    Album Description

Just back from a bangin' 10-city European tour the Platinum Pied Pipers release their debut album "Triple P" before stepping right back out on USA and Canadian dates. From humble beginnings as guests on a Rewind! compilation two years ago to releasing the soundtrack to the summer of 2005 the Platinum Pied Pipers have made many new friends with their on-stage antics and essential new twist on modern hip hop and soul. The dynamic PPP duo is made up of Waajeed, a collaborator with Jay Dee and Dwele and a founding member of Slum Village, and Saadiq a music student of Motown-er Barrett Strong. Their unique sound is both a polished and catchy but also edgy and raw blend of Detroit hip-hop and soul. Guests include Jay Dee, Spacek and SA-RA Creative Partners to the heavily featured home-grown talents of Tiombe Lockhart, Georgia and Invincible.

    Customer Reviews:

    4 out of 5 stars Motown goodness.......2007-03-27

I've been hearing PPP and Waajeed-related tracks for the last couple years, and I finally remembered to order this disc. It's a solid album end-to-end, and refreshing to hear a variety of vocalists. Invincible is great on "Detroit Winter" and so is Tiombe Lockhart on her tracks. This is a great bridge between the hip-hop sounds of Jaydee, Slum Village etc. and the more out-there electronic soul compositions of Moodymann (Kenny Dixon Jr.), Theo Parrish, and the Mahogani Music label. This will be in my car for a long time. Would love to catch these guys live if they ever make it to Miami.

I give it 4/5 only because I'm not a fan of Jaydee on the microphone. Otherwise it's a masterpiece.

    4 out of 5 stars It's P, P, and also P.......2005-10-17

I had never even heard of the Platinum Pied Pipers until a month or so ago, when I was looking at another website and it discussed the duo as an artist on the rise. I was surprised to find that my local library had this album, Triple P, but I picked it up and I must say that I'm having a hard time putting it down.

For those that don't know, Platinum Pied Pipers (Waajeed and Saadiq) are the producers that drive this album. The guest stars on here probably won't ring a bell to most, but that's quite all right because the songs are pretty damn good. My favorite song would have to be "Deep Inside" (with Sa-Ra Creative Partners), which sounds like it rides a video game-inspired beat (specifically, Sonic the Hedgehog 1). And "The Pee's" is creative, where every bar begins with a word that starts with the letter "P" (people may say that seems corny, but hey, y'all weren't complaining when Tupac did it).

Another good song is a song that appears to be a favorite among other listeners as well, "Detroit Winter". The songs features a femcee by the name of Invincible, and I agree with the people that compared her to Jean Grae (it's too bad Rawkus Records isn't around any more; she would've fit right in). But singers also impress, like Rogier on the remake of Paul Simon's "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" and Zeno on "Fever".

Some people didn't like it when Jay Dee got on the mic for "Act Like You Know", but the only problem I have with that song is the chorus. "Lights Out" is also pretty okay (well, the third verse, anyway), but those aspects don't get in the way of the rest of the album. It would be nice if this album from Platinum Pied Pipers was indeed platinum, so pick it up and help it get there.

    4 out of 5 stars Needs 2 go platinum.......2005-10-12

You know in the vastness of space that is the music realm usually you don't find much, but I got to say, triple P are stars being born. Pick it up, refreshing, funky, and most importantly far from the generic, the generic mainstream, the generic underground, triple p ... is how do you say, creative. Me likes. And me thinks you will as well.

4 out of 5 stars What pleasure sounds like..........2005-09-27

Very good album. Tight production and well seletcted vocals. An excellent balance of hip-hop & soul.

    My favorites:

Stay with Me (Feat. Tiombe Lockhart)
Now or Never (feat. Tiombe Lockhart)
    One Minute More (feat. Georgia)

4 out of 5 stars Perfectly Powerful Production.......2005-08-31

Yowza! I didn't know what to expect from this since I had nothing to go on but the pub given by ?uestlove of The Roots. Yet and still, since The Roots are my favorite group of all time, I had to pick it up. Not disappointed in the least.

One thing to notice about this CD is that almost everyone that is singing or rapping is virtually unknown. Doesn't matter though, cause every song captures your attention. Wajeed and his crew have carefully mixed the elements of hip-hop and R&B into a masterful array of mood intense magic.

