The sequel to 2002's Verve Remixed follows and improves upon the original's formula; take material from the storied vaults at Verve Records and let top DJs of the modern era have at them. Featuring an impressive roster of dance artists like Miguel Migs, Koop, and Fila Brazillia, the trick is matching DJ with jazz standard in a way that compliments both. It's a tough chore, given the classics involved and the need to do them justice. On Sarah Vaughan's "Whatever Lola Wants," Gotan Project manage the task with distinction, filtering rustic and romantic accordions through the song's lusty machinations. Astute choices are required, like Mondo Grosso's decision to build a solid thump out of just the central melody of Archie Shepp's "Blues For Brother George Jackson." Sometimes, the best thing to do is get out of the way; Mr. Scruff's Soul Party Mix of "Do What You Wanna" only adds some background party noise to Ramsey Lewis' ripping keyboard solo. VR2 doesn't hit the mark every time, but the combinations that work accomplish what only the best dance music does--they crumble the walls between genres and encourage us all to get down together. --Matthew Cooke
Customer Reviews:
Five stars for one song.......2007-07-04
this CD is hit or miss. Mostly miss for me. However there is a big but in here. Big enough to give it five stars. If you are an Ella fan you have to part with the cash to hear what has been done with Slap that Bass. That one song is worth the price of admission
Volume 2.......2007-04-10
The first "Verve/Remixed" focused on Divas, mostly those of the Jazz genre. This disc deviates from that enjoyable formula by expanding to female pop singers, male vocalists, and instrumentalists.
VERVE/REMIXED 2 consists of 14 newly remixed songs. Disc packaged in clear jewel case; total running time: 72:08. Booklet does not include information about the original recordings (not even songwriting credits).
There are once again two remixes of Nina Simone recordings. There are also two Ella Fitzgerald recordings remixed. Several instrumental tracks are remixed - I don't get the point of that, but they are included here.
This sequel is not nearly as good as the original.
THE Verve.......2007-02-07
overall great album, my favorite of the series...
just the right tempo and selection of artists make this a perfect album for a chillout but up-beat enough session without falling asleep
Another good package.......2005-12-21
This is the second remixed CD from the Verve Remixed series. These tracks are still well mixed but I do find a few tracks which are quite noisy (a bit over-the-top). Still, I think there are enough good dance tracks to keep this CD in your stereo for sometime. If you are asking for more, then try getting the 'Complete Verve Remixed Box-Set' which comes in a package of four (3 + 1) CDs.
Yes!.......2005-11-06
So I don't listen to this kind of music very often, and I apologise if I'm being naiive or ignorant, but this is an extremely good CD. The first 5 songs are some of the best music I've heard in a long time, and I will definitely be picking up Remixed 3 after hearing this.

It's the rarest of live albums whose songs add anything to the majesty of the original studio recordings. This one adds immeasurable data to the Velvet's story. Without 1969: Live we might never have known that they were more than just an art outfit, that they could actually rock with fury. Check out Reed's strumming on "What Goes On" if you want to have your mind blown. None of these staples of the V.U. catalog can be truly known without hearing these fully formed, fleshed-out versions, so for history's sake alone we must treasure this. History's tragedy of course is that we get to hear the excruciatingly light applause--it sounds like there's only 10 people in the room at some points--after each course in ass kicking. They were wrongly under-appreciated in their time, and for this we must all pay forever by playing this record constantly. --Gene Booth
Customer Reviews:
it's really lovely.......2006-02-27
This LP in it's original Double-album form was one my favorites of the era (the early seventies being a little sparse and sometimes unoriginal), but when the CD's came out, they split the thing into 2 separate discs. So this one has lots of dreamy, drug induced pop ("pale blue eyes', "I'll be your Mirror') , and some atmospherics ('Ocean')as well as the classics ("Heroin, White Light/White Heat').
Good for fans, good for people who liked their studio stuff, also.
Amazing........2005-01-17
Basically, if you're into the vu, you'll be into them live. There's almost no other way of looking at it. Their live performances are the most innate I've ever heard. So, if you're having some sort of dilemma regarding which live albums to spend your hard earned currency on, here's a suggestion: 1969: The Velvet Underground Live Vol.'s 1 & 2, Live at MKC, and the Quine Tapes. Those are the best live performances I've heard from the band. My personal favorite is the 1969: The VU Live Volume 1, but it's all personal preference.
I suppose I've gone off on a bit of a tangent - forgetting this was a review for 1969 Vol. 2. Well, the album is amazing. You're really doing yourself an injustice by not buying it. Trust me, the technicalities don't need to be described: just buy it, listen to it, and be inspired by it.
No collection is complete without it.......2003-05-09
The version of "Ocean" on this album is mind-blowing. You have to buy the CDs just for that. The rest of the Vol. 2 CD is excellent, as is Vol. 1, but that recording of "Ocean"...oh, it's impossible to do any justice to it here.
THE BEST Velvets Album.......2003-04-30
This is one of the rare cases when volume 2 is better than the first. Of course, it would be best to buy both but if you have to pick one, pick this volume.
This is the album that made me really appreciate the Velvets. I love live music and this album really captures the band as they were meant to be heard -- Jamming, Moody, Rock and Roll. The first 3 songs especially (Ocean, Pale Blue Eyes, and Heroin) have reverberated in my musical memory for a very long time.
A GREAT FIRST VU ALBUM! If you know the Velvets or even just think you might like them, you can't go wrong with these live concerts.
If you have the 1st one you must get this...or vice versa.......2003-04-28
Volume 2 picks up where the first one leaves off, opening with a ten minute version of OCEAN, complete with Crashing waves of cymbals. This also has rare gems you cant find anywhere else like the short but sweet OVER YOU, and the 50's rockabilly, speed freak sounding combo of SWEET BONNIE BROWN/IT'S JUST TOO MUCH.
Then there is the extended noise drone of WHITE LIGHT/WHITE HEAT.
Just more evidence that the VU were a real loose dirty rock band who were more at home playing in dive bars than the early Warhol era trendy art crowd.

