This is a great all around album. The songs are all pretty catchy keeping you moving in your seat

Product Description
On "Scatterbrain", MacGregor displays their diversity with songs that range from gritty and raw to smooth and melodic. However, they are still able to maintain a "macgregor sound" all their own throughout the entire CD. This sound can be described as a combination of a driving, funked-out rhythm section; jazz-influenced horn lines; and skillfully crafted lyrics. The rhythm section provides the backdrop for the horns and vocals and the total package creates a soundscape that is quick to catch the listener's ear. Songs like "Colour Me Illiterate" and "American Scu'me" spotlight MacGregor's ability to "rock out" so to speak while "Slow Down" and "Drinker's Antherm" demonstrate a more relaxed side of the band. "P and T" fuses both of these styles. Lyrically MacGregor gets more introspective on "Scatterbrain" than on previous releases, with songs that focus on topics such as love, alcohol, stress, and sex; and there is a heavy sense of guitarist/vocalist Wax's self scattered throughout the CD. Jake Honoroff makes his debut on this CD as the band's newest trumpet player and the horn section has never sounded so full. Overall, "Scatterbrain" is a solid release by a band that is sure to make some major noise in the next year.

5 out of 5 stars Classic.......2007-05-09

Not much can be said about this offering except you should have it in your collection. Talented musicians coupled with some real fun ideas culminated in a record that few bands could create.

Go get one and hear what I mean!!!

5 out of 5 stars The One Band that everyone Forgets!.......2004-05-20

I have to say that I am aging myself on this, but looking at all the reviews, I am glad that I ain't the only one that remebers this band. I remeber watching the OLD Headbangers' Ball" on MTV and seeing 'Don't call me Dude'. Judt the way that they did the song made me a believer. Then when I heard the album, I thought it was awesome. I must have worn out three of them in as many months. I highly recomend it!!!

5 out of 5 stars a classic!.......2004-04-12

Scatterbrain was one of those bands that deserved more attention than they got. Especially with this, their debut, "here comes trouble", which also happens to be their best. There's plenty of excellent guitar work. 3 of the band members came from the punk/thrash band Ludichrist. (singer, 2 guitarists) Musically, the cd is happy sounding metal/thrash/funk with plenty of catchy guitar riffs. A few covers, including Earache My Eye by Cheech & Chong, Mozart's 3rd Sonata, and a Ludichrist cover called Down With The Ship, in which they play parts of many different songs. Sort of a "name that tune" type of thing. On that track, they play pieces of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendricks, Yes, Doors, Metallica, Van Halen, Aerosmith and one or two others. Not too many people remember this band, but when this album first came out, I was an immediate fan since I was already a fan of Ludichrist. They played in Atlanta twice on this tour and they were great both times. This is a great cd for metal fans to listen to when they're in a good mood. Just an all-around happy, comedic cd.

Hands up if you remember Scatterbrain. OK, there are a few hands there. Hands up if you remember any Scatterbrain songs other than "Don't Call Me Dude". OK, very few.

Yep, poor old Scatterbrain, cursed by that hoary old affliction, the novelty single. "Don't Call Me Dude" is a tale of psychosis induced by the Californian predilection for calling people "dude". Basically, some dude (oops!) steals lead singer Tommy Christ's girlfriend, and every time he hears the word after that he flies into a homicidal rage. Still with me? Listen to the song and it all becomes clearer, Doo-wop intro and outro included.

"Don't Call Me Dude" received huge attention and was also well promoted on the back of a hilarious video. There was a bit more to Scatterbrian than just one song though.

Basically, the whole of 'Here Comes Trouble' is a novelty from start to finish. Scatterbrain was well named, because some of the ideas on the album are... well... random. "Earache My Eye", the comically camp Cheech and Chong number, receives Scatterbrain's odd treatment. "I'm With Stupid" is a song about growing a second head, which happens to be brain damaged. "Down With The Ship" is kind of an oddity, borrowing and sampling from other songs. Not just a few songs, a LOT! It's fun to play "spot the riff" while listening to the song. You'll hear Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Aerosmith, and quite a few others I can't identify. There's also a whirl through Mozart's "Sonata #3". So much for side one.

Side two is much the same - a tribute to Tommy Christ's willy, a poke at censorship, the infamous single, and finally a tragi-comic beatnik take on why milkmen shouldn't drive drunk.

So what's the music like? Imagine Faith No More on happy pills and you won't be far off the mark. Far from the heaviest thing you'll ever hear, Scatterbrain skirts a fine line between thrash and funk metal. The guitar pairing of Glen Cummings and Paul Nieder are highly versatile, bassist Guy Brogna could slap it with the best of them, and drummer Mike Boyko seemed to enjoy his double kick drums.

Unfortunately, Scatterbrain sank from view, not through lack of good ideas, but seemingly through poor timing. If 'Here Comes Trouble' had been released a couple of years earlier and they may not have been drowned in the plaid clad grunge tide.

4 out of 5 stars techincal -- yet fun to listen to.......2003-07-20

If you like the tight musicianship of King's X, the "Goodtime Party Boys" image of the OLD Chili Peppers, Infectious Grooves, or the hard funk of pre-Angel Dust Faith No More this album is for you.

They don't just sound like second rate Red Hot Chili Peppers...they even look like second rate Red Hot Chili Peppers.

