5 out of 5 stars Woo Hoo!.......2007-05-07

This is by far the best CD in the Baby Einstein collection--it will put your toddler in hyperactive playful mode and exhaust you as you try to keep up. But for today's overweight, tv- and game- addicted children, this is great!

5 out of 5 stars Einstein.......2007-04-09

Anything that has an Einstein in the title my twins love. I used to play this for them at night while they slept.

5 out of 5 stars The baby danced........2007-03-09

I gave Baby Einstein: Playtime Music Box to a little boy on his first birthday. He loves it and dances and dances to the music.

5 out of 5 stars A Lot of Fun for Playtime.......2006-01-04

This CD is a lot of fun. The music is bubbly and upbeat and makes you want to get up and dance or just jump around. It's a great way to spend some play time with your kids. And the classical music exposure is a bonus.

1 out of 5 stars Synthesized dreck.......2005-08-13

Why did the producers use synthesizers for this music? It's awful. It's possible to hook kids on classical music using the actual instruments written for it - that's how I got hooked. That's what Mel Blanc and Disney did in their cartoons, Bugs Bunny and Fantasia. I do NOT recommend this CD to anyone. It was a shower gift. If you are not familiar with classical music, then I recommend "Baby Needs Beethoven", which is a collection of music using real instruments (albeit shortened - no full length symphonies here).

Product Description

Children have a natural ability to learn multiple languages easily. Studies show that from birth to age 12, a child's brain is open to assimilate and retain other languages. With repeat exposure to another language, your child's mental develpment will be enriched and carry over into all aspects of learning. This entire CD has been sung only in Spanish to immerse the child fully in the language. This method has been proven to be the most effective way to teach secondary languages. Nursery rhyme songs are a perfect way to introduce or continue developing another language in a familiar setting. Children will recognize the tunes and be able to make a connection with what they are singing. The tempo of these songs has been slowed down slightly so that the words are easy for children to hear and articulate themselves, in order to sing along. Written lyrics have also been included. Childhood development is extremely important! Adding additional languages in a fun, musical environment will only increases a child's capacity for knowledge.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Distinct enunciation makes each word understandable.......2007-05-25

The absence of a lot of instruments makes the words on this CD very EASY TO UNDERSTAND. I already knew the English words to the songs ("Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star," "Old MacDonald Had a Farm," etc.) Because the singer pronounced each word very clearly, I quickly learned Spanish vocabulary while driving in my car.

4 out of 5 stars Entertaining & educational for the little ones..........2007-03-13

The simplicity of the accompaniment and the familiarity of the songs to the English speaker facilitates understanding of the Spanish lyrics. The artist has a nice voice and the words are individually enunciated making it easy to sing along. My children enjoy this CD and it is fun to see them picking up another language through music!!

3 out of 5 stars Very So-so.......2007-01-22

I really wanted and fully expected to love this CD. Unfortunately it sounds like it was recorded in someone's living room using a Casio for musical accompaniment. The woman has a nice singing voice and I appreciate that the songs have been slightly slowed to allow non-Spanish speakers more time to process the Spanish sounds, however overall I think of this as an amateur product.

5 out of 5 stars We love this CD!.......2006-12-23

We are English speaking parents of a 10 month old but we want our little one to learn Spanish. We play this CD for her all the time and we all love it. We also have the same songs in English and have played that one for her since birth, so all the sounds are familar to her. The songs are well sung and the tunes are all familar to any American English speaker. This is a great way to start introducing the little one to Spanish in a fun way!

5 out of 5 stars FORMIDABLE!.......2006-02-09

As a mother trying to teach my 3 year-old son Spanish, I enjoy this CD greatly, the songs are already familiar to the kids, and their learning capacity, even on a foreign language, is trully impressive, but most of all, my son loves it!

