The guy was damn ingenious with a guitar, but not half as industrious as the folks who've packaged and repackaged his posthumous material. First Rays of the New Rising Sun, however, is an attractive assortment of "spiritual, very earthy" late recordings that surfaced in the '70s via The Cry of Love, Crash Landing, Rainbow Bridge, and War Heroes. Hendrix appeared to be in transition between flamboyant showman and serious musician personas at the time (meaning his work, had he lived, might have been twice as meritorious and half as fun), and that makes many of these tracks all the more interesting. --Steven Stolder

5 out of 5 stars JIMI'S FINAL ALBUM, FINALLY RELEASED HIS WAY !.......2007-03-20

After guitar god Jimi Hendrix died, he released more albums than he did when he was still alive. Control of Jimi's music fell into the hands of attorneys who saw the opportunity to turn a fast buck, and quickly released this excellant music chopped up into several different albums (Rainbow Bridge, Cry of Love, War Heroes, etc.,etc.). After much litigation and several years, control of Jimi's music was given to Jimi's father and sister. They formed the Experience Hendrix record label and went to work. The first task at hand was to put together First Rays of the New Rising Sun, Jimi's title to the double-album he was putting the finishing touches on when he died. Through interviews with the producer, engineers, and musicians who worked on the project, they finished the album according to Jimi's specifications. The music on the album is sophisticated, energetic, and precise. Hendrix fans will recognize most of these songs. Freedom, Angel, Dolly Dagger, Roomful of Mirrors, Isabella, Hey Baby(New Rising Sun), and the beautiful Drifting are all highlights. Like The Beatles leaving behind the cute mop-top Beatlemania era with Rubber Soul and Revolver, Jimi seemed to be breaking away from the psycadelic wild-man theatrics of his early days, and getting down to the business of creating serious music with a conscious. You will find some of Jimi's best songs, vocals, and guitar playing on the aptly titled First Rays of the New Rising Sun. No Jimi Hendrix fan should be without it.

5 out of 5 stars Cry Of Love.......2007-02-16

Back in the 70's I wore out my vinyl copy of Hendrix's Cry Of Love Album. Songs like, Drifting and My Friend have been floating around in my head for all these years and I had tried to find a copy of CRY Of Love on cd several times with no luck. Well, here it is under a different name and with some additional songs ! These are some of the best cuts Jimi Hendrix ever recorded and the music sounds as good today as it did when I was a kid. Absolutely great stuff.

5 out of 5 stars A must-have. It's as simple as that.......2006-12-20

This is the geniune article, folks: The tapes that Jimi was working on before his untimely death. Seventeen songs, and all but two (Beginnings and Stepping Stone) are must-haves for any serious Hendrix fan. Of course, it's got the lovely, oft-covered ballad Angel, which has quickly become a Hendrix standard and is one of his best songs, perfect lyrics, perfect melody, perfect instrumentation... it's all there. A masterpiece. And it's not even the best song on the disc - I'd go with either the title track or Drifting, a low-key ballad that is one of Hendrix's more underrated. Rockers In From the Storm; Freedom; Izabella and Roomfull of Mirrors are perfectly complimented by the ballads (Night Bird Flying; the aforementioned Angel; Drifting) and the funk songs (Ezy Rider, another favorite; Dolly Dagger). And then there's the hilarious, wah-wah'ed Belly Button Window. Hendrix's last recordings have been repackaged several times, but this is the one to go to - it's probably what Hendrix would've approved of, unlike the Allen Douglass releases. Hendrix's music was taking an interesting turn before his premature death. If you're curious as to how a fourth studio album would've turned out (and really, who isn't?), this should satisfy you.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful Treasure.......2006-07-17

This is a treasure chest full of early unreleased Jimi. These songs really show the heart and soul of Jimi Hendrix as a thoughtful songwriter. As always, the guitar is wonderful and amazing; but there's something peaceful in even the most scorching of solos on this disc. Enjoy this wonderful collection of songs that illustrates Jimi's command of the blues and how he was able to stay true to it's roots or help it blossom into a rock 'n' roll explosion.

