This cd is great because unlike other classical music cds made for babies, this one even adults can enjoy. Sometimes they change the song so that it sounds more like something a baby will appeal too, but this one just keeps the original song format which means even people without babies would be able to enjoy some of Mozart's classics.

This is a fantastic CD of beautiful music. It is uplifting and soothing at the same time. I have several good classic music compilations CDs, but this is my favorite and the one that gets played daily! When the littlest one is napping, it goes on. When I'm cooking, it goes on. When we have the TV off and the kids are playing games or making puzzles, it is on! It stays in my kitchen CD player so at a touch of a button, lovely music can fill the house.

Check out the samples above (my [...] especially likes #5, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star). It is not "children's music," a disc of lullabies, or something to reserve for baby shower gifts. I cannot say enough good things about this disc! This is great music that makes you feel good - if it is building our brains too, all the better! Try it and enjoy :)

I am a true fan of Classical music and this was purchased as a gift for a co-worker who is adopting a child from China. Therefore I did not open it nor listen to it. The recipient is now overseas picking up their daughter so I know they haven't had the opportunity to listen to it. I think it's a great idea, though.

The stories on CD are well written and very entertaining. I listened through all 3 CDs in one sitting when I got them! What's more, its sound quality is very good. I have other classical music CDs for kids and almost always I'm disappointed with the sound quality. (Violines sound like they have flu!)

This is a great buy for kids of all ages!!!

My two children, ages 7 and 5 received the Classical Kids Music Box, volumes 1 & 2 for Christmas this year and they can't seem to get enough of it! Each box contains 3 CD's, each on a different composer. Some are narrated by children and tell a story of the particular composer. Their popular compositions play in the background - this way the listener hears a partial biography of the composer as well as some music. Volume 1 contains stories of Handel, Beethoven and Vivaldi, and Volume 2 contains stories of Mozart, Bach and Tchaikovsky. I highly recommend this for all children who listed to music CD's, whether they're musically inclined or not.

To say this series of music is "CAPTIVATING" is a total understatement. We have enjoyed these immensely for 2 years now and are hoping they will continue to release more composers. These well-told stories will hold the interest of everyone at any age while introducing them to these brilliant composers. My son is a 12 year old AAA travel hockey player and listens to these CD's while going to sleep, every night, without fail! Last week he asked if he could go online to find music and I thought he was looking for something along the line of latest hits. What a surprise to find him looking for more of the Music Box Series. These collections are as valuable to classical music as Harry Potter has become to children's reading! The story of Beethoven is especially poignant, when you realize what he accomplished with his gift in spite of his many challenges. I won't give away the plots of these wonderful stories told in this series, however I will say they will be listened to over and over again! And just like Harry Potter, you can't wait for the next one!

Masterful emcee skillz and lyrics that poetically envision a positive vibe of life and energy backed by tight and somewhat mainstream beats, Tajai's Power movement is an excellent forray into the world of Solo albums. Power movement describes Tajai's take on life and the hip hop game down to the tee, live life, love life, respect, intelligence, question everything, come real and have fun. What more can you ask for? The words flow out of Tajai's mouth like butter from a cow's butt, smooth yet rugged, combining intellect with streetwise in a combination of poetic beauty. I enjoyed Power Movement through and through(save a few weak choruses). Every song has tight versus and the guest emcees rip it up. Pep Love, A-Plus, Shake Da Mayor, they all rip it with respect. Tajai is a master of lyrics and an underrated emcee, and I look forward to his next solo release(if there is one...) The beats are ill and will keep heads nodding and swayin while Tajai tears up the microphone in a smart crafty way. Heiro fans will surely love this CD, and so will true hip hop heads. Borderlines on commercial in a way and I think would appeal to fans who dig commercial hip hop. I actually lost my copy and am waiting until I can afford a new one.

I bought this when it first came out. There are two tracks I can do without, namely 'Raunch Rogue Skank.' It just doesn't speak to me, therefore I always skip it. But it does show that this man has many sides and isn't trying to put up this flawless front. There's no anti-woman lyrics, either, rather a song for the ladies called 'Quality Equality.' Other than that, this is good music to ride into rush hour traffic with on the Bay Bridge; Tajai's rugged voice often seemed to speak to and disperse my occasional bouts of road rage. This album is accessible but in no way generic, plus he has a lot good things to say. An intelligent, honest, gifted wordsmith.

The lyrics alone make this a classic. Tajai says alot of things people need to hear and questions others. tracks to peep: All of them! Hiero continues it's legacy as the greatest to ever do it plain and simple! in other words get this album and get your money's worth.

