Following their ascension from the Atlanta music scene in 1994, Outkast have spent the greater part of a decade creating innovative and challenging music that disproves the persistent rumor of hip-hop's imminent demise. That's because Andre 3000 and Big Boi are artists of the first order. Coming off a run of four critically acclaimed albums, plus a successful collaboration with their extended clan, the Dungeon Family, Big Boi and Dre present a collection of their greatest hits, which includes three previously unreleased tracks. Highlights among the older material include the original (non-album) version of their first-ever single, "Playa's Ball"; ATLiens' "Elevators"; the spoken-word dub-funk of Aquemini's "Spottieottiedopalicious"; and "B.O.B", the song that caused Stankonia to enter mainstream territory. The new songs are of the same high caliber and should be a good enough reason for die-hard fans to pick this CD up--there's no such thing as too much Outkast in your collection. --Rebecca Levine

Your best bet.......2006-06-22
If you're a hardcore OutKast fan, you already own this LP as well as all the others (or at least your personal favs since none of their offerings are exactly the same).
If you're lukewarm, more casual or just getting into 'Kast, this really is the LP you should start with because you truly get a "Greatest Hits Pre-2003" sampling of this group's many styles and flavors.
Do you like party music to jam to? It's here.
Do you prefer something funky & out of the ordinary? It's here.
Do you like above average lyrics and something that makes you think? There are songs on this CD that will fulfill that need as well.
Probably what makes OutKast so beloved, so respected and so watched is the fact they always find ways to be unique, innovative and more creative than what's out there in the world of music when they drop.
I honestly believe since they've been out for so long ('92, '93) and changed so much, every OutKast fan has a favorite OutKast sound or era.
The good news is that "Big Boi and Dre Present ..." has something for everybody!
'Kast's earlier work is a happy medium between funky but G'ed Up hip hop that's straight from the Gangsta Rap scene that dominated the better part of the '90s.
Songs like "Git Up, Git Out (and Get Something)," "Player's Ball," and "Ain't No Thang" kind of exemplify a time gone by. Big Boi 2 this day laughs about that material and where his head was -- yet this isn't a dis, but more of an artistic reflection. All of these tracks remain relevant and classic!
If Funk is more your thing, listen to "Crumblin' Erb," "Spottieottiedopaliscious" and to "Southernplayalisticadilacmuzik". These are tracks ladies I know always feel.
OutKast crossed over in a big way and while considered highly commercial by many standards, signature 'Kast songs like "Ms. Jackson," "Bombs Over Baghdad" (which is NOT a war song, btw), "So Fresh, So Clean" and "The Whole World" are hits that rightfully made this LP.
Perhaps 'Kast's most creative, innovative and thought-provoking jams like the highly political "Rosa Parks" and "Aquemini" are also among favorites on this LP. This group has always had messages in the overwhelming majority of their songs (even the party ones) and these tracks are indicative of their intelligence and talent.
The only knock against this CD is the fact that perhaps the greatest OutKast song of all-time, a track from the 1998 LP Aquemini called "Liberation" didn't make the final product.
That's a song all of you need to hear.
At any rate, OutKast is easily among the greatest of all hip hop duos -- if not the greatest -- on the level of Eric B & Rakim, EPMD, Redman & Method Man (aka da Blunt Brothers) and UGK.
Highly recommended purchase for any music fan of distinguished taste, male or female, gay or straight, young or old, black, white, brown, red or yellow.
Hey man, this is cool.......2006-05-23
I'm not a rap person so I didn't know this was a Outkast greatest hits, I saw it had Ms. Jackson and it was $7 so I picked it up. I have since picked up speakerboxx/the love below and loved that even more. outkast isn't your typical rap, which mostly is bland and uncreative, this stuff crosses genres and races. this hard rocker likes these cats very much
Good collection.......2006-04-30
This CD has a lot of great tracks and makes a good addition to some Outkast fan collections. The best tracks on it are probably BOB and Whole World, but it's strong as a whole. Rosa Parks definitely deserves mention, too because it's got a fantastic beat. The CD might be worth 5 stars, except that it is just a collection of a lot of stuff most of us fans have already. But if you're new to Outkast and looking for a first CD to get, this is where to start.
