Great for little ones.......2007-03-30
My two month old loves this music whenever I put it on she calms down.Very soothing and relaxing for mom too.
Leave the singing to Susie.......2006-08-29
Since Susie Tallman's Classic Nursery Rhymes has been such a hit with every little one I know, I got this CD. It's simply beautiful and a great mix with the one I have. This CD is for when you're all sung out, it's quiet time and the lights are dimmed. My voice is so awful and hers is so amazing, singing along wasn't really an option, but at least I could finally learn all the words since they're conveniently included in the packaging.
I definitely recommend Lullaby Themes - save your voice and let Susie put your kid to sleep!
Lullaby Themes for Sleepy Dreams.......2006-03-05
I got this CD for my kids who are 2 1/2 and 4 1/2. They wanted to listen to only a couple of songs in this album. So I would have to play only those songs in the repeat mode. Whether they enjoyed all the songs or not, it did help them to go to sleep without me being around.
Great!!!.......2005-12-27
Miss Tallman has great passion for her work and she has produced a collection of soothing titles for little ones!
We love this CD.......2005-12-18
We've been listening to this CD every night since our daughter was about 8 weeks old (she's now ten months). It's just beautiful, and as other people have posted, some of the songs have brought me to tears at times. It's a peaceful compilation of beautiful lullaby tunes.

Simply . . . DeLovely.......2007-05-13
The biggest surprrise: each song is by the original artist! The CD label even bears the old RCA Victor Trade Mark . . . and THAT goes back quite a ways! But all the arrangements and artists are wonderful to hear from
Cole Porter, himself, to Sinatra, Lena Horne, Rosemary Clooney, and others, all singing the "old favorites" as done originally by themselves! And . . . there's Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey and other favorites of those bygone days. If you saw the Movie "It's Delovely" and liked it, then you'll LOVE this CD: "IT;S DeLovely: The Authentic Dole Porter Collection."
Anything they could do, Cole Porter could do better..........2007-05-02
Cole Porter remains one of the brightest stars of the 20th century and this CD shows us why. You get a whopping 19 tracks on just one CD and the variety of these numbers reinforces the belief that Porter's music could be found in just about any genre of music.
The CD opens with two classic Porter numbers entitled "Anything Goes" and "You're The Top." Although these songs are well performed with terrific musical arrangements they are actually reconstructions of what these tunes would have sounded like if Porter were recording them today. They let us hear what Porter probably would have sounded like were he recording today using older equipment; but please make a note that this "reenactment" of Cole Porter singing to his own music may not work for some people.
Other gems on this CD include "Let's Misbehave" performed by Irving Anderson and His Commanders; the great Lena Horne singing so sweetly her renditions of "Just One Of Those Things" and "From This Moment On" and the incomparable Frank Sinatra crooning "Night And Day."
"I Love Paris" gets the royal treatment by Coleman Hawkins who plays that tenor saxophone to perfection! Manny Albam and His Orchestra provide the rest of the flawless musical arrangement for this instrumental track. In addition, fans of Cole Porter music will surely love Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra performing "I Get A Kick Out Of You." Moreover, one of the three bonus tracks features Fred Astaire singing "Night And Day" very well. Another bonus track features Rosemary Clooney delivering a powerful rendition of "You Do Something To Me" while Perez Prado and His Orchestra bat out a winning Latin style musical arrangement. Great!
The liner notes include an essay about Cole Porter and his career in the arts by Will Friedwald; and you see portions of Porter's recording contract with RCA Victor as part of the art work. You get all the song credits and there are very nice black and white pictures of Cole Porter himself, too.
Overall, Cole Porter fans will consider this CD a "must-have" for their collections. People who enjoy classic pop vocals will enjoy this CD as well.
Disappointing, not delovely, collection.......2006-10-04
Perhaps I should have read the print on the back more closely when I bought this on a whim. I should've known what to expect from Sonny Rollins or what they meant by "period performances" (i.e,. performances in the style of a period, but not necessarily from the period). So I got what was coming to me.