Album Description
The incredible DJ Jazzy Jeff presents the second installment of one of the best loved hip hop compilations of all time. The legendary first volume of Hip Hop Forever was mixed by Kenny Dope of Masters At Work fame and now DJ Jazzy Jeff is set to raise the bar with his star-studded collection. Classic hip hop, hard to find jams and new favorites are all represented and mixed as only DJ Jazzy Jeff can. Hip Hop Forever has commanded respect from hip hop heads old and new, the series' UK launch party in 1998 was hosted by hip hop legends Marley Marl and Pete Rock.
After releasing his amazing artist album The Magnificent in 2002, it was inevitable that we would present to the world DJ Jazzy Jeff's first official mix CD. Those of you who saw DJ Premier, Grandmaster Flash, Kid Capri and DJ Jazzy Jeff's tribute to Jam Master Jay at the BET awards last year will remember how Jeff received a standing ovation. It is this uncanny ability to move a crowd coupled with unprecedented turntable wizardry that is captured on volume two of Hip Hop Forever.
For the collectors, this very special installation of Hip Hop Forever will be available as a mixed full-length CD as well as in limited edition, un-mixed 2xCD. Regardless of which format you choose, sit back and enjoy a fine mix by possible the greatest hip hop DJ of all time. A great mix of old, new, classic and fine obscurities from artists including: Nas, Raekwon, Cypress Hill, Pete Rock, Gang Starr, A Tribe Called Quest and Jaylib.

I was completely thrown off gaurd by this album.Who would of thought that the Fresh Princes dj could put together a sick album like this. The man can dj people. The line up is sick and the cutting is above par. This is an official mixtape. This is not a compilation people.Peep the samples of the tracks he used.Check out his execution on the tables.Albums tight.Cop it
The Foundation!!!.......2006-04-01
If you are new to hip hop music or just wanting a great hip hop compilation, this LP is highly recommended. These are essential artists/songs to check out. Especially, when ya have one of the illest DJ's mixin' & chopin' it up.
That Raw Boom Bap (4.5 Stars).......2005-07-27
Jazzy Jeff has long been my favorite DJ. I've been following his work since '86 and it does my heart good to hear cats like Jeff still tearing it up. The tracks all range from the early to mid 90's and includes various bangers and some of them are pretty obscure like the "Can't Stop The Prophet" Pete Rock remix or O.C's classic "Times Up". I really don't have to go into much detail. Just look at the track listing, it speaks for itself. You already know how Jeff flawlessly blends tracks, so the rest is a no brainer.
The only flaw (if you can call it that) I could find on the album was the fact that some of the songs were censored (like "Made U Look"). It was a small distraction, but a distraction nevertheless.
Hip Hop Forever Vol. II is more than worth owning. If you haven't heard it by now, quit cheating yourself and buy it. Jeff has been my favorite since day 1 and he has yet to let me down.
Standout Tracks: Electric Relaxation, How Many Emcees (My Favorite), Times Up, Buck 'Em Down (Beatminerz Remix), Braggin' Writes, Made U Look, Square One, Can't Stop The Prophet (Pete Rock Remix), Live At The BBQ, and Words I Manifest
True Turntabling.......2005-05-09
Excellent comp from J the man who invented transformer scratching. As well as a first class line up the mixing in this is second to none. Never heard scrathing this mad on a CD.
The man deserves twice as much acclaim compared to Will Smith as he isnt a sell out and keeps it real.
By this CD and get educated!!!!
Only the Philly Heads Would Understand.............2005-05-06
Once again....Jazzy Jeff has proved he is the best Hip Hop DJ in the world. From listening to this CD to seeing a live set in Philly, he educates a crowd like knowone else.