I don't know what else you expected to get, it's Outkast, one of the most innovative hip-hop groups around now.
The Term Greatest Hits Needs To Be Redefined [4 stars].......2006-01-19
First and foremost, I'm a big fan of Outkast, so don't think I'm going to hate on them in anyway. When I first bought this album "Big Boi and Dre Present...Outkast" I was hoping to be remembered of the good times when I was a child listening to such albums as Southernplasticmuzik and ATLiens. Well, for the most part I got what I paid for. But here is the question: Why is it that most [rap] albums that try to showcase greatest hits, they don't put all of them on there? Looking through the albums that I'm pretty sure were hits are not on there. From the look of this compilation the gotten the correct hits from one out of the four albums that were released (Stankonia, 2000). It seems that they took the wront tracks from Aquemini (1998), not enough from ATLiens (1996), and did a decent job with Southernplayasticmuzik (1994). But I don't blame Andre and Big Boi for this fault, I should point the finger at Mr. Antonio "L.A." Reid for this shortcommings. Don't get me wrong, most of the tracks on this are nice, but it could have been better.
This is what I expect a greatest hits album to be:
From Southernplayaisicmuzik (1994):
1. Southernplayaisicmuzik
2. Git Up, Git Out (I don't mind it being the radio edit)
3. Player's Ball (the video reprise, the beat sounds so much better than the origonal)
4. Aint No Thang
From ATLiens (1996):
1. ATLiens
2. Elevators (Me & You)
3. Jazzy Belle (remix with the sung hook)
From Aquemini (1998):
1. Rosa Parks
2. Spottieottiedopalicious
3. Skew It On The Bar B
4. The Art Of Storytellin' (Part 3 with Slick Rick)
From Stankonia (2000):
1. So Fresh, So Clean
2. Ms. Jackson
3. B.O.B.
From some soundtracks:
1. Benz Or Beemer (NJ Drive Sndtrk)
2. Neck Ov Da Woods (The Wood Sndtrk)
As for the new tracks, I don't mind "Funkin' Around" and "The Whole World" to be on here, but the album could have done without "Moovin Cool" for could have been saved for "The Love Below" album.
Basically what I'm saying is that if people are going to make a greatest hits album, they need to put all of them on here, not just some here and there. But I recommend this to ALL Outkast fans, despite the shortcommings.
Lyrics: A
Production: A-
Musical Vibes: A
Overall: A (5 stars for the songs they are; 3.5 stars for it to be a "greatest hits" album, so 4 stars total)
Standout tracks: Funkin Around, Rosa Parks, Southernplayasticmuzik, Player's Ball, Git Up Git Out
Outkast=Best Duo Ever!!!.......2005-10-23
I'm like most Outkast fans. I jumped on the bandwagon once this cd came out. I had heard of them before this cd came out when I used to go to my friends house and his brother would be jamming to Stankonia. But anyways this cd is made of the "best" Outkast songs from their first 3 cds. Hardcore fans will argue that they are missing a few songs here or there but everyone knows a "best of" cd is gona be missing some peoples favorite songs.
1.Intro-hilarious, nuff said(5/5)
2.Funkin' Around-new song with a funky beat(5/5)
3.Aint No Thang-okay song-(3/5)
4.So Fresh, So Clean-probably most recognizable and popular Outkast song(5/5)
5.Rosa Parks-underrated song to me(5/5)
6.The Whole World-great single with a great hook(5/5)
7.Aquemini-another ok song from an older album (3/5)
8.B.O.B.-my favorite song off the cd. exciting, energetic beat with very catchy hook(5/5)
9.Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik-from first cd(4/5)
10.Crumblin' Erb-i like the bongos in the background or whatever they are(4/5)
11.Ms. Jackson-2nd most poular single and another great song(5/5)
12.Player's Ball (Original)-classic(5/5)
13.Elevators (Me and You)-another different beat with a wierd hook(4/5)
14.Spottieottiedopaliscious-great slow song to jam to(5/5)
15.Git Up, Git Out-good song with positive lyrics(4/5)
16.Movin' Cool (The After Party)-another different beat and something you wouldn't expect from the old Outkast.(4/5)

Big Boi Presents...Got Purp? Vol. II (Virgin, 2005)
In between the making of the Idlewild movie and soundtrack/album, OutKast's Big Boi was working on his new Purple Ribbon label (actually, it's the new name of Aquemini Records). Got That Purp was the first mixtape album (good luck trying to find it) and this, Got Purp?, is the second.
