I dare you to stay seated when this one comes on. Its recorded better than most of the Rebirth's discs, which turns out to make a big difference. The reason I gave only 4 stars is because no recording has ever really captured the Rebirth. But with this one, you can start to feel the thump of 10 musicians pounding out the groove; you can start to smell the sweat of 100 people dancing in a tiny bar. Not just rhythm-funky, its nasty-funky too.

This represents a great version of right-now New Orleans brass-band jazz -- very funky fusion of Dixieland jazz, hip-hop, soul, and marching band. Live-in-the-studio recording really captures their energy (and some of their warts) with somewhat better quality sound than most live records. It's almost impossible not to move to the music -- my restrained-around-the-house teenager and a business associate of my wife's were both dancing around the kitchen with this on. Take the parental advisory seriously, though! Almost every song has lyrics, and there is a strong street component to most of them.
