Great debut from a talented, original MC.......2006-12-07
OutKast's protege Killer Mike finally released his debut album in 2003, the very underrated and entertaining "Monster." Mike is a really unique rapper, and I became a fan following his guest appearances on various OutKast songs. This album is a really cool release, Mike shows that he can more than hold his own on the solo tip and is a multi-layered, complex character rather than just a guest artist. Mike has lots of moods to watch evolve as he raps on "Monster." He goes from depressed to emotional to angry to happy to silly over the span of a few tracks. He can rap in a style of disturbing horrorcore but is also capable of making a deep and intelligent song too. His bellowing delivery is consistently solid, and he explores a lot of themes in his raps. The production is very strong, obviously very well funded. The music fits the mood of his rapping, and there are rock guitars, heavy horns, deep bass, hard beats, and good instrumentals on lots of the tracks. Killer Mike is also more into the crunk southern rap style than OutKast is, so that influence is often felt throughout the album as well. I think Mike is one of the best rappers in the south, certainly one of the most interesting characters, and his debut "Monster" is really cool to listen to.
After a very good intro, the album begins with the well-produced title track, with a great musical backing and tough raps from Killer. "Akshon (Yeah!)" is the first highlight, an OutKast assisted banger with a hard-hitting, bouncing beat and call-and-response yells. He addresses the state of hip hop on "Rap Is Dead," and "Scared Straight" speaks of urban depression with great verses. My favorite song on the disc is "All 4 U (Niecy's Song)," a truly heartfelt and emotional song for a certain woman in his life, the beat is very dramatic and uses a great sped-up sample. Another awesome song follows, the happy and funky "A.D.I.D.A.S.," which features Big Boi and Sleepy Brown. The verses are each very funny, Sleepy's hook always makes me sing along, and the content matter is real and humorous. The beat is very catchy too. "Creep Show" is an aptly-titled collaboration with D12's Bizarre, they spin obscure rhymes over a nice horn-driven beat. On "U Know I Love You," singer J-Sweet drops by to sing a soulful hook, I really like this track. "Home of the Brave" is an ode to Mike's hometown of Atlanta, a great crunk-influenced club banger with a good hook. "L.I.V.E." is okay but kind of slow-moving, but the heavy-crunk "Blow (Get Down)" is very enjoyable. "Sex, Drugs, Rap & Roll" is an excellent song with a heavily rock-influenced beat, and the Fass Black collaboration "Dragon" is a very unique track. The "Re-Akshon Remix" features southern heavyweights Lil' Jon, Bun B, and T.I. and turns the original "Akshon" into a hard-hitting club track. The bonus track at the end is also good, more vintage Killer Mike.
"Monster" is a great listen that I highly recommend to fans of OutKast, southern rap, and good lyrical and musical hip hop. Killer Mike may not appeal to everyone but he is a great talent and character, and his debut album displays this well. I am excited to hear more material from Killer Mike and eagerly await his next solo release. Until then, I suggest listeners pick up "Monster."
After this album, the next will be even better (4 stars).......2005-07-10
I couldn't pass this cd up because of the price of $, and I knew coming from the Outkast camp that Killer Mike's "Monster" would be a good album. On other reviews though, people praise some of is songs that aren't even good, and they pass up the ones that are really good. So here is a breakdown of this album.
1) Monster (intro) - I always skip intros
2) Monster - Nice way to start the album. Beat could have been better, lyrics on point. 6/10
3) AKshun (Yeah!) - Great beat and lyrics, one of the best on the album. 7.5/10
4) Rap is Dead - Great lyrics, beat could have been better. 6.5/10
5) Scared Straight - Great lyrics, okay beat. 6/10
6) All 4 U (Niecy's Song) - Great lyrics, this beat should have been better because of it's
"Cold as Ice" formula. 6.5/10
7) A.D.I.D.A.S - Great lyrics, suprisingly good beat for the single. 7.5/10
8) Creep Show - Great lyrics, but with Bizarre on this song the bea should have been ALOT better. I wanted to like this track a whole lot more because of the Killer Mike/Bizarre collabo. 6/10
9) U Know I Love U - Terrible, not even the lyrics saved this one. Skip it. 3/10
10) Home of The Brave - Great lyrics and beat. 8/10
11) L.I.V.E. - Please skip this song. - 3/10
12) Blow (Get Down) - THE BEST SONG on this album, you're gonna wanna play it over alot. 9.5/10
13) Sex, Drugs, Rap & Roll - Great lyrics and beat. 8.5/10
14) Dragon - One of the better dedication songs that isn't so commercialized. Fass Black's verse is killer over the start of Jazzy Pha's beat. Great beat & lyrics. 9/10
15) Re-AKshun Remix - Couldn't be any better featuring Bun-B and suprisingly T.I., with Bone Crusher on the hook.