4 out of 5 stars Jimi's Version.......2006-05-13

"In 1994, Hendrix's own handwritten track selection for First Ray surfaced and was reprinted in the french magazine Folk & Rock (November 1994). Surprisingly it was never used when attempts were made to complete the unfinished project in the years that followed. Hendrix only completed a song list for three sides of the double LP, and wasn't sure where to place the track "Night Bird Flying". With a darker-colored pen, he seemed to indicate that it should be the second song on side A. Hendrix's track selection for First Ray of the New Rising Sun was:

Side A: Dolly Dagger, Night Bird Flying, Room Full of Mirrors, Belly Button Window, Freedom.

Side B: Easy Rider, Astro Man, Drifting, Straight Ahead.

Side C: Drifter's Escape, Comin' Down Hard On Me, Beginnings, Cherokee Mist, Angel."

The above and any other quotes in this post are taken from the book, "Black Gold the Lost Archives of Jimi Hendrix" by Steven Roby.

The album is refered to above as First Ray instead of First Rays because Jimi at first was going to call it First Ray of the New Rising Sun. Another quote from Black Gold:

"Billy Cox worked on the unfinished album, and recalled the time when Hendrix asked him about the correct wording: "He asked me, 'Is it the first ray, or the rays?' I said, 'I don't know. He said, 'What do you see when you get up in the morning? When you look over the horizon do you see one ray or rays?' I said, 'I'd have to check that out.'

Hendrix would seem to have had a cover for the album in mind too...another quote:

"There is also evidence that Hendrix may have had a cover in mind for the release. On September 17th, 1970, he sketched out various faces to form the shape of a cross, with his own face in the middle. The right arm of the cross had faces of white people, including J.F.K. and Hitler and two women and a baby. On the left arm of the cross was Martin Luther King, Jr., a black woman with a crown, an African woman, and a baby. On the bottom shaft, Crazy Horse, Geronimo, Cochise, two women and a baby represented Native Americans. Above Hendrix's head, the top shaft of the cross showed Buddha, Genghis Khan, a Japanese woman, and a Chinese baby, representing the Asian Peoples."

I like this CD and gave it 4/5 stars. But knowing that there are existing track listings by Hendrix out there I tend to wish they had tried to stay closer to the song orders he had chosen (Of course Jimi might have made many changes to those song orders before the album was completed).

Since these days most people can make their own CDs I would probably arrange a version (for my own listening pleasure) to look something like this:

Dolly Dagger
Night Bird Flying
Room Full of Mirrors
Belly Button Window
Freedom
Easy Rider
Astro Man
Drifting
Straight Ahead
Drifter's Escape (Can be found on the CD South Saturn Delta)
Comin' Down Hard On Me (Can be found on the Hendrix box set)
Beginnings
Here He Comes (Lover Man) (Can be found on South Saturn Delta)
Angel
Hey Baby (New Rising Sun)
Stepping Stone
Izabella
Earth Blues
In From The Storm

Approximate CD time = 79 minutes

Since the only version of Cherokee Mist I have heard is on the Box Set and has simliar patterns to that of In From The Storm I left it off. I left off My Friend since it was a leftover track from 1968. For those who are into having an instrumental open the album there is a spacey guitar instrumental called The New Rising Sun on the now deleted Hendrix CD compilation Voodoo Soup...I just wasn't sure how to fit it in due to space limitations. Pali Gap is also a track that could have been on the album as it was recorded during the same time period. Of course everyone's version of this album would probably be different (including Jimi's).

I could go on and on about this but I guess the bottom line is I like the music on this album very much I just wish it could have somehow stayed closer to Jimi's vision...

5 out of 5 stars Top notch, beginning to end!.......2007-07-22

I have always loved this album (actually, I still have and play the audio cassette I purchased back in '92.) There's not a dud or a stinker in the bunch, and hearing it really evokes some pleasant early '90s memories. It's hard to single out a favorite, but "Allison Road," "Hold Me Down," "Mrs. Rita" and of course, "Hey Jealousy" are fantastic tracks. Incidentally, I just saw the Blossoms play last night and they still sound pretty good - even their new material was good enough to inspire me to buy the album (this time on CD) and make a fan of my son, who was born the year NME came out (and who luckily has a tape player so he can listen to and enjoy my cassette!)

