This CD has a lot of good songs on it, but it just too bland for our taste. We prefer Western music to sound as though genuine cowboys are singing it - not a fancy chorus!

For anyone who likes movie/tv music from westerns should purchase this CD. What a wonderful collection of both film and tv with great renditions of each piece. I'm about to purchase Vol. 1 to complete my collection.

This CD has a number of great western themes that are not in some of the standard lists. For example it includes "The Hallejuah Trail", "Blazing Saddles", and "Giant". This CD also has what I consider the true theme of "The Comancheros". I have been disappointed with some other CDs I have purchased listing "The Comancheros" which had a song rather than this theme. Many of the tracks on this two disk CD go beyond the main theme music and are actually suites. The "Big Country" and "How the West Was Won" are just a couple of examples. It may be a little more expense than some CDs, but not bad for a two disk set. I am really happy with my purchase.

I enjoy this CD. It has many familiar melodies. Good background for reading, nice to listen while driving. It is also the only CD I've ever found that has the great theme from the movie "Giant."

This is the second collection by SilvaScreen, who are also responsible for "The Wild West: The Essential Western Film Music Collection" (see my review). And it's just as good as the first. There are themes in here that everyone will recognize ("Bonanza," "A Fistful of Dollars"), themes that may not be so familiar ("Duel in the Sun," "The Hanging Tree," the lively "Blazing Saddles"), and even themes you may not associate with Westerns at all ("The Friendly Persuasion"). And no duplication either: when this disc includes a piece from one of the same sources covered in its predecessor, it's a different piece. One great treat: the full lyrics to "Gunfight at OK Corral," which I've never heard outside the soundtrack of the movie itself. The arrangement from "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" includes not only the familiar song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" but an overview of the music--seguing almost seamlessly into Bernstein's magnificent "The Comancheros," a rare find indeed. An expensive item, but if you love Western film music, well worth it.

This is film music for the classical music lover. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra presents excellent arrangements of a number of classic film themes (although several pieces of the 56 film classics selected for this 4 CD set are not orchestral arrangements, but rather specialty arrangements). Besides great film composers such as John Williams, Elmer Bernstein, Ennio Morricone, and James Horner, classical composers such as Richard Strauss and Pietro Mascagni make an appearance. On several of the numbers the Crouch End Festival Chorus adds the human voice to the power of the full symphonic orchestra to create true movie magic. If you like the sound of a full symphony orchestra playing some of the most recognized themes ever written, you'll love these CDs.

Silva Screen Records, based in England, has been issuing some fine collections of film scores, more in one box than we have the right to expect. This four-CD box contains scores by many of the best writers, including Max Steiner, Bernard Herrmann, Dimitri Tomkin, Kenneth J. Alford (The Bridge on the River Kwai), Elmer Bernstein, Maurice Jarre, Ennio Marricone, John Barry, Nino Rota, John Williams, James Horner, and more. We can all think of additional film scores we wished were included, but then there's no way this collection could be all-inclusive. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, supplemented by Crouch End Festival Chorus on some numbers, does a very competent job...The liner notes give the basic information without any commentary, and as far as I can see, contain only one error. Am I wrong or are tracks 9 and 10 on the fourth CD mislabeled? Track 9, which runs 7:33, seems to have the excitement of "Pirates of the Caribbean" (which I did not see) and track 10, which runs 4:22, the more sedate "The Girl with the Pearl Earring (which I also did not see). Listings seem to have them reversed.

When I think of the "Golden Age" of Hollywood, many composers come to mind...you gave the usher your ticket in the theater and sat down, knowingly you were going to get your moneys worth...when the curtain opened and you heard those first few notes...you sat back, watched and listened as the film score and orchestra worked their magic...now we have the ultimate from Silva Screen Classics "The Incredible Film Music Box", featuring a four disc set of the essential film scores of the past 60 years...covering several decades from 1939 through and up to the present 2004

There are compilations and then there are "Compilations" beginning with a classic that even the youngsters today recognize "GONE WITH THE WIND" (1939) (Max Steiner), sweeping score that captures the tragic history of the South during the Civil War, one great cue after another, it doesn't get any better than this, nominated by the Academy for Best Original Score...and closing on Disc 4 with "THE INCREDIBLES" (2004) (Michael Giacchino), the big hit in computer animation from Walt Disney & Pixar that once again pit Super-Heroes against the forces of evil...our family of five Supers prove crime doesn't pay, but box-office receipts do...gotta love it!

