1 out of 5 stars Worst cd yet..........2005-01-04

This review is coming from a person who thinks that Soul Food is a top 10 album of all time so keep that in mind. Since their initial album I have felt that successive albums were missing something. In fact, each album became slightly worse. Although they all had good songs, the quality slowly diminished. So I was hesitant to get this cd and I am sad to say that I did. This is a bad album and their worst album. There are 2 or 3 good songs. I was shocked by the 360 the Goodie MOB has taken. For example, there is one song on this album talking about robbing people and if you ain't in the game for the money then what the hell you here for, which is completely different from what they were preaching in earlier albums (admirably, I might add). Anyways, this album is not worth the money.

3 out of 5 stars Those were the days..........2004-11-06

After Cee-Lo left the infamous Goodie MoB following the extremely too mainstream album World Party and issued a couple of decent solo joints of his own, people thought it was the end of the crew. But still came their latest album, One Monkey Don't Stop No Show. The title alone got people talking, and I think my favorite website said it best: "while the group is rumored to still be on good terms with Cee-Lo, it's pretty hard not to read something into the title of the LP."

But after hearing "Play Your Flutes", a lot of fans decided that T-Mo, Big Gipp and Khujo could do fine on their own (even though that song has helping hands from Kurupt and Sleepy Brown). The thing is, though, that's the last song on the album, and it's not exactly easy to get to that point. A lot of these songs really aren't that great. There are a lot of been-there-done-that songs like "God I Wanna Live", "Shawty Wanna Be a Gangsta" and "Dead Homies" (and why is that song so peppy-sounding?). And "High & Low" is sort of risqué.

There are also some weird songs, including the crazy "Big City" and the generic "Goodiadvice". If you think the latter has an unimaginative title, you're right, but there's more. "One Monkey" doesn't really go anywhere, yet it still manages to contain some of the wackest lyrics I've heard all year. On second thought, maybe I should say that about "123 Goodie". Check the chorus: "One Goodie, two Goodie, three Goodie, four/Five Goodie, six Goodie, seven Goodie, more." And for some reason, in the MIDDLE of the album you'll find a track called "We Back", but the song is so dull that it'll make you say, "So?"

Everything else is tolerable, except for the fact that in a few songs the guys actually let themselves get outshined by Witchdoctor. And I'm also not sure when Big Gipp and Khujo started sounding exactly alike. Despite its shortcomings, this is still better than World Party, but it still doesn't come remotely close to Soul Food or Still Standing. You're probably better off picking up either of Cee-Lo's albums instead. One Monkey Don't Stop No Show? Wanna bet?

4 out of 5 stars Solid Release For The Goodie Mo.B.......2004-09-15

After the backlash the group received from "World Party", Goodie Mob returns closer to form with this release. The powerful "God I Wanna Live" has Soul Food written all over it. The two thing that brought this album down was when the group ventures outside of their comfort zone (namely "In da Streets", "Grindin", & about 2 or 3 others) and the obvious void left by Mr. Ceelo Green. But if you compare this album to a lot of garbage that's out now, you can see the goodness (no pun intended) of the album. Nowadays, any album with more than 5 tolerable songs is considered a good album. Anyway, this is a pretty good album by my standards. Even without Ceelo, it could have been 4.5 stars by excluded the forementioned tracks and adding 4 Organized Noize tracks to replace them. Still worth listening to though.

3 out of 5 stars Add Cee Lo And Mix (3.5 Stars).......2004-08-23

All the significant things that should have been said about this album have pretty much been covered in all the previous reviews. And for the most part, they're all true. This is a good album that could've been better. But something is missing, and I think we all know what (or who) that is. Tracks like "Shawty Wanna Be A Gangsta", "High & Low", "One Monkey", and "Goodiadvice" are good songs, but they just don't sound like "Goodie" style tracks. And out of place tracks like "In Da Streets", "Big City", "Grindin", and "We Back" are wack and the beats just don't suit the G-Mo-B at all. And "It Ain't Nothin' For Us" was a huge mistake.....Goodie and gunplay mix about as well as water and a grease fire. But you will find that there are tracks like "God I Wanna Live", "Play Your Flutes", "123 Goodie", "What You See", and "Dead Homies" that are tight and are classic "Goodie style" tracks that have Mr. Green written all over them. If you want proof, just listen to the hook on "God I Wanna Live" or try to picture him singing some sort of hook on "Dead Homies". You can listen to this album and actually point out spots on the album where you could say "Insert Cee Lo Here". His absence is THAT apparent on some tracks. Overall, the CD is a solid effort. It's like a 1000 piece puzzle though........no matter how many pieces you have put together, it might be a great accomplishment, but it's not complete without the final piece. And on this album, the final (and most notable) piece is missing on this LP and that keeps a good album from being a great album.

