Take a look at the running times:

Disc 1: 60 minutes
Disc 2: 50 minutes
Disc 3: 61 minutes
Disc 4: 58 minutes

What gives Silva? There is *MUCH* more John Williams in the silva screen back catalogue by the Prague Philharmonic than what is in this set, and thats not including their entire discs devoted to Star Wars Films, Indiana Jones Trilogy etc. Why isn't Hook "When You're Alone" included on Disc 2? There's room. Why isn't 1941 on Disc 1? There's room. Why isn't Earthquake on Disc 3? There's room. Why isn't Far and Away on disc 4? There's room. Where's the other ten minutes of the Rare Breed suite on disc 3? Why isn't Midway on disc 1? Where are the Land of the Giants, Time Tunnel and Lots In Space tv themes? Etc. Etc. Etc.

C'mon Silva, most of these 4 disc mega boxes released in the past few years are packed to the brim, but not this one, and with new recordings made after this was released (the terminal, munich, geisha, war of the worlds, star wars ep 3, harry potter 3), it only makes sense for a "re-do" in the next couple of years.

Further, with Silva releasing the 100 Greatest Film Themes on six discs in a couple of months, it's only a matter of time before we see the ultimate six disc john williams set.

This isn't a BAD set to own, but it could have been much better and when compared to the Jerry Goldsmith and John Barry sets in this same series, this one is a major letdown.

I listen to music all day with patients in my dental chair. This one is a winner with everyone. Patients always comment on how they recognize a song. Who doesn't love John Williams? His music transcends time.

This 4 cd pack is an anthology of all John Williams works. From his earlier works "The Poseidon Adventure" and "Jaws" right through "Indiana Jones" and the most recent"Star Wars" prequel movies are included. Williams work in thriller and horror are also included. If you are into soundtracks and love movie music this is an essential buy. The quality of the music is excellent. With ten or more tracks on each cd it's well worth the money.

This four CD set expands on the previously released John Williams Greatest Hits. It's a grand collection of nearly four hours of famous music scores from over forty years. There are many songs never before available in any collection. The short liner notes tell a great tale of musical movie history and include all of his numerous award nominations and wins. Each song (oddly enough) mentions the actors and the director, so fond are John Williams's memories of his work with these people. All of the conductors are mentioned along with specific orchestras, choirs, arrangement and orchestration specialists and even the publishers (contractual, I am sure). The only things missing are his early television scores, such as those for "Lost In Space" (by Johnny Williams back then). But with four discs, one has nothing to complain about and everything to enjoy!

I have been a huge fan of John Williams and I have known about his music for years. However, I never actually bought any of his music on CD. I was rather skeptical about purchasing this CD but when it arrived I knew I had made the right choice. The sound quality of the compilation is outstanding. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra do a great job under the direction of Paul Bateman. The original London Symphony Orchestra CDs of John Williams' Star Wars Trilogy CDs are marginally better but this is still a great CD compilation. If you love ET, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter, you will love this compilation soundtrack. Buy it, listen to these CDs in the car and enjoy every minute of the collection!!!

I just had to write a review and say that this CD did take me to another level in praising and worshipping the Lord. This is one of those CD's where you can tell that Israel has an intimacy with Christ and he has not held back how he honors the Lord with his gift of music. Also, I was privileged to be at a Worship & the Word Conference with my former church where Israel did not only minister in concert but he spent time teaching us how to worship the Lord. Israel I would like to thank you for that. I love how Israel & New Breed allowed the Holy Spirit to breathe on this project but most of all on their hearts. For those of you that buy this CD your level of worship and desire for greater intimacy with Christ will deepen.

Israel & New Breed are just too bad. I just saw them in Charleston, SC on May 5th and what a wonderful experience to get the real live version.

Israel Houghton has upped the ante for modern praise and worship with "Live From Another Level." He has written and arranged some astounding pieces of music, and surrounded himself with an incredibly talented group of individuals to help him usher the people at this concert into a place of wonder and awe at the feet of God.

The arrangement of "Here I Am to Worship" is worth the price of admission alone, but thankfully the rest of the two discs are just as good.

Israel's biracial background and New Breed's multicultural makeup are creating an incredible hybrid of gospel and modern praise and worship music, and they have truly created a classic album with "Live From Another Level."

