Wonderful.......2007-06-28
I am in love with this CD... it is almost aways in my CD player
a little story of the little puppies who could........2007-05-19
few people into the sick puppies outside australia would know that dressed up as life is actually the bands second LP. they're first LP was called 'welcome to the realworld' and released on transistor records who dropped the band after the cd wasn't a breakout hit like it should of been.
i've been into the pups since they we're discovered on Triple J with the song nothing really matters. (JJJ is OZ's largest and best youth radio station.) that first album and the follow up EP 'FLY' are both awesome and ironically no longer in print which is a shame. although since i own original copies of both means they are probly worth alot now that the puppies have been shot to stardom thanks to youtube and a little song called 'all the same'.
anyway that earlier work was brilliantly layered songwriting. it was alot more angrier and beautiful than D.U.A.L but completely ignored and unpopular. this was mainly due to the bands sound being to heavy and full of swearing - a big no-no for commercial radio (case in point google the lyrics for 'rock kids')
they were soon dropped by the label and fell into obscurity. i genuinly thought it would be the last of the pups but i heard rumours they had moved to LA to colaborate with muso's. several years later a free hugs campaign filmed by singer/guitarist shimon to the bands song 'all the same' hit you tube and was an overnight success.
this was my first taste of the sick puppies new songs and sound which was completely noticible straight away to me. i want to make it clear that i really like the bands new album (hence the 4 stars) and am excited this little aussie 3 piece could crack the hard international market. and all they had to do was keep the same great songwriting, just tone down the language and up the ballads. the lyrics in D.U.A.L are ok but some are lame and slightly emo (i'm sure gerard way could of written the lyrics for pitiful.) regardless this album has some great songs and is completely solid, personal favourites include my world, what are you looking for, all the same, too many words and cancer.
anyway congratulations sick puppies, i'm proud. and cheers 4 reading.
More Sick Puppies!.......2007-05-18
Excellent..I enjoyed every cut. Not going to compare them to anyone tho a couple of other indie bands spring to mind. Looking forward to hearing more from down-under.
Not a bad buy..........2007-05-16
A quality album with a few top notch songs. In a nutshell, however, most of the songs aren't as great as "All The Same" -- which is probably what brought the album to your attention in the first place. That being said, at least a couple other tracks such as "World" and "Deliverance" make it well worth the buy. I wouldn't hesitate to see them live and still recommend the album.
Great music with good songwriting!.......2007-05-13
Saw these guys live in concert...then saw their "Free Hugs" video online (check it out) - really solid rock with genuine emotion. Highly recommend (especially the lyrics to "Cancer")!

Goodness.......2007-07-22
Yes, so.......
The, "i'm desinger," remix is along the same lines of the," no one knows unkle" remix from stone age complications. "goin' out west," is an ok tom waits cover. They really pulled off elliott smith's," Christian brothers," very well. In fact it's probably better than the original. Because i never really noticed how good that song was until the queens covered it. Get it? Got it? grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat.

Customer Reviews:
One of the best examples of 1970s live rock.......2007-04-12
You Can't Argue is a definitive example of the best of 1970s live rock genre. Brilliant musicianship, powerful song-writing and lush, thunderous production qualities take precedence over glitz or gimmicks.
This recording captures Joe Walsh at the peak of his considerable abilities, showing off stunning virtuosity through a variety of themes and forms. Unfortunately, it also serves as a painful reminder how far the rock genre has fallen.
The ONLY quibble with this brilliant live performance is it's length: too short. It is a must for serious collectors of excellent rock music.
Joe's Live Stuff Pre-Eagles..........2007-03-27
Having been a fan of first "The James Gang", "Barnstorm" and the rest of Joe Walsh's stuff up through "The Confessor", this album would seem to be a "must purchase" item for me. And in reality, it was, back in the mid-seventies when I bought it on vinyl. The best tracks include "Walk Away" (up-tempo compared to the original which is why I liked it), "Meadows" (I loved the way they sneaked in a couple of moments of "Giant Behemoth"), and "Help Me Through the Night" (a song that never got enough radio play, in my opinion).
The other three tracks are only so-so, and I think it was a result more of ABC Dunhill trying to make a fast buck than them trying to turn out a quality product. After this point, of course, Joe would jump to Elektra/Asylum and become an Eagle, which would put him more in the mainstream, at least for a little while.....
Not "Arguing".......2007-03-09
After one album, which included all his quick solo singles, "Meadow," "Rocky Mountain Way," Joe Walsh, in her pre-Eagle mode and post-James Gang suit, released this album which is longer than an EP but shorter than it should have been. It fit nicely in the day on a vinyl album.
The hidden classic gem is a pumped up version of the James Gang's "Walk Away," which is worth the price of admission alone. The live versionof "Rocky Mountain Way" is also excellent. What this CD needs is the entire live performance release. I'd buy it all over again.
You can't argue with a sick mind.......2007-01-10
If you are a Joe Walsh fan this is a got to have album.
Don't Argue...... or You'll have a sick mind!.......2007-01-08
Joe Walsh is much better live than in the studio. (I've seen him live and this album is a testiment to how great he can be - so much so that I got the band to sign the cover for me). Recorded live just before he did the famous Hotel California solo with the (much under-rated Don Felder) members of the Eagles and buddies Joe Vital, etc, from Barnstorming days. Just buy it and listen to it and you won't bother with the studio stuff any more. All good tracks, but of particular note are Rocky Mountain Way and Turn to Stone. The energy is great and this has been a regular feature on my turntable, CD player and now iPod for over 20 years. Up there with Neil Young's "Live Rust" CD.

