5 out of 5 stars My Ruby Duby!.......2006-10-26

Wanna know what the blues is about? Then listen to Sue's 'Sad sad city'.
This is just one of others where lyrics and music go hand in hand, standards
or originals, she does it (almost) equally so good. And I love her.

5 out of 5 stars Not bad for just three!.......2002-11-15

This is hard to get, but I think it's pretty much worth it. Sue is, without a doubt, the queen of the Telecaster and that pink paisley she uses is the most beautiful-looking guitar in the world! I love "Sue's Boogaloo" (one of the three instrumentals on the album; they were all written by Sue, what's more); "Put Yor Money Where Your Mouth is" and Magic Sam's "Come Into My Arms". If you only buy one album for twelve months, make sure this is it!!

    Album Description

"Without Warning can be viewed as a portrait of a man whose surroundings are so hopelessly blighted that the cultivation of a paranoid, overactive imagination proves to be liberating - even empowering. While [it] might sound and feel somewhat dated by now, especially in comparison to Poet's recent work as a soloist and as a member of Screwball, it is essential listening for fans of the QB sub-genre/movement and stands out as a brutally honest, if eccentric, depiction of inner city strife." - OHWORD.COM

Poet takes his listeners on a comical yet convincing tour of a QB landscape that is cartoonishly violent, while producer Hot Day's beats are hard, deeply funky, and swing just enough to sound strangely jubilant underneath Poet's venomous verbiage. With the unsmiling, measured coldness of Parrish Smith and the colloquial clarity of rival KRS-One, Poet obliterates lesser emcees, corrupt cops and all of his detractors in concise verses devoid of mystical jargon or superscientifical abstraction. Contains "Tell It Like It Is," Poet's front-stoop political commentary that quickly assumes the shapelessness of wonderfully unapologetic drunken digression. Cuts like the murderous LP version of "I'm Flippin'" and the viciously apocalyptic "Pandemonium" build vividly on themes and concerns related to daily survival.

4 out of 5 stars Solid debut from Poet (of Screwball) - maybe 4.5 stars.......2006-07-26

Before QB became big in the rap game, there was PHD (rapper Poet {1/4 of the group Screwball} and the, producer Hot Day). Poet is a straight street, gutter rapper, he has been for years and on his most recent release - Blaq Poet "Rewind-Deja Screw" (also close to 4.5 stars) he still is. Also check ou the 2 Screwball albums, both tight, "Y2K" (a 5 star classic) and "Loyalty" a 4 star album. Poet tells some street stories mostly through this album, and he tells them nicely. with 11 songs, 1 is a classic, 2 are almost classic, 4 are ok, the otehr 4 are tight. Guests are on 1 song (a very young Cormega), so you get a lot of Poet. The production is very tight for 1991 and handled by Hot Day. A must have album for fans of QB rap or fans to see where a lot of the hardcore rap came from.

    #2 - 7
    #3 - 8.5 (nice beat)
    #4 - 8

    #7 - 9.5 (tight beat)
#8 -6.5 (too much talking where there should be a hook)
#9 - 9 (tight beat and nice story)

5 out of 5 stars Breathtaking music and artistry.......2007-03-16

Hearing these superb performances of this glorious music is a truly wonderful experience. The Shostakovich cycle from Jewish folk poetry is simply stunning and these grest artists (Dolukhanova particularly) bring out every nuance and emotional colour of these great songs. And having the great man himself at the piano is just the icing on this glorious Russian cake. This recordin shows you what singing and songs are all about.

5 out of 5 stars Shostakovich Bare and Most Moving.......2000-06-12

Say what you want about the massive DS symphonies-they are no doubt a cry for help, reflecting great depair and destitution. But they are also hopelessly contrived creatures artistically vacillating on the lines between the emotional outcry and contextual contradiction. Just listen to the 7th, 8th and 9th symphonies back to back! More pladuits are heaped on the 15 string quartets for their even greater emotional appeal, and also their intimacy.

And intimacy is what I want to speak of here: From Jewish Folk Poetry contains a stunning need to communicate from the singers (Vishsnevskaya style), their voices are lacerating sharp- the mezzo Dolukhanova, sultry, the alto and tenor, heady and delightful. Yet this piece, and this particular release in particular conveys a shattering impact. The audio is suitably raw, transmitting much coldness and desolation.

The recording is definitive: Shostakovich heads the piano while the singers are from the priemere. Tracks 3 (Lullaby) and 8 (Winter) are simply breathtaking. Haitink's recording on Decca cannot match the white heat here.Buy it for the Shostakovich, and also becoime enchanted with the other 16 tracks, concert relays from Dulukhanova singing music of a much more romantic vein. Wonderful.