Nonetheless, I still feel cheated. This collection isn't what it appears to be, from the front cover, to the back blurbs, to the liner notes. It's a very uneven hodge podge of various recordings of Porter songs by a pretty wide assortment of artists. For too many tracks, these aren't "authentic" interpretations reflective of the period Porter and wrote and lived in, but typical "jazz standard" types of interpretations more reflective of the performing artist's own period. And don't be fooled (like I was) by seeing Cole Porter's name listed as the recording artist for two tracks - yes, those are his vocals, but the backing band is a contemporary band who've re-recorded the band section in a "period performance" style. It makes for a "cleaner" sound overall, but any one with a discerning ear will likely find the sonic incongruency between the '34 recording of Porter's voice and the '04 recording of the band too irksome.
And that's just one of several problems with this CD. It's not that these are bad performances - they're not. It's just that as a collection, they're not reflective of what the CD packages tries to tell you they are. For example, Sonny Rollins' hard bop era rendition of one of Porter's most beloved songs, "It's Delovely," is solid as anything Rollins did at the time. But it's hard bop, not swing, and it's instrumental, not vocal. So you get Rollins' wicked sax noodling, but not Porter's charming and witty lyrics. For a *Porter* collection, that's a considerable disappointment, and especially so, seeing the liner notes themselves set you up for that: "[Porter's] comic opuses like "It's Delovely" and "Let's Do it" exploit the lyricist's idea to tell topical jokes in rhyming patterns and exaggerated language, but at the same time they're wholly dependent on Porter the melodist to propel them with a catchy rhythmic motif." [liner notes, pg. 4] Well, it's would great to have to chance to hear that, but you won't with this CD. Not only is Rollins' "It's Delovely" instrumental, the other song they offer us as a choice example of Porter's comical lyricisms isn't even on this CD.
The other thing that boggles my mind is that there's no clear logic to how they selected these particular tracks. Some of the vocal tracks are very short, and don't give you a chance to ingest their Porterness. For example, Horne's "From This Moment On" and Clooney's "You Do Something to Me" both clock in under 2 minutes (compare that to Rollins' lyricless track that nearly 7 minutes long). I fear the tacks on here are so more because these were the ones the CD compliers' were able to get rights for, more than being ideal representations of Porters' songs.
I'll give it 2 stars because the preformances aren't bad in and of themselves, but regrettably, if you're looking for that one CD that'll scratch that distinctly Porter itch, I doubt this will be the one. It certainly isn't for me.
It's De Lovely-The Authentic Cole Porter Collection.......2005-08-20
I got chills when I heard this cd for the first time and the thrills did not stop until the last number. It had been years since I had experienced the old masters playing authentic music rather than the many remakes and retakes we have today. Does anyone today use brushes on a snare---fantastic sound. And hearing Lena Horne in her prime--an extra bonus.
What a musical treat this is!!!
Absolutely.......2004-12-29
I've always liked Cole Porter's songs, so of course I've heard them performed by many different singers. But what made this album for me was the recording of Porter himself singing "Anything Goes." Of course he doesn't have the voice of a Sinatra or a Mel Torme, but if you want to hear the definitive version of a song, you go to the composer himself, and this one is terrific. Porter sings with an urbane, knowing sophistication the others can't match, and in his own words--"God knows, anything goes," not the sanitized versions later singers used. It's fabulous, and the CD is worth the price for that track alone. But the rest of it's pretty easy on the ears too. Performances range from early jazz sounds to splashy big band arrangements to savvy vocals framed by swingy riffs. I like it better every time I listen to it. This is a worthy tribute to a great songwriter, and taken together with "The Very Best of Cole Porter" would be a great introduction to a suave, stylish kind of music that's sorely needed today, in this world of women singers groaning like cats in heat and men pumping out lyrics about bitches and hos. Let it roll--Cole's still tops.

Album Description
Lullabies for Sleepy Eyes is a diverse 16-song collection offering folk-renditions of lullabies from Welsh, Scottish, Irish, Yiddish, French and Australian traditions, among others. Although the lullabies are aimed for children ages one to five, the familiar, soft melodies work wonderfully for infants as well. With this album, Vocalist Susie Tallman provides a distinct sound much different from other children's albums; Lullabies for Sleepy Eyes is not tinny and sparkly but warm, clear, and textured gentle music that will link parent and child in the extraordinary way that only a lullaby can.