Great beat & lyrics.
30) [hidden track] - Great lyrics, okay Cypress Hill-like beat. 6.5/10
The only way to improve this album is with better beats and organization of tracks, cause have to skip over and go back to get to all the tight tracks.
*** I reviewed this in 2003, but I'm just sendin' it in under this new name.
Killer Mike- Monster.......2005-07-07
Being an Outkast fan led me to checking out Killer Mike's debut album "Monster" (2003). Killer's distinctive flow had stood out for me when he has appeared on Outkast tracks (IE Flip-Flop Rock, Whole Wide World). Killer rhymes with some hunger on the title track "Monster", then flows fast on "Akson Yeah". Killer Mike drops his thoughts the current state of Hip Hop with "Rap Is Dead" and puts some heart into "All 4 U" (Niecy's Song), delivering some on point rhymes. Outkast's Big Boi collabs with Killer on the laidback single "A.D.D.I.D.A.S.". Singer J Sweet drops a smooth chorus for "U Know I Love You", while Killer Mike talks to a lady. The album hits a lull for me at this point as some forgettable tracks, with lackluster guest appearances follow. Fass Black and Killer pick things up again with "Dragon". "Monster" is a decent first effort and has some standout tracks; it also has a fair amount of filler- similar sounding tracks that one can easily skip over. I feel like Killer Mike will either need to step it up more on future releases or remain a support artist.
Impressive 4.5 star solo Debut .......2005-06-14
Killer Mike came out hard for his debut and really grabbed my attention. His lyrics and wordplay are good, and he has his own unique style that he pulls off very well. I did not expect it to be near as good as it is. There is no weak song of the 15 on here (if you let it play after track 15 there is another song at track 30). It has 1 classic, 2 almost classics, many good or great songs and 4 ok ones. The production (all handled by producers from the south) is good as well (and I'm someone who is more of a fan of west or east coast rap). Beat Bullies do 5 songs, Swiffman does 3, Cool & Dre, Andre 3000 of Outkast, Mr. DJ all do 2 each, and Lil Jon does 1. Guests are on a good amount of the songs (rapping on about 6 or 7 and doing the hook on a lot as well) but Killer Mike still shines out on this one. A must have album.

Killer B's tuned to A.......2007-04-04
OK this product can be looked at in two ways. Either simply for it's music or in a wider context.
Firstly the music. Based just on this there isn't a lot here to make this a mandatory purchase for your averagle metalhead. A few live numbers and a few covers of varying levels of interest. It would really be up to the individual to decide what ones they prefer. Apart from that this disc has a few Anthrax curiosities for the completist though they are mostly joke tunes.
Secondly the wider context. That is that this disc was billed as an EP despite clocking in at over 40 minutes. Many bands would call this an album. Anthrax have here put together a nifty little package aimed squarely at their fans. This was never intended to be treated as the next Anthrax album -as the liner notes state - and any fan of this band who approaches this release in the right frame of mind will be rewarded with an amusing and worthwhile package of curios. Pluse the liner notes are genuinely useful and interesting.
Three stars - an average of two stars for the music alone is worth and the four stars the idea and band behind this release deserve for this useful 'round up' of odds and sods from the vault.
For the newcomer, no way. For the fan, for sure, snap it.
Good Slapdash Set of Odds and Ends.......2006-11-22
Anthrax, thrash metal, fun. Yes, we know.
Now, what about the material on the disc? Overall, its pretty good. "Milk (Ode To Billy)" is about a boy who wants milk for his cereal. It sounds like standard Anthrax song. Meshing the goofyness with the sonic aggression brings a smile to my face. The rest of the album proceeds in a similar tasteful fashion. For the most part...
The live tracks are okay, but they throw off the momentum of the studio tracks. And the re-make of "I'm the Man" blows.
But man, the rest of the material is quite good. Any fan of the band, or even just any sort of faster-than-average metal, should consider adding this to their collection at some point.
Nice album.......2006-04-23
I am no much familiar with Anthrax discography but I own this album and I really like it.Bring The Noise (with Public Enemy) is a killer,Keep It In The Family and Belly Of The Beast are also very successfull, the other songs in the album are not bad.
very good.......2005-08-29
Startin' Up A Posse is one of the all time greatest songs, so make sure you get the version of this CD that contains the song. All the songs are fun to listen to, even though I was never really a fan of Persistance of Time that much. Long live OLD ANTHRAX!