On Without Warning, young Canadian blueswoman Sue Foley puts together the complete package: guitarist, singer, and songwriter. Her driving, syncopated guitar grooves are as vigorous as ever, but her tender, ingratiating voice has come forward in the mix as a crucial asset and her own compositions have increased from three out of 11 on her first album to eight out of 13 on this follow-up. Backed by her road rhythm section, Foley plays six of the cuts as a guitar trio, shifting with impressive authority between rhythm riffs and single-note leads. Even when joined by ex-Blaster pianist Gene Taylor, Austin organist Riley Osbourn, or duet singer Angela Strehli, Foley dominates the proceedings with a confidence that belies her outsider status as a young woman in an old man's game. --Geoffrey Himes

This woman sure can play guitar, bur her voice does not impress me. On the whole, I'm missing something to give this record the little extra to make it great.

5 out of 5 stars The premier blues performer in the world today........1998-05-21

On this, Sue Foley's second release, she demonstrates a knowledge, a fire and true emotional understanding of blues. Where blues has a habit of being stuck it a rut of traditional complacency, regardless of when more progressive artists cover it, Sue is a breath of beautifully crafted air breaking down the cobwebs in a spell biding instant. The covers on this album such as "Come Into My Arms" and "Ruby Duby Du" are given a completely fresh new lease on life, while the originals such as "Open Up Your Eyes", "Live Together" and "Annie's Drifting Heart" more than deserve a place in the immortal blues classic "hall of fame". Her guitar playing and singing are unmatched by none. She is the most underrated, primary force in blues today.

      Customer Reviews:

The tracks on this CD were done between 1999 - 2002 (or close to that) by Chingy when he was in a group called "Without Warning". These tracks are all professionally done and sound great. Chingy is the lead guy and is featured on every track along with a Bonus DVD that is basically a music video for the single. The video looks very pro.

This is a great package that captures Chingy's talents and stands up well next to his Captiol releases. If you are a big fan of Chingy's you will like this.

A most pleasing release by this North American almost unheard of progressive metal band. The vocals are great they kind of remind me of Symphony X and the music alot like Magnitude 9 and Dreamtheater only they have a Deep Purple like keyboard sound thats very suited in its aplication , the drummer is f...ing wicked and so are the guitars these guys are very good at what they do, they play with great execution and emotion and i think they are very underated.
I recomend you to buy this CD if you are into progressive rock or Metal.

I was in the army came home on leave heard stomp, caught the L went downtown scooped up the single, got the albun back in germany. I gotta give Jersey props out of all the other cities Jersey has held their own, K-yze was the first in my opinion to mix house and rap and do it correctly, KC flight was a joke, although 2 brothers in a room were kind of hot back in the day. This album is a classic five mikes without question.

In NYC in the early 90s, you could NOT go up in a party without hearing "STOMP", and you would IMMEDIATELY start "MOVE, JUMP, JACKin" your body till you were dripping with sweat! What ever happened to K-Yze??? STOMP is a song that's sentimental to me cuz it reminds me of my brooklyn basement party days of high school.

5 out of 5 stars Jersey In The House!!!!!!!.......2004-10-29

This is a must have album! Most of the tracks are Hip-House, but with a Jersey flavor to them -- in other words, smooth. Add some writing and production by Hula & Fingers, and Joe Smooth, and you have the Chi-NJ connection (it's only fitting that the connection would be so strong since a lot of the early Chicago records caught on fast in NJ). "Sweat Dance", "Shout It Out" "Stomp (Move, Jump, Jack Your Body)" and "Oh What A Night" are easy dance floor favorites of mine. They have that pure Hip-House energy and anyone can dance to them. "Colour Of Skin" and "What Are You Striving For" are two more brilliant recordings for two reasons: the melodies are addictive and so are the lyrics! K-YZE displayed the unique ability to rap about the real issues that affect the inner city youth and still keep the sounds hot. But there is still a splash of R&B with "My First True Love" and of course the slower version with "True Love (Mix)". These are all favorite tracks but the entire album is definitely worth a listen to. If you're about to embark on an hour-long road trip take this album with you -- before you know it your trip is done!

5 out of 5 stars Jersey In The House!!!!!!!.......2003-03-02

5 out of 5 stars "Believe" in Without Warning.......2000-02-11

With their second release, "Believe", the prog-rock "metal" outfit Without Warning continue to expand their sound and vision. From the opening salvos of "Deepest Dreams" to the last note of the wonderfully orchestrated title track, the band shows off with great chops, catchy hooks and an obvious songwriting talent. Singer Jack Bielata chimes in with a voice not only startling in it's uniqueness, but with an uncanny ability to encompass several styles. Guitarist Ted Burger plays with a wonderful sense of dexterity and taste. A rare combination indeed! Keyboardist Vinnie Fontanetta does a fantastic job of providing a lush soundscape tinged with just the right amount of aggressiveness to keep it heavy. The John Lord influence definitely makes it's prescence felt. Anchored by a rock solid rhythm section of Graham Thompson on bass (sadly, he has recently left the group) and some stellar drumming by Steve Michael, Without Warning stakes it's claim as much more than just another Dream Theater wanna-be. Great melodies, imaginative lyrics and an original sound showing off all the right influences make this album a "must have"! If you like Dream Theater, older Rush, Deep Purple, et al, put this album on your list. Don't wait...GET IT NOW! In my opinion, this is one of the finest hard rock albums to come down the pike in a long time. You won't be dissappointed.
