DECENT..........2006-05-24
i gave this 3 stars cause only half the album is hot.the beats on the first half on the songs really aren't all that good.plus with the way these cats spit, the songs kinda sound the same.about half way through the album picks up.the production gets better and the lyrics just seem a lot cleaner.this album is NOT amazing, but worth a listen.
Not as Enthusiastic as everyone else.......2006-05-14
First off, Alaska is one of my favorite hip hop artists on the scene today. I really dug his joints on the Atoms CD and think he has amazing talent. In addition, I think the production coming out of Def Jux is always cutting edge and always worth listening to.
However, I just didn't feel this CD. 'Hangar 101' is a great track with an amazing beat and great lyrics. Besides that, the rest of the album does not bang. WindBreeze and Alaska do not have enough variety in their flows to play off each other (for example, the way Cannibal Ox does). Some of the tracks (like 'Take No Chances' and 'Keeps it Moving') are not connected with themselves. The lyrics are good and then move on to another train of thought within the same song. A lot of the songs sound to much the same which makes the CD hard to get in to.
Having said that, the production is excellent. Hangar 18 is pushing the envelope of hip hop and this CD is definately a must for any real heads. I don't think they pulled off what they are capable of doing on this album, but it is still a good listen. I might be unfair to the album because I was expecting so much because of the great stuff that came before from Def Jux and Atoms Family. At least the album leaves you wanting to hear another album from the group, and I for one can't wait.

Some of tha best.......2005-08-19
This is one of the greats.never lacking on that beats, lyricism or the delivery.saw live at the warped tour even betta live! both windnbreeze & alaska spit faster & better showin' even still they got potential to become one of hip-hops greatest groups
Pushing the envelope of hip-hop.......2005-05-19
It says Definitive Jux on the back, so that was enough to entice my newest purchase from these mad talented cats, Hangar 18. From "Where We At?" on, it is quite apparent that these guys have a large amount of skill. They rap faster than most. And of the MCs that can rap fast, these guys can also rap with clarity. But fast rapping isn't all that this album possesses. There's also a lot of substance to their rhymes. Wind N Breeze and Alaska have sweet old-school flows, and the production brought forth by DJ paWL is air tight, and very unique. And like most Jukies, Hangar 18 brings a unique style to the table, pulverizing hip-hop's previous template.
I was first exposed to this album from the second cut "Where We At?". That was enough to get me interested. But there are far better tracks than that one. The next two, "Beatslope" and "Go Git That" are even more impressive, the latter featuring one of the tightest beats on the record. "Boombox Apocalypse" is a well placed cut, slowing it down a bit, preparing to assault your ears with the rest of the record. Sadat X from Brand Nubian makes an appearance that adds to the old-school feel on "Sadat X Appears Courtesy of...". Then comes "Saved by the Beezy," which features the fastest rapping on the record. They spit an insane amount of lyrics, all backed by a sweet old-school sampled beat (LL Cool J "Rock The Bells"). "Take No Chances" has got to be my current favorite right now, where that actually slow it down a bit (that doesn't necessarily mean they rap slow). They close out the record nicely, pulling all the elements together. All in all, the record is nicely balanced. It isn't fast all the way through, which makes the record that much more enjoyable to listen to.
Don't be fooled by the low price ($3.79 used as of now). Think of it as a prime opportunity to snatch up a great underground hip-hop album. I'm not sure why it's so cheap, but don't confuse it's price for it's listening value.
Definitive Jux has yet to fail me with even a mediocre release. Every artist they sign-on brings something fresh and original to the scene. Whether it's unique flows or unique beats, they're consistently proving that there are a wide array of ways to approach hip-hop as an art form. Hangar 18's "Multi-Platinum Debut Album" proves that once again.
Nice. Real nice..........2005-04-25
Ha, I first heard Hangar 18 when they warmed the stage for Aesop Rock the last time he was around here, and I really liked their old-school lunchtable session style. They really got the place nice and hyped, and brought me to a new group. I and a friend of mine ran into Windnbreeze after the show and bought this off him. Although their flows are absolutely amazing, what really attracted me to them was their personality, the way they completely relished in the fact that their only purpose was to open the stage. The way they loved the fact they were just having fun, and loved selling cds out of their van. The whole show was an amazing experience, but watching these guys really put a new type of smile on my face. They're really fast, and the beats have a nice "Beat Street" feel to them.

This album is an instant hit........2005-07-21
ShoTyme has done it with this album. It has continous heat from beginning to end. The song "GAMES" is off the hook referring to the games that females play all the time. The song "MOVE BACK" is a club banger and every club should be playing that song. This is definately the best rapper coming out of the West who is not black. I cant get enough of this album.