This album is an absolute must have!!!! Israel has got to be one of the most annointed praise and worship leaders (let's not forget New Breed because they are powerful as well). I've had the honor of seeing them minister, in an amusement park no less, and the spirit of God moved in such a mighty way. That just proves that when you're annointed it doesn't matter where you are, the mountain top or valley low, God will move as you minister. Live from Another Level is a cherished collectible too. Powerful man of God!!!!

This is the best live gospel album I've ever heard! It's very uplifting and soulful. Israel has a beautiful voice that is enhanced by his amazing choir. I also love the range of genres that Israel included in this album. This is a must-buy!

one may notice the similarities between israel haughton and fred hammond. that is quite simple to explain.

the same singers, and possibly musicians.

mr. haughton, himself, was actually working with fred hammond in the past. why they no longer are together eludes me, but that is trivial.

having heard mr. haughton sing up close and personally, i hold him in high esteem. he's among my favorite singers and arrangers. this album, however, disappointed me slightly. the upbeat praise tracks, 'who is like the lord' through 'trading my sorrows,' show an original flavor. one that may OCCASIONALLY resemble a carribean style. through these, you see that he and new breed have been blessed with the ability to reach beyond the racial boundaries that separate CCM and more urban gospel music. ['trading my sorrows' is a spicy cover of a song from the 'other side of religious music,' if you will.]

after that track, i'm lost, unfortunately. the rest of the album tends to sound cliché, almost like a desparate attempt at sounding contemporary. when one puts effort into making a certain sound, it can come off as insincere, so i recommend tracks one through four on this album.

    I was a casual fan of the Jam until this album came out back in 1982. The studio efforts I had heard up to that point were good but seemed to lack that special spark that would make them great. This album doesn't have a spark, its on fire! The Jam are one of the few bands that sound so much better live, they seem to feed of the audience and let go of any inhibitions or restraints they seem to have in the studio. The three song set from The Hammersmith Palais: Start, Big Bird and Set the House Ablaze build on each other at a fiery tempo you think is impossible to maintain but they do it. Paul Weller's breathless acoustic version of That's Entertainment is the best ever of that great song. This is one of my all time favorite albums and I am so glad it is available again on CD.

    Seeing the Jam many times throughout their life in New York it was quite a disappointment when this highly emotional heartfelt band of UK individualists broke up.
    Coming at it's wake was this album of live cuts giving a total picture of a band performance creating a live atmosphere of a Jam gig.

    1982 was the year of release and with performances ranging from 1977 this CD culled great performances from locations throughout
    their run.
    The tracks/set list here comprises 14 songs giving a good sampling of their evolution from the fast and furious guitar attack of it's earlier days to their later r&b infected days sandwiched within the serious sincerity of play as the latter day torch bearers of the earlier generation of bands such as the Faces,Who and Kinks..

    This album holds a very special place for me. I love how it is praise and worship cd but it has a very urban r&b flava to it. The cd is definately very inspiring - to make you feel good and get you in he presence of God. Would definately recommend this cd to both young and old!

    My favourite track on the albun would have to be "Taste and See." Wow- what a track!

    WOW.......That's what I thought when I first heard this CD. I had only heard of Israel & New Breed fleetingly (my sister would go on & on about them and I didn't know what the big deal was), but that was before I liked to worship. If you love to worship The Lord, get their first CD. If you wanna hear a CD with an Andrae Crouch/Earth Wind & Fire mix, with worship thrown in, get this CD. The album had the help of mastermind Tommy Sims (click on my name to see my take on his debut album), he was the guy behind CeCe Winans Everlasting Love CD. He actually wrote the song "Everlasting Love". Anyway, he was responsible for the Andrae Crouch/Earth Wind & Fire vocal arrangement, and wrote some songs on this album. The guy's phenomenal.

    Every song on this album is great. When you hear the first song "Better", then you'll know what I'm talking about when I say the CD has a Andrae Crouch/Earth Wind & Fire feel. "Bout It, Bout It" is one of the funkiest gospel songs I've heard in a while. My favourite ,"Go Back", is a slow ballad speaking about coming back to the Lord as our true first love. Excellent! "Dont Want To Leave/I Still Love You" is a medley and I just love the way one song slides into another so effortlessly.

    I could go right down the list and say good about every song, because the album is THAT GOOD! Your collection is not complete without this album.