Standout Tracks: 123 Goodie, Play Your Flutes feat. Sleepy Brown & Kurupt, God I Wanna Live feat. Witchdoctor, Synopsis feat. Big Rube, Dead Homies (My Favorite), and What You See

1 out of 5 stars The Goodie tree has fallen.......2004-07-29

This album was a huge disappointment. I was a HUGE Goodie fan until this drivel came out. Cee-lo pulled the Goodie sound together and he is truly missed. The beats sound like they came out of one of Master P's late 90's "lets make an album in 10 days" efforts.

I will forever remember Goodie as a two album group and wash this album from my memory.

    4 out of 5 stars Half-A-Mill - Da Hustle Don't Stop.......2006-03-27

Half-A-Mill's (AKA Jasun Ward) final album was "Da Hustle Don't Stop" (2002). Repping Brooklyn, Half-A-Mill was a rapper on the rise, when he was tragically murdered in 2003. This was his second album, a follow up to his debut album "Million" (2000). Half-A-Mill opens this album up with an upbeat party track called "Get In Da Club" feat. Dolce . The albums title track the raw "Da Hustle Don't Stop" follows, Half rhymes with hunger talking about living the life of a hustler, he backs this up with his own strong chorus. Half-A-Mill then reps "N.Y.C.", telling what life is like in his city. Half-A-Mill then provides an excellent cut with "Get Up", an upbeat anthem - one of my favourite party tracks from Half, his lyrics, Hersanity's chorus and the mellow beat result in a memorable cut. Half-A-Mill then takes his listeners through his life on the outstanding "Go On", reflecting on his childhood and family life, having a dead beat dad and the grandmother who looked out for him, growing up and getting involved in the game, he laces the cut with a quality chorus. Backed by a familiar beat, Half-A-Mill keeps moving with another great track in "Salute". Half-A-Mill collaborates with female singer Quintay Soul on "Things You Do" a solid loyalty type love track. Half then flips things over on "Can I Trust You", a track where he questions a ladys loyalty. Half-A-Mill talks about the ladies some more on "Only You". Nature was on Half-A-Mill's debut album and returns for his second, and the two provide another standout with "Izzerb". Backed by a sad sounding beat Half-A-Mill drops thug tales while talking about the feeling of wanting to get away from the game and have a "Vacation". Slept on up and comers Ali Vegas and Sleepy Eyes (AKA Eyes Low) collaborate with Half-A-Mill on the excellent "Sopranos Style", all three MC's shine on a very memorable track, which is laced with a tight beat. Half-A-Mill gets political on "Soddom and Gommorrah" talking about the government, police brutality, diseases etc while Reggae singer Sluggy Ranks puts his own reggae spin on another standout cut. Half-A-Mill then rhymes with confidence on the upbeat rags to riches standout "World Famous". The fast paced "Real Things" follows, then Half-A-Mill slows things down on "Milliato" talking about the street life he's living, providing his own chorus "Milliato lives to ride another day That's what I heard 'em say". Half-A-Mill then lets a short dope beat finish off the "Outro". Both of Half-A-Mills album are strong releases, what I noticed about this second one is Half-A-Mill was developing his flow and content more, providing stronger choruses, and rhyming with even more confidence. Half-A-Mill (R.I.P.) had a lot of potential it would have been great to see where he went, I recommend checking out "Da Hustle Don't Stop" an album worth adding to the collection, do not sleep.

    4 out of 5 stars Half a Mil spendin G-notes sailin in ski-boats .......2005-06-07

This CD shows evolution from his Debut, it seemed that he was getting better at writing, flowing, everything- Half A Mil was more than on the right track- unfortunately he was killed back in 2003 so his music won't be heard from again after this.

favorite tracks on here, even though there all good:

    "Go On'
    "world famous"
    "puffin on izzerb"

and the outro has to be one of the illest outros to any album i've ever heard even tho theres no rapping.