Finally...decent music!!!!.......2007-05-20
Hi-Tek finally comes back with some heavy hitters. Hot songs for your ears to enjoy!!!
Absolutely amazing. Extremely diverse........2007-04-27
What a great collection of hits. This is my first HI-TEK CD, so I have nothing to compare it to. There are so many good tracks on this cd and each one has its own feel and originality. Josephine is a stand out track as well as many others. BUY IT.
Stay Up On Your Teknology.......2007-04-20
I am gonna keep it short and sweet. You need to get this CD in your rotation because when you start hearing other CDs compared to this you will start to appreciate the diversity and depth of the tracks. Hi Tek keeps the beats fresh and the guests bring lyrical firepower.
Top 5 tracks:
-"Keep it Moving" feat. Q-tip, Kurupt, & Dion
-"Jospehine" feat. Willie Cottrell Band, Ghostface Killah & Pretty Ugly
-"Where it Started At" feat. Dion, Jadakiss, Papoose, Talib Kweli & Raekwon
-"Let it Go" feat. Dion & Talib Kweli
-"Music" feat. J. Dilla, Nas, Common, Busta Rhymes & Marsha Ambrosius
Don't get caught without it!!!
Hi-Tek Falls short of previous CD.......2007-04-05
Hi-Tek one of the hot producers out there, falls a little short on this colaboration. Most of the beats are hot and the production is decent overall but the overall experience lacks that hard-hitting hip-hop feel from the 1st CD. Takes a while to grow on you. Too many slow jams.
Keep it movin' ! .......2007-01-10
Hi-tek hit it out the ballpark with this one baby! Production is insane and amazingly he matches all the guest appearances with the right beat, favourite song would have to be "Josephene" with Ghostface who is extremely on point with his verses! Definetly one of the better releases of the year...

Doesn't get any better than this.......2006-05-21
I have been searching for sky high quality old soul romantic records of this genre and at last I have found it in this series of oldies. I listened to this CD together with volumes 1 and 3 with disbelief as these are the finest of the finest. I encourage all old soul connoisseurs to buy these vols 1-3, and I will let you know how I get on with vols 4 - 10. Trust me, you will feel like you're in paradise!!!
A closer look at the soul ballad's more obscure side........2003-09-14
This CD (like its excellent predecessor "Underground Oldies Vol. 1") spotlights rare and obscure soul ballads that did not make much chart noise but that are nonetheless simply beautiful. The songs by The Ambassadors, The Green Berets, The Lovelites, The Royal Five and Exsaveyons are fine examples of "Sweet Soul" at its rarest but the (mostly-unknown) songs by such legends as Billy Stewart, Gene Chandler and Bloodstone should not be overlooked, either. Many thanks to Alan Beck at ITP Records for issuing such a unique compilation.
What A Surprise!.......2001-07-17
I purchased this CD for Billy Stewart's "I'm No Romeo" which I heard him sing at a concert in the early '70's. I have been searching for this song for quite a while. It was the only song I knew on this CD and what a surprise - I enjoyed every other song. I have since played this CD several times and it has become one of my favorites. The ballads flow beautifully. I certainly got my money's worth.

Hands folded across the chest. Relaxed but ready for action. Fantastic Volume 2 captures Slum Village's swellegant b-boy stance on record. The Detroit crew's long-awaited debut is loaded with muscular, simmering beats. By turns relaxing and stimulating, it further establishes producer Jay Dee (known for his board work for De La Soul, Q-Tip, Common, and more) as a production force. His thick, red-blooded rhythms range from the crunchy, organic drums on "I Don't Know," punctuated with sly James Brown vocal samples, to the percolating, bass-laced "Get Dis Money." Though they're drowning in underground accolades, Slum Village aren't intellectual navel-gazers or lyrical geniuses. Rappers Baatin, T3, and Jay Dee use their quirky vocal chemistry to illuminate the lush rhythms. They want you to shake your ass to their music--they even provide instructions. --Lizz Mendez Berry