5 out of 5 stars You might not be let down .......2007-03-14

The place for me: Virginia Beach the summer of "Hey Jealousy" and simply no song coming out of the boardwalk's bars, wtih their razor-sharp sound systems, could match it. It was such a carefree, rocking sound, the sound of a hip outsider guitar pop band breaking big, but the more you listened to Gin Blossoms, the more you heard the undercurrent of sadness and loss. I have simply never been able to let go of this album, to let it slide into the giant pile or racks to join so many other great rock n' roll moments. It just keeps finding its way back to the front. The suicide of songwriter/guitarist Doug Hopkins is written all over this record. Here it all is from the blown-out war games that are so many people's early and mid-twenties. The truth and the lie, together, is that rock and roll saves your life. It does and it doesn't. What it does often do, if you're not a straight-edge career tracker is lead you to places like heartbreaking girls, late-night drinking binges, existential bliss and blues, lost nights outside by campfires, backyards, swimming pools, parking lots, the beach, the woods, palatial and parentless estates, any place kids congregate for the last vestiges of party youth, and all the ache and all the suffering that goes down in those times, no matter how great they are and how vividly they sear your memory. Gin Blossoms, on New Miserable Experience, capture the whole damn thing, the doubt, the anguish, the worry, the hangover, the excitement. The pop structures are gorgeous (perfect "Allison Road"), time-tested folk rock, but the themes, like on the magnificent, troubled "hey jealousy" are of a boozy life on the edge, careless and care-filled, where life and death meets don't give a damn. And the things you would say to a girl, because you are so damn lost, things that you might look back on years later, if you've made it, and know you were scrounging at the bottom, well, you either know or don't know what I'm on about here. So, this is a snapshop and a document of all that and it is so focused and real, not lost in concept or artiface, just straight-on truths from the heart. The music is deceptively simple, but listen and hear the ache and longing. They captured lightning in a bottle.

5 out of 5 stars The Alpha of "Arizona Rock" .......2006-09-28

I first listened to 'New Miserable Experience' in 1998, my freshman year of highschool. Being a new fan of light alternative rock, it was right up my alley and I superficially enjoyed the catchy tunes.

Eight years have passed and I have rediscovered 'New Miserable Experience'. People have analyzed the songs on this album over and over in these reviews, so I'll spare you that and just give my personal testament to the greatness of it's entirety. It used to (and still does) represent my memories from highschool and now it represents, maybe, the most prized jewel in my music collection. This album is even more applicable and poignant today now that I have dealt with adult situations like the ones constructed by the songs of 'New Miserable Experience'. It definately has some dark and emotional themes, yet it's somehow optimistic.

Learning to appreciate this album as the masterpiece that it is has been a wonderful experience. It's truly set the highest standard for any band that is directly influenced by the Gin Blossoms and, particularly, this album. It really is the 'Alpha' or the 'King' of the sub-genre they've pioneered that is "Arizona Rock". One can certainly draw the conclusion that the edgier, less refined sound of 'The Refreshments' and their genius debut album were strongly influenced by the Gin Blossoms. If you add 'New Miserable Experience' and 'Fizzy Fuzzy Big and Buzzy' together you get a strong core for this 'Arizona Rock'. Being a fourth generation Arizona native, I find some sense of pride in having such wonderful music originate here.

I hope to see those beginnings continue to evolve with new bands and new records. I'll keep my eyes open.

4 out of 5 stars Nothing new, but not miserable either........2006-08-16

The Gin Blossoms were one of many alternative rock bands to pop up in the early '90s. They weren't terribly original (for the most part, they didn't really do anything that Live or Toad the Wet Sprocket didn't do first, or better for that matter), but they definitely knew how to write a great melodic rock song. Adorned with great hooks and melodies, simple, earnest lyrics, and Robin Wilson's quality melodic voice, this is just a good solid slice of '90s alt rock.

The album is full of memorable pop rock tunes. It yielded two hit singles, "Hey Jealousy" and "Found Out About You", as well as "Allison Road", "Hold Me Down", and "Mrs. Rita", all of which are filled with dynamite melodies and huge hooks. Most of the songs are fairly similar to each other, mid-paced melodic rock, but the band adds a bit of diversity here and there. "Until I Fall Away" and "29" are excellent ballads, and there's even some experimentation with other genres, such as the country-flavored "Cheatin'", and the self-explanatory "Cajun Song", both of which are done very well.