Silva Screen Classics as usual, has put quality into this 4-CD-Set featuring The City Of Prague Philarmonic Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus conducted by Kenneth Alwyn, Bill Ashton, Paul Bateman, James Fitzpatrick, Mario Klemens, Derek Wadsworth, and Nic Raine. Recorded in "Dolby Surround" with the new technology of "HDCD", this is a "film-score-buffs" dream, one to treasure now and years to come.

Some selections are missing, but when you think of what Silva has included, it is impossible to please everyone...was happy to see "TOUCH OF EVIL" (1958) from composer Henry Mancini, as I feel this composer deserves all the recognition that has been overlooked recently in the music world...This collection is aimed directly at the "Serious Film Score" music fans and collectors...Silva is as always, perfect in every way...just the way we like 'em!

5 out of 5 stars EASTWOOD IS ALSO A GREAT SONGWRITER.......2007-06-11

This is a "semi" career spanning CD (and the only decent one in existence) of the movie themes from some great Eastwood movies. The earlier pieces are from his days in TV and transition to movies. The more mature work with Lennie Niehaus displays Clint's artistry, no not only as an actor, award winning director, but great composer. My only complaint is the disc is missing the off-beat and totally original jazzy "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" from THE GAUNTLET.

The disc does contain his wonderful A PERFECT WORLD and THE UNFORGIVEN. Why Eastwood never won an Oscar for some of his original scores is a mystery to me. He is more celebrated as a director than as an actor only because he won more awards in that category and his acting style was known for it's low-keyed and reactionary style. But the Clint Eastwood the musician cannot be dismissed and here is that more than proves his versatility. A known jazz lover, for fans of that genre, give a listen to WHY SHOULD I CARE from "True Crime", another great Eastwood composition.

The remainder of the disc is a salute to Eastwood and his work with a heavy emphasis on the jazz.

First rate. I've been a fan since his directoral debut in PLAY MISTY FOR ME. Little did I realize what a great composer he would turn out to be.

A must for any fans as there are no single soundtacks available from his movies featuring his work.

Nearly an hour and 20 minutes of "Music For the Movies of Clint Eastwood". What fan wouldn't be happy with this CD? 23 Tracks, and a great compilation. From the early TV days, the "Theme from Rawhide"(this was about the time I fell in love with Clint, I think I was about 8)performed by Frankie Lane, and Spaghetti Western, the "The, Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"(does anyone REALLY know the words to this one, and does it really matter?)to the romantic Doe Eyes"(the love theme from "Bridges of Madison County", the music will have you reliving the great moments from great films that just say Clint!

The first half of the album features both Clint's own works and the fabulous talented composers he has worked with. Ennio Moricone's oh so recognizable style("The Good, The Bad and the Ugly"), the moving music of Lennie Niehaus("Pale Rider"), the haunting sounds from Lalo Schfrin("Dirty Harry Theme", where you will relive Clint doing the, "Do you feel lucky punk?" speech), and some other wonderful musicians including the great Civil War and Western sounding "Theme from Outlaw Josey Wales", by Jerry Fielding, and Erroll Garner's"Play Misty For Me", a gorgeous piano rendition. Some of Clint's own works, included are "Claudia's Theme" from "Unforgiven" "Kate's Theme" from "Absolute Power", "Big Fran's Baby" from "A Perfect World", and of course the mesmerizing and above mentioned "Doe Eyes".

Second half is a 10 part instrumental suite, "Clint Eastwood, An American Filmmaker Suite". This is music composed and conducted by Lennie Niehaus for the PBS "American Masters" documentary " Eastwood: Out of the Shadows" The music tells Clint's story musically, and it flows beautifully and emotionally.It has a little of everyting, including some great jazzy numbers. The orchestration and the musicians capture the journey wonderfully. For list of all 23 track titles, see buying info. You can also listen to samples from there.