Don't let the title fool you, this is the long awaited debut CD from Slum Village, featuring Q-Tip, D'Angelo, Busta Rhymes, Kurupt, Pete Rock and Jazzy Jeff. 19 smooth tracks with some funky old school grooves and slick rhymes, similar to The Roots, Digital Underground and A Tribe Called Quest. 20 tracks. 2000 release.
Customer Reviews:
J-Dilla's Rise (Rating: 8 out of 10- -4.0 stars).......2007-05-14
Slum Villages album "Fantastic Vol. 2" was slated for a 1998 release, but never saw the light of day until 2000. For me, the standout on this album is J Dee's production. Most of the beats here are fantastic themselves. I find some of the best beats on the album are on songs such as "I Don't Know" that features Jazzy Jeff scratching at the end of the song, and "Hold Tight" feauring Q-Tip with the help of D'Angelo's piano. The production is easy to vibe to and more than likely gurantee to nod your head.
That being said, what weighs this album down is the most obvious lack of rhyme skill. Seriously, these guys borderline wack. As one reviewer stated, the obvious is that they rhyme about materialistic things (i.e. money, women). A lot of people don't seem to realize that, because the production overshadows their bad rhymes. Heck anybody can sound good if they can flow smoothly over the the correct production. And that is what Slum Village does. Just listen to "Get Dis Money" & "Raise It Up" if you want examples of wack rhymes being spit smoothly over dope beats. Not to mention they are easily outshined by the guest appearances. Well people like Kurupt and Common back then I can see, but even Pete Rock outshines them on "Once Upon A Time". Thats probably the best verse I've ever heard from Pete, not to mention that the beat for that song is dope. People are giving this album all kinds of accolades, when the lyrics are barely average. If J Dee didn't produce this album, this would have easily been a 2.5 star album.
Overall, "Fantasic Vol. 2" is a good album, mainly because of the production. If you can, I recommend you search for the instrumentals for this LP. It's a shame Slum Village wouldn't capture the same vibe on their later album as they did on this one (and probably never now due to J Dilla passing). More than likely, if you're a fan of groups like A Tribe Called Quest and The Roots, you'll more than likely like this album. I recommend that you add this to your collection. This was also reissued in 2004 which is also available on Amazon. Peace.

hey yo!!.......2006-06-11
this has always been one of my favourite hip hop albums of all time!!. i'm not a die-hard hip hop listener, but being a neo soul junkie at heart, i can appreciate the production!!... the beats are HEAVY!! (J.D rest in peace).. the boy can produce!! off topic, i heard a Steve Spacek tune a couple of months ago, that JD produced. its called 'Dollars'... oh my gash, wot a tune!! the production makes it!!
anywayz, absolutely luv this album. its hard to pick favourites, cos its all great but the songs that stand out 4 me are:
1. 'players' - luv the smooth, almost eerie sound, and that beat is mmmmm bumping!! jus wicked!
2. 'i dont know' - brings me back to my funk days! :) briliant..
3. 'jealousy' - that BEAT!! theres jazz, soul, hip hop all mixed up in there.. ingenius..
4. 'get dis money' - its the beat again lol. that b line!.. its banging!!.. luv that eerie, 'star trek' lol kinda sound in the background... just mmmmm :) its a great contrast to the b line :)
5. '2U4U' - nice sound :).. luv the 'jumpy-ness'.. different, but thats y i like it ;) it WORKS!!
6. 'Tell me' - wen i heard a sample of this, i thought D'ANGELO!!. Then wen i heard the whole song, i realised he sung on it lol... nice neo soul sound. i've gotta like it :)....
Anyway man, jus go and buy it innit lol.. i had it, since it came out, but if u dont know yet, get 2 know!!!... Better late than never!!! it has a timeless sound anyway :)
Open Your Minds People!!.......2006-03-13
You're going to read a lot of reviews about this album that talk about Slum Village's lack of lyrical ability but that the beats are so hot that you should get the album anyway. Only the latter part of that statement is true. I've been listening to hip hop since the seventies, when rappers had to beg djs to get on the mic. When the groove was what it was all about. When the hottest rhymes around were, "hip hop, a hippy to the hippy, say up jumps the boogie..." You get my drift.
Only the trained ear can hear what Slum Village is all about lyrically on this album. SV has discarded the overdone and almost pre-requisite lyrical bravado that began dominating hip hop in 1987 and has brought something more interesting to the table...VIBE!! Today's hip hop fans are so conditioned to judge by lyrical ability that anything different falls short of their expectations.
Let me tell you something, if you like, Low End Theory by ATCQ, you will love this album. The reason I chose Tribe as my example is that, by no means could you call Phife or Q-Tip lyrical geniuses. And no, I won't bother with a comparison between the 2 groups. In my opinion they are both about the same thing...Vibe!!! Why else did Q-Tip use Jay Dee (SV's Producer/Rapper) to produce songs on Tribes last 2 albums as well as almost every song on his solo album?
Slum Village is about vibe. The lyrics match the tracks perfectly. So well do they match in fact, that you couldn't even hear any of your favorite mainstream lyrical gods on any of these tracks. It just wouldn't sound right. Do yourself a favor. Try to put your conditioning away, pop this album in and then try to go a month without listening to it. This, ladies and gentlemen, is one of the top ten hip hop albums of all time. And I say this, having a lot more material to survey than most.
Among my top 3 favorite hip hop albums.......2006-02-24
I have a hard time saying this is one of the top hip hop albums ever because the lyrics are somewhat iffy, but their delivery along with the beats is some of the best-produced hip hop I've ever heard. Every track is strong, and it is hardly repetitive. A very unique sound from one of hip hop's best producers (RIP Jay Dee). Also, SV changed members around after this album so hear Slum Village in their original (and in my opinion, brilliant) form.
Satisfying, juicy beats, weak rhymes..........2006-01-27
This is one of the more musical hip hop albums out there; production by the legendary Jay Dee makes this an awesome aural experience. Throughout almost every song, there is a tasty groove, making this something you'll want to listen to all the way through. But the rhymes failed to inspire me. First off, there is nothing new here content wise, the same old egotistical BS, money, objectifying women, the whole standard regiment of material. Being a hip hop fan, I can look past this and consider other things, like rhythm, flow, all that stuff. Slum Village failed me on this as well. None of the members are particularly standout rappers, which really hurts the album. Still, the beats are SO good that Fantastic Vol. II is still worth picking up despite this rather major shortcoming. I mean, these beats are extremely good, some of the best I've ever heard in hip hop. To hear the combination of ultra sweet beats and quality rapping, make sure to get Common - "Like Water For Chocolate." Best rap album ever, no question.