Overall, this album isn't really anything amazing, but it's enjoyable throughout, and worth looking into for fans of alternative rock done right. And, the band have even reunited to release a new album, so maybe that'll be good as well. You don't see many bands like this anymore, and personally I think that's a shame. Now, all we need is some new Toad the Wet Sprocket...

5 out of 5 stars Wow.........2006-07-06

I heard a song on the radio by the Gin Blossoms back in about '92 when they first released this c.d.-was either Found Out About You or Mrs. Rita-- (If you know the history you know that it took (2) years for the c.d. to start getting any real airplay). I think I must have liked a song and either got the c.d. from the library or just bought it. I remember listing to the entire c.d. for the first time and just being blown away. There is not one, not ONE, bad track on here. And you know how some songs don't hit your right away, but they grow on you? Not here..I liked every one the first time I heard each of them. I think that Found Out About You is one of the best songs ever written and has a great sound. I've played and played this c.d. since I got it and I'd rank it up there with one of my favorite c.d.s of all time. And I don't just like this genre, I'm into Sabbath, pop, and even some country music. I like classic rock, and I like many of the new bands. This is just a plain, great work of music. And if you haven't seen them live you're missing out. They probably put on the best live show I've seen and I'm hoping they'll do it again when I see them in Columbus in August.

Part of the Sound Healing series from Soundings of the Planet, Tao of Healing teams flautist Dean Evenson with Li Xiangting, a professor from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and an authority on the guqin, an ancient seven-string zither from China. Their collaboration, with barely perceptible support from keyboards, acoustic guitar (Scott Huckabay) and percussion, is a hushed, serene, and inviting experience--as soft as the faintest breeze felt on a peaceful, sun-warmed afternoon. Evenson's meditative flute, which rarely strays from the instrument's comfortable low and middle ranges, is the disc's prevailing voice, with Xiangting's guqin discreetly supplying tasteful, angular accents to complement the Western vibe of Evenson's reflective improvisations. At times, in fact, this calming, slow-go disc (60 minutes in length) briefly conveys traces of jazzlike harmonics (largely Huckabay's contribution) that flavors the blissful proceedings with a nice touch of musicality. A slight soundalike quality might be detected in some tracks, but this is a minor quibble. This is Evenson's first recording where natural sounds are not included, though the liner notes assert the mix makes use of "earth resonance frequency" (7.8 hertz), all to enhance a listener's attainment of an alpha state. Actually, Evenson, Xiangting, and company do a commendable job of that on their own. A strong choice for supplementing massage or meditation. --Terry Wood

5 out of 5 stars Good for pets as well as people.......2007-03-03

I purchased this cd for myself, but noticed my Basenji seemed to relax a little whenever I put the music on. I often play it for her in repeat mode when I am going to be out. She is definitely "zen'd out" by the time I return!

I can best describe the music by saying that there are no loud instruments or uptempo arrangements to distract from the relaxation experience. The melody is soothing and uncomplicated, so it works well in many settings where a quiet mood is preferable (like doggie bath day). So do something nice for your pet...and yourself...and check out this cd. Alternately, I would recommend Dean Evenson's equally pleasant "Forest Rain" cd.

5 out of 5 stars nice.......2007-01-20

Students in my tai chi exercise classes for seniors prefer this--
over several similar CDs.

Maybe its the 7.8 hertz Earth Resonance Frequency in the mix?

Can be used also when doing the 24 Form Yang style--

Although "O'Holy Night" works wonders during the Christmas season
(5 and 1/2 minutes almost fits the Form perfectly.)

This music is so exquisite it brings tears of joy to my eyes. I have never been so moved. Wonderful for meditation or just relaxed enjoyment. A singer with perfect pitch and an enormously talented composer. This beautiful music will take you into presence.

5 out of 5 stars Heavenly.......2007-03-10

Singh Kaur's heavenly music is the perfect antitdote to a busy and stress-filled day. I easily come back home, to my most shining self, when I listen to her other-worldly CD.

5 out of 5 stars Equisite and Filled Eternal Bliss.......2005-10-12

Just exquisite! I love Singh Kaur from her Crimson Series releases and absolutely adored her previous collaboration with Gary Stadler on "Fairy NightSongs". But this new release fills me with such joy and wonder and opens my heart in a way that I have never experienced from music before. Singh Kaur's voice is radiant and pierces my soul with it's devotional passion and tenderness. I feel blessed to have found this magnificent piece of music. Thank you, thank you, thank you Gary Stadler for bringing Singh Kaur's final musical gift to us all. Many Blessings.