A Great Sophomore Release from The Fold!.......2007-06-01
This is a great album! A few songs, such as Faster Still, Catastrophe! (Prepare to Defibrillate), and Beside You Now, took three or four listens before I began to really appreciate them. "Revisited" is the only track on the album that I don't care for. Other than that, I can let the CD play all the way through. The Fold have matured in their song writing and musicianship since "This Too Shall Pass," which to me was a very incomplete album. "Secrets Keep You Sick" is definitely a step in the right direction and I look forward to hearing more from them in the future!

A delightfully buoyant, mock-creepy collection of film scores from Hollywood's first and best call for quirk, strangeness, and charm. Focusing on Elfman's post-1992 work (much of it for director Tim Burton), this 2 CD set features excerpts from Edward Scissorhands, To Die For, and Batman Returns, among other lesser items. -- Jeff Bateman
Customer Reviews:
Priceless, at any price.......2007-07-06
Years ago, watching peter Jennings cover the funeral procession of Princess Diana, my soul was captured by some hauntingly beautiful music that at times played in the background. So began my mission to find out what it was, who wrote it and how I could get it. After some correspondence with the network I was put in touch with the woman who "put together" that part of the programming. All she could remember is that it came from the movie "Black Beauty". THEN I found out how many versions of that had been made lol. With determination, I finally found it, and had a local music store order it for me.
There are no words to describe what this music does to me. I did try listening to some of the other tracks, but they didn't even come close. I rate this music right up there with the 1971 score for "Jane Eyre" by John Willams... and that's pretty high :D
Good overview.......2007-04-18
Very nice overview of Elfman work. Insufficient by itself but worth having along with the full soundtracks. Bonus disc is a nice extra.
Great Music!!!!!!!!!.......2005-09-08
I Love Danny Elfman's music so much that I have started my own collection of the soundtracks that he composed. For a while, I was trying to find the "Beetlejuice" theme song from the TV show, but thanks to this release, I finally have it!!! Keep up the good work Elfman!
Very nice for a Danny Elfman collection.......2005-08-02
Music For A Darkened Theater, Vol.2 is a great cd!!! I love all of the tracks on both cd's,but my fav. ones are the t.v. scores and the This Is Halloween demo!!! If you love this, then i recomend looking at all the actually albums on this cd and his other works!!!! good job,Danny Elfman.
Bring on Volume 3.......2005-05-04
The liner notes and "This is Halloween Demo" on this compilation are well worth the CD price by themselves. Danny comments on each of the tracks on the CDs which is a rare and ego-free look at what a composer thinks of his own work.
Edward Scissorhands is magical, Black Beauty is a rollercoaster of emotion, and Dolores Claiborne makes me want to find the nearest piano. This is not a "Most Popular" compilation, rather it aptly showcases Danny Elfman's (and Orchestrator, Steve Bartek's) brilliance and wide range of style.
Every suite has an Elfman signature, such as the layered complexity which never sounds overdone, or the use of a choir as an instrument.
This (and Volume 1) are examples of the work of a modern day composer who consistently stands out as one of the best.
If you like this and have the spare cash, grab the individual scores from some of the movies he has worked on, including "Men In Black", "Spiderman", "Batman", "Batman Returns", "Nightmare Before Christmas", "Edward Scissorhands", "Mars Attacks" and so many more.

The Lost, The Sick-The Pretty Good.......2007-03-09
Other than a couple of songs that felt forced, the cd overall is pretty good-except for one glaring omission. As a drummer, and as a metal-head, the severe lack of double-bass stuck out like a sore thumb. It made an appearance in a couple of songs, but places it should've been, it wasn't. Overall, however, THE LOST THE SICK THE SACRED rocked.

SOLID STATE'S BEST CHRISTIAN METAL EVER!!!!!! .......2007-01-06
This was tremendous!! So headbanging! So heavy too! I don't know why so many stores don't have their album, it has to be a hit!! Songs "A Call To The Faithful", "Dance All Night", and "Frail Dreams And Rude Awakenings" were the best!! But the album would be better off without "Sons Of Tomorrow". And whose Noah James? The bass at the beginning of "Tonight We Die Together" was good too. The guitars in this album were so heavy and loud. Their new vocalist's vocals is great! Great screaming and beautiful singing! Even though I've never heard their original singer, their current singer is awesome and cool! GET THIS! And bring this album to church! Well written christian lyrics. BUY THIS!!!