The quality of the CD is excellent. A pamphlet with some production notes, and the tracks is included. There are some great pix of Clint as well. It doesn't have ALL his films included. Hopefully the music form "Kelly's Heroes"("Burning Bridges) and "The Beguiled"(more from Lalo Schifrin) will make the sequel album!

Take it in your car and listen to it when you are stuck in traffic, and it will take you somewhere else for a while.Just say "Play Misty For Me" and hit track 8. Highly recommended for the Eastwood fan. And for those that can't get enough, I would also recommend the soundtrack to "Bridges of Madison County". One of the most romantic albums I ever heard.

There's really not too much to say about this, except that any big fan of "Clint Eastwood", or at least the majority of these movies should like this. What I enjoy most are the tracks from his westerns, as they all set a nice mood, but the rest are very good as well. I can't help but think this would have been twice as good had it contained dialogue from each of these films too. Overall a great collection for the fan. After all, if there's one thing "Clint" knows about as much as his acting, it's his music.

Unlike the cliched soundtracks from John Wayne movies and the spaghetti westerns by Elmer Bernstein and Ennio Morricone, respectively, the soundtrack from the Movie "Unforgiven" weaves a masterful fabric of tone poetry that truly speaks to the sensitivity of the movie and to the harshness of life in the west. One hears the reluctance of Clint Eastwood's character to return to a life of violence, betraying his dead wife and his children in the process. The soaring sweeping tracks, including Claudia's Theme by Clint Eastwood himself, paint the old west in truer tones perhaps than any western soundtrack before it. Uncompromisingly western, the soundtrack, nonetheless captures what the sounds of the west should have always been. Put your boots and your wranglers on, sit back, relax and enjoy this one.

The soundtrack to Clint Eastwood's revisionist western masterpiece "Unforgiven" is a brief, but beautiful score. Lennie Niehaus composed the majority of this work, but Eastwood himself created the haunting and memorable "Claudia's Theme." Highly recommended!

'Round about '84/'85, I stopped listening to the current music of the day
and would only spend my time & money on classic rock + soul and oldies. There were many others like me at the time because of the stupefying mediocrity of the musical trends of the day - what a wasteland! Then in '87, I was feeling adventurous & picked this record up in a bargain bin (the cover looked cool and a review said it had a classic rock feel). I gave it a spin and had a freaking EPIPHANY!!!!! I was now free (if I was careful) to listen to current music again and find some true treasures buried under all the trash.

From the opening riff, it was non-stop exhilaration - like ... surfing on a surging sea of adrenalin and testosterone! Well, you know what I mean. It wasn't the pop/metal glam glut of the day - it was melodic, but with hair on its chest. And these guys had chops! With their wall of guitars sound and Ronettes / Shangri-Las production values, it was like Bon Jovi meets Slade meets Tommy James & Shondells in a cross-cultural Cuisinart with Aaron Copeland and the Magnificent Seven & Clint Eastwood spaghetti-western soundtracks.

Yeah, it sounds a little bit dated (even though there was nothing that sounded like these guys)and the lyrics are a bit overly melodramatic & self-important, but that only adds to the charm. There's some great hooks, catchy riffs, sweet solos, interesting storylines, & thoughtful sentiment.

It's the most cinematic piece of rock music I've ever heard. It always conjures up mental images & characters and stories to fill in the gaps between and behind the lyrics. Every time I watch a modern western movie, from "Silverado" on, I've got at least one of these songs playing in my head at some point where there's a "mythic" element or character-defining moment. This album looms larger in my "Pantheon of Pop Music" every time I listen to it.

A damn near perfect record! The guitars (all gazillion of them) blend in perfectly. I would most liken the sound to classic rock that was updated by adding gang vocals and an underground urgency (this is explained as the vocalist Jones was in Posh Boy Records band The Stepmothers). The band never caught on (Country image? Lyrics? Who knows.) but the record is a rare blend of rock that the young will enjoy for its enthusiasm and the old will dig on the western themes.