What happened here?.......2005-08-25
[...]
This album from anthrax just sucks. The songs Bring the noise and I'm the man 91 is lame. I'm the man 91 is a rap metal song that I guess is a sequel the I'm the man. It sounds like those limp biskit fags. And the songs with the highest quality are not even that decent. Oh yeah, bring the noise is another rap metal song that anthrax failed to do well. If you want rap metal from anthrax that's acually good, get I'm the man. It's awsome, funny, and the album includes a cover song from black sabbath. This time anthrax let me down.

Solid, Underhyped Metallic Hardcore Release.......2006-09-06
Merauder was one of the most solid crossover bands of the later 90's, and their debut album, "Master Killer", is no exception. This is genuine REAL hardcore, the stuff that was (and still is) devoid of trends and "stayed true". As with any hardcore release, this is a great CD to get the blood pumping to. With tracks like "Time Ends" and "Master Killer" that show the band's impressive drumming and shoutouts, this is a hardcore CD that won't bore you very quick. Find it if you can. I highly recommend it to the casual hardcore or crossover fan.
Also, R.I.P. SOB. It's tragic to hear about your loss.
TOUGH AS IT GETS.......2004-09-07
This album is simply put as tough as hardcore gets. MASTER KILLER is the soundtrack for pure anger. Put it on and practice your mosh moves in your living room. Brood about how bad life is. Real deal hardcore from the mean streets of NYC played by a bunch of mexicans. When you're ready to experiance the ultimate beat-down... get this record.
strong album.......2004-03-09
excellent debut album by this interesting metalcore band. Most reviewers classify Merauder as a hardcore act, but undeniably this album presents masterly executed-elements of 90's thrash metal, with relentless riffs and poweful double drummning. Vocals are perfect for the style, more in the hardcore territory. If you like crossover bands that put together the best of hardcore and thrash metal for an unstoppable headbanging/bodysurfing, like Pantera, Pro-Pain, Hatebreed, Pissing Razors, Sick of it all, early Biohazard, then MERAUDER is a must for you. Buy it.
Angry New York punks sign record deal.......2000-02-13
I read a review acclaiming this album as the greatest thing to happen to American metal in 1996, etc., etc., needless to say I picked it up. Yawn. Another bunch of Biohazard/Black Flag wannabes with their predictable riffage and bleeding heart lyrics. The production is fine and some of the music shows promise, but the unfounded arrogance prevalent (especially in the laughable liner notes) set a bad backdrop from the get-go. Whether or not this band still exists is not clear, perhaps the fact I have never heard anything about them since Master Killer should tell me something. Don't waste your money on this--- 2, 3, maybe 4 listens and you'll file it away forever.

Reggae's staunch ghetto realist works the border turf between Jamaica dance hall and New York City street rap, strengthening stateside alliances he forged in his 1996 My Xperience crossover CD. Riding hard on booming hip-hop tracks without compromising his reggae bellow or Jamaican identity, Bounty points the way to the stateside market only a few of his peers have reached. Although the lion's share of this set is bona fide reggae jams--with the best produced by Dave Kelly and Anthony Red Rose--it's the hip-hop flows that register. Proving that the link between dance hall and hip-hop is not through pop or R&B are the title track, with Noreaga; "It's a Party," featuring Cocoa Brovaz, Nona Hendryx, and Free and coproduced by Wyclef Jean; and "Deadly Zone," featuring Mobb Deep and Rappin' Noyd. You gotta come true to yourself and hardcore. --Elena Oumano
Customer Reviews:
Sey waht??.......2005-05-27
If you dislike homophobes dont listen to BK or any other Jamaican dancehall artist for that matter. Its a cultural taboo in Island life to be homosexual. There is no point in saying if he was speaking such things about Blacks the cd would be pulled... such an ambiguous statement is irrelevant to the music of this cd or your argument about violence (in the lyrics, mind you) towards gays. If you dont agree with the message in the music, DONT LISTEN! Its a free market, baby! Capitolism has some uses.
Now, on to the album... somewhat of a disappointment. Too much cross-over attempts. Check out the 5th Element or My Xperience to get dat Bounty Killa vibez dat will mek ya nines rise
Disgusted by this homophobia.......2003-12-04
Upholding the right to free speech does not extend to promoting the abuse of gay people. The overtly aggressive nature of the homophobia in the lyrics of this artist are tantamout to the advocation of violence against gay people and should not be encouraged. If similar action were taken towards black people they would be withdrawn immediately. (...)