Since many Limp Bizkit, Eminem, and Korn fans aren't hip to the original rap influences that informed the late-1990s rap-metal explosion, Take a Bite Outta Rhyme's intentions are honorable--have rock bands cover tunes by rap luminaries such as Public Enemy, LL Cool J, and Ice-T. But things go astray with Dynamite Hack's intentionally sappy reworking of Eazy-E's "Boys-n-the Hood," followed by weak efforts from the overhyped Insane Clown Posse, Bloodhound Gang, and Dope. Then there are unimpressive entries from Driver, Factory 81, and Mindless Self Indulgence. The best renditions are heavy ones: Staind's "Bring the Noise," Sevendust's "Going Back to Cali," and Nonpoint's "The Tribute," which salutes Slick Rick, Busta Rhymes, and the Wu-Tang Clan. Rap-rock has come a long way since Aerosmith and Run-D.M.C. did "Walk This Way" and Anthrax performed a duet with Public Enemy, but as this CD indicates, the genre hasn't necessarily arrived at a better place. --Katherine Turman

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars phenomenal.......2006-09-21

I have owned this album sinced shortly after it came out, and I still LOVE IT!!!
Old school rap and heavy metal are two of my top musical genres, and this is a tremendous compilation... highest reccomendation for anyone who is a fan of the original hip hop tracks that are expertly covered on this album. Also highly reccomended for anyone who is a fan of any of the bands featured on this album. From Sevendust to the Kottonmouth Kings, this CD is solid, start to finsh. Can I give it 6 stars?

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 Stars - It's okay, not bad. But only a few noteables.......2005-04-11

Since this album has been out a while, this review is probably an utter waste of time as either you all probably own it or will never know about it. However, my thoughts are as follows...

It starts strong. Staind does good, no whining like their newer songs, and Mister Durst is about as odd as ever (odd meaning childish but fun at the same time). Sevendust's song is alright; I've never heard the original song that they covered, but from the sounds of things its written like a fifteen-year-old did it. From there, things dwindle and fade into background noise.
Then comes Nonpoint. This song starts good, gets you interested. After a little bit you notice it keeps getting heavier and weirder and doesn't relent. You may not like it. But, mark my words, it will soon grow on you. In time, you'll be owning their first album and loving that too. Then you'll get their second album and puke but that's another review...

So, if you've just now strayed onto this page and are looking at buying this cd of yesterday, I hope I have helped your decision-making. I would overall recommend it, but only for a few standout songs. The rest is just sub-par. Then again, I am not much of a rap fan but a rap/metal with emphasis on metal fan. So, decide for your own tastes. I do not think you will be overly disappointed at all.

4 out of 5 stars Tha Tribute..........2003-02-13

This album, rare for alot of tribute albums, is actually pretty dope. I downloaded the track "Staind featuring Fred Durst and DJ Lethal of Limp Bizkit - Bring The Noise(Public Enemy/Anthrax cover)" and instantly I wanted this album. That song was only a part of this amazing CD. Dynamite Hack's Eazy-E cover of "Boyz-N-The Hood" is astounding. Its not heavy and loud, but has a nice acoustic guitar throughout the whole song. I guess you could call this a parody, but its my favorite track on the album. Insane Clown Posse(although a rap group) even appears. They do a cover of Sir-Mix-A-Lot's "Posse On Broadway". I'm a huge ICP fan and I think this track is alright but a little out of place on this album. Its still classic though. KMK, also known as the Kotton Mouth Kings, do a cover of the Getto Boys' classic, "Mind Playin' Tricks On Me". This song is awesome and is a great introduction to future KMK fans. Mindless Self Indulgence do a cover of Method Man's "Bring The Pain". This song is totally awesome if you like M.S.I. Factory 81, a band who I've never heard before, does the Cypress Hill hit, "Insane in the Brain". This song is okay, I like the screams but I don't think he has a good rap voice. =)> All in all, this album is awesome. I recommend it to the extreme rap/metal fans and even heavy metal fans. This is a great compilation...

