5 out of 5 stars Looptroop - Modern day city symphony.......2003-12-19

Allright, for you who don't know, Looptroop (Promoe, Supreme, CosM.I.C. & DJ Embee) are together a swedish hiphop band, that's been doing rap for 10 years or so. Modern day city symphony is their first long play album, and i think it's even better than the new 'The Struggle Continues' album, but that is ofcourse only my opinion =) All the songs are really dope on this album, and the beats are really well done and kicking!
I can only recommend this album to all hiphop fans!

At www.looptroop.nu you can find some info about the band.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Instruments of the Orchestra - Great Reference Material!.......2007-04-04

This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

5 out of 5 stars Beginner or Expert.......2007-03-12

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

5 out of 5 stars Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

3 out of 5 stars Frank's view.......2006-08-19

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

5 out of 5 stars dope as f%$k.......2005-11-28

this is better than hip hop your going to get in the us, and it isnt even their first language, clearly puts most American MC's to SHAME. I also believe this is their best cd, but thats my opinion. You can listen from the first song to the last song, they are all fire. dope beats + dope lyrics = dope lp.

5 out of 5 stars Classic.......2004-12-22

Up until a few days ago I had only heard of Looptroop but had never got the chance to actually hear any of their stuff. Then I heard Modern Day City Symphony and I was absolutely amazed.

These Swedish MC's are rapping here in their second language and put 90% of the mainly English speaking rappers to shame. Awesome lyrics, flows and voices. This album is completely 100% DOPE!

A lot of the subject matter is concerned with graffiti, so if you are into quality Hip Hop and Aerosol Art (even if you aren't) you MUST buy this album!

5 out of 5 stars Makes me proud to be a Swede.......2003-09-26

I would put these guys up with krs-one. They both make great beats and music, but you listen to the lyrics, there is actually a strong meaning behind it. In fact on these lines looptroop might have the upper hand. Their new album, not listed on amazon yet, its just as good. I can't wait to get it! Check them out at http://www.looptroop.nu

5 out of 5 stars Underground from Sweden that puts most US MC's to shame..........2001-08-19

...of course there are exceptions... of course in america we are truly blessed with the most original and widely most talented... but along come loop troop. from the moment i heard their cut "4 Elements" on a compilation called "Return of the B-Boy" I knew that these cats would be getting some airplay on my hip hop radio show. WPRK 91.5 fm Rollins College. This crew is amazing. The rhymes are original and tight, the delivery is amazing. They go off in english 99% of the time on this release. it's amazing-they flow better in english, their second language, than most us mcs do in their own language. This is one truly dope LP. Look for the ep's from these guys, BUY the vinyl or CD, and cop some live cuts in mp3 format floating around out there. DON'T SLEEP ON THIS CREW! -DJ Levi

4 out of 5 stars Underground music goes public.......2001-07-09

Well, what can I say? LoopTroop's the finest of the Swedish underground hip hop scene. Already a classic piece of Swedish hip hop history, this CD surely makes you wanna see them live. With rhymes that speak of freemindedness and revolution from the system, combined with dark and heavy beats, LoopTroop can't be dismissed. The group has performed on clubs and jams all over Sweden, and built up a reputation outside the country as well. On this CD Freestyle from the Arsonists and Sweden's Timbuktu, among others, are featured on some of the tracks. If you're only to buy one Swedish hip hop album, this is the one, as long as you're not into the Swedish language. If so, you've got plenty of lyricists and great battler's still to explore...

1 out of 5 stars Not what I expected.......2000-09-30

This compilation does not contain titles of real hit movies. It contains mostly sentimental or comic songs from old movies and even from the ones I managed to recognise only a handful were original. It struck me hard to find "Enae Volare" from "Les Visiteurs", the only title I ordered this compilation for, terribly altered but that might concern me alone. Finding "What a Feeling" from "Flashdance" similarly altered made me wonder... later, on the back of the box, I found a small note saying, as I could decrypt from French, that the songs in the album were not necessary original. I should've been warned about this in advance!