Bounty's crossover mistake.......2001-09-06
"Caan Believe Mi Eyes" and "Eagle and the Hawk" are big tunes, but this is Bounty's weakest release. He banked on the hip hop collaboration strategy with this album and it flopped. A poor seller which he followed up less than a year later with 5th Element, which features much bigger tunes in "Look" and "Anytime", and, tellingly, no hip hop guest artists. The Poor People's Governor is best when he sticks to what he knows and that's strictly dancehall tracks. The collaboration effort of this album was a nice idea but it didn't work. That's why many Bounty fans rate this as his worst album. First buy Roots, Reality and Culture, then My Xperience, then 5th Element, but steer clear of this one.
It's simply wiiiiiiiiicked and confirms The Killa's status.......1999-10-28
AS the best at this time fi real. One love.I love it to the max.
This CD is great for all true reggae/dancehall fans........1999-08-19
Bounty Killer has done it again. Mr. Killer has once again proven why he is one of Jamaica's hottest DJ's. This album has it all. The album has some great beats to some even better lyrics. This is an album for real reggae/dancehall fans. Respect to Bounty Killer.

Pain Killer'z by Mr. Kane..........2007-03-03
Very solid album from Kokane (Mr. Kane)... In my opinion, that's his best album since "Funk Upon A Rhyme"!!!!
Best tracks are : Intro, Thugs Meet, How you want, Bird Fly South, Breathe my last breath and G Sense of Humor...
Buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pain Killer'z - Mature Funk .......2006-09-16
Kokane is a artist with a long and interesting history. From starting out working with his cousin Cold 187Um and Above The Law as well as legendary Eazy-E right after his college graduation, life has brought many ups and downs to the individual we know as Kokane, Mr. Kane or Jerry Long.
Despite being taken under Snoop Dogg's wing in 2000 (appearing on Dr. Dre's "The Chronic", Snoop's "Tha Last Meal" plus doing numerous cuts with Tha Eastsidaz) Kokane's unique style never really seemed to secure him any steady succes amongst mainstream (or casual if you will) rap fans.
Well the fans (often refered to as "krackers") love exactly THAT about Koka. The fact that he has never sold out to his style and has always kept adament about maintaining his unique personally through his music, only makes him the more relevant and interesting.
Needless to say, being a long time follower and admirer of Kokane's music, I was BEYOND excited about hearing this record. So was my wait worth all the excitement and abstinences? Find out in this review....
Intro - Kokane's best intro after the one on Take It Back To Da Clap, 3/5
1. Thugs Meet feat. Malia Franklin - very energetic track with Parliament member Malia Franklin, just starts the record of perfectly 4.5/5
2. Str8 How You Want feat. Nina Brown - a track with a very funky beat, Koka comes tight with his rapping 4.5/5
3. Birds Fly South feat. Pimpin Young & Lil Tragic - Birds Fly South is simply an amazing track with a very soulful beat. An instant classic 5/5
4. Fade feat. Suga Free & Young Prada - fellow Pomona inhabitant Suga Free joins Koka on this song, with a very fitting beat laced by Quaze 3.5/5
5. Pain Killer'z feat. Jayo Felony & Kam - The title track. The lyrics to this song carries a very profound message that might not be apparent at the first listen. Jayo fails to write a meaningful verse as Koka and Kam, 3.5/5
6. Glass On It feat. Young Bleeze & Young Prada - here we have the "casual pimp-song" that is just mandatory for almost every west coast rap album. Just plain fun, 3.5/5
7. Way You Do feat. Marv Dogg & Suga Free - great song, and especially Suga Free does a good job on this track, 4/5.
8. Breathe My Last Breath feat. Phil Campell (of Motor Head) - really good track with newcomer Bleeze, 4/5
9. Suga, Suga feat. Mamie Gun - Kokane sings like Rick James...GREAT!! 4/5
10. Tu A Mi Lado Lused Bien feat. Down - latin rapper Down trades verses with Kokane on this one, who also raps in Spanish. This song just has a great beat and an amazing feel to it, 4/5.
11. Don't Have Time To Waste - Koka takes time to reflect on life experiences on this one, 4/5.
12. Don't Stop feat. Lil Tragic & Bleeze - this track is another fun track, but with a twist...it's South!!! 3.5/5
13. Kodak Memories feat. Lil Tragic & Bleeze - amaaaazing track that just keeps getting better! 5/5
14. Your Number feat. Big Chan, Karma & Sharea - What a great track. Why is Kokane the only one who just kicks back and let the ladies shine?? Big Chan (Doggy's Angels), Karma and Sharea just spits some female raps on this while Koka lays low in the background. Dope. 4/5
15. Hard As Steel feat. George Clinton - Watch out for Kokane/George Clinton album called "Smell my Finger" coming next year!!!!