5 out of 5 stars Why is the Emphasis on type of music?.......2003-01-23

I would have to claim this album to be one of the absolute best albums of all time!! I am about as all around in terms of music as you can get. I grew up on classic rock, rap, metal, classical, regea, oldies, country and even pop. This album is a great taster of some of the little known bands. The thought of taking some of the most classic rap songs and redoing them by these high potential up-and-coming groups is ingenious. This CD was my first experience with MSI, nonpoint, and factory 81. I have since fallen in love with the untapped greatness of each band. I even enjoyed the Staind song on the album and personally don't have much interest in the band. Dynamite Hack pulled off a miracle with Boyz, I didn't think that the song could ever be pulled off by anyone other than a rap group however they did it beautifully. Lets not forget the Clown's, KMKings, and even a little touch from the Jerky Boys, to round out this high quality CD.
I am very happy with the fact that this is a tribute by new rock musicians dedicated to old school rap. This album is proof that good new musicians will always find ways to press out from between the wastefulness of sellouts like Limp Bizkit and PapaRoach.
In finishing I would like to tell each and every one of you who are reading this review that you can't go wrong by buying this CD, you have gotten far enough to see my review you might as well buy it and see for yourself what a great album really sounds like. Since I bought this CD back in early 2001 I have passed it out successfully to more than a dozen friends with no complaints what so ever!! Very few CD's deserve 5 stars and in my opinion this deserves 5.5, but enough talk click buy, or at least find a friend who owns it.

5 out of 5 stars Everyone Wants To Be A Hustler.......2002-07-11

This is a good CD. You don't have to like hip hop/rap to enjoy the remakes of these classic songs. Worth the purchase price? Yes, because Dope does a killer version of New Jack Hustler that will blow your mind.

1 out of 5 stars NOT original recordings!!!.......2007-06-25

i had this tape when i was in jr. high and IT RULED! i thought id replace my lost tape with a cd. WRONG. is this a remix or something? if youre looking for old school ice-t, dont waste your money on this.

5 out of 5 stars Groundbreaking.......2007-05-08

I'm not a huge fan of rap, but Ice-T deserves a lot of credit - or infamy - for creating a new genre of music: "Gangsta Rap". Sure, this album sounds dated by today's standards, and subsequent Ice-T albums are better, but this is a classic album that opened the floodgates for this new form of music. Ice-T is a genius, whether or not you agree with his views on the world, and this is a must have album for fans - and even non-fans - of the genre.

5 out of 5 stars dope.......2004-12-04

I've been an Ice T fan for years..I'm 31 years old and still this is a dope album to this day..I have over 500 hip hop cd's and this one is def. a classic..He's gone to do more since then..rememba his movies...But his best album is OG..just like me..

3 out of 5 stars Solid Debut.......2004-08-29

For me Ice-T is one of the best rappers ever and I've spent long hours listening to his hardcore gangster rap. Kind of odd for a middle-aged white guy but what can I say? His in your face, pro-freedom of speech attitude is one that I hold myself. He is one of the founding fathers of gangster rap and one of it's most innovative lyricists. I've seen Ice-T do his rap act only once but have seen him with his band Body Count four times and he puts on a tremendous show.

Rhyme Pays is Ice-T's first album and to be honest I only really like one song on it. The lyrics are clever, as is the case on most of Ice-T's albums, but the beats start to drone on a little a bit at times. Nevertheless, it's very pretty cool mostly.

But it only gets one star:

6 'N the Mornin' *

------------------------------------------------------------
Ratings: CDs are rated simply by how many good songs are on the album. Great songs get two stars, and good songs get one star. Songs that get no stars are those that I might like but not enough to give it a star or ones I find boring or actively dislike. CDs are not penalized for songs that I don't like because they are easy enough to skip over. There is no maximum number of stars a CD can get, but of course the more stars it gets, the better the CD.

As with all reviews, these are my subjective opinions on the album.

5 out of 5 stars Grand Larcenist, Soloist, Lyracist, Vocalist, Crime by Rhyme.......2003-02-01

You wonder how Ice-T became famous? You wanna know why enough people listened to "Cop-Killer" to make a fuss in the first place? Well Rhyme Pays and Power were the reasons. On this album, Rhyme Pays, anyone who appreciates skill and style will find plenty. "Pain" is what describes Ice-T's philosophy. "Rhyme Pays" shows his skill. Put simply, you can't claim to be old-school and not have this album. It is just too darn good to never have heard. I burned out two tapes of it back before cds...