Customer Reviews:
Best Baby Bedtime helper ever.......2006-11-06
This cd is beautiful and includes unique versions of some favorite lullabies as well as some I'd never heard before. Susie Tallman's voice is enchanting, and the songs are not in any way annoying if the melodies get caught up in your head (some other cds are relentless!). I play the music while my baby and I wind down before she goes to bed and it works like a charm!
Beatiful Classic.......2005-10-20
Lullabies for Sleepy Eyes is another one of Susie Tallman's classics. Her beautiful voice brings out the best in these classic lullaby tunes. Whether you are trying to put your child to sleep in the car or at home, it is a must. This is a staple when you have small children. Sit back, relax and enjoy...
Something different for your lullaby collection..........2005-08-29
This is a GREAT Cd to add to your lullaby collection - the arrangements & songs are not what you find on your typical lullaby cds, and that is refreshing especially when you have an extensive lullaby collection such as I do! My husband is Irish, and there are several Irish songs on the CD that we love. My baby calms right down when I rock her to this cd - I got it as a gift and think it would be a great gift for other mothers/babies. Susie did an excellent job - highly recommend!! Another one you'd probably like is Susie's "Lullaby Themes for Sleepy Dreams."
Soothing sounds and voice but annoyed me.......2005-06-12
Purchased at recommendation of a parenting magazine and the 2 reviews on line. I can see how the music and the singer's voice would be soothing for a baby, but frankly, her voice annoyed me. Was a little too syrupy and sing-songy for me. I'd fall asleep easier to some old Enya or just instrumental versions of this, I think. Just my personal opinion.
What a fabulous find!.......2005-06-02
I recently came across this CD in a boutique baby shop and immediately decided to buy it because I'm always looking for more lullaby albums. I'm so glad I happened to find this! I've always loved "Suo Gan", so I was absolutely enchanted to hear Susie Tallman's version. I always want to hang out in my daughter's room after she's asleep just to listen to this. The song versions are slightly different from the original arrangements, but are absolutely soothing.

Album Description
K'naan, former refugee, now based in Toronto makes music that is a mixture of hip hop, African beats and world music intertwined - combining African drums, chants, handclaps, guitars and organic instrumentation sets this album outside the hip hop herd. K'naan creates music with a message. Leaving Somalia at the age of thirteen on what turned out to be the last commercial flight ever to do so, amidst a crumbling society and the end to this day of any form of central government K'naan carried with him a very strong sense of purpose as well as his amazing lyrical gift, which has made him a beacon for other artists a well as those dedicated to global change. Canada only release! With his unique voice and truly authentic style, K'naan brings an enormous dose of realness and urgency to the hip-hop world in a time when people are desperate for it. From a personal and cultural history rooted in poetry (being the grandson of one of Somalia's most famous poets), K'naan widens the traditional hip-hop perspective. Discovered and produced by Track & Field, same producers that discovered and produced Nelly Furtado, Dusty Foot Philosopher is comprised of 18 total tracks including 'Smile', 'My Old Home', 'In The Beginning', 'Voices In My Head', 'Wash It Down', 'Hoobaale', 'Rap Gets Jealous' and more. BMG. 2005.
Album Details
Negotiating his Way Forcefully Through a Gritty Sandstorm of Spoken-word and African Instrumental Interludes, K'naan Brings Us a Collection of Funky, Original Backgrounds Nearly as Weighty as the Cautionary Words that Float above Them. In his Liner Notes, K'naan Recounts a Nearly Fatal Incident Involving a Live Grenade which He and a Couple of his School Friends Discovered in their Classroom in Mogadishu, Somalia. While Playing with the Mysterious Object, which Initially Looked Like a Potato, the Grenade's Pin Slipped. Throwing it as Fast and as Far as He Could, the Destructive Object Lay to Ruin Much of the Empty Building. Thankfully, No One was Hurt. Then Only Ten Years Old, K'naan (Whose Name Means "The Traveller" in Somalian) Credits that Event as the Watershed Moment which Led Him to Become a Writer.