Though it ran for only a year in the early 70's, The National Lampoon Radio Hour remains one of the most influential--and consistently hilarious--efforts at audio sketch comedy. The core of that show became the inaugural class of SNL's "Not Ready For Primetime Players," and many of the performers on this 1977 album (that recycles some material from the radio show to great effect) also went on to fame there, as well as SCTV. The material here is as rapid-fire as it is pointed, ranging from recurring installments of Richard Belzer's prophetic, acid-tongued radio talk show host Dick Ballantine and Christopher Guest's unsettling Mr. Roberts (a dead-on, way-too-kid-friendly take on the late Fred Rogers) to Bill Murray's obnoxiously whining public radio fundraiser and jabs at Nadia Comaneci, mindless radio fodder, hotlines, Mel Brooks' 2000-year old man, and even a Paul Shaffer-produced musical epic, "The Height Report Disco." Though not quite reaching the sublime level of some of the radio show's more surreal moments, it's consistently irreverent, wildly funny, and delivered with machine-gun efficiency, remaining one of the troupe's best satirical collections. --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
national lampoon's "that's not funny, that's sick".......2006-07-31
I purchased this CD, new, on July 17th,2006. It is a great collection of classic comedy, however, Amazon is still shipping the copies made before 2005, mastered from vinyl with scratches, hisses and all. I solely wanted to listen to 'Mr. Roberts 1" with the egg-a-muffin' skit and it skips over most of this skit. The promise by Mr. David Drozen to replace it, rings hollow. Neither from him or Amazon can I get a 'clean, remastered', 2005 version. So, I'll send it back for a refund. It's a shame because the material is so classic. I was going to buy the box set, next. Oh, well.
Hilarious album / Poor quailty recording.......2006-01-10
If the title of this album doesn't serve as an adequate admonition of what's in store, the first track will: "Hey, look out for that s%#t on the floor... Whoops! Ha ha ha... Well, we've got a filthy show for you tonight!" If you're easily offended, deeply religious, or have an otherwise sensitive disposition, you may want to steer clear. However, If you're a real sicko, like me, you'll not only find this album laugh-out-loud funny on your first listen, you'll enjoy listening again and again as you discover its many subtleties. Some of the tracks, like Christopher Guest's spoof on Mr. Rogers, I simply never grow tired of listening to.
I must however, express my disappointment with the quality of this recording. When this album was released in 1977, it only existed on vinyl. (I don't believe that it was ever released on cassette or 8-track.) Since then, fans have tolerated the crackles and pops. I was thrilled to see that this album was finally released on CD. Unfortunately, not only is it NOT digitally re-mastered, its source material is a vinyl record, complete with the same old crackles, pops, and surface noise! While the source vinyl is in pretty good condition no one even bothered to go back and remove the pops. I spent about an hour doing so with some inexpensive software and it made a real difference. Another disappointment with this CD is that the tack markers aren't accurate. When you rip this CD to your computer for listening on your portable device, you'll notice that at the beginning of each track there's a little chunk of the end of the previous track... very annoying but fixable with basic audio editing software.

In response to consumer feedback, we have re-mastered (as of February 11, 2005) this CD to eliminate noticeable tics and pops. The quality is vastly improved. Any Amazon.com customer who has purchased this CD and wishes to have it replaced with the new, improved version, should contact David Drozen, President of Uproar Entertainment at uproarcd@aol.com for instructions on what to do.
great album.still makes me laugh........2004-06-22
i'll never forget the first time i heard this album.it was in the mid 80's and i was about 11.my older brother had a really lousy copy of it on tape.but the condition of the tape didn't matter.i laughed til i was sore.i played it for my other brother and one of my childhood friends.we couldn't get through the confession part without losing it.we had to keep on playing that bit several times til we could silence our laughter and hear the whole bit.what fond memories i have of this album.a must for anyone old enough to understand and appreciate what real comedy is and how real comedians did it.
Stick with your LP... that's what they did!.......2003-10-26
For those who remember this record, yes it's one of the funniest things National Lampoon ever did. My LP was sounding pretty worn. So much so, in fact, that I dubbed it onto a CD so I wouldn't have to put any more wear and tear on the vinyl while I waited for somebody to put out a real CD. Not only was this CD *not* made from the master tapes, it wasn't made from a tape at all. It was mastered from an LP (just like my homemade CD), apparently with no effort to clean up the surface noise or ticks and pops. 5 stars for content, but zero stars for not going back to the master tapes. Let's hope Uproar does a better job in a few months when they reissue Goodbye Pop.