Album Description

What if physicist Dr. Stephen Hawking had a secret life as a gangsta rapper? Confined to a wheelchair due to Lou Gehrig's Disease, Dr. Hawking lost the use of his vocal chords in an operation to assist his breathing in 1985. Since then he's used a speech synthesizer that speaks for him when he types in the computer what he wants to say. After seeing the Beastie Boys in 1988, be became obsessed with rap and immersed himself in the culture, favoring the harder-edged music by NWA and The Ghetto Boyz. From this, MC Hawking was born. Here are 16 dope, booty shaking, digitally mastered tracks from the undisputed king of theoretical gangsta-astrophysics, collected on one CD for the first time. "It's hard to decide whether the parody is downright brilliant or borderline offensive, but it certainly made us laugh"--Salon. "I'm flattered in an odd sort of way"--Dr. Stephen Hawking.

5 out of 5 stars Hawkman Gangsta Rap.......2007-04-12

This is totally gangsta rap style synthesized voice like Stephen Hawking's. You will not be disappointed with this if you liked mc chris. Completely amazing how he made the songs so smooth.

5 out of 5 stars Actually really good music..........2006-10-05

The joke of having Hawking do gangsta rap wouldn't last an entire album except (a) the science is actually pretty good, and (b) the music is totally great.

I'd like to mention I also like Beastie Boys and N.W.A. and Run-DMC -- essentially, if you like rap, I suspect you'll like this album.

5 out of 5 stars Funny and insightful.......2006-05-15

In one word - Unique. I've listened to this album many times over and it's actually on my iPod. I have no clue as to why someone would want to buy NWA over MC Hawkings, but you've heard it here first from a self proclaimed engineer. This has wit, style, and a funny background. I'll be a life long fan.

3 out of 5 stars Brilliant but maybe too brilliant.......2006-01-19

I have to concur with most of the 5 star ratings for Mr. Hawking's pseudo-escape into gangsta rapping. Ken's lyrics are brilliant and hilarious, which makes me want to rewind my cassette, listen again and sing to myself in my car or in line at Microcenter.
The gimmick of the music, MC Hawking's electronic voice, is holding the music back for me. Keeps the music from leaving it's kitschy value and moving into respectable, listenable hip-hop. Fans will say that I've lost the point of the whole concept, Stephen Hawking uses a electronic voice box... But when it comes down to it, I'd rather here his genius through the vocal cords of an avatar capable of emotional inflection, not a mostly monotonous machine. Pi stars for the lyrics and the premise. If you like or can get past the voice box, you'll enjoy MC Hawking for a very long time.

1 out of 5 stars 1 lame joke does not make a listenable album.......2005-11-07

I normally don't review things for Amazon. Not interested in working for free... Amazing how they have tricked us into creating their marketing material for them for free...

Regradless, I had to say something when I saw all the 5 star reviews of this terrible record.

I'm a smart guy. Computer Networking Engineer, GPS Owning, Big Screen TV watching, ex Phone Phreaking, genuine geek. Most of my friends love MC Hawking. I don't.

The first time I heard an MC Hawking song, I chuckled. For about half the song. Then, I got tired of trying to make out what the AT&T Voice Synthesizer was trying to say (Rap?). I would probably enjoy a lecture by the man. The rap, however, isn't worth the effort.

Smart guys trying to be gangsta rappers is about as sad as it sounds. Smart Guys flocking behind some guy with a speech synthesizer spouting high mathemetical concepts is as sad as watching that same group rock out to an all-klingon punk band as a Star Trek convention. Please, try not to be the very definition of the stereotype!

The stuff isn't repetedly listenable, and new songs sound just like the old songs.

A buddy went to a couple of "concerts" this guy put on (no kidding, he actually toured with his speach synthesizer and midi-sequencer), and tried to convince me how cool it all was. I was appauled.

The fact that this guy made up an albumn of his songs is unbelieveable. Really, if you are curious, try out the demo cuts here. They really are as lame as they sound.

If making a speech synthesizer curse repeatedly is your kind of fun, go ahead and buy this. Otherwise, go do something more usefull with your $15.00. Buy an actual NWA record if you want. You'll respect yourself more in the morning.