The best mixtape of the year.......2006-11-29
Dead Prez keeps the gems coming on this second mixtape Get Free Or Die Trying. While these other guys' mixtapes are all about guns, drugs and whose breath smells like badunkadunk, Dead Prez continues to give you socially and politically conscious rhymes. Standout Tracks: F*** THE LAW, COMING OF AGE, TALLAHASSEE DAYS, SCARED TO DIE(free Askari X), BABYFACE(dude killed it!), WHEN MAMMA CRIES, WINDOW TO MY SOUL(Stic dedicates this one to his dope fiend brother), LAST DAYS RELOADED(killer collabo with Onyx), REAL BLACK GIRL(the beat is hypnotizing)and O.G.(Original Garvey). Filler: Out in the world(sounds like circus music)and Paper Paper(too short to be enjoyed). Bottom Line: Get Free Or Die Trying is a great follow up to Turn Off The Radio. Unlike the first one they dont borrow anybody's beat they use their own beats plus the production is tight. I strongly recommend this mixtape for anybody who wants a break from the norm.
Dead Prez- Turn Off The Radio: The Mixtape, Vol. 2: Get Free or Die Tryin'.......2006-08-13
Having bought both of Dead Prez (Stic.Man, M-1) album's "Lets Get Free" & "RBG: Revolutionary But Gangsta", and enjoyed M-1's solo album " Dead Prez Presents M-1: Confidential" and their latest mixtape collaboration with the Outlawz "Can't Sell Dope Forever", I checked out their second official mixtape release "Turn Off The Radio: The Mixtape, Vol. 2: Get Free Or Die Tryin'" (2003). After the intro Dead Prez start the album off with a banger in "F*** The Law". They then change things up providing a memorable and laidback joint in "Coming Of Age", Stic.Man delivers a outstanding chorus, and the duo recall days past. After two short track's Dead Prez deliver a solid cut with "Scared to Die". Dead Prez shines again when telling tragic and deep tales on the sad "When Mama Cries". Dead Prez then tag team "Last Days Reloaded" with Onyx providing a grimy cut. Other track's that follow are not so memorable- more experimental with very little production. "Turn Off The Radio: The Mixtape, Vol. 2: Get Free Or Die Tryin'" is a solid Mixtape. Dead Prez in my opinion are one of the best current group's in the Rap game, delivering substantial hard hitting music in an industry full of one hit wonders. I am looking forward to Dead Prez next release and hope that Stic.Man decides to do a solo album.
Revolutionary Disciples.......2006-04-18

This is a revolutionary hip hop classic. Definately one for your collection. Not since Public Ememy have we had true crusaders on the mike to spit truth & reality. Go Get This Mixtape.

