Great opera, not just for children.......2006-10-06
Regrettably Hansel and Gretel has acquired a reputation as an opera for children. Yes, the title characters are children (sung by adult sopranos) and children often find this opera more appealing than most other operas, but Hansel and Gretel is a great opera which should appeal to people of all ages, if they will listen to it without bias. Personally, I think it's one of the half dozen or so greatest operas ever written. Humperdinck was a student and devotee of Wagner and was heavily influenced by him, but he managed to express the best elements of the Wagnerian style on a human scale. Even people who regard Wager's operas as long and tedious should find Hansel and Gretel quite beautiful and appealing. This is a very good performance, comparable to the one with Anna Moffo as Gretel and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau as the father, which is my personal favorite. But whichever performance you choose, if you love great operas, please get Hansel and Gretel and listen to it without any preconceived notions.

Il est évident que Humperdinck suivait la tradition Wagnérienne lorsqu'il composa Hänsel et Gretel. Mais Wagner n'aurait pu faire quelque chose d'aussi rafraichissant! Nous avons droit ici à un opéra pour enfant mais, excusez-moi le mot, mais mignon comme tout. Vous aurez un plaisir incroyable à l'écouter et les chanteurs et surtout chanteuses (!) qui font un travail incroyable. Lucia Popp et Brigitte Fassbaender font toutes deux un travail époustouflant! La direction de Solti est impécable et elle est empreint d'une vivacité incroyable. Chacune des scènes clés est superbement dirigée (La prière ainsi que la Pantomime sont d'une beauté subliminale) et les effets sont extrèmement réussis. Nous avons ici le droit au four qui éclate (!), un effet très amusant! Et que dire de Anny Schlemm qui interprète avec une vivante vigueur le rôle sorcière, qui sait insuffler à son personnage une touche diabolique incroyable. Offert ici dans la nouvelle série The Compact Opera Collection de Decca, le libretto n'est toutefois pas inclut en version papier. Un livret est présent pour expliquer le déroulement des diverses scènes de l'opéra et le libretto complet est inclut sur le premier CD, que vous pouvez ouvrir lorsque vous mettez votre CD dans votre ordinateur. Vous pouvez vous procurez la version avec libretto papier inclut pour quelques dollards de plus! Quoi qu'il en soit, vous ne pouvez vous passer de ce superbe petit bijou, que vous et vos enfants (!) aurez du plaisir à écouter!

Come Take A Spin In A Carney Ride!.......2003-03-08
First off, while this single is fresh and fairly rare, its worth it to the juggalos and collectors. But then again, ALOT of people dig this song, it was extremely popular in Europe which is why this is an import single, and, like all other singles by I.C.P in the U.S., it never got much air-play because of their image. This single contains 4 tracks of 'Hokus Pokus', and the other version(#2), contains 3 other previously-released tracks including 'My Kind of Bxtch' and 'Prom Queen' off their "Tunnel of Love" ep, as well as the fresh song 'Skitsofrantic' from their "Terror Wheel" ep. Most juggalos will have both of the versions and most prefer #2 so I would suggest that version if its available as is that ones rarer then this one and has different songs to bump to. Anyway, like I said, this contains the 'Hokus Pocus' track in 4 different versions...
'Headhuntaz Remix' was remixed by a famous DJ in Europe named Jason Nevins. The remix was a hit in Europe and other countries out of the U.S., so their label, Polygram, decided to make it a single-disc internationally which is why its hard to find here in the states. This is also the video-version of the song and is also available on "Forgotten Freshness volume 2". I think this track is pretty phat, its different beat-wise and done well by Jason, I recommend this song to people who want to hear a little taste of the flavor by I.C.P.
'Radio Edit' is the LP version of the song, only remixed for radio. Not much different from the LP version, just edited. And as we all know, edits are for radio/MTV-people so its stale, but its I.C.P so its still fresh.
'Headhuntaz Instrumental' is just the beats for the remix and is fresh for karaoke or if you just want to hear some dope bass and sxit.
'LP Version' can be found on their album "The Great Milenko", and this is the original song. I dig this song alot and I think it was smart for the clowns to make this a single as its more accesible for pre-juggalos and still has that wicked flavor we all know and love. I like this version better then the remix, but its all fresh.
Most part-time juggalos wouldn't even bother to get this, but hardcore juggalos and collectors will love to have this in their collection. I dig this single alot, and I think you will too if you like the Hokus Pokus song. See you in the Dark Carnival...

This is a remix of one of the best songs off the Great Milenko. The remix of it is MUCH better cause it has more bass and it has a BETTER bass beat to it. This is a must for all the juggaloes across the world!!! If ya don't have this you're a bxtch and you can fxck off!!!!!!

Portrait Of A Great Soprano.......2004-11-21
This album features several great performances of the incredible high dramatic and lyric German soprano Edda Moser. She was a soprano in the "grand" tradition, though she is lesser known except for the few and faithful fans who know her intimately through having seen her in performances in Europe and through her recordings. Edda Moser was the daughter of Hans Joachim Moser, an esteemed German music philosopher. Her Met debut was as one of the Rhinemaidens in Wagner's Das Rheingold. Most people are familiar with Moser through her incredible performance as Dona Ana in Joseph Losey's film version of Don Giovanni starring Ruggero Raimondi and the famous Kiri Te Kenawa as Dona Elvira, this being back in 1979.
Her training was mostly in German opera but she excelled in the Italian operas of Mozart: Dona Ana in Don Giovanni, The Queen of the Night In The Magic Flute, diva roles in Idomeneo and Mitridate and her Puccini role was of Liu in Turandot. She was also a hot item in German operetta (Suppe's Boccacio is among a recording of such)and German Lieder- Schubert's Paradise Und Peri. She sang the soprano part in Rossini's Stabat Mater, not an easy task for a singer. In this sense, Edda Moser was a bit like Birgit Nilsson, who sang the difficult high tessituras in several operas. Her voice was heavy and dramatic but lyric and spinto so it was hard for her to take on roles such as Tosca or Norma. She was a champion of rare operas at a time when revivals were making it possible for such operas as Mozart's Idomeneo to be performed even today. Mozart's Mitridate should be performed with more frequency and Moser's performance in that opera shows why. This collection showcases much of her talents, particularily in the German/Mozart repertoire. She makes the best Queen of the Night ever and her Dona Ana raises the bar for sopranos today.