I had the tape way back in the mid 80's and listened to it all the time. I had been searching high and low to find a replacement for it. I almost fell out of my chair when just for ha ha's I looked for them on Amazon and bam there they were. I ordered it immediately. Sad to say I don't even remember many of the songs but I am sure it will all come back to me.

After 20 years, this album has finally been released on CD. Great album, too bad they never released anything else. The songs are all catchy, especially "I Hear The Call", which they did a video for back in the day. Highly recommended.

Dimitri Tiomkin was one of the most prominent composers of Hollywood's Golden Age and beyond, his career spanning a half-century and some of America's most classic films. This is an excellent set of music of Dimitri Tiomkin's music! The 4th disc is short (at just over 30 minutes), but thats because it is just the vocal versions of tracks which appeared in instrumental form throughout the first 3 discs. Whenever you buy a silva screen compilation, the first thing you ask yourself is 'when were these recordings made' and 'do I have these tracks on other compilations? Thankfully, this set has TONS of new recordings, but there is some recycled stuff and they are as follows:

Dial M For Murder is from the 1993 History of Hitchcock Vol. I, while Strangers on a Train is from 1995's History of Hitchcock Vol. II.

Three tracks originate from 1994's "Music From the Films Of John Wayne". They are "The High and the Mighty", "The Alamo - Overture" and "The Alamo - Green Leaves of Summer".


Red River is from 1996's "How The West Was Won: Classic Western Film Scores Vol. One".

The Thing From Another World suite is from the excelllent 1998 set "Alien Invasion: Space And Beyond II"

Many tracks first appeared on "Way Out West: The Essential Western Film Music Collection Vol. Two". They are: "Duel In The Sun", "The Alamo (Davy Crockett)", "Friendly Persuasion", "Giant (Main Theme)", "Gunfight at the OK Corral", "High Noon", "Rio Bravo", and "The Unforgiven (The Need For Love)".

The rest of the tracks are brand spankin new, and most are not available on other discs, so snag this one up in a hurry!

This long overdue collection of Tiomkin standards and rarities is a must for any fan of symphonic music; albeit, for film or concert hall. As the liner notes clarify; these recordings are a real labor of love for James Fitzpatrick and the Silva Screen team. Tiomkin is; undoubtedly, one of the most difficult of composers to replicate. This recording comes extremely close to "hitting the nail on the head" particularly with tracks such as: "Across the Texas Panhandle" from the Unforgiven, The Entr'acte from Duel in the Sun, The Guns of Navarone, The War Wagon, and the main title and Jett Rink theme from Giant. This recording is a bargain, particularly for collectors who have sought after many of Tiomkin's composer conducted soundtracks (which are getting harder and harder to obtain). Listeners who enjoy this set should consider seeking out previous cd releases of the soundtracks to "The Guns of Navarone" (SONY, Varese Sarabande), "The Fall of the Roman Empire" (Varese Sarabande, PEG), "55 Days at Peking" (Varese Sarabande), and "The Alamo" :original soundtrack (still available on SONY-Legacy).

Silva America presents the ultimate in film music during the illustrious career of an icon and legendary composer of film scores ~ "Alamo:Dimitri Tiomkin Essential Film Collection/O.S.T", featuring some long forgotten 53 cues that sent chills and thrills into the pulses of world events ~ selections from a limited collectors edition that would make any "film-score-buff" green with envy.

Tiomkin was born in Ukraine, Russia [1894-1979] attended and graduated from St. Petersburg Academy[studied under the famed composer Glazunov] ~ had a degree in music as well as law ~ came to America in 1925, shown great interest for Native American music early in his film career.

