Before Pitbull or Jacki-O got picked up on the rap radar, the challenge for Floridian MCs was to avoid sounding like a crunk cliché or a 2 Live Crew derivative. Half the excitement of picking up a Trick Daddy disc is that you have no idea what to expect. Hyper-political numbers like "Amerika" or nonsensical party fluff like "Shut Up"? This eclecticism continues unabated as Trick goes all Bad Brains, rocking out with the aid of an Ozzy Osbourne sample on mosh-friendly "Let's Go." Trick still "loves the kids" apparently, smartly re-tooling a timeless MC Lyte's "Self Destruction" verse and imploring the youth to aim high and stay dry on "These Are the Daze." On the other hand, when most of your discs carry the label "thug" in the title, there's only so much you can do to suppress your compulsion to talk trash; here, he even contrasts women with fruits. --Dalton Higgins

4 out of 5 stars Good Album.......2006-05-27

I like that song Let's Go even though a lot of people are hating on it because they don't like the Ozzy sample to be in a rap song and I respect that but it sounds good on the song though. Anways decent album from Trick Daddy even though this is second worst album of his career. But that is okay I like how he went with this one. I recommend this to rap fans only because only rap fans can appreciate this and if they don't then f@#k'em let them hate.

1 out of 5 stars An ozzy osbourne rippoff, don't buy.......2006-04-14

Have U heard "let's go" from from this poser who thinks nobody has ever heard crazy train from ozzy osbourne? He completely killed a really cool part of that song and replaced a really hardcore song with somthing dumb like "Let's Go!!!!!" and other dumb rhymes. I never understood why rap did this. Think of me as white heavy metal trash if U want but at least heavy metal people play guitar and rappers use mics and rap about things nobody cares about. Heavy metal people are experienced with their fingers while rappers like Trick Daddy use their palms (think about that for a minute) now if U like trick daddy I have no problem with that. I would also have no problem if they did a cover for crazy train from ozzy but I get pissed if they start ripping off giutar riffs from him. I'm more of a heavy metal type of guy but I like SOME rap. Listen to Eminem, Ludicris, or Lil'John if U wanna hear some rap with original Ideas.

5 out of 5 stars Very good.......2005-09-03

As you can tell by my reviews, I have eclectic taste in music and it's only recently that I've gone back to loving rap. I used to love it back in the day when Public Enemy were the best out there, and it's good timing now to be loving it again when I hear an album like this. All tracks on this are excellent, especially my two favourites, Lets Go, and Sugar. It's a shame they weren't bigger hits. This is their best cd and it's worth a listen to. It's good to hear rap with some meaning in it. Great cd.

2 out of 5 stars Trick should have divorced himself from this album.......2007-06-19

You know when Trick Daddy is at his best, you'll get an album like Based On A True Story, WWW.Thug.Com and Book Of Thugs. But when Trick is at his worst you will get Thug Matrimony. The first flaw of the album is that Trick doesnt sound as lively as he did three albums back. The second flaw is the production is weak, the third flaw is some bad guest spots. The Good: F****n Around which features T.I, Young Jeezy and Kase 1 is the best song on here and Trey Songz assists Trick on Aint A Thug as Trick gives it to you raw over a New Edition sample. And despite what you acidhead suburbanites think Let's Go is better than that cheesy rock&roll record its sampled after. The Bad: Gangsta Livin, U Neva Know and Thugs About are superdull filler that will knock you out like Nyquil. I Cry which features Ronald Isley falls short of Thug Holiday(big time!) and Down With The South was a weak way to close out the album, the song being a dead club record and all. The Ugly: Sugar(Gimme Some) is the worst song that Trick has ever made period(yes even worser than I'll Be Your Player). Even though most sex records are usually bad, they're not supposed to be boring and Sugar is boring plus Ceelo sounded like he didnt even want to be there. The remix with Lil Kim was no better. JODD is a failed nasty club record(which features Khia and Tampa Tony) and why anybody would try to bring back Khia instead of letting her fade from our memory like booty-shaking music is beyond me. I Wanna Sing and Children's Song are awful but as bad as they are they are not worser than 4 Eva which features Jazze Pha whose horrific singing is as grating as somebody grinding their teeth. The Field Mob-assisted Menage' Trois takes its number two spot as the worst song on the album. The song is so butt I wont even go into detail. Bottom Line: Thug Matrimony is Trick Daddy's worst effort. The beats were weak and he doesnt as vivid as he used to. Trick fell victim to the laziness that will plague any rapper who is forced to make album after album on the same record label on a tight deadline. I dont blame him any. And you metalhead bums need to get a life. I just seen your idol Ozzy Osbourne kickin' it with the president at his inauguration on Vh1's Top 40 not so metal moments and that's the loser you respect? You're nuts! You stole the whole genre from us so who should be mad at who?

5 out of 5 stars raw southern cd right here.......2006-07-26

First of all F*** that punk that gave this 1 stars just to be a dumbass. Now this cd right here is a damn good one from Trick. He come with it in the first track with 'F***in around' to let yall know he aint playin. "Lets Go" is straight crunk and "Down With the South" is that bangin stuff, he also show another side with "Children's Song" and "I Cry" and he show out to the ladies with Sugar. 5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Tight Trick.......2005-03-02

Down wit Da South is the best club song. Just incredible. The rest of the cd is good too. Ying Yang spits along with a few others. GEt iT nOw.