Customer Reviews:
Addictive and thought-provoking.......2007-07-07
Everyone will have their own opinion, but in my opinion (which is the best! : * ) this is the best CD I've purchased in a long time. If you like Arrested Development, Donnie, Stevie Wonder, India Arie or anybody who's not just singing or rapping for the sake of filling airtime, you'll love it. In The Beginning makes me dance, Hoobaale makes my think and sing at the same time, and What's Hardcore makes me laugh at the stupidity of mainstream hip-hop "gangstas". I love it.
Phenominal.......2006-12-16
I generally listen to reggae and have recently gotten into more Hip-hop and Rap. So, while I may not have the best perspective on this type of music, I will put it simply: this album blew me away. I really can't put my finger on it, but K'naan is fantastic. He is clever, angry, poetic, lyrical, and contemplative all at the same time. Besides the rythims, beats, etc., which are great, K'naan is able to give the listener a picture of whatever he's rhyming about, literally a picture in your mind. And, this is fundementally positive rap, hard to find no doubt, and it also makes you want to stand up a move around. I recommend this album to any fan of music, and I anxiously await K'naan's sophmore attempt.
Refreshing, innovative, dynamic.......2006-11-27
I normally don't go for hip hop and I hardly ever give 5 stars, but quality trumps genre any day, and this is some great stuff. Musically influenced by hip hop beats and his native Somalia, he manages to keep them successfully distinct. When he does merge them, it is with skill and style and wit. Too often merged styles end up sounding muddy, but not here.
The lyrics are poetic. He deals with some very serious subjects, but manages to inject humour and pragmatism without cheapening the message.
Finally, the album works well as a whole, not just a collection of songs, though you'll probably want to add some singles to your playlists.
Enjoy!
Masterfull.......2006-10-19
I had a chance to see K'naan at the Breedlove Tour with Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Pharaoh Monche and Jean Grey and let me tell you he rocked the show. I had the chance to meet him after the show as he was selling his beautiful album at the back of the Fillmore in Denver and what a guy. Humble, kind, very down to earth. His music expresses the hardships of leaving his homeland and the unimaginable pain of living in modern day Somalia. His music expresses the frustration and anger about his homeland but also brings hope about the future, as well as awareness as most people especially in the U.S. have no idea what is going on over there because CNN and other corporate media just cover it as a rogue state. K'naan puts the human element in his music and expresses it beautifully. Great all around CD, original beats, lyrics, and well put together. Keep on fighting K'naan wherever you are.
Overwhelmingly Beautiful and Poetic!.......2006-10-04
I'm an East African who grew up right over the border from Somalia and even then, I've never heard anyone say anything about Somalia other than rehashing CNN's point of view. It was always just a "messed up" place and nothing else. Finally this young brother speaks with such passion about the life and people that LIVE there...despite the turmoil and everything else there is LIFE and LOVE and K'Naan does such a phenomenal job getting that across. Listening to his tracks you can feel the pain, the frusteration, the hope...everything. He also acknowledges that just because he's no longer in a war-torn country doesn't automatically mean that life is great, a thought rarely discussed when it comes to refugees. It's often assumed and believed that we've done them all a great huge favor by removing them from their country...and while it's obviously better not to live under the fear of death, there's also the fact that generally people prefer to live in their home surroundings with the people they love and are familiar with. Migration, even to the lands of milk and honey in the west, is a HUGE sacrifice. Bravo K'Naan! This CD is a major contribution to Africa's history and to the masses whose thoughts and feelings are rarely acknowledged in an affirming an unbiased manner. An ESSENTIAL piece to anyone's library!

Album Description
SOUTHERN SOLDIER is a collection of songs and melodies which were well known to Southerners and Northerners alike; tunes that were a familiar and comfortable part of life in the years leading up to the War Between the States. Many of these compositions were written by the likes of Stephen Foster and Daniel Emmett, who were giants of the popular music industry of their day.
Some of the titles, OL' DAN TUCKER, DIXIE'S LAND and ARKANSAS TRAVELER are still familiar to the modern-day ear. Other titles on this album, though not familiar to the eye, will be quickly recognizable to the ear. ALL selections on this album are performed on authentic instruments of the period and were chosen for the appealing nature of their rhythms and melodies. They are presented with as unique and individual a spirit as one might expect from a true Confederate camp band of the era.