Great fondness for "The Western" ~ "DUEL IN THE SUN" (1946) (Gregory Peck, Jennifer Jones, Joseph Cotton, Lionel Barrymore, Lilian Gish and Charles Bickford - one of biggest and successful epic Westerns ever, score & photography was simply breathtaking), "RED RIVER" (1948) (John Wayne, Monty Cliff and Walter Brennan - the Duke should have won an Oscar for his performance as the aging cantankerous cattle baron)"HIGH NOON" (1952)(classic film with Gary Cooper in his Oscar winning performance of Will Kane), "TENSION AT TABLE ROCK" (1956), "GUNFIGHT AT THE OK CORRAL" (1957)(Burt Lancaster as Wyatt Earp & Kirk Douglas as Doc Holliday pulled this off with the help of the Main Theme), "NIGHT PASSAGE" (1957), "RIO BRAVO" (1959) (top box office leaders John Wayne, Dean Martin, Walter Brennan and Ricky Nelson), "THE YOUNG LAND" (1959) (young Dennis Hopper), "RAWHIDE" (TV Series) (1959-66) (Eric Fleming as trail boss Gil Favor & Clint Eastwood as Rowdy Yates), "THE UNFORGIVEN" (1960) (Burt Lancaster, Audie Murphy and Audrey Hepburn), "THE WILD, WILD WEST" (TV Series) (1965-69)(Tiomkin's music never saw the light of day), "WAR WAGON" (1967) (John Wayne & Kirk Douglas starred) (beautifully melodic) ~ it's easy to see why Tiomkin loved Western lore.

Second disc contains The Epics ~ "LAND OF THE PHARAOHS" (1955) (Jack Hawkins as Pharaoh Cheops and a beautiful Joan Collins as his scheming wife), "55 DAYS AT PEKING" (1963) (Charlton Heston, David Niven and Ava Gardner is the all star cast), "THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE" (1964) (featuring Alec Guinness as emperor Marcus Aurelius), "CIRCUS WORLD" (1964) (John Wayne, Claudia Cardinale and Rita Hayworth under the big top) ~ next we Hitchcock Thrillers with "STRANGERS ON A TRAIN" (1951) (a masterpiece film featuring Robert Walker and Farley Granger are both very convincing as we learn, never talked to strangers on a train or anywhere), "DIAL M FOR MURDER" (1954) (tense moments come from Grace Kelly, Ray Milland and Robert Cummings - they don't get any better than this) ~ finally Drama and High Adventure with "HIGH AND MIGHTY" (1954) (another outstanding performance by John Wayne, as the co-pilot of an airline whistling the haunting theme), "GIANT" (1956)(another big epic film with Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean and Chill Wills show us what it's like to be a Texan, with oil and money), "WILD IS THE WIND" (1957) (Anthony Quinn, Anna Magnani and Anthony Franciosa), "THE GUNS OF NAVARONE" (1961) (World War II film featuring Gregory Peck, Anthony Quinn, David Niven and Stanley Baker on a small Greek Island trying to outwit the Germans and a very big gun) ~ some of Tiomkin's most inspiring themes rise to the surface.

On disc three ~ as we continue with Drama and High Adventures "IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE" (1946) (James Stewart, Donna Reed, Thomas Mitchell, Lionel Barrymore and Ward Bond with wholesome warm and endearing themes from our favorite composer), "TARZAN AND THE MERMAIDS" (1948) (in his 12th film as Tarzan, Johnny Weissmuller still had what it takes to swim and defeat the man-god Balu - Weissmuller and Tiomkin the perfect combination for this Tarzan adventure), "CYRANO DE BERGERAC" (1950) (Jose Ferrer stars as Edmond Rostand's famous swordsman with a even more famous nose), "THE WELL" (1951) (intense cues give the film musical triumphs in final scenes), "THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD" (1951) (exciting Howard Hawks film with a score to match), "FRIENDLY PERSUASION" (1956) (director William Wyler shows the life and times of a Quaker family played by Gary Cooper, Dorothy Mcguire and Anthony Perkins during the American Civil War, very touching), "THE ALAMO" (1960) (big budget epic western with Big John Wayne it's producer, director and star as Davy Crockett with a haunting and never to be forgotten "The Green Leaves of Summer"), "TOWN WITHOUT PITY" (1961) (Kirk Douglas in a post-war Germany story, blends jazz themes with Tiomkin signature arrangements) ~ Tiomkin always made the difference when it came to scoring a film.

