5 out of 5 stars The Best Heavy D Album Period.......2006-01-24

I've been fortunate to have kept up with "The Overweight Lover" all these years but undoubtedly this CD stands out as not only his best, but a classic five mic album. This is when rap was fun and it wasn't all about nonsense beefs (see Game/50 cent, Nas/Jay-Z, Lil Kim/Foxy Brown), this was a time where if you couldn't rap, or you couldn't freestyle and step up to the plate when called out, you're career is done. Not like today where mushmouth rappers (50 cent & G-Unit, Fabulous, MA$E, and all the rest of those mushmouth, winey rappers we have today)can live large off one CD. Back then when it came to lyrics, Heavy D was right there in talent with the Big Daddy Kane's, KRS-One's, Chuck D's, Kool G. Rap's, D.O.C.'s, Ice Cube's, Biz Markie's, LL Cool J's, Kool Moe Dee's, Run DMC's of the worlds where skills actually made or broke your career, not crossover radio play. Where back then, it was frowned upon by other rap artists and fans alike for an artist to strictly make records to cross over. However with Heavy D, not only was he lyrically gifted, and had bangin tracks that radio just couldn't ignore to party to, but was one of the first rappers to incorporate reggae lyrics (him being of Jamaican descent) into his songs (Check out "Mood For Love"). While Run DMC shattered the charts with "My Adidas", Heavy was shattering the streets with "NIKE" just when the ORIGINAL Air Force One's was coming into their own. There's not a bad cut on this LP at all and Gyrlz They Love Me, is probably the banginest track on here.

Just to add one more piece to the Heavster's legacy, I can never think of one rap artist that ever had a foul thing or a bad thing or diss to say about Heavy D. Which is extremely rare in today's so-called rap climate. That goes to show not only the respect this man garnered from his peers, but he also gave that same respect back. This is what hip-hop was supposed to be about, being original, being skillful with the raps, and staying true to you without having to sellout.

5 out of 5 stars 5 stars for Hev Diddly Diddly Diddly D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-12-27

Before I go into a review of this classic, I'm gonna give props where props are do. First and foremost, Heavy D is probably the most criminally underrated rapper ever second to Grand Puba Maxwell. This brother was the complete package ( Versatile lyricist, Likeable Personality, Articulate, Original, could dance and got the girls.) It takes balls to be different, Hev proved that you make classic songs without being vulgar. Back to the review, Big Tyme ruled in the summer of "89". With Teddy Riley's production,Dapper Dan suits and patented leather shoes, Eddie F on the wheels of steel, G Whiz and T-Roy to the left and right, Hev was and still is the Man!

4 out of 5 stars Back when it was fun..........2005-11-22

to be down with Hip hop that wasn't about Killing or Murder, or how hard you fronting, sex, or how iced out you are. This was just about the groove, provided by my Man Teddy'New Jack 'Riley. For a Big Man, Heavy couldn't half move, and on this Joint there's alot to move to. Form Flexin, to Big tyme, more Bounce(Zapp sampled)to my own personable fav'You ain't heard nothin' yet'.Any New Jack fan needs this in their collection. My Favourite Heavy D and the Boyz CD.

5 out of 5 stars Heavy D at his best.......2004-04-27

Between this and his much later 'Blue Funk' were really the height of Heavy D's career.

This is a feel good rap/hip-hop from back in the day and I can say after all these years I can still listen to this album and enjoy it. Time hasn't fased it's quality or catchyness.

If you're into oldskool this CD is a gem.

5 out of 5 stars Heavy D lights it up.......2002-12-08

Every song on this album is good, and many are superb. It's fun hip-hop music that makes you want to get up and dance; no slow tunes here. Though not profound, Heavy D's rhymes are clever and he is a master of articulation. This is by far my favorite Heavy D album.

5 out of 5 stars Classic.......2004-11-01

This album is a classic. The songs all flow together so it's kind of hard to rate each song, but my favorite songs are Cloverland, Sippin' Codine, and Smokin' and Leanin'. I bought All Work No Play and was dissapointed, so I'd definitely recommend this over that. It's the best album I've gotten in a long time. It kind of grew on me.

4 out of 5 stars Getting DJ SCREW.......2002-05-19

To anyone that really lives in Houston Texas, you know all the places to get screw. Amazon has done a good job on getting his mixes out there to the world. 3 in the morning, is a good cd, own a copy, but the Screws mixes on Point Blank is the best, if you like this album you will definitly like the point blank mix. It is hard to get, but if you (really) live in Houston you can find it, don't listen to screw like I used to got older but still good to kick back to once in a while.