Over the years since 1989, when the band was formed, we have made a concerted effort to grow in the music and the history of those times. This collection of songs and melodies that the soldiers brought with them from home to the war represents the fruit of that growth. It was and continues to be our intent as a group of musicians and living historians to try to capture the spirit and emotion of those tumultuous years. We believe that this album, SOUTHERN SOLDIER, has succeeded in that effort.
Customer Reviews:
Oh Lud!.......2007-01-22
I found this recording while searching the web for additional lyrics to Ol' Dan Tucker to sing for my granddaughter. She now prefers the singing of the 2nd SCSB to mine. I've forgiven her for that.
The musicianship on this CD is adequate, with Marty Groody's whistle and fife playing being very good. To my ear, the lead vocals and harmony are very well done, their voices perfect for this genre. The song selection is a wonderful representation of songs from the Civil War era, all played and sung in authentic period style. The 2nd SCSB's strongest suit is that they play and sing the songs with great affection and passion. Their versions of Southern Soldier, Dixie's Land and others are stirring and not to be missed. I really like it when artists pack the maximum music, time wise, on a CD. The running time for this disc: 73+ minutes!
Southern Soldier.......2007-01-11
By far this is one of the most superb Civil War Period music. Listing to the title track southern soldier brought tears to my eyes, thats all i have to say
Great CD!!.......2006-11-21
Like someone said before: The Dixie version of this is worth the whole CD. All of the songs are great!
Great Album.......2006-11-10
I really enjoy this album. In fact, I listen to it over and over. It's worth it for "Southern Soldier" alone. As often as I listen to the entire album, I listen to this song even more often.
Dixie.......2006-02-17
The version of Dixie on this CD is beyond wonderful! This one song is well worth the price of the whole shebang.

Customer Reviews:
A musical treasure-box.......2006-09-10
Both the music and this actual product are masterpieces. John Dowland's collected works here - covering 12 compact discs - exhibit the depth and power of this composer, a composer who many now regard as suffering from clinical depression. I doubt that the issue of the diagnosis of Dowland's depression can ever be settled, however, it is certainly obvious from his music, so completely on display here, that he was a man with very dark depths and corners in his mind. Dowland's various manifestations and "takes" on his own tune, "Flow my tears"/"Lachrimae" are here. This tune has haunted me ever since I first heard it when I was a child. It seems to sum up Dowland's feelings - at least Dowland seems to have thought so.
The First, Second, Third and Fourth Bookes of Songes, A Musicall Banquet, the keyboard transcriptions, all the lute music, consort music are here and virtually everything else written or supposedly written by John Dowland. Anthony Rooley and The Consort of Musicke perform this music with style and feeling throughout. This 12 CD set is something of a monument to the ensemble - I only wish they'd finished their collection of Monteverdi madrigals, which was equally good (La Venexiana are currently doing a magnificent job of recording all Monteverdi's books of madrigals for the GLOSSA label).
This is an expensive set, however, you will probably never need to buy another John Dowland CD again after buying and listening to this collection.
I bought this CD set on a mild Summer evening of 1998 and listened to it while sitting in my sun room - which a glorious orange sunset in progress, and a glass of wine. It brought back so many memories.
a beautiful journey into melancholy.......2001-06-15
I'm amazed at how many people tend to associate John Dowland's music with a tragic sense of drama. While no doubt this is art highly based on sadness, the "tragic" sense of it is more a legacy from the Romantic period. During the Renaissance, however, sadness was undestood as a very aesthetic way of approaching life. That is also the reason why Shakespeare's tragedies appear more sophisticated than his comedies.
Dowland, a contemporary of Shakespeare, discovered that meditating on a sad theme is, at the same time, a way of discovering a special beauty that we tend to avoid (maybe because of the "tragic" heritage of the Romantics). So, in the end, meditating on sadness is an uplifting experience! This box set is a journey into melancholy that includes songs, chamber music, pieces for lute, some rare sacred music and -as a highlight- Dowland's beautiful collection of seven pieces for viola which he called "Lachrimae" (Tears).