    Standouts:
'Lights Out' feat. Ta'Raach & Georgia is a nice punch to the dome, and really leaves you wanting to hear more. 'Detroit Winter' is a refreshing rap from female MC Invincible. '50 Ways to Leave Your Lover' is a great remake by Rogier, and probably my favorite song on the album. Also check out 'The Pees' with Ta'Raach.

    Beats:
Everything is slamming. Once again I was impressed by the production immediately, and although it is a different sort of work than you have heard before, don't think you won't like it. Give it a bite and it will definitely reel you in.

    Lasting appeal:
Hard not to like it. Most cats will look at the cover and say "Hmmm, haven't seen them on MTV, they must suck." Couldn't be further from the truth. Some people need to take off their blinders and run free with the rest of the herd instead of being taken by the mainstream cowboys. Get hip, because this is what you will be seeing in the upcoming years. I'm telling you now, these cats are on it.
    ~Ward Prefect

"Either bundle up or burn rubber, cause if you can't handle the winter, you don't deserve summer." -Invincible on 'Detroit Winter'

    3 out of 5 stars old school.......2005-07-10

LAPD - the chilis meet primus meet faith no more with a burning desire to be ROCKSTARS and wanted to look for a bigger label, they kicked out there original singer richard because he didnt want to get off the xxx label. the scene in Bako was starting to get harder and they wanted to get a harder sound. they created a new demo and were starting to call themselves the "crunchtaters" there was a band called Iconoclasm also playing in Bakersfield, that brian welch did some lead guitars for they only did a 4 song demo. LAPD/crunchtaters wanted the Iconoclasm singer to sing because he had a harder vocal style, he was putting it off, they found jonathon who was playing for a band called sex art and picked up brian welch and they became korn. the LAPD was cool for it's time, but they were definitely borrowing heavily from everyone else's style, just like they took a bite from Cradle of Thorns who by far had the "KORN" style long before, but props to them for going huge. LAPD who's laughing now is a fun album, some catchy riffs, great drumming and "Gar" / fieldy came from "garfield" Reggies early handle is defining his patented bass sound, but nothing like korn sound

5 out of 5 stars The Origins Of Korn.......2005-03-07

As any self respecting Korn fan should know, before there was Korn came L.A.P.D. (short for Love And Peace Dude). L.A.P.D. consists of where-is-he-now vocalist Richard Morales and current Korn members James "Munky" Shaffer, Fieldy, and David Silveria (contrary to popular belief, Brian "Head" Welch wasn't an official member). So it's essential listening for anyone who loves Korn. Does it sound anything like Korn, you may ask? Hell no. L.A.P.D. aren't exactly original, and listening to this album is like a time-warp, back to the late 80's/early 90's. They combine all the obvious influences such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Suicidal Tendencies and Faith No More, and throw in a little bit of old-school Metallica for good measure. Overall, it's a mish-mash of genres going on, so the CD never gets boring, as they always take an unexpected turn. Richard Morales spends half the disc rapping, and the rest either yelling or growling. He is a fitting vocalist for this type of music, I wonder what ever became of him? Fieldy, Munky and David have just as much chemistry on here as they showed in later efforts, and Munky even churns out a few riffs that would later be used for the first Korn album (listen carefully). Also, it's interesting to hear him tackle some solos and show a little more proficiency at guitar than most people give him credit for. Skills which will serve him well, as Korn is now head-less and he is the lone guitar player for the band. Some highlights of the collection (which is a re-release of their debut "Who's Laughing Now" with three extra tracks tacked on) include "P.M.S.," "Don't Label Me," "Jesus" (which was later covered by Videodrone), and the odd, yet addictive disco-wannabe "Slicky Slixter." Overall, a very nostalgic and different listen for a Korn fan. I highly recommend this CD, even if you don't like Korn but are interested in the bands that influenced them. L.A.P.D. are definitely missing the harder, darker edge that Jonathan Davis brought to the table with Korn, so just listen with an open mind. Actually, forget this whole review, let it just be known that any band that samples the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" forever has my respect!

    1 out of 5 stars Terrible.......2004-07-12

I Love Korn. David Silvera is a great drummer, Fieldy has a great style of bass playing, which I am disapointed because his style isn't found here and James "Munky" Shaffer is a great guitarist.

