5 out of 5 stars MY god.......2004-11-15

Im sure many people are familiar with the term "Short and sweet" which sums up, in three words, passage's album. Its chock full of great songs lasting around two minutes, but in those two minutes, you realize passage's genius.two songs come to mind- Karaoke kiss ass (not hareoki, as said on the page) and Duck'n cover. Both songs are some of the finest ive listened to, but last such a short time. There are two songs that arent that great however, Old aunt mary and red ferrari calender blob. take my advice and buy this album, right now its 6 dollars for a "like new" copy, but this album is worth 50.

This album is dope. every Anticon album is a must get. So get them all

2 out of 5 stars ennui.......2004-06-11

Passage's droning delivery and offkilter approach to hiphop is definately in line with the anticon sound. Unlike his peers, Passage lacks the punch that have established Sole, Jel, and Dose. I would definately view him as an anticon junior member...this disc is an attestation to his ever complex struggle for defining himself amidst pressurized beats with 80's samples and self edifying moments of presumed insight. Although this disc isn't horrible, I would this disc only if you are a fan of passage's other work like newbliette (oubliette). The beats, while interesting and bearing that "lo fi" asthetic that makes the indy kids sweat, only exacerbates passage's inane sing songy voice. This only works towards his advantage on "The Unstrung Harp" where the modal sample and Passage's voice click into place...moments like these are few and far between in my opinion.

3 out of 5 stars Anticon: Music for the ages?.......2004-06-04

I have long been a fan of Anticon records, perhaps 5 - 6 years. I have watched the label grow to be a new form of music rather than just a new form of hip-hop. This is especially true with the new PASSAGE disk Forcefeild Kids. The disk is full of folk rock/ Post Hip-Hop/ Art rock/ Stream of conciseness. No matter what you are into you will most likely find a taste of it on this disk. My personal favorite tracks are 3. Creature in the classroom, 9. The Kareoki (sp?) Kiss Ass, and 11. Jail 4 Lil Geniuses. #3 is a good blend of passage's singsong cadence with his abstract, yet forward, rhyme style. #9 is a sick little song, a little of the newer style. #11 is very reminiscent of the Restiform Bodies work. The same intensity is very evident on much of the disk, yet the production separates it from the Restiform work. What seems to be a new trend in the Anticon camp, self-production is a big part of this disk. All in all I would say if you own any anticon disks, pick this one up. As a fan who owns over thirty albums, I would say it was well worth the $14.
