About the Artist
Raised on Oahu and based in Seattle, rapper/producer John Tsunam makes his solo debut with this 8 song EP. 2 years in Hawaii super crew Prolit served as a solid foundation. For those 2 years John Tsunam performed along side Atmosphere, Mikah 9 (freestyle fellowship), Awol One (shape shifters), Sixtoo, Sole Dose and Pedestrian (Anticon), and many others. Besides hitting up the live circuit they released a successful CD and a 7". Great national distribution, along with distribution in Japan, Australia, and Canada quickly propelled them for future success. Within months, it was impossible to find their CD's and 7"s on the shelves; Prolit had become an instant classic in West Coast underground. The hype easily carried over, and John Tsunam's fans and industry ties have remained dedicated (and on the huge mailing list :).
On "Not Too Intelligent, But Extremely Resourceful" John Tsunam deftly balances cynicism and self-critique with sheer wit and humor to create an EP that is as much a literary examination of the self as it is a cosmopolitan experiment in hip hop music. Tsunam's hyper-awareness allows him to point effectively to social (and sometimes political) injustices and inequalities without sounding preachy and overbearing. His descriptive abilities are captivating and his lyrics have an urgency that commands your attention through the duration of the album. It may be said that John Tsunam is the half Vietnamese, half White, rapping version of woody Allen-but then again...maybe not.