Simply stated....I wouldn't recomend LAPD to anyone. Even the biggest Korn fan. It's mostly a Funk-Rock cd. A few of the songs are 4/10. The rest are 0/10 for me.

4 out of 5 stars Keep An Open Mind.......2004-04-28

You need to keep an open mind about this record. It sounds NOTHING like Korn WHATSOEVER. It is quite good, and has a very stron classic rock vibe. This album isn't earth shattering, but very enjoyable to listen to. If you are a Korn fan (which is mot likely how you got wind of this CD.) and you don't mind putting in some Led Zeppelin from time to time, you may enjoy this CD. The Vocalist sounds similar to Kill 'Em All era James Hetfield, that's the best way to describe him. Also, it is nice to hear some lead guitar from a Korn guitarist. Their isn't a whole lot of it, but it is nice to hear. Also, Munky not only Slaps the bass hear, but also Pops! Also, there is female (back-up) vocals on a track and a horn on another track. I would suggest that you aquire this album. It's pretty good and makes a nice, enjoyable, addition to anyone's CD collection.

4 out of 5 stars Korn befor Korn, eh........2003-06-19

I really don't like Korn that much, in fact I hate them. But this is a nice piece of funk metal. A lot of it reminds me of Mosley era Faith No More with a little thrash thrown in. Even if you don't like Korn you should check this out.

if you've lived in vegas lately, somehow you've probably heard of Qadeer (or Q). this is street poetry ready to hit a club or pumped out of a low-rider. the song in and of themselves are a report, a news report or an autobiography. The beats prove on their own that music doesnt have to come from a neptunes studio to be hot, the lyrics leave little to be desired and sometimes you even have to press the rewind button o.0 to fully understand the intracate punches (a lost art today). heres my break down song by song

          1. intro- "yeah motha flippin right"
          2. can you belive it- yes i believe it! song brings you in on his journey as an artist 4/5

          3. pandemonium - " take a walk inside of my lil journey/ full of lawsuit cases and criminal attorneys/" "knock on my door before 11 o clock/ u bill collectors better know how to box/" 3/5

          4. holiday - "should've quit laughin got my head out them clouds and down in them books" everybody needs an escape some days, and thats the emotion this song conveys nearly flawlessly 3/5

          5. my city - "borin me thinkin im paid but i cant fill up my car" club ready to the fullest, beat bangs, flow is impeckable, the best song lil' flip was ever on.

          6. my ladies - "if i ever was crazy lady its cause of you" "i dont want in no relationship that takes too much risk plus a knife in the back aint that nuitritious" 4/5

          7. barbershop - another great beat, "you can dream about havin a navi-gator/ but i just got my back rent paid up/" 5/5 real street/club bringing a long seperated gap

          8. burnin' - i dont know, who sings the hook, but the mans got style "you so fine you can even hold my keys/ but its a cold cruel world watch for betrayal disease/" 3.5/5

          9. show respect - qadeer doesnt rap on this song, just the hook "homie will u please recognize game/ show respect for me and ill do the same thing/" 2/5

          10. skit - good old hasseling by the police

          11. out tonight - one of the worst beats on the cd, some of the best lyrics. " you got diffrent kinds of people some will take you on maury and say i f---ed your girl can we still be friends? homie im kinda sorry" 4/5

          12. die famous - probably the best song on the cd "yall gon' know what my name is/ even if in life i dont die famous/ see me in the city lights underneath vegas/ and my only downfall is killas and traitors/" 5/5

          13. dear abby - reminds me of "brendas got a baby" moving song "uncle (cant remember the name)is having problems with life/ everynight he sneaks in abbys room and hit the lights/ she didnt even put up a fight/" 5/5

          14. didnt do it - qadeers worst performance "ill run into your radio station with a machete/ and make u cut to commercial"
          2/5

          15. ride and roll "i came along way from nothin/ now i got people close to me and i ride and roll forever/" 3.5/5

          16. love jones - "relationships leave emotional scars and im proof" real real real 5/5

          17. glory - pretty decent song 3/5

18- make your move worst on album 1/5

          19. out of society - 1 of the best, must hear 5/5

          20 hero- must hear 5/5
