it was cus he didnt get paid, there is a new basment tape out and the cover looks pretty official to me, the stuff on there basment tapes is some of there best! dont deny yourself this music.

If you're a Kool Keith fan, don't buy this! It's not legit! Just a stupid Ced Gee basement tape...

              1 out of 5 stars Don't buy this album!.......2003-03-26

Show some respect for the legend Kool Keith, don't buy this album. It's a collection of practice runs and things that were never supposed to see the light of day. Ced Gee released this himself ...
It was this type of perpetrating that prompted Keith and Tim Dog to hit the studio again and release an album simply titled "ULTRA-Big Time." You should buy that one instead and peep the original "Keep it Real," a song targeting Ced Gee and advising fans not to buy his 'basement tapes.'
Fun Fact; The cover of this album is a strange collage of obscure pictures put together in photoshop. Keith flipped when he saw a face on this album cover that he didn't even recognize. The guy was just as surprised to see his face on the album! Show Keith and Tim Diggity some love and buy the "Ultra" album instead. This is an illegitemate album. Keith is a perfectionist and he obviously isn't proud of this material. Don't buy it. ...

4 out of 5 stars SPACED-OUT HUMOR ALMOST AT ITS BEST. AN UNDERRATED THRILLER........1999-04-23

"NEW YORK WHAT IS FUNKY" IS A BETTER SET THAN THEIR A&R FORCE TO DESTROY THE GROUP LP,NOW DEFUNCT "FUNK YOUR HEAD UP",AS UNDERGROUND AS THEY WOULD LIKE TO STAY,THE IMMACCULATE FLOWS OF THESE MC'S ARE TOO MUCH TO LEAVE ALONE. KOOL KEITH'S SOLO JOINTS WINS AGAIN,BUT NOTHING MAKE ULTRAMAGNETIC MORE SPACED OUT LYRICALLY THAN THE SLAMMIN' PRODUCTION BY CED-GEE. THIS IS BEYOND "FUNKY".

              Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars OK album from the old school producer.......2000-03-07

This album isn't terribly good but it has it's redeeming moments. The production is of mixed quality. A problem which seems to haunt many of the tracks are some very silly choruses that drag otherwise good tracks down. The CD has appearances by some notable mc's such as Grandmaster Caz, Spoonie Gee, Funkmaster Wizard Wiz and the, to me at least, largely unheard of MC New York. The latter appears on "Good Morning Mr. Phelps" and this CD's best track "I am New York". Especially on this track he displays rhyming skills with a funky delivery and it's also the best beat on this release. Furthermore the chorus isn't as silly as elsewhere, although not a great one either. Of the other 4-5 good tracks "Spoonie Gee" (despite a silly chorus) and "Pumpkin's Groove" are also worth mentioning. Spoonie Gee sounds nice on "Get Loose" but the beat is unfortunately so small that it's almost an a capella. Other people here are Traedonya and Puffy Dunster with some inept rhymes and production. It's really a shame that Pumpkin's "King of the Beat", which was originally released on Profile, isn't here but I guess Tuff City weren't able to get the rights. This album actually deserves 2.5 stars but since 3 is too much we'll settle on 2.