Is André 3000 on here? Take a listen to "Dungeon Family Dedication" by Killer Mike: "All I know is Big here/Dré gone, moved on..." Is he not on the album or not in OutKast anymore? Well, we all know the answer to that seeing that OutKast is together promoting Idlewild but back then, something must have been going on with them behind the scenes. Mike goes on to reminiscing on the good ol' days in the DF over the "Aquemini" instrumental while giving props to all of the old fam like Goodie MOb, Witchdoctor, and Big Rube. It's not the best way to kick off an album showcasing new talent because now we're stuck with having to compare them to the older artists.
Fortunately, the new talent holds their ground for the most part. Janelle Monáe isn't the best singer in the world but "Lettin' Go" shows some promise (she should have left Debarge's "Time Will Reveal" alone, though). Scar also does well singing with seasoned vet Cee-Lo on "What is This?" and on his own "U Got Me". The better-known artists drop some heat as well: Bubba Sparxxx's "Claremont Lounge" and Sleepy Brown's "Me, My Baby and My Cadillac" were so good that they also appear on their own albums from this year. Also, it's true that the Goodie MOb got back together but "Hold On" shouldn't be proof: this song is actually from 1995. If you remember OutKast's "Benz or Beamer" from the same year, André said, "Keep on holding on like Goodie Mo'."
To answer the question from earlier, Dré ain't on here but Big Boi isn't on here much, either. This is really an outlet for all of Big's artists. And while none of the songs are really groundbreaking, they do show a sign of things to come. Janelle and Scar already made a big splash on the Idlewild album. -EJR
3-1/2 stars -- Was there even a volume ONE?.......2006-08-28
Since OutKast's album Idlewild seemed like it was never going to come out (although now that it IS out, it's getting very heavily mixed reviews), I guess Big Boi had some extra free time to fill. So he got together a bunch of artists (some from his label, some not) and called them the Purple Ribbon All-Stars, who helped him deliver the compilation Got Purp Vol. II.
One surprising thing, though, is that many of the artists on here won't ring a bell to most. I mean, there's nothing wrong with showcasing new talent, but Purple Ribbon Records used to be called Aquemini Records, so you'd expect to find a lot of Dungeon Family-related songs (in Killer Mike's "Dungeon Family Dedication", he asks, "Where that Backbone album at?" which is odd, considering Backbone isn't even on the album). Big Boi himself is hardly even on here; rapping or producing, but the few songs he IS on are pretty solid, like "U Got Me" (with singer Scar) and, of course, "Kryptonite (I'm On It)".
Another highlight is Sleepy Brown's "Me, My Baby and My Cadillac". Also good is Goodie Mob's "Hold On", but what a lot of people don't realize is that it's not the entire Mob reunited; that song is actually from 1995 (it kind of makes me wonder how new that Scar and Cee-Lo song "What Is This" is). But then come a few songs that aren't so memorable. Janelle Monáe's vocals are pretty okay (and that club remix of DeBarge's "Time Will Reveal" should have never happened), and Konkrete's "Ish Ya Drawers" is sorry.
There are also a few cameos that work backwards: whereas Bun-B can't even save "808", Cool Breeze actually outshines Killer Mike and Bubba Sparxxx on "Claremont Lounge" (which is the point where Bubba started to make questionable choruses -- "Ms. Fat Booty", anyone?). The outro also has some singing by someone that sounds like he needs some Pepto-Bismol. Got Purp Vol. II isn't exactly the greatest of compilations, but if you already own everything OutKast/Dungeon Family related, it wouldn't hurt to pick it up.