    VIOLENT NEW BREED is without a doubt one of the ten best albums I have ever heard, and I listen to a lot of music. Shotgun Messiah started off as a hair metal band, and a pretty good one at that. But with VNB, we see the definitive paradigm of industrial heavy metal. The album itself gives new meaning to both sophistication and aggression, but what Shotgun Messiah has here that makes VNB so superior to everything before it, and everything that came after it (Ministry, KMFDM, Sister Machine Gun, Nine Inch Nails, Stabbing Westward, and so forth) is an uncompromising sense of melody. All the tracks rage hard and fast, but underneath them all is a strong connection to classic, hands in the air arena rock. Beneath all distortion and audio effects, you can actually hum along to "Jihad," and have to fight the urge to bust out your best air guitar skills during the bridge/solo in the titular "Violent New Breed." The majority of industrial rock is tone deaf and too wrapped up in the mystique of adding oppressive layers of sheer noise just to create that "industrial sound." In contrast, VNB maintains a keen connection to classic acts like AC/DC, lending tracks like the aforementioned "Jihad" the same kind of light-on-its-feet rock'n roll feel of "Shoot To Thrill." VIOLENT NEW BREED is a rare beast, and these days finding a copy can be difficult, but fans of this genre and music collectors with a taste for the premium stuff, it's undoubtedly worth it. Shotgun Messiah rocks, and VIOLENT NEW BREED is an album worthy of iconic status.

    I should start by pointing out that I was a child of the '80s, and a diehard guitar freak, so I went through every rock music trend there was...I knew this band both before and after this album, and I must say, this is the only Shotgun Messiah album that matters, and an industrial milestone that should have mattered, but didn't.

    Let's face it kids, hard rock (especially glam rock and hair metal) pretty much sucked. Sure, it had hooks, but it was basically cheesy. When the nineties hit, they really did pop music a favor in a lot of ways....Shotgun took a drastic step in the right direction, dropped the "Oooh baby" schtick of their previous efforts, got pissed and put out a NIN-meets-hard-rock and metal album. Does it work? I'll tell you what, this disc is a permanent fixture in my CD collection, and I have worn out 3 copies. KMFDM and Ministry only wish they could have grooved like this...it is much better than a lot of the popular industrial bands of the '90s. A forgotten classic, mixing elements of rock, industrial and electronica, metal and good-old fashioned American anti-establishment angst. I'll always love this album on those days when you just want to be mad about something....classic!

    Ill be honest. I didnt expect much from this album. Don't get me wrong, I loved MDMFK, but I just wasnt sure if Tim could survive on his own. Well I was wrong....very wrong. An adrenaline packed thrill ride from start to finish. These songs start fast and never stop pounding. Sure, some of them do kinda sound similar, but i'll be honest I didn't care. A great album to blast in your car with all the windows rolled down and a great album to show your friends. I'd recommend this album to anyone and everyone, my new favorite headbanger. ;)

    SM were originally touted as a hair metal hard rock act. They failed to find success beyond a string of photos in Metal Edge magazine. And every pretty boy pop metal act achieved that, didn't they? Well the bands first album, apparently released while they were still called Kingpin, was called Welcome to Bop City, their second disc Second Coming followed (Kerrang magazine once called it a 'god among records') and then there was the mini LP I Want More.

    But the real history of this album starts with the major personnel changes that rocked the band and it's direction as low and behold this is a proto industrial album. I say proto because industrial metal was still open for futher definition in '94. But Shotgun Messiah certainly give it the ol' college try.

    The vocals are cutting, the do fire. Of course they are heavily treated and so lose a lot of expression but that's the sub genre in a nutshell isn't it? The 'drumming' attack is certainly persistent but musically it's the guitars that are so nagging, they just don't let up. On some songs they are more like guitar textures - quite reminiscent of NIN. Other tracks are somewhat more conventional in their guitar assault. This is a nice variation and adds mobility to the music. As for the subject matter - well it's undustrial metal and the album title is Violent New Breed - you figure it out.

    Do not buy this album if you liked their early hard rock direction unless your prepared for a shock. Archivists of industrial metal should pick this up, it got missed in the first flush of industrial releases. For the casual hard rock fan there isn't a lot here, there are no lyrics as part of the package, heck you don't even get to find out the names of the two guys that made up S/M at this stage. No communication doesn't exactly inspre the newcomer to connect to the band.

    But the riffs do shred. Check out track 6..... almost four stars this one and that's from a guy that normally hates industrial.

