George W. Bush Gets the Gas Face.......2006-10-02
M.C. Serch, Prime Minister Pete Nice, and D.J. Richie Rich, collectively 3rd Bass, have the distinction of being, along with the Beastie Boys, and a few others, among a very small number of white boys able to make good rap. Here, the lads are in tip top form, especially on The Gas Face, Wordz of Wisdom, and The Cactus, but really they're all great
Hip-Hoppers Representing Brooklyn-Queens........2006-09-01
Of course when this came out it was on cassette back in 1989. I was also in 7th grade when I first purchase it, then later on lost it. I probably drop it somewhere between my relocation between New York and Virginia several years ago. Thanks to Amazon I was able to retrieve it on CD. These guys stood out because of the color of their skin, but they weren't on some corny BS. They could actually rhyme, and I respected that.
Almost every track here is great with the best being "The Gas Face"(video is funny but corny at the same time), "Product Of The Environment", "Brooklyn-Queens", "Monte Hall", and "Wordz of Wisdom" (both parts) are great. In within this album they have some funny clips between "Russell Rush", "Hoods", and "Who's On Third" which are great to listen too. My other favorites are "Steppin' to the A.M." with its funky beat. "Triple Stage Darkness" - speaking of the street (what rapper doesn't) and "The Cactus"- speaking of the anatomy which is interesting. Everything is done well and the production always matches the mood of the song.
The Cactus Album is great and Pete Nice is also one of my all time favorites with his logical rhyme style and pimped out cane that he sported religiously. If you like hip-hop, you'll love this. Highly recommended.
Better than the beastee Boyz, Before Eminem!!!.......2006-08-31
The music behind the band makes me forget that these guys are white. NY embraced these guys cause they were nice. Some of those new guys need to step up. Beats and rhymes were up there with everyone who was out (epmd, kane, rakim, ll cool j, de la soul).
Buy it for $1.50.......2005-12-16
I'll never understand why someone would buy this reissue for 6-8 bucks when you can get the original release for only $1.50. Just search and find it. It's not like this rerelease is remastered or anything, it's just a reprint.

Complex simplicity--narly!.......2004-01-31
This album is terrific! Creative twists on lyrics and instrumentation; love the layering and mixing of different genres and variants within to create something with complex simplicity. Very playful, colorfully imagistic, and lyrical at the same time. The intonations in Lance's voice transmit more than just words; his voice is beyond mesmorizing. Beautiful and simply put, narly!
Great CD.......2003-12-14
Great CD. Don't know why it's in the country section. This is a rock and roll CD, like Exile on Main Street is rock and roll. Yeah, theres some contry influences, but these guys draw from all over the board. A little influence from everywhere and keepin it pretty real and down gritty. I'm lookin for the next one.
Great CD, Definatly.......2003-10-30
The Cactus Hunters make interesting music and I am glad I stumbled across them recently. The songs are rootsy and have a variety from tune to tune and a depth that make it really refreshing. Some songs have a mystery to them, as others are sweet or primitive with tastful guitar, good lyrics, and well-grounded in tradition. Each song has a mood or story all its own. It sounds a little like the Band with some kind of Stonesy/Strokes-like energy, some Replacements thrash with some real gut/soul sensitivity, JJ Cale cool, moody howlin and some really sweet, sour or roughed-up lyrics. Or something like that. Definitely worth checkin out. I like them and I'm glad I got turned on to them.

Scrapbook of beautiful songs.......2006-09-05
Something Gone, with songs like You and Me, Last Tango in Paris and Beautiful Sadness, is definately more lyrical than the debut album, which allows the singer to explore more emotional experiences. What is so outstanding about this album is the poetic quality of the lyrics and unique musical texture of each individual song. While there is a tension between what the singer is singing about and what the sounds of the songs convey, Cactus Hunters succeed in being lyrical with the vivid imagery of each song without being self-indulgent or confessional. Broken Down echoes subtly with lyrics embraced by Bob Dylan, which makes the song distantly familiar at first, however Cactus Hunters still manages to bring something new to that phrase by singing about such a seemingly depressing or "down" topic and setting it to an upbeat and almost whimiscal-line-dancing-sort-of-musical-landscape. Juckas sings with intonations and inflections, holding on to certain sounds longer than others and varying his ennunciation of words as he sings, which adds even more emotion than the lyrics themselves can express. Always interested in capturing different layers of sounds, Cactus Hunters further experiments with the texture of music in the song, Waiting on the Moon, by repeating the last lines of the chorus in the sound of a "radio call" as though the singer really is waiting on the moon. This album really is a journey on a "broken down road" through a musical scrapbook of experiences from Arizona to Paris to Mexico to even the moon! By taking familiar, every day objects, such as a postcard, and adding a fresh twist, Cactus Hunters paints a clear picture of the song, Beautiful Sadness, as the listener can just imagine the "postcards of your heart all over the place." With surprisingly pungent lyrics like, "the light is much too bright in here for how you look tonight," Cactus Hunters confronts the listener with bittersweet truths of disillusioning experiences of love lost. Although there is an immediate sense of loss or something gone in these songs, there is also something gained, something preserved from that loss: the beautiful sadnesss and transcendence of this scrapbook of songs.