When listening to the music of a film, you had the feeling of the storyline, characters and convictions of the whole picture, they'll never be another to come this way again ~ Silva America has outdone themselves on this one, it is definitely a five star film score box set...gotta love it!

Okay, people, let's get one thing straight right now: Metallica is nowhere near country. It seems to be the new mantra for those wishing to bash the "new" Metallica, but only makes them look even more ignorant. A song is not made country by tossing in an acoustic guitar or slowing the tempo, contrary to the beliefs of many fools. As opposed to the bozos that keep harping on this supposed "country"ness of Metallica, I LISTEN to country as well as Metallica, and listened for years before I knew who Metallica was. I don't pretend to be an expert on Metallica, but I do know what's country, and trust me, they ain't it.

"Unforgiven II," continuing the story of "The Unforgiven" from the (in)famous "black album," is a terrific song. (I'll leave the arguing over whether it's "proper" Metallica to people who have more time on their hands than I do.) The storyline is Metallica-dark and the music complements it well. It's worth having if only to find out how "The Unforgiven" ends, but stands just as well on its own.

Country, though? Please. Either learn more about country music or find another epithet to hurl at the band.

METALLICA'S Unfogiven 2 [CD-SINGLE] is worth the money! Both track's (Unfogiven 2, and The Thing That Should Not Be(Live)* are awsome in there own METALLICA kind of way! It's a good single to add to any METALLICA collection! No, Unforgiven 2 is not there best song, but with The Thing That Should Not Be(Live)*, it makes one great CD-SINGLE! That all METALLICA fan's can apperciate!

After receiving and listing to the "Say your prayers little one: The String Quartet Tribute to Metallica" I found I was rather disappointed in the "tribute" album.

Enter Sandman: The opening is weak... and as forceful as Metallica opens it, it seems like a simple lullaby when played by the Quartet. The notes are wrong, not as punctuated at they could be with clean cut offs and too much dragging out of the strings with the vibrato effect. I expected more thunderous bass lines and didn't appreciate the creative changes made to the song. The Freddy Kruger-like voice reciting the prayer is too over the top, and the changing of that prayer took away some of the poetic beauty of the original song.

Ride the Lightening: The wolf howl heard at the beginning of the song should have never happened. Tragically played... again, choosing to alter the notes rather than stick to the original composure of the song leaves one thinking "What in the hell was that?" Less dragging out of notes on this one... and it's less painful that hearing Enter Sandman. Some of the Quartet's changes from the original version are quite suiting to this song.

One: Not too bad on the ears... but the tempo was just a tad too fast for my liking. This song, when played on classical instruments should not be sped up. To me, the sound of One being played at a slower speed is much more useful, and enables the pain and heartfelt-ness of the original song shine through. It has it's high points, but they are few and far between.

Master of Puppets: The opening is rather nice... until they really get going. I'm noticing a pattern by this point of these guys changing the notes in the songs for reason I can't understand. Cheesy sound effects through out drag this down terribly and make this great song sound rather bad. Don't hate it completely, but I'm not loving it either.

Unforgiven: This is the only song I really like up to this point. The opening is lovely, with a single bell tolling as a lone violin starts up... the entire opening is lovely actually. I was impressed, and the changing of the notes played is suitable for the violin in this number. Great and impressive to the end, this movement, moved me.

Wherever I May Roam: After all that moving from Unforgiven I had picked up some momentum and I came to a dead halt when this one came on. The drum like noise opening this made me cringe, and the constant throbbing of the bass confused my now bleeding ears. They're fast when they should be slow, and slow when they should be fast. Again, more creative note changing in this one.

Through the Never: More stupid sound effects... maybe it's a whistle? Or a garbage truck backing up? Not sure, but that needs to go. Maybe it's just me, but it didn't sound too much like Through the Never to me. This should never have happened. At. All. They shouldn't have even thought about it. Whoever said "Hey, let's cover this one!" Should be slapped stupider than he/she already is.