As the home of Black Star and Company Flow, Rawkus has made a name for itself as the label for any late-1990s discerning hip-hop fan. But DJs have come to know Rawkus as the home of some of the underground's best singles--tracks that were available only on vinyl until the label started the Soundbombing series. Soundbombing II opens with Beat Junkies J-Rocc and Babu working their magic on Eminem's "Any Man"--and while it's a strong track from the wack-minded MC, it's clear that the men behind the wheels of steel are hosting this party. That's not to imply that the MCs aren't doing their part--Mos Def is the best part of a great track on "B-Boy Document"; his partner in Black Star, Talib Kweli, busts out with his other crew, Reflection Eternal, and the sultry-voiced Bahamadia on "Chaos"; Medina Green displays a nice flow on "Crosstown Beef" (produced, incidentally, by De La Soul's Posdanuos); and Dilated Peoples drop their science over minimal backing on "Soundbombing." There's more (from Company Flow, Grand Puba, Sir Menelik, Common, and Sadat X, among others), and it's consistently interesting, if not consistently overwhelming. --Randy Silver

(8 out of 10) Maybe I Reviewed This Too Fast.......2006-06-10
When I first heard this album here, I thought it was a tight compliation and gave this a 5 star rating (10 out of 10)(My older review will remain on the reissue of this album). After about 4 of 5 spins I began to see the flaws in this album. First a lot of the members don't bring their A game behind the mic. For example: On The High And Mighty's "B-Boy Document 99", Mr. Eon gets outshined by the guests on that song, in this case Mos Def, and Mad Skillz. Diamond D on the song "When It Pours, It Rains" doesn't come off as strong as I heard him on his solo albums. Also I like the beat on that song, but unfortunately is short. The thing that makes me angry is that Jon Doe produced the track, and there is a rare 12" version where he rhymes making it a full length song, instead of some minute and something short track.
Okay, enough griping. Now for the good stuff. Other artists do bring their A game though. The most rememberable song is the Eminem "Any Man". Other artists that shine are R.A. The Rugged Man on the song "Stanley Kubrick", Dilated Peoples on the song "Soundbombing", as well as the hit single on this comp, "1-9-9-9" by Common and Sadat X, just to name a few. Other artists that appear on this are Medina Green, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Pharohe Monch, Company Flow, Sir Menelik, Grand Puba, and more. There are many other dope tracks that I recommend that you should check out. If you like compilation albums, then this one is perfect for you.

Once Upon A Time Not Long Ago... [5 Stars].......2006-06-08
There isn't really a whole lot that I can add to the other eviews. Soundbombing is classic material. Point blank. Period. If you're relatively new to rap music and you want to hear what some of your favorites sounded like before they started to slip (like Eminem, Dilated Peoples, High & Mighty, etc...), then get this album. This album is the perfect embodiment of what Rawkus stood for at its peak. Tight beats, dope rhymes, and two top notch DJs [J-Rocc & Babu aka The Bumrush Brothers] scratching and blending every song in an outstanding fashion.
As far as negative aspects, there are none. This album is simply flawless in my humble opinion. Without being too dramatic, I'd have to say that albums like these are simply impossible to recreate (which is why Soundbombing III pales in comparison). Soundbombing II is truly a once in a lifetime experience. Man, I really miss the old Rawkus days.
Like I said man, this album is the perfect representation of what Rawkus in its prime stood for. It simply doesn't get better than this. If you consider yourself a fan of "real" hip hop, then quit reading this review and click the "buy" button A.S.A.P.
Standout Tracks: On Mission, Patriotism, 1-9-9-9, Any Man [My Favorite], Stanley Kubrick, Chaos, Crosstown Beef, B-Boy Document, and Every Time I Write
Best of the Best.......2006-04-30
Really great CD, alot of good artists on it. Little bit of comedy as well. This was when Rawkus was in its prime. If you want a mix CD, this is the first one you should buy. Every song is hot, not one track should be skipped. Even the Eminem song is hot. It's a 5 star album so pick it up.
RAWKUS AT IT'S FINEST..........2005-06-25
Once again, another fine mixtape courtesy of the late Rawkus Records (late because Kweli's the only artist still on). Before rap became permanently commercial, "Soundbombing vol. 2" was released at the highest point of the rap revivalist movement. DJ's J-Rocc and Babu aka the Bumrush Brothers seamlessly blend various 12" releases like they was born with it, also including the clever idea of putting an instrumental (featuring underground legends giving shout-outs) before the actual song, and scratch the mess out of it with other samples. Like any mixtape for the streets, there are no sweet tracks on this album. For the whole spin, this album is rough and rugged (giving you various images of stories and neighborhoods from New York to LA); beats are dusty to the break and the rhymes are top notch. The highlight tracks are the trancendent "1-9-9-9" with Common and Sadat X, July 4th celebration "Next Universe" with Mos Def, a mystic track "Chaos" with Reflection Eternal and Bahamadia, the caper "Crosstown Beef" with Mos' crew Medina Green, the short but gutter "Brooklyn Hard Rock" with Thirstin Howl III, and last but not least, the banger "Every Rhyme I Write" feat Smif-N-Wessun (aka Cocca Brovaz) and Shabaam Sadeeq. Further guest appearances are Grand Puba, Sir Menelik, Pharaohe Monch, Eminem, Skilz, Dialated Peoples, Tash, The High and Mighty, and Company Flow. If you claim you underground (I mean, below the subway underground), cop this. If you love hip-hop in its purest form, COP THIS!!!!!!!
Just plain sick........2005-05-18
Man, if there was any kind of compilation album to get, this is it. They have the World Famous Beat Junkies on the Ones and two's doing a great job, man it felt as if you were listening to a mix show with great underground hip hop. Now the line up, great, if not better than the first ( which the first had an allstar lineup.) Having Eminem spit fire on Any Man over a dope beat was just sick, which was nice to see Slim Shady from his underground days before he put out the wack My Name is. Man, B-Boy document was just plain hot. A line up of Mos Def, Mad Skillz (or now known just as Skillz) team up with High and Mighty was nice. It was nice to see Pharoahe Monch on the mic on Mayor and WW III. Shabaam tore it up on Every Rhyme I Write and WWIII. I loved the Reflection Eternal songs, but since when did Reflection Eternal not come out with good songs. Common and Sadat X came correct on the mic on 1999. The only complaint I had was Diamond D. Man, the beat on When It Pours It Rains was just nice, but Diamond, quotes "The ice on my wrist makes the honey's eye's squint." Or " I want boats and planes, Ice ropes and chains" type of lines was just weird for a pioneer in hip hop to say. I guess his buddy and partner Fat Joe from Diggin in the Crates is getting to him. This same song is in Roc Raida's Crossfadaz cd, titled MC 2 which has the same verses as Soundbombing's but has John Doe trading the mic with Diamond in the Crossfadaz version. I wish they used that version because John Doe's verse was tight and definitely drowned out some of the wack lines Diamond put in. RA kind of turned me off with "We smackin B**ches by the hundreds." in Stanley Kubrick, but hey, that beat was just sick. Those were the only complaints with a strong album that ranges from artists like Eminem to Medina Green to Cocoa B's to the Mighty Mos. Beats are just plain nice, so it goes well with the Soundbombing title. All the lyrics are top notched, minus Ra and Diamond, but they are good mc's so I'm glad they are on this. This is a classic, so anybody that's a real hip hop fan, you need to have this.