5 out of 5 stars Tommy's House of Chicken.......2003-11-21

This is an improvement on the momentum off "Here comes Trouble" - the novelty didn't wear off. The band sound is more robust - as Paul's guitar sound is wider. The record had no commercial impact - but the song "Taste Just like Chicken" pokes fun at commerical music. Also "Grandma's House of Babes" is a humorous and funky romp through the swamps of Louisiana and whorehouse gator zoo that follows.

this album falls flat compared to their first release, starting
off with funky funny(make ya think)songs like''big fun''and
''fine line''and all around drips of artistic achievment,
but listeners(me)would prefer the''here comes trouble''album.
if you want to try out scatterbrain, then buy it cause its cheap. so why four stars, because they deserve a good rating.

4 out of 5 stars Scatterbrain - 'Mundus Intellectualis' (Pavement) EP.......2005-04-02

Good to see that the guys actually have another release or two out.If you liked their first CD 'Here Comes Trouble',you should enjoy this EP as well.Scatterbrain is good, that is FOR what they are,a novelty metal band.As for this seven track EP,tunes that made me sit up and take notice were "Beer Muscles","A Funny Thing","Dead Man Blues" and the remake of their own "Down With The Ship".Doubt the band even takes itself ALL that seriously.Line-up:Tommy Christ-vocals,Glen Cummings&Paul Nieder-guitars,Guy Brogna-bass and Mike Boyko-drums.Might appeal to fans of Primus,Crowbar,Psychefunkapus and The Great Kat.

3 out of 5 stars Down With The Ship.......2004-12-01

For reasons unknown, Scatterbrain never hit the big time. The band had what seemed like all the right ingredients- an edgy, yet commercially viable sound, great musicians, a consummate showman for a singer, and damn it, they were great song writers. Their single "Don't Call Me Dude" was a cult novelty hit in 1990, which they followed up with the critically acclaimed album `Here Comes Trouble'.

However, Scatterbrain disappeared from sight some time around 1994. The final ripple on the surface was `Mundus Intellectualis', an EP recorded in a desperate attempt to keep a record deal.

In itself, `Mundus Intellectualis' is not far removed from either the debut or the 1991 album `Scamboogery', in that Scatterbrain's trademark zany humour and satirical view of society remained intact, along with the Faith No More/Red Hot Chilli Peppers style technical groove. However, it has a feel of desperation, a band drowning clutching at straws. Songs like "Everybody Does It" revisits subject material covered by "Logic", "Write That Hit" is "Tastes Just Like Chicken", part two, and unfortunately, there's no "Don't Call Me Dude" sized hits to be found. It seems too restrained, like the band was playing safe.

Scatterbrain kept their sense of humour though. "How Could I Love You" is a grubby love song, featuring the refrain "But baby, how could I love you if you won't lie down". The off the wall "Beer Muscles" carries on in the same vein as "Swiss Army Girl", Grandma's House Of Babes" and the legendary "Don't Call Me Dude".

No Scatterbrain release would be complete without a rendition of "Down With The Ship", the band's ever-evolving homage to their influences (read: rip off riffs wholesale). It's a fun little ditty, this time featuring Metallica, Jimi Hendrix, Aerosmith, Nirvana, Black Sabbath's "Paranoid", "The Star Spangled Banner", and Woody Woodpecker's theme song.

There's not a lot here to really impress. The enthusiasm shown in the band's earlier material seemed near on dried up, and the new ideas were thin on the ground, and Scatterbrain were trying too hard, forgetting how to enjoy themselves. Scatterbrain's career ended with a whimper, not a bang.

    4 out of 5 stars Great CD.......1999-10-22

This album captures the sound that the band had on their first release "Here comes trouble." "Write That Hit" is a great Scatterbrain song. Also, if you enjoyed their first album, they do a new version of "Down With The Ship" on this EP.

Not only does Scatterbrain include sick hip hop beats with jazz and funk influences but the lyrics and rhymes are out of this world. Wax shows his unique poeticism and dark sense of humor in tracks like Scatterbrain, American Scu Me and Color Me Illiterate. Listen to Scatterbrain and you may just hear the story of your life.

5 out of 5 stars best cd ever!.......2004-07-24

this is definitely one of the best cd's i've ever heard. every song is awesome. the lyrics, the music, everything just comes together. i've never heard any other band that comes close to sounding like macgregor.
if you like hip hop, this is a great cd. wax's rhymes remind me of eminem's, but with different delivery. the horns on this album are amazing. i saw macgregor and then only listened to this cd. this is the only cd i need in my car.
i definitely recommend buying this cd, you won't regret it.

        Let's see.

Tim Mcintire is a great comedian that a lot of people probably haven't heard of. As such, it's unclear who this review is for, because if you're coming to this page, it seems like you may have heard of him, and thus already know he's great and should buy the CD if you haven't already.

So for the people that DON'T know Mr. Mcintire or his work, and have made it to this page regardless, welcome. And buy this CD. It's funny. And while some might argue that humor is subjective (and they'd be right), I would argue that Tim Mcintire exemplifies the simple idea that "Funny is funny" (and I'd be right as well).

And if you want me to try and categorize it further, Mcintire's comedy (aside from being laugh-out-loud funny, which is the goal of most comedy I'd say, more than accomplished here) is creative, original, unique, and other boring descriptions that don't do justice to the reality of the situation.

So just buy it, listen, go see a live show, live a happy life, the end.