5 out of 5 stars All Pain And Sorrow Depart.......2005-09-14

As I've mentioned elsewhere I have a deep, visceral reaction when I hear Singh Kaur's voice. Suddenly I stop for a moment, as the wise say, my mind opens, and I remember that the problem isn't me, the problem is my reaction to the problem. This dates back to my first discovery of her series of chants done on the independent ?Invincible label with Kim Robertson on harp. This Crimson collection, her final recording, is the closest thing to healing music that I have ever heard. Unfortunately, the set has to be sought out or ordered, and many people simply have never heard what is one of the most powerful voices in new age music.

I don't know if I can put my finger on what exactly is it about her singing that does this. The Spark in the Night, the first cut on this album is a reworking of an old melody of hers. The simplicity of her voice, the purity of her tone fits right into the music. As her singing matured, her voice gained coloration, and this song works not simply as and easy melody, but it reaches the listener emotionally as well.

Most of the album (43 minutes) is spent on the title piece, this universe. Combining wit Gary Stadler, Lisa Lynne, and several others, it is meditation music perfection. While anything of this length is going to be repetitious, Singh Kaur manages to vary dynamics, rhythm and color so that even the repetition is soothing. This is no small accomplishment in a world where many people think that meditation music should be electronic choirs droning over electronic strings. Singh Kaur is never hackneyed.

Rather than drone on about Kaur's talents, I suggest that, if you are looking for the narrow path to inner quiet, you stop a moment and listen for yourself.

THis CD was a gift from a very dear patient I cared for. At the time of receiving it , I was begining to personally accepted Jesus CHrist as my savior, because I did not know Him before. I did not know of His love for me, His forgiveness, and His tender Mercies. I wanted to know Him...I was searching for a love that only He could give me. I questioned the gift He gives us of tounges etc. Well, since that wonderful man and his daughtergave this to me, I have listened to it almost daily for over 8 months I believe now. It is so cleansing! God can use anything He wants..I know He used this CD w/me. Freddy Hayler has one of the the most beautiful and powerful voices I have ever heard and since has opened doors for me that I cannot begin to tell in this short message! I recommend it more than anything you have ever purchased! People who have heard even a second of it playing, have asked me to copy it for them!

This is an awsome album which will break you. It reminds us how unworthy we are and how gracious GOD is. It gives us a glimpse of glory.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A magical masterpiece.......2005-08-30

On this exceptional album, Lisbeth incorporates world influences, irresistible pop hooks and folk sensibility to create a masterful and achingly lovely listening experience. From the first strains to the last, these songs will open your eyes and heart to Creator's presence, the divinity within all things, and the power of believing in love. It's truly a magical, holy voyage.
The album opens and closes with "Reveal", a beautiful, mysterious and tender piece, in which Lisbeth's angelic vocals sparkle. "To Love And Be Loved" is a testament to the power of true love, with it's message that "we're all here to love and be loved." "Give" is a stunning song, with a wonderful Celtic feel, fantastic uplifting lyrics, and such sincerity! "All Of These Years" is a song about second chances; with a fabulous pop vibe and a chorus you'll sing all day! "Grace" is my favorite song from the album, showcasing Lisbeth's range, and with lyrics that will bring you to tears. It's a powerful anthem! "Surrender" is a tender piece about giving your needs over to Creator, and Lisbeth's delivery is truly superb. "No One But You" has great orchestration, a catchy chorus, and as always, wonderful lyrics. "Stones" is all about forgiveness and release, and the lyrics will take your breath away with their sheer sincere intensity. The title track, "Passionate Voice", is a magical song about how our ancestors understood the union and oneness of God and humanity. It is very thought provoking, to be certain.
Lisbeth is a fantastic singer, and a glorious lyricist. Her passion is evident in every song, as is her beautiful spirit. Join her on this awesome journey. You'll be so glad you did!!! Worth every cent. A magical masterpiece. Highly recommended!!!