And Justice for All: Eh.... I don't even listen to it. I tolerate Metallica's version because it's them. But I won't sit through this one. You'll have to find out for yourself.

Hero of the Day: A diamond in the rough. Not too much note changing... and no lame ass sound effects. Pretty moving and surprising, though the ending leaves so much to be desired it's retarded.

Fade to Black: SLOW THE F*CK DOWN! This song is not meant to be played at the speed of light. Again, another good song that would usually sound beautiful on classical instruments is mangled in the need to make it faster. However, it's a nice cover minus the playing at the speed of death metal at times. Sheesh.

Nothing Else Matters: Okay, these guys have serious issues with tempo. Perhaps they don't know what it is? Go back and read what I said about Fade to Black and you have this song.

All and all, I would pass this album by if I actually had to buy it. But if you're like me, and must have any and everything Metallica, then by all means, buy it. I'd advise you didn't get too excited about it though.

If you want good covers of this in the classical type genre, I'd recommend you get Apocalyptica's Inquisition Symphony. Though it only has the Metallica covers for For Whom the Bell Tolls, One, Fade to Black, and Nothing Else Matters, it has a few original works, as well as covers of Sepultura, Faith No More, and Pantera. Much easier on the ears and mind... as well as doing justice to Metallica's greatness.

Why would anyone buy this when you could pick up an Apocalyptica album instead? Rather than this half-assed cash-in attempt with no imagination or passion behind it, check out Apocalyptica's "Plays Metallica By Four Cellos" or "Inquisition Symphony". They do much better string versions of Metallica songs.

Album Description

The newest Crash Test Dummies CD is a melancholy collection of songs. Some are songs of love and hope; others are much darker, and even at times apocalyptic. Brad Roberts has teamed up with producer Scott Harding to produce this lush recording, made in an old Catholic church in Duluth, Minnesota. The combination of the massive 19th century pipe organ and the enormous resonance of the room make this record the most haunting Crash Test Dummies record yet. Many other unconventional instruments appear on the record as well, including the harp and kettle drums. Guest appearances include Suzzy Roche, who sings some sonnets with Mr. Roberts. Founding member and back up vocalist Ellen Reid harmonizes beautifully all over the record. Never have Mr. Roberts and Ms. Reid sounded quite this good together.

They should have called this "Music to Kill Yourself To". The music is unrelentingly dark and doom-laden. The wicked will prevail, the good will fall, forever and ever, Amen. What an album to record in a church!

Individually, there are one or two worthwhile songs. I actually like the (sort of) title track, "The Unforgiven Ones", but the album has very little else going for it. Even if you like dark melancholic music, the songs quickly start to sound so alike that you often don't even notice that one ended and the next one started. This is a _bad_ thing.

where are the Crash Test Dummies that produced "God Shuffled His Feet" and "The Ghosts That Haunt Me"? I want them back!!!

The best CTD album of them all. If you liked "I don't care if you don't mind," than you should love this. It really grows on you. It never gets old. It's dark, slow, and moving.

This new release is pretty bad for sure, Brad's got to go back to the days of 'Worm' 'God Shuffled His Feet' and 'The Ghosts That Haunt Me'. I know some of the fans say they are being diverse, but you got to admit, this stuff is pretty terrible, not even close to the genius music the CTD are capable of producing.

I love the CTD. WHen I realized they had a new album, I went to the local record store and paid full price and could't wait to listen to it. I was horrified at the fact that Brad lost his wit and sense of melody. I thought I was in church attending a funeral. I played it once. Some music deserves a second listen. I could not get through the first. It will be buried in my collection and most likely sold at a garage sale for fifty cents.

The Crash Test Dummies quickly became my favorite band after listening to 'The ghosts that haunt me' and 'God shuffled his feet' albums. When I heard about this new album coming out, I was hoping for another hit. But instead I was quite disappointed. This new album is quite dark, depressing, and just plain boring. Brad has such an amazing voice and I'm not sure what happened, but I hope they Crash Test Dummies return to their original roots.
