3 out of 5 stars "The Chief Rocker Busy Bee is Runnin' Thangs".......2005-08-25

For those that don't know, "THE CHIEF ROCKER" has been holding down the crown for Da' Boogie Down, since the '70's. He was a member of "THE L-BROTHERS" crew (featured on the rare "LIVE CONVENTION '81" LP, where Frankie Cutlass immortalized the crew by utilizing the sample; "PUERTO RICO, HO!"). But the L-Bros. best work remains in the obscure and near-impossible to find (unless through me) realm of "old skool tapes". By 1980, Busy Bee had teamed up with "KOOL DJ AJ" and were rocking party's from "Bronx River Center" to "Harlem World" (and let's not forget his contribution on the classic film "WILD STYLE"). Although not the most technical MC at the time, Busy was well known to rock the party and get the crowd going (and for the infamous battle with Kool Moe Dee). This CD is from 1988 and it'll reflect that classic period of time lyrically and musically (production by the legendary "DJ JAZZY JAY" of "THE ALL MIGHTY ZULU NATION" and lyrics were in most part ghost-written by "MELLE-MEL", of the FURIOUS 5 MC's.) The Classic jam "SUICIDE" was playing wherever you went back in '87. From "The Zodiac" in The Bronx to the "ROOFTOP" (as seen in the film "PAID IN FULL", where Busy- Bee plays himself.) This CD is classic, B-Boy material guaranteed to take you back to the time of dookie-rope chains, Kangol hats, acid wash jeans, TROOP jackets and kicks and Dapper Dan suits. This is as real as old skool Hip-HOP gets. This CD is in FULL EFFECT, BOIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! -NOTE- I meant to give this CD a 5 star review, not 3.

4 out of 5 stars SO BAD IT'S GOOD!!.......2005-08-20

I picked up this album for 99 cents only knowing it was a hip hop album that came out in the 80s. I collect old hip hop CDs so I had to get it. By the first track, I couldn't believe this guy. Could he be serious? One of the tracks "Suicide" tells listeners, "Messin' with Busy Bee, it's going to be a suicide". The next song is called "HOMICIDE" and he tells listeners "You mess with Busy Bee, it's about to be a HOMICIDE". haha. On another track he talks about losing his virginity to his cousin, the weird part is he is not trying to be shocking. He is just saying it casually like he's bragging about it. Regardless of no skills, it is VERY entertaining and it has me listening to every word. It's great to show to friends to laugh together. 4 stars!!

Product Description

Busy Bee was originally a member of the Fantastic 5 MCs and The L Brothers. He is considered one of the first comedic emcees, and lives up to his title as Chief Rocker. He would always get the crowd involved... "Whats your zodiac sign?", "If you love your mom say ho!", classic call and response. These were techniques that all emcees used at the time, but Busy relied a little more on these than most. He was usually backed on the wheels of steel by Cool DJ AJ, who would later gain fame spinning for Kurtis Blow. A perfect display of his party starting moves can be seen in the classic movie "Wild Style." He is infamous for his battles with Kool Moe Dee and his first single "Making Cash Money", which was released on historic Sugar Hill Records in 1982, but his best work remains the Jazzy Jay produced "Running Thangs" full-length. This album was originally released in 1988 and reflects that classic period of time both lyrically and musically (produced by the legendary DJ Jazzy Jay of the All Mighty Zulu Nation). As legend has it, and Kool Moe Dee backed it, lyrics were in most part ghost-written by Melle-Mel, of the Furious 5 MC's, leading to a noticable more hardcore version of the Chief Rocker. Once released, the classic jams "Suicide" and "Express" where playing wherever you went, from The Zodiac in the Bronx to the Rooftop (as seen in the film "Paid In Full", where Busy Bee plays himself.) This CD is classic B-Boy material guaranteed to take you back to the time of dookie-rope chains, kangol hats, acid wash jeans, troop jackets and dapper dan suits. Strong City Records and Traffic Entertainment Group proudly presents Busy Bee "Running Thangs" complete with additional mixes, dubs and instrumentals never before offered on CD, as well as an enhanced portion featuring the full music video to the classic single "Express."

4 out of 5 stars The Bee getting Busy.......2007-05-23

Well we all know he is not the greatest MC; however, with help from Melle Mel it is a solid effort with some undated, new-jackish beats definately worth a listen to.