My wife and I heard a cut on the radio and were immediately moved. Stunningly beautiful. Healing. Hauntingly spiritual. Lisbeth Scott's voice speaks to my soul and evoke its peace.

5 out of 5 stars Passionate Voice.......2005-02-17

Lisbeth Scott, with her latest album, has created something completely sacred. Full of nature and passion, this is amazing, ethereal music.

Reveal: A haunting, lush melody. Lisbeth Scott's voice is really beautiful in this, with almost a breathy quality. 5/5

To Love and Be Loved: A very attractive song. The chorus is gorgeous. "Heaven knows, is the road to peace, heaven knows, that we're all here to love and be loved." 4/5

Give: Very nice and catchy. Echoes around in your head. "Oh love the sun is not so warm as when your soul meets mine. All darkness lifts to heaven's light and shines and shines for you." 4/5

All of These Years: This is one I constantly find stuck in my head. Although the tune can get slightly irritating, the lyrics are great. "May Queen, twirling in a pretty dress." 4.5/5

Grace: Lovely lyrics, nice instrumentals. Though Lisbeth can reach the high notes in this song, it makes my voice hurt just thinking about the strain. Other than that, beautiful and ethereal, yet powerful. "I lift my hands to catch the falling rain...I'm walking through a dream of ecstasy." 5/5

Surrender: Absolutely beautiful. Strikes a chord in my memory, brings back lovely visions. Wow. "Only darkness when I burn for the sun. All I hear is silence when I ask for song." 5/5

No One But You: Could have been trite, but the fresh tune bails it out. "Guess today's a less than perfect day. Wait it out until the fog has cleared." 4/5

Stones: A bit depressing, but the superb instrumentals reconcile it. The lyrics are wonderfully wise. "And so I can forgive these little stones. I'll put my own down." 3/5

Passionate Voice: The best here. Haunting, gorgeous soundscape, with lyrics as old as time. "In the beginning. Passionate Voice. Called from the arms of love to rejoice. One peace. One soul. One God. One home. One sound. One tear. One hand. No fear." 6/5

Reveal (Reprise): Almost Celtic in instrumentals. Completely amazing, unfolding slowly over time. Shakes you to the bone in a wonderful way. 5/5

5 out of 5 stars Soothing and Peaceful.......2004-12-30

Lisbeth Scott continues her legacy of soothing, peaceful, but passionate artistry. Close your eyes and allow yourself to be gently beckoned into revealing lyrics and innocence.

5 out of 5 stars Relaxation to the Heights!.......2001-09-28

I will never tire of this CD. I play it for prayer time, relaxation before retiring at night and whenever I just need calm, peace, tranquility and quiet. This CD has a haunting way of taking you into another state of mind and helps to release any tension. The chants of the monks lulls you to the above places and to your deep center. The background music is a marvelous mind alter-er that soothes you. This CD lives up to its subtitle: psycho-acoustic healing! Take it to your massage therapist to play while you relax! Outstanding!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2001-08-08

The first time I meditated with this CD, I had the best meditation that I have ever experienced. I seemed to go to a level where external noises and extraneous thoughts just didn't register. My meditation group now uses this CD regularly with powerful results for everyone involved. We are all in agreement that the second part, the chant to Amakua, is the best.

3 out of 5 stars a little disappointing.......2000-07-10

After reading the other reviews I was very exceited to get this CD. However, I had none of the experiences others noted. In fact, I found some of the vocals very depressing - wailing sounds of someone in a lot of emotional pain. The last song is good, and that is why I gave it 3 stars. The last song has what I believe are whale sounds and good vibrational tones to which my body responded.

5 out of 5 stars Wife and I have loved this for over a year........2000-06-03

My wife and I listen to this during the night. If one of us wake up we press the play button and we're back to sleep in no time. It's also awesome to meditate to. I've had some training in using music for healing and over the years I've heard nothing I love so much and never tire of hearing.

1 out of 5 stars disappointing.......2000-05-30

If you've listened to Tom Kenyon's Ghandarma and are looking for something similar you'll be disappointed. This music is completely different and the experience is not spiritual. This is ordinary background music

Album Description

QUIET FIRE marks the first meeting of three remarkable artists, each distinguished for shaping (and reshaping) the face of contemporary world music. The woodwinds of master flautist Gary Stroutsos; William Eaton's handcrafted stringed instruments; pan-global percussion by Will Clipman—disparate elements fused together in a meditative celebration of newfound common ground.