3 out of 5 stars "Rhyme + Reason" Soundtrack.......2005-07-16

The soundtrack to Peter Spirer's compelling documentary, "Rhyme & Reason" makes a worthwhile companion piece to the film. While many of the artists on the soundtrack may not be as well known to today's music crowd, the music contained within this album is truly something special. Mack 10's collaboration with Tha Dogg Pound on "Nothin' But The Cavi Hit" is an excellent introduction to the album with Kurupt ripping the mic apart behind a hard beat courtesy of Daz. Likewise, Busta's energy on "Wild Hot" guest starring A Tribe Called Quest is absolutely bonkers. "Uni-4-orm" featuring Canibus, Ras Kass, and Heltah Skeltah is probably my favorite song on the soundtrack as future Horsemen partners, Ras and Canibus just kill it. KRS-One's "Bring It Back" is another banger with Kris bring his usual charisma to the table. Also worth checking out are E-40's "Every Year" and The RZA's "Tragedy". Master P's "Is There Heaven 4 A Gangsta?" is one of the few misses as P drops some rather lackluster rhymes over an obnoxious chorus. It proves to be the "pothole in the road" in an otherwise smooth ride of entertaining 90's rap anthems.

3 out of 5 stars Rhyme & Reason.......2004-12-08

This album seems to have almost everyone. The tracks might of not made the local radio stations but the album was nice. It has a great blend of east and west coast styles. I'm just amazed this one didn't pop off as well as it should of. Pick it up if you get the chance.

4 out of 5 stars A must for rap addicts.......1998-12-12

This album combines the best of east/west coast with artists such as RZA, MC Eight, KRS-ONE Busta Rhymes, E40, ect. While a couple tracks are weak, most are bangin, such as Tragedy and Represent. Basically, this is a great compilation album that is worth getting!

5 out of 5 stars Roky Rules.......2003-08-13

Roky rocks. This is among the finest things he's ever recorded, and that includes his incredible stuff in the 13th Floor Elevators. A bit miraculous, all things considered.

4 out of 5 stars A Meaningful Work of Art.......2002-01-19

I met Roky on Halloween 1996 in a grocery store in Austin, Texas, and got to chat with him (and the person assisting him) for a couple minutes. Not surprisingly, no one else had a clue as to who he was. I did, having bought this CD just a few months earlier. It was entirely unlike anything I expected. Indeed, the new recordings do sound like Buddy Holly, although there are also a few older recordings mixed in, that are quite different. The work is actually fairly touching, and gives the listener the impression of listening to a battle-scarred soldier of life working out his demons. You also get the impression that he's won the battle...the same feeling I had after meeting him.

5 out of 5 stars heir to buddy holly.......2000-04-29

Everything by this man is gold. I know of few other artists who are able to speak from the heart in this way. A miracle that this album exists at all. But it does and it shares very few similarities with his earlier solo work or his work with the elevators. To me it is every bit as great. Roky shows himself to be the true texas heir to Budddy Holly's crown. I could go on, but I have to go to away.

5 out of 5 stars When being comfortable, it is feeling........2006-05-28

That seems like the positive shining in the spring just, seems like the refreshing wind. You remember the time of the child and become kind feeling. As for me when it soaks in memory of sepia, the refreshing wind touches the hair simultaneously.Feeling good acoustic sound and being attractive, the melody which is approachable gives healing to me. Kith who is the famous Artist Player older brother of Scot's supports this album securely and has made perfect ones. Also Scot's singing is refined.Feeling of the refreshing day of afternoon which clears up. When being comfortable, it is feeling.

5 out of 5 stars Memorable Tunes are only the beginning.......2001-10-31

This is an album full of wonderful tunes, performed beautifully.

Lady, for example, is a short vignette or repetition which sticks in your head. . . the first time I heard it, I swore I had heard it a million times before. . . which so beautifully reflected the lyrics . . . "in a life that passed before . . now I only love you more . ." It's folksy, in a way, yet polished as well.

But it goes beyond that. Possibly the best part of this CD is the contribution of his brother, the amazing jazz pianist Keith Jarrett. Keith complements Scott's music so perfectly, it's like they were mind-melded. All the other musicians on the CD are top-notch players, and it's a well-crafted piece of work.

Listen to "Pictures" to hear the Syzygy of these two musically opposite brothers. . . . then enjoy the rest. Yes, there are a couple of weak songs on the CD . .in fact, the title tune is one of the weakest offerings. Overall, you'll be glad you got this one. I only hope it's re-released in the US so you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for it.
