This is one of the most original and exciting albums I have heard in a long time. Heated is a deep breath of fresh air in a music scene saturated with cliche, forgettable music. The album as a whole has an energy that is rare amoung music put out in the last decade. I recomend this album to anyone who likes raunchy, energetic, nasty rock and roll.

I bought this CD about 2 years ago, and I still listen to it very much. Since then I bought Big Sugars' newest CD, 'Brothers and Sisters, Are You Ready?' recently.
This album has a great mix of various tunes, which are very unique. From 'Turn the Lights On', which is a reggae type song, to the heavy guitar in 'Kickin' Stones', this album truly has great variety. It blends many kinds of music, from rock and roll to reggae, using a wide variety of instruments.
If you want to listen to something new, I highly recommend this.

Gordie Johnson goes back to his guitar hero persona with a vengeance with this CD, but he may have been better served to rely more heavily on the talents of the saxophone and harmonica (especially harmonica) of Kelly Hoppe. Big Sugar had their biggest artistic triumph with the blues guitar and wailing harp of "500 Pounds," and they followed it up reasonably well with "Hemi-Vision." "Heated" is a step back. Not one of the tracks is weak, but there is nothing definitive about any of them. In fact, the best track on the CD is a cover of Randy Bachman's "Let it Ride." It sounds great, but it's hardly cutting edge. That's the problem with this CD; there's really nothing on it that hasn't been said before and to greater effect. Johnson's breakout CD was his blues-rock "500 Pounds." While I understand that he may not want to be pegged as just a blues artist, he may want to stick a bit closer to these roots so that he doesn't continue to lose his focus.

I was fortunate enough to catch one of their shows last year when I was in Toronto - it blew my mind! I can hardly wait for their inevitable UK invasion. These guys are going to be HUGE - you heard it here first!

        Hey I sampled the first five tracks and really was into track 2 and 5 so i ordered the cd. Well I got the cd and the songs dont sound the same. As a matter of fact theres no other tracks on this cd that I liked as much as the 2 I first heard although track 10 is pretty good.The rest are ok to listen to. Sean T definitely has his own personal style, which is a good thing.

                Bruce Arnold has built his reputation on his critically acclaimed explorations into twelve-tone structure. He now presents a CD of music that is both muscular and intellectual, bringing together the interactive nature of jazz with the hard driving groove of rock and the bracing, bittersweet flavor of post modern classical sounds. The three musicians, Bruce Arnold, Ratzo B. Harris on bass, and Tony Moreno on drums negotiate this landscape with grace and passion, and Bruce lets loose with the fiery inspiration that has made him one of New York's established artists.

                On first hearing "Give 'Em Some" a listener might not focus on the stringent form that went into this set of 6 compositions for trio. The pieces, made more accessible by blues or rock structures may sound simpler than Mr. Arnold's previous work. "The challenge was that I was soloing over some pretty shifty twelve tone based chord patterns, and rocking out at the same time," says Bruce. "But I really let loose on this CD."

                Highlights:

                "Blues for Arnie," a piece dedicated to the seminal composer Arnold Schoenberg. Not strictly a blues, it nonetheless embodies the energy and emotion that the blues has brought to American music. "Give 'Em Some" is an extremely intricate chord progression supported by a strong and funky groove. "Smoke" journeys into the bluesy wah-wah land of Jimi Hendrix. "Time Line" is an extended rock ballad reminiscent of Jeff Beck, another guitar icon. "Rush" is a pastiche of groove and a gamut of evocative electronic guitar sounds with bookends of effects processed solo work. "Funky Timeline Breakdown" is a coda to "Time Line." "I loved soloing over that one!" says Bruce.