Great voice- You Must have this.........2007-07-24
Any true baby boomer or even todays music lovers should have this. Linda Scott sings her heart out on this album and hearing a lot of her songs took me back to the good old days.
Starlight......Starbright!.......2007-06-23
Joyful! This is a star studded collection guaranteed to take you down memory lane almost hand in hand with Linda. Her intimate song stylings could even make standards and ballads seem like golden oldies, for she is vivacious, sparkling and exuberant! You may relive first love like it's a walk in the park. All of these songs about stars seem a metaphor for the singer...a star in her own right. In this collection are ten song titles about "stars" and even some moonbeams thrown in too. There are 8 songs in a row about stars. It's a rare and impeccable CD!
Forgotten singers.......2007-05-14
This is a great album by a cute little gal with a big voice. Her songs were popular when I was a young man out of high school and it's great to relive them.
Linda Scott album.......2007-03-14
Wow, really neat sounds. I loved the hits as well as the other songs on the CD. If you love the girl sounds of the 50's and 60's, you'll love this album! I recommend it highly!
Linda Scott: Star Vocalist.......2007-01-13
Linda Scott was unfortunately an underrated talent by the media. She had a great vocal instrument and she knew how to utilize it to its fullest capacity. Her bright sparkling voice has an instant appeal. She knew how to phrase the lyric and deliver the melody in stunning fashion. She had many hits including the million seller, "I Told Every Little Star" which was recently featured in David Lynch's film, "Mulholland Drive". She was originally signed to a recording contract by the Winnipeg record mogul, Neil Galligan, who produced all the songs on this release. I treasure the fact that a local personality was responsible for bringing this great talent to a wider audience. I always felt that she should have had a broader following like Petula Clark. The arrival of The Beatles really put a damper on the American Pop Rock Ballad Singer. Woman singers like Lesley Gore, Connie Francis, Connie Stevens et al went into a sharp decline and had to find other venues for their talent. The British invasion had their pop rock ballad singer equivalents like Tom Jones, Englebert Humperdinck, Petula Clark and Dusty Springfield but their American counterparts like Gene Pitney, Bobby Vee, Ricky Nelson, Dionne Warwick and many others were relagated to the backburner. But now here is Linda Scott once more sounding great in a state-of-the-art compact disc. Eric Records deserves our deepest gratitude and highest praise for this superlative release. Perhaps, they might consider releasing more or all of her recordings as she never made a bad record. An artist of Linda Scott's calibre deserves to have her releases in public domain once more. I am certain her great song stylings will be appreciated by many old and new fans alike. It's wonderful that these songs are available again by this great singer. Linda Scott's time has finally come again!

Dowland did for lute music what Haydn did for the string quartet and Beethoven the piano sonata. The finest lutenist and songwriter of his age--he composed several of the greatest hits of the late 16th and early 17th centuries--the surviving lute works constitute a sort of encyclopedia of the possibilities of the instrument. There are song arrangements, dance pieces, tributes to the composer's friends, even a musical self-portrait. Much of the music is fashionably sad. Lute songs generally deal with the agony of lost love, and Dowland's most popular tune was called Lachrimae (Tears). Paul O'Dette is simply the best lutenist alive. These five discs are available together at a special price, or separately. A reference edition. --David Hurwitz

Outstanding.......2007-03-31
If you are a fan of the music of John Dowland, you must own this CD. The playing is outstanding to say the least.
It's not heavy breathing.......2006-08-22
It's great that O'Dette gives us the complete solo works, of course. I have the common reaction to O'Dette: his technique is flawless, his performance unengaging.
Others have remarked on the "heavy breathing" noticeable on the recordings -- it's not heavy breathing, but the movement of his fingers on the gut strings making that sound.
Technically good, emotionally bland. .......2006-04-11
Considering the extreme paucity of (especially solo) lute recordings currently available worldwide,
but especially in the US, this set becomes an essential "must have" for all lovers of the lute.
Yet it somehow disappoints.
I am sure that Paul O'Dette is brimming over with virtuousity and a technical expertise
that I am hardly one to pass sound judgement upon.
