About the Artist
In the ever changing world of Hip Hop music very seldom do you come across an artist that’s willing to lead instead of follow. To go somewhat against the grain instead of staying the same. Creating music from depths of ones heart, mind, body, and soul as opposed to mimicking whoever’s hot.
For several years Birmingham, Alabama’s first and original MC Mello Max a.k.a. Lock, has been consistently defining and redefining his unique hip hop style and sound, pushing his all around creativity to a level where most artist are unwilling to go. Perfecting his craft to where as each song in contrast differs from the other, but at the same time, expanding musically with each track made. His self-described Get It Crunk Dirty South type of flow and funked out beats are legendary in the south and one of few people in all of music that can actually write, produce, arrange, play, record, mix and master all his own songs.
Born Alfred Maxsmillian Lockhart, Mello Max started his illustrious career in the early 1980’s simply as someone who had a love for music, primarily known as a dancer dancing at parties, clubs, skating rinks, and gatherings etc…. Once introduced to the rap game, he quickly developed various styles and techniques. With influences from Blues to Hip Hop and from Michael Jackson to Parliament Funkadelic. His lyrical flow, funkdafied productions, and live performances earned him a reputation as one of Birmingham’s most talented and exciting MC’s. As he grew in popularity, he formed rap groups, writing, producing, and composing material for different artist. Eventually he became a solo artist where he shined even more so. Winning countless rap and talent contests, including 1st place at the Birmingham Apollo Talent Search, performing on the locally televised Bobby T Show, doing mini-tours, while at the same time recording and playing clubs in Birmingham and throughout certain parts of the country.
In 1995, Mello Max caught the attention of several record companies but was seriously injured in a work related accident. After many years of recovery, the multi-talented entertainer picked up where he left off and formed his own record label" Kick It Productions Entertainment" (KIP Entertainment), his own production company (Kick It Productions), his own publishing company (On Lock) and built his own personal studio (KIP Studio).
Now inspired more than ever, Mello Max has released his long awaited, highly anticipated CD "Nan Like Me" a unique blend of Trunk Rattlin, Booty Shakin, Bass Driven Funk combined with Catchy Hooks, Phrases, and Mesmerizing Flows that ‘ll keep Ya Bouncin, Dancin, and Noddin your heard from beginning to end. Already considered by many a Hip Hop classic. This CD is innovative, creative and masterfully done, it truly has something for everyone.