5 out of 5 stars 3'n the mornin', part 2 by dj screw.......2001-11-16

DJ Screw was the best and still is the best at makin' screw tapes. The "Godfather" and pioneer of screw is and will always be
DJ Screw. I suggest ya'll buy this cause it's the best one out and also very rare to get cause it's one of his first C.D.'s!! I suggest ya'll buy whatever DJ Screw stuff you can get your paws on cause the late, great DJ Screw deserves the respect that is due! S O U T H E A S T H O U S T O N !!!

    5 out of 5 stars Tha Beginning.......2004-03-17

For those who put DJ Screw down and saying that Micheal Watts is better doesn't know the game as well as yall think. First of all you have to come in the game with your own style and not use someone else's. I'm not hating on Micheal Watts but Screw did that. He paid the way for many Texas rappers that was trying to get into the door. For those who become so well known off of others invention is much of a non maker for me. I'll always be old school for those who are real with there game. Screw will always be the man and will always hold that title, ( THE LEGEND ) so for all get with it. To be a sucess you have to find your own sucess, and for the ones who steal will always follow. You dig what I'm saying. Some CD's are not as high rated some wanted them to be, but as a person and skills to lead and help others to not follow, one of the Souths best and well above Watts. Its not always how you make your music, its who and Y, (not all about the money sometimes/ Have you ever thought about the love of the music). Peep the game and where it came form before misjudging it.

4 out of 5 stars good but not his best.......2003-12-19

this wasnt one of his best but it still was pretty good. To the guy that said dj michael "5000 watts" was better doesnt know screw at all. 1st off Dj Screw started it all so in my view 5000 watts is a biter and all his records are weak. every member or the S.U.C could freestyle all the rappers that came from there like lil keke,ESG,fat pat,big moe, Al-D have all great rap albums and are mainstream, and know one can chop and screw like the inventor himself DJ Screw get all of the albums you can. The cd title tells all "the legend" nobody well ever be better than screw just like nobody will be a better rapper than 2pac. this is a pretty good cd like his others when you are at that "other level"

I am hereby advising any potential buyers to steer clear of this product, unless you 100% know what you're getting yourself into.

I was surprised to find out that there were so many copies of this floating around now (not to mention that it seems you can order it straight from Amazon,) but upon receiving the package in mail, I now realize why is that.

This new repress of this album is quite simply a pressed cd-r with crappy printed one-sided covers. Of course, I could try to pursue getting my money back, but I'm not about spending time to send cheap cd-r's back from Finland, so I gleefully shall swallow my loss and use this opportunity to notify any other hopefuls of what's happening here.

This is one of my favorite Point Blank albums...but I can't find it anywhere. I tried ordering it but amazon spent months but couldn't get it, so my order is cancelled. So far I only got this cd burned, but i don't want real audio quality, I want cd quality, so if anyone has a unit they can sell, put it up on this site. i'd appreciate it.

This is a great album and it is better if not just as good as Prone to Bad Dreams.

4 out of 5 stars Point Blank never disappoints!.......2000-08-03

Point Blank is one of Hip Hop's best kept secret outside the South, and that is a shame because he is a truly gifted lyricist. His voice and style is unique, no matter who's track you're listening to, you'll recognize him when he blesses the track with a verse, like a Method Man of the south. After releasing three incredible albums and a lot of guest appearances on other rapper's projects I hope this album, his fourth, will make PB blow up worldwide. I have to say that this is the freshest album I've heard out of Houston this year. PB continues with the style and lyrics that we all love and manages to update his production to a 2000-level without sounding like a pioneer using new copycat producers to appeal to the club audience. You have the South Park style shining throughout the whole album. I'm not sure which is my favorite track but the guitar-laced Southside Groovin is a strong candidate. As always the album has a posse track where every rapper in the SPC drops a rhyme. These tracks are often a bit boring, but Slipped Into A Coma part II is great. There is one thing that annoys me with a lot of rap albums these days and that's the use of previously released tracks on rapper's new albums. If the tracks are used on compilations it's OK, but I think it's a sin to use tracks from your own albums just to make the back sleeve read "18 cuts" or more. Unfortunately this is the case here as well. I'll say it's OK to make a new version of High With The Blanksta and R U Ready 2 Die including new verses and guest rappers, and it's OK to make a remix of I Wish from the Wrekless Klan album. But it's not OK to include tracks from the former album no matter how great they were! That's why I give this CD four stars and not five. But after all I love this CD. Point Blank has the skills and lyrics to brighten up any day and he does so on this album.