But the recordings have a flatness and monotony;
the songs are rendered with precision, but seem to lack feeling, empathy, or enthusiasm throughout the offering.
It is an impressive compendium, and I'm glad I purchased it.
There are very few lutenists out there producing any music at all, so Mr. O'Dette should certainly be praised
for delivering such a substantial feast to our ears.
It just should have had more flavor.
Where is Konrad Ragossnig when you need him?
Highly recommended.......2005-10-23
I bought Volume 1 of this set a couple of years ago. It has become one of my favorite CDs, so I thought I would enjoy the full set. I have not been disappointed. I find the sound quality excellent, the playing superb. The included booklet has a lot of interesting background material. The music is great as background for a dinner party or intimate conversation, but has depth aplenty for concentrated listening. I often listen to it while working at the computer where I swear it improves concentration and productivity!
A few tunes appear more than once as Dowland reused some work, but the arrangements are sufficiently different to be interesting. It is his complete lute works, after all. Some might criticise the set for sounding too much in the same style. It is the work of one composer, and if you happen to like the style, as I do, this is a pro rather than a con.
Another reviewer mentioned obtrusive breathing on the recording. I had listened to Volume 1 for two years before reading the review and had not noticed this. On listening carefully, there is breathing audible, but I do not find it a problem. Perhaps it depends whether one listens to the music or the background.
just a warning..........2005-10-14
Beautiful music, but... you can hear Paul's heavy breathing throughout. Apparently a lot of other reviewers either don't hear the heavy breathing, or aren't bothered by it, but for me, it's a near deal-breaker. Go ahead and mark my review as unhelpful, but I had to put the warning out there.

Best hymn singer I know.......2006-10-24
I've listened to many songs before, but boy, no one can sing hymns like Ortega. His voice would not be as good for other contemporary Christian music but is just perfect when it comes to hymns. I've actually bought many of this particular CD as gifts to my friends. Other CD's of his are so so, but this one is my favorite. I'm about to buy some more.
His Best Album.......2005-04-14
This is a great album to meditate to. It's so relaxing and welcomes the Holy Spirit into the atmosphere. The way he sings you can feel the love of God in his voice. This album is truly a blessing to my soul. If you desire an album that will bring you closer to the spiritual realm. This is it!

Not Recommended - Poor Sound Quality.......2007-05-16
Unless you are willing to put up with poor sound quality - do not purchase this CD. I returned it immediately as my HiFi reproduced the CD 'as is' - including the poor quality recording. It was not pleasing to the ears.
I highly recommend Sacred Spirit, Vol. 2: More Chants and Dances of the Native Americans and Sacred Spirit: Chants and Dances of the Native Americans. I have not got over them yet and I consider them the finest of Native American music. I purchased them at the Grand Canyon during our tour of the USA. They are currently in promotion at Amazon.(Discounted price).
MOST LIKELY UNLAWFUL.......2006-11-23
These recordings were probably recorded without permission; hence, the lack of named singers and inappropiately named songs. There is a mixture of traditional pow wow and competion pow wow songs (not to mention the inappropiate recording of ceremonial songs) on this cd. The poor recorded tracks speaks for themselves that they are most likely unlawfully recorded.
Well tuned instuments and voices.......2001-11-30
Authentic Native American Music containes performances of sincere clarity and direction to seek support from the supreme spirit. Every note is masterly played... Every voice has a well- trained quality. Truly amazing sound quality.
Old but authentic.......2000-09-06
I used to have an audiotape with many of these songs on it which I got 20 years ago. I think these songs might have been originally recorded on wax cylinders, hence the scratchy quality. The songs are old, maybe from around 1900 to 1930s. These songs are not like the ones you will find at modern powwows today but are a rare collection of the old-time songs from another era. Geared more toward the serious student rather than the casual listener. For powwow music, I would recommend any of the more modern releases.
The Real Deal.......2000-07-02
If anyone has ever wondered what kind of music they might have at a Pow Wow, this is it. This is the authentic, 'hardcore' stuff. You can listen to this drumming and chanting and simply lose yourself in it. It will carry you away. Only if you were at an actual ceremony would it be more authentic. It is beautiful to listen to and wonderful to imagine to. Let your heart soar with the eagles.