Weird.......2006-04-22
When I heard the song Kryptonite back in 2005, I just knew I had to get that Cd. when I heard the song, I didnt know a thing about Big boi or any of the other guys( except for Killer Mike). This Cd pissed me off, there was way too many interludes and I didnt hear the kind of stuff I was looking for. With all that extra stuff on the CD, its kinda hard to figure out what track your on, and the worst part is, the Cd is PROTECTED, m,eaning you cant put it on itunes or any of that other stuff. There were very few tracks I liked on the CD.
Dungeon family dedication 5/5
Kryptonite 5/5
Me, My baby and my cadillac 1/5
Body Rock 3/5
My Chrome 5/5
U got me 1/5
Clearmont lounge 5/5
Time will reveal 1/5
Hold on 4/5
808 3/5
What is this 5/5
[...] ya drawers 2/5
Lettin go 1/5
Lovin this 2/5
The rest of the songs are stupid interludes, Lil Jon dosent even put that many skits on his CDs! JUst download the songs on itunes (if u can)
Dunno bout got purp? but it got 3 stars from me...........2006-04-10
I'm not a big Big Boi or Outkast fan at all, but the only reason i got this cd was for "Kryptonite"... and while listening to the cd i found a song that is better then "Kryptonite", called "Claremont Lounge"... That's a really good song, and as a DJ i would love to mix that or blend it... i'd be able to do alot w/ it... Another stand out song would be "Hold On" w/ Goodie Mob.
Wish i could have heard Bubba Sparxxx on more tracks... The cd is good, but don't spend over $12 or $13 on this one... I'm glad i got the cd for free thru my music club...me personally, i wouldn't pay more then maybe $7 for it myself..
Camilyan Report.......2006-03-23
Big Boi has been in the game for over 10 years and within that time he has garnered much respect and creditability. The reputation that he has managed to acquire has elevated him to a Hip-Hop legend. Like all Hip-Hop legends he has extended his range of talent to producer, producing his latest album Got Purp? Vol. 2.
"Kryptonite" is the first single and serves many purposes, an infectious beat, and a reintroduction to Killer Mike, as well as showcase of recruits BlackOwned C-Bone and Rock D. He manages to get a reunion of Goodie Mob and Cee-Lo in "Hold On"; it is the group's hottest track since "Rebuilding," Track 9 from World Party. "Me, My Baby, and My Cadillac" is a hot track featuring the classic sound of Sleepy Brown. He adds R&B newcomers Janelle Monae and Scar, which only enhances to his wide-ranging offerings of music.
This is excellent work by Big Boi, producing an album that has a reminiscent vibe but yet very fresh. Got Purp? Vol. 2 is a perfect compilation disc packed with a roster (Goodie Mob, Bubba Sparxx, Killer Mike and many others) that matches his proficiency. The album has a nice diverse sound much like Big Boi's eclectic resonance.

Not perfect..........2005-07-18
...but when it comes down to it all, you can't go wrong with an Outkast greatest hits album.
At the time this album was released in 2001, Outkast just came off a string of hits, and a multi-platinum album - simply put, Outkast had just pushed themselves into the mainstream. I think the purpose of this album was to act as a refresher course for fans who had just jumped onto the Outkast bandwagon in 2000-01 when Stankonia was released.
Obviously, this album won't have their most recent hits such as "The Way You Move", "Hey Ya", and "Roses", but it does include mega hits such as "B.O.B.", "So Fresh, So Clean", and the timeless #1 hit, "Ms. Jackson". Also, this album does a great job of including some of Outkast's older (and better) material. The signature Outkast flows on "Elevators", the spoken word funk of "Spottieottiedopaliscious", the up-beat joint "Rosa Parks", and the single that started it all, all, "Player's Ball" are all on here too, without question.
Even some of Outkast's older standout non-singles, such as "Crumblin' Erb", the grimey, the Dirty South sound of "Ain't No Thang" and the epic "Aquemini" are present too, along with arguably what is Outkast's best track ever, "Git Up, Git Out" with Goodie Mob.