    I snagged this disc as soon as it came out. Let me tell you. I am going to give this five(wish I could give it 500)stars for several reasons. First the Quality of this disc is so far above anthing I have ever heard. I have had my copy for almost 15 years and it is old and scratched to hell. It plays louder and better than any new release out there. Bet my life on it. Second. This is the fourth disc by these guys. Yes Kingpin was a little on the sissie side, but this is a sound that should not have been ignored. I do not like industrial music. I think Sampling sucks. I hate bands like NIN and all those other no count screwheads that cant play so they push the button. But Skold and company had clearly proven themselves by releasing this monster. I Love this disc and try as I may I can not find anything that comes close to it. As far as the snotwad that says Tim Skold sounds like he is singing in a bottle or from a well. Well let me see, there is a such thing as sound effects and I honestly believe that is what he was going for. HEHE What a dork!
    This disc is without a doubt the musical lost city of Atlantis. Along with Spread Eagle who why for the life of me did not get a break either. Well Messiah did, but they self destructed in the end.
    This is the disc to have, this is where it is at and this is the core of raw and creative purity. A GEM

    This christmas cd made my Christmas holiday beautiful. I played the whole cd over and over again and it brought great joy and delight to all who visited my home throughout the holiday season. Israel needs to be encouraged to do more cd's like this one. He sounds so good with an orchestra behind him.

    The voice of the new generation of praise and worshippers is at it again. This cd was great. all of the arrangements are classic on each song, but the kicker was the Nutcracker Interludes! Electric guitars, thumping bass, a tight drum beat (that never leaves the pocket!)... I could go on and on. The "Christmas Worship Medley" leaves tears in your eyes, "Sonny Boy Christmas" makes you smile, and Lalah Hathaways voice on this cd is spectacular! The guest really added to the cd!! I loved it and so will you!!

    Israel's CD is one of the best CDs I've heard. I've loved Gospel, Jazz, Classical for years. This CD has many types of music creatively and fabulously packaged into one production! My kids love it! We love it! I've shared this CD with several others who absolutely love it!

    It is an anointed PRODUCTION that will impact people from all "walks of life!"

    Try listening to this and not moving. You can't! The arrangements and musicians are truly wonderful. After just one listen through I found myself humming "Everybody Knows." There are some sounds reminiscent of Earth, Wind and Fire and one song even brought "Thriller" to mind. This is definitely one to add to your collection.

    One of the best in recent years, this shows you how Praise and Worship (P&W) should be done. It is also a reason for actually increasing the amount of memory a CD can hold, because this album requires that you listen to both CDs in the set (this is a double disc CD, so if you just got one, something's wrong). The praise on the first album is great, but the worship experience on the second CD is still one of the best in my recent memory. It starts with 'Friend of God' and remains riveting for ten different songs that prepare you for 'Going To Another Level,' which ends this CD on a high note. Basically, the sequence of songs on this CD set is brilliant, the songs chosen for this project are quite appropriate for the theme, and the artists stay within the framework of the concept so well that the CD can be enjoyed with no skipping (Bishop Garlington's parts included). There is no standout great song on this CD that demands more attention than any other, and there are no poor songs that seem to be filler. This is a great ALBUM, a CD set that many claim to make but few have accomplished. Every song blends with the next and makes it better, and the whole is definitely more than the sum of it parts. If you have time to experience the whole of this praise and worship offering to the Lord, GET THIS CD SET. It is extremely driveable and it ushers you right in to the front pew for some much needed P&W.

    If you are a member of the Impact Movement I know that you are making some noise over this CD. I heard Isreal in concert last month at our annual conference and I was SO BLESSED. I literally had to step away from the crowd and get on my knees and then on my face just talk to God (okay it was more like loud sobs, but God understood). Israel has a wonderful testimony and New Breed brings life, praise, vitality, and sincere love for the Lord to this ministry. I would not sleep on ANY of his CD's. Don't think twice, just order.

    I thought 'New Season' and 'Real' couldn't be topped, but I was wrong. Israel and New Breed will definitely take you to a place called 'THERE' - the very presence of Almighty God! This album is beyond awesome and phenomenal - I'm not sure how to describe it. You will not be disappointed if you purchase it. You will never tire of listening to the songs - they get sweeter and sweeter with each listen. You will be encouraged, uplifted, inspired, repentant and overjoyed by this project.