16. Mango feat. Mamie Gun - What a great track. Makes me feel like I have already found the woman of my dreams, 5/5
17. Change Gone Come feat. Syril - This positive track simply makes me shiver with every listen, and it gets better 5/5
18. G Sense of Humor - A very deep track, where Kokane basically reflects on his life and tells us to crack a smile no matter what we go through. A classic 5/5.
Outro - Kokane raps it all up, dope outro....
So what is the overall impression of this new Kokane/Mr. Kane record?? A classic that will only get better with time!!!

Customer Reviews:
I got this cd. . ........2001-07-27
Basically to get a feel for BK's style, because I hear him all the time on compilations and I was really interested in what a full fledged effort from him would sound like, and 5th Element was the highest recommended album that I could find. I wasn't dissapointed at all in this one, there are about 10 really good songs here, my personal favorite being the title track where BK just kills the flow. Also I like Bullz of Chicago, Eaden & Sheeden, Mr. Tear and Bore, and Lord of Da Warriors. I like his aggressive dancehall style, right up there with Capleton. Can't wait for the new record Ghetto Dictionary.
De Poor People's Governor Triumphs Again.......2000-05-17
After his dissapointing hip hop crossover album Next Millenium, Bounty returns to his dancehall roots with 5th Element. Both Anytime and Look which implore the downtown massive to rise up against babylon's corrupt politrix and have already become classics. A great display of de Killah's versatility, as the album includes Gun tunes, Gal tunes, conscious tunes... someting for every yute. Support the true Dancehall vibes and buy 5th Element, one of the top solo releases of the year...
excellent stuff.......2000-03-04
the cd is good.that is the best way to describe it
Supergreen CD Soundtrack.......2000-02-04
Yes, this is one CD that is quite possibly Eric Serra's best work and thank god, he got a film that fits his unique style of music perfectly. I must admit, I listen to Ruby Rap about 40 times before I became bored and moved to the next song. This CD has a orchestra and techno-mix with it. Don't understand? Well, imaging a nice orchestra mixed with some nice techo beats and a great flow of pure genius. He never fails to make a soundtrack that is great with the movie and great to listen to. I won't lie to you, I'm very proud to have this in my vast collection of music. In fact, it's number one on my list right now and I've had this CD for 2 years now. So, do yourself a favor and buy it, because your not reading this review just for the hell of it..are you? Your thinking about buying it so your reading the reviews. So buy it and listen to it and enjoy it.

who got dis cd.......2006-01-18
who wanna send deez tracks 2 me holla at me

the real no limit.......2005-05-05
i like this album a lot, Even though it is short and a few tracks aint really that good, but the ones that are, are tight. Brings back summertime memories. 'neighborhood dopeman' is my favourite, and the sample that was used was also used by d-shot, b-legit & e-40 in crooked cops. A million goes to anyone that can name it? lol. Anyway, definately get this if you want to hear what made master P good until things changed. And also, I would recommend 'Trus-True' 3rd album which is the best in my opinion with this one being third, then the first tru album 'understanding the criminal mind' which came out in 92 even though amazon says 94 second and blah blah blah. YOU choose!. But get this one too, its tight. Later!
Bathhouse Hit.......2004-10-13
This is an absolute fave down at the bathhouse, where it gets us willy boys rutting to an ill beat and generates the appropriate atmosphere of rough-trade menace we reginas find so thrilling. Some of us can't even get off without it. Word is that our bard of the backdoor, our tightass troubador, has paid a few visits to the Ramrod, and the stories they tell....
OFF DA CHAIN.......2004-06-14
I LOVE DIS TRU CD IT CAME OUT BACC IN 93' AND IT's HARD
MY FAVORITE SONG IS "WHOS's Da Killa" feat. C-Murder,Master P, Cali G, King George, Silk, and some other cats but get it if while u can cuz u can't find it in stores
Another classic undaground album!.......2000-04-19
TRU's 2nd album is off the hook! It's not as hard as Understanding The Criminal Mind but it was pretty close! The best songs are Who's Da Killer?, Neighborhood Dopeman, Talk About It, and Sweated By The Po Po's! If y'all see this anywhere(like in a local record store or something) buy it cuz this album is TIGHT!