Biggie is back again--freestyling like only a dead man can on the intro to this second volume culled from the archives of NYC's Lyricist Lounge. You have to wonder why hip-hop can't let the man rest in peace? Must be something to do with the papers. Same could be said of this record's transparent attempt to keep a franchise alive and help push the Rawkus label further into mainstream consciousness. Aside from the aforementioned intro and Q-Tip's "live" outro, there's precious little evidence that the Lyricist Lounge is, in actuality, a freestyle forum with a monthly live event in New York City. The pairings of established and lesser MCs are suitably uninspired: Big Noyd and Prodigy's "The Grimy Way" and Royce Da 5'9"s "Let's Grow" even sound as if they're retreading 1980s retro-synth soundtracks. And, predictably, Mos Def (Rawkus's would-be prophet and biggest seller) is all over the record. He pairs up first with Ghostface Killah (on the previously released "Ms Fat Booty" remix), then with Pharoahe Monch and Nate Dogg (on "Oh No"), and cameos on the Gang Starr remix of Macy Gray's "I've Committed Murder." It seems that the only people that really get it are Last Emperor and RZA, whose resurrected creature-feature "He Lives" performs radical psychic surgery on this comp's rotting corpse. --Chris Campion

I'm confused about something.......2005-10-19
This is basically adding on to what Adrian said earlier. I have had this CD for years and never noticed this. The back of the CD is not named right. I do understand that there is that He Lives song by RZA and that is track 15, but on the back of the CD it says 15 is Dilated Peoples. The version I have has Still Here and He Lives, but does not have Right and Exact on it.
Solid compilation album.......2005-08-06
A lot more known and accredited rappers are on this one and it makes for a better album from start to finish, but you still get some undergrown less known lyricits on it but not as many as Volume 1. Packed with 18 songs (1 is just a remix with a dfferent beat so it's 17 total songs), it has 2 classics, 1 almost classic, 4 I skip, 2 ok songs, and the others are good or great songs. Production is on point on most tracks as well, and a bunch of different producers get behiond the boards on this one. Hi Tek does 3 songs, Erick Sermon & ALChemist do 2 each, and Rcokwilder, DJ Roddy Rod, Ayatollah, DJ Roddy Rod, DJ Mighty Mi, Mad Lib, Prince Paul DJ Premier and Scott Storch all do 1. A good labum to have for fans of real hip hop and lyrics.