This guy could've been the next Kool G Rap, his flow was ridiculous and his vocab was just nasty, he was on some other ish mentally and lyrically.

If you want a good hip hop album then buy this- its sad that I see its only $1 used on here, because in reality the music is priceless.

    Peace

    4 out of 5 stars 3.5 star follow up --- R.I.P........2004-11-30

Half A Mill returns two years after he dropped "Milion" which is one of my favorite CD's to date. This one is not as good but still a good one to have. Has a bunch of good songs to start off the album but after number 7 there is only 3 or 4 quality songs with most of them being average. Doesn't feature any known rappers other than Nature and Ali Vegas and has a lot of females on this one. Production is handled by 2 I never heard of: DJ Ali (12 songs) and J Blend (4 songs) with one song by someone else - overalll they did an pretty good job although some of them aren't to good. A good cd to have for his fans.

    #1 - 8 (f/ Dolce)
#2 - 9.5 (my favorite on the album)
    #3 - 8
    #4 - 8.5 (f/ Hersanity)
    #5 - 8 (f/ Quintay Soul)
    #6 - 8 (slower more relaxing beat)
    #7 - 7.5 (f/ Quintay Soul)
#8 - 6 (slower one about the ladies)
    #9 - 7
#10 - 9 (f/ Nature -- about puffin on some herb - I have one with a diffeent beat that I like better the 3-6 mafia/UGK beat from "Sippin on some Sizzurp")
    #11 - 6 (slower beat)
    #12 - 7
    #13 - 7 (f/ Ali Vegas & Sleepy Eyes)
    #14 - 7 (f/ Sluggy Ranks)
    #15 - 9 (upbeat song)

    5 out of 5 stars Sunspot's best album yet........2007-01-04

Although I have to admit, I was skeptical of this album due to the fact that this album was released by a major label, not sunspot's own label, I was very impressed with this album. The production is explosive on some tracks and very smooth on others. This album really doesn't get old no matter how much I play it. Sunspot maintains all the soul of a mystik journeymen album, but steps up his energy on this one. I truly feel that this is sunspot jonz at his absolute peak in solo albums. If you love sunspot's energy, please don't sleep, buy this album before any other sunspot release. Then go out and buy all the mystik journeymen albums you can still find. Then buy sunspot's Child Ov the Storm cd. Honestly, all other sunspot albums pale in comparison to these two in my humble opinion.

I lived overseas in Germany for four years, and this album was very popular. The main song was played at all the clubs, and my friends and I always danced to it. This album brings back great memories of the European Techno scene and I recommend it for anyone who is really interested in knowing how the Germans like their music.

5 out of 5 stars Solid EP release from Jay Z's mentor........2004-10-16

This is Jaz's last album on EMI and the last before his protege, Jay Z blew up with Reasonable Doubt. Jaz has a fast but smooth flow and rhymes over beats from the 45 King, Xtra P and others on this EP release. If you can find a copy definitely cop it. When you hear Jaz rap you can tell that Jay Z modeled his style after Jaz's, but their styles grew in different directions over the years. They collaborate on the last cut on this album. It is a shame they didn't do a full length together as their flows complement eachother very well.

    4 out of 5 stars Jay-Z's Blueprint?.......2004-01-17

Jaz,back in 1991,was a very promising young MC.He could flow fast like Treach or smooth like Kane, get lyrically intricate like Kool g rap,or even sing a little like Candy Man?A versatlie MC,Jaz's mesh of styles was very late 80's/early 90's.This was before Onyx helped to obliterate one of rap's eardrum and psyche. If you was from Brooklyn back then, you knew that Jaz was an underground lyrical legend like Lord Finese. His attempts at Rap stardom can clearly be shown on the "Ya don't stop"EP.

"Sign of the Crimes"is an uptempo 3-verse story detailing the wrongdoings of a hustler named smooth{smooth tha hustla?}and his wife."Hypocriters"is a self explanatory joint also told in detailed fashion and produced by Large Professor."A Groove"is a very well produced laid back smooth joint that every rapper seemed to have back in the day.You could just hear the word "smooth"in every rappers'vocabulary back then. It's all good though."It's your Nature" finds Jaz explaining why certain kinds of people such as,Cops do what they do.The very last song features an appearance by the one and only Jay-z,where he claims to use a....get this..."PEN and PAD"
"Ya don't stop is a very solid EP from the MC who claimed to have given birth to Jay-z's Blueprint.