Of course, like any greatest hits or best of album, there's a small problem with the track selection. Some of Outkast's greatest tracks, such as "Hootie Hoo", "D.E.E.P.", "Two Dope Boys", "Jazzy Belle" and "Skew it on the Bar-B" are all nowhere to be found, and most questionably, "ATLiens", "13th Floor/Growing Old" and "Da Art Of Storytellin' pt. 1" are all missing in action as well. Also, the new material on here, "Funkin' Around", "Movin' Cool" and "The Whole World" is just decent.
All things aside, you can't go wrong with an Outkast greatest hits album. They are, and continue to be one of rap's most innovative groups, always coming out with a new sound while staying true to their roots. I recommend this to anyone who jumped on the Outkast bandwagon with Speakerboxx/The Love Below, just to see the type of brilliant music you were missing.
outkast never ceases to amaze me........2002-08-07
Yes I accidentally bought a clean cd. Don't ask. The point? Outkast doesn't need swears to distract the audience, like some other rappers* cough cough, ja rule * Rather, their beats and music are just superb. I've heard so many styles jam packed from over the years w/ them and what better way to do it then with this collection! I really love "Player's Ball"...their first hit. Some of the slower songs are kind of boring but the faster-paced ones really compensate... "B.O.B." wasn't what put them in mainstream terrirtory, even though it is still ag reat song. "Ms Jackson" however was the song that put them in mainstream territory, and also helped start the new pop hip hop trend. Who cant resist tappin their foot to the rodeo-inspired "Rosa Parks" or gettin down to the beats and lyrics of "So Fresh So Clean." In a world of depressing, cookie-cutter world of rap music that uses swears to coverup weak raps (Murder inc), Oukast really is a break from that. They're different, and always willing to stand out for the crowd, even if it does mean dying your hair white and wearing multi-colored velvet suits on stage. If you're a *real* hip hop fan then your collection will not be complete without "Big Boi and Dre Present...Outkast." A must own, an recieves an A+ rating from me.
GREAT CD.......2002-04-11
THIS CD REMINDS ME OF 70'S FUNK STYLE MUSIC-I LOVE THE BEATS-I'M A 70'S MUSIC LOVER-ESPECIALLY OLD FUNK, FUNK MUSIC-BOOTSY, PARLIAMENT/FUNKADELIC,CAMEO-YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN-THESE GUYS WHILE NOT THE BEST RAPPERS I HAVE EVER HEARD HAVE A AMAZING KNACK FOR MAKING SOME JAMMIN MUSIC-
Great Album(even if it is edited).......2002-03-22
When I first got this I was'nt sure if it was gonna be too great, even though Outkast is one of my favorite groups. I was wrong. There are some really great songs on this c.d., and I'm not finished listening to all of them yet. Some of the really good tracks are: The Whole World, So fresh, so clean, and Ain't no thang(I don't recommend playing this one near your parents, even if it is edited). I really recommend this c.d. for anyone who enjoys rap, and can't get the unedited version.
best cd ever.......2002-03-07
This cd is sweet all their cds are great but this one is the best because it combines all their greatest hits like rosa parks,
B.O.B., ms.jackson, and the whole world A MUST BUY CD!!!!!

A great single.......2005-05-01
Brooke is a very different kind of pill to swallow when you taste "Chain Letter".
Thrill Of The Chase (10/10) - With a rock edge, brooke breaks it down how she likes this guy, but likes her freedom more. VERY GOOD!
Girlfight, Pt. II (10/10) - To be honest, I like this version better than the Lil' Jon version more. It classical, hip-hop, and crunk all at the same time.

Album Details
The Time is Right for the Naughty Looking 19-year-old Native of Houston, Called Brooke Valentine. Her Artistry Distinguishes her from the Industry's Current Herd of Wannabe R&b/Pop Phenoms. This Chanteuse Doesn't Adhere to Conformity and Defines her Music Freely. Her First Single 'girlfight' is Taken from her Debut Album `chain Letter'. Her Journey Begins with the `rhythm and Crunk' Party-starter 'girlfight'.