Pretty Nice.......2005-06-01
I bought this album for one song, Oh No with Mos Def and Phraoh monche and ended up liking the majority of the album. My BIGGEST beef is the large number of empty tracks between 17 and 38...what the heck is that about? I'm really glad the album showcases some of the lesser known artists like Words(worth), Consquence and Menace, and Saukrates. My favorite beat is from the Alchemist on Right and Exact, the oriental sound is ON FIRE. Pick up this album is you have some extra cash and want some hot beats and a nice mix of artists
underground trying to surface (don't worry we can see you).......2003-11-15
First of all i would like to point out there are two versions of this album. Nothing major, but the copy i own, has a track with big L & C-town (called Still Here) in the place of The Last emporer. Both tracks are worthy of the cd yet the big l is doper.
With that being said the album itself is bangin, some commercial heads are featured which is okay since we all got to make money, but this is dope hip hop and you should buy it, not only is it mad cheap used, the album is worth every cent of that four dollars.

first of all i never heard the whole cd, i've just heard the sampler which is great. this is why i've gave it only 4 stars, i don't know that the rest of the songs are great, so i only gonna give you a review of the songs i've heard. "w.k.y.a." has a nice beat, "oh no..." is a great song, "makin' it blend" has a pretty commercial beat but it's listenable, "get that doe" is great, "sharp shooters" is nice, "the legendary street team(remix)" is better then the normal one. "he lives" has some great story-telling, "right & exact" is a pure dilated peoples song. i've also heard the remix of "i've commited murder" which is one of my favorite songs.

Customer Reviews:
Truly a classic hard-core album.......2006-08-06
This is a really decent punk rock compilation. Pretty much every song is good, top to bottom. It is cool to see some Northwest bands and some hard-to-find old school outfits from 80s such as DFL (my favorite band) and Poison Idea. This is a good mixture of music and a must buy for punk rock aficionados. Not many better compilations out there!
wholsome punk rock goodness.......2006-03-09
I bought this one about 10 min after i had bought Vol. 6 sence i was driving from one record store to another. This one is pretty good, but saddly its kind of a tease today, seeing as many of the tracks are from albums that went out of print years ago. This one is probably one of the best out of the 10 Punk-O-Rama compilations so far. The only two that i would rate better would be vol. 1, and the somewhat rare and un heard of Vol. 2.1, which was a special deal at the 97 warped tour(looks the same only the moster on the cover is skateboarding, not urinating on a wall, and it has the Wapred Tour logos) 2.1 featured a slightly modified track list with stronger tracks from SNFU, Down By Law and Pennywise. Its worth the money youll spend if you ever see a copy in the used cd bin. Anyway, Punk-O-Rama 2 is a pretty good collection of punk from the 90s as well as the two 80s hardcore bands Poison Idea and DFL. If you want to sample a pretty broad spectum that is punk music, this is a good place to start, as it gives you not only some of today's vetran bands' older material, but some seriously old scool stuff too. also some of these tracks arent for those turned off by questionable subject matter...Namely the one TSOL track
ahhhhhhhh this reminds me of times past............2005-06-21
It was 1996, I was young and pissed off, had problems with school, parents and girlfriends. This CD came right on time. The Offspring's Smash brought the Epitaph name to my attention, so I saw this for 10 Guilders (Yes, guilders...damn the euro)and picked it up. I was not dissapointed. It was angry, loud and fast. Descendents, NOFX, Pennywise, Bad Religion.. Loved it.
This cd just belongs in 1996. It couldnt be released again today. It was in the height of the second punk explosion. Punk is dead now again. I don't listen to any more new Epitaph releases, they just all plain suck. Even NOFX doesn't put out decent records anymore. So that's why I started to look elsewhere and found it in garage bands like Kings of Leon.
But sometimes I get nostalgic and give Punk O rama a spin once more, and remember times past.... ahhhh.
The Best Compilation CD Known to Man!!!!!.......2003-07-05
The Punk o Rama series isn't ever one to disappoint, and this proves it. The second disc in the series, it's definatly the best. most well planned mixes out there.
Why do I love this mix so much. I like it because it features two of my favorite songs "Perfect People" by Pennywise and "Code Blue" by TSOL. The album begins with the 34-second speed demon "Coffee Mug" by the legendary band The Descendents. Then it goes into an amazing group of songs from well knowns like NOFX, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Pennywise, TSOL, Rancid, and Bad Religion, but also features such unknowns as Poison Idea, Dead F**king Last (DFL), and SNFU.
So pick up this album now. It's a classic.
the best punk o rama.......2003-06-22
this is a great cd unlike volume 8 this one is more aggresive, fast, rock your jocks and drink beer punk rock not trendy sounding punk rock. TSOL, Poison idea, the Joykiller these bands should be on all punk o ramas. vol 6,7 and 8 are a waist of money.