More than an exchange between musical minds, however, QUIET FIRE represents a new nexus of sound. Koto-harp guitar, Chinese bamboo Xiao flute, water drums, udu and other exotic instruments don't just mingle; they merge. The result: earfuls of open sky and whispering willows, a natural sound to unwind the mind and pacify the soul.

Attuned to the soothing hum of well-being, QUIET FIRE is a musical journey impelled by an innate sensitivity. To luxuriate in its depth is to gaze into the reflecting pool of the heart. The view will ignite your imagination and restore your spirit.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Not just for the Spa.......2004-09-07

This is just about the most sensual sound track ever recorded. Stroutsos will take the Xiao from Chinese antiquity to bedrooms everywhere. (Yes, you can meditate to it as well.) Even if you have heard Eaton before, you have never heard him like this --Koto-harp guitar, incredible! He balances Stroutsos perfectly while Clipman glues the trio together with everything from Water Drums to Udu. These three have made a unique contribution to world music that will live for years to come. This is a Grammy lock. If these guys ever play near you, it would be worth driving three states just to hear them. In the meantime, buy this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Spiritual Rhythms.......2004-08-25

Believe these wonderful musicians produced this CD with a true caress Heart and a deepest musical sense of love and harmony. No doubt, this is a must have CD. Just take my word for it.

5 out of 5 stars Dialogue of Enlightenment.......2004-08-17

Quiet Fire is a recording so tight, so pure and so beautifully gorgeous sounding - Stroutsos, Eaton and Clipman have produced a lyrical vision that shines from the mountaintop. This unique recording of love compels one to listen over and over in order to absorb the elegant and sophisticated nuances bouncing off the dynamic interplay between these three masters. White Swan Records is to be commended for the superb packaging and production. An evergreen title for years to come, Quiet Fire is deserving of a Grammy Nomination in the World Music category. We hope to hear more from this excellent acoustic jazz trio.

5 out of 5 stars Deep Relaxation.......2004-08-12

This CD is a fusion of a variety of cultural sounds. It is intriguing as well as deeply soothing. It allows the listener to float through the melodic variations of this blend of flute, percussion and guitar. Just when you think you have it figured out it twists and turns and develops another thematic mode. Truly unique and comforting. I'd recommend it highly!

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous CD.......2004-08-11

This is a wonderful new CD - one of the best of 2004. I am amazed that this is the first time these three very talented musicians - Stroutsos, Clipman, and Eaton - have recorded together. Let's support the genre - buy lots of their CDs and hope they record another soon. Each plays wonderfully and the range and blending of instruments is unique: Koto-harp guitar, Chinese bamboo Xiao flute, water drums, udu and other exotic instruments. The music has a great range in tempos and moods. I've seen Gary Stroutsos in concert - WOW! He is fabulous - I hope the three will go on tour soon. Thanks for a totally enjoyable CD that is one of the best in my large world music collection!!!

4 out of 5 stars Good album..........2004-02-14

I don't listen to John P Kee much but I went to a friend's shop and just decided to listen to it. I HAD to buy it!!! "I Do Worship" is one of my fave tunes. "Dance" is heavy but my real fave tune is "Breakout". That tune is mad!!!! The only thing that annoys me bout that tune is the drums, too overpowering and flat. But the album is good and encouraging, I like it. Any JP Kee fan should get this.

5 out of 5 stars You did again John P Kee & New Life.......2003-04-07

I love you my brothers and sisters!

5 out of 5 stars Musically Fit.......2003-02-10

As a musician, I find "Not Guilty" to be of a very high standard, musically. Calvin Rodgers is awesome and unmatched on the drums. The musicians kept the Groove in the pocket. This is a very professionally done project and it is an example of a "More excellent way" of ministering the Gospel in today's world.I listen to the CD daily. Who said that we cannot play Jazz, R&B, Rap, Hip Hop etc etc? Yes, "IT'S POSSIBLE" but the difference here is The Anointing; Lyrics to point folks to Jesus, and Music, saturated with the God kinda vibe played in the vernacular of the man on the street. Pastor Kee, you are a trend setter. Keep up the good work. So Folks, go out there and purchase a copy today. It will change your life.