This is yet another excellent effort from Hieroglyphics. Hiero is the BEST kept secret in hip hop. I believe that this album is what Hiero, and fans of Hiero, have been looking for. The sencerity of the album allowed the collaboration of many co-producers to put down some really nice beats along with Tajai's ability to make any beat snap. (Track #2, "raindance" is a masterpiece). Best album from Hieroglyphics since Del's "Both Sides of The Brain." And I have to dig all the way back to Ol' Dirty Bastard's "Return to the 36 Chambers" album to think of a release so completely original without missing the point.

    a casual purchase in a 'new agish' shop, possibly in Des Moines, many years ago, this has become one of my favorite recordings. i have it at work and play it often when i need to feel awake, inspired or just need a general spirit lift. gangs of fun. i wish i could put loudspeakers outside my tiny library office and watch the people spontaneously burst into dance!

    As an afficianato of classics done with love and humour since Spike Jones Does the Classics on 78, this is clearly one of the best.
    All Warhorses to be certain, and all bringing a smile or guffah to the worthy listener. It is very hard to pick the best of this 4.0 cortege, but the complexities of the Tocata in D ring my power driver.
    The very best of this genre use very accomplished musicans to acomplish severe musical challenges, and this is no exception.
    I also note that some of the instrumentation on this superb compilation seem therminen at its best.
    Only reason to not buy this cd is a lack of a sense of humor, but then there are those from Cambridge dons [or is it dunces] whose nose's are out of shape at Wendy Carlos' Heaven & Hell.
    Even the Habanera has a fresh and vigourous sound, and the Air on G String is worthy of committed mayhem to possess.

    5 out of 5 stars A Welcome Relief!.......2002-06-29

    Aside from a couple of Supreme Court decisions limiting capital punishment, this has been a dismal week, with our ill-eagle, incompetent government trashing the Constitution, as usual. So -- it was an immense relief that I received through the mail a package of CDs today, one of which is Woody Phillips' TOOLBOX CLASSICS. I'm a fan of classical music humor, especially parodists like "PDQ Bach," Anna Russell, and the British composers who contributed to the Hoffnung Interplanetary Music Festivals, and I enjoy wood-working, but I'd probably never have heard of this obscure CD if it hadn't been played on our local Public Radio station. They've played at least two selections from the album while I was driving to the train station. I nearly crashed my car, laughing at Rimsky-Korsakoff's "Flight of the Bumblebee."

    There are a total of 14 lovingly parodied classical selections on the CD. Each is played with great expertise, both rhythmically and tunefully, by a trained composer who obviously knows these pieces. The difference is that the musical instruments are items found in a commercial machine shop, around a cabinetmaker's workspace, or in a better-than-average home workshop. They include a lowly broom, which, of course, enhances Dukas' "The Sorcerer's Apprentice." The liner notes furnish a handsome photograph of Paul Dukas wearing Mickey Mouse ears, and the explanatory text on each piece is almost as wildly funny as the music.

    The tonal range of the music Woody Phillips can get from power tools, especially drills and dremels, is simply amazing. He uses several sizes of power drills in "Ride of the Valkyries," in the hysterically funny 1st movement of Beethoven's Fifth, and, to obtain that busy-bee sound, in "The Flight of the Bumblebee."

    One of the cleverest of all the parodies is the first one, the dawn theme from "Thus Spake Zarathustra" by Richard Strauss, made famous in the movie 2001, which uses a large drill press motor, table saw, hand saw, 50 gallon drum, pipes, and vacuum cleaner. The results are not only amazingly musical, they hazarded my recent knee replacements when I came close to falling out of my chair, I was laughing so hard. (The large drill press motor provides a growling bass that Schnittke would have latched on to for his "Faust Cantata" tango.) Another 2001 theme, Johann Strauss' "Beautiful Blue Danube," brings the album to a rousing close with a workshop orchestra of truly Mahlerian proportions -- musical saw, small & large drill press motors, 2 by 4s, pipes, 50 gallon drum, jointer, vacuum cleaner, anvil, bottles (blown on), framing square, hammer, hand plane, file, table saw, ratchet, pneumatic nailer, power mitre box, antique hand drill and hand saw. A "power" mitre box? I have a mitre box, but how would you power one up?

    Anyway, if you want a treat, I recommend TOOLBOX CLASSICS. While listening you might want to pop HARDWARE WARS into your home video with the sound turned off, but don't eat popcorn; you'll probably swallow it the wrong way!

    This CD is a compilation of familiar classical pieces and is really fun to listen to! You will enjoy trying to identify the tools used. Both my dad and dad-in-law like classical music and are tool-types. This will be a great gift. (I already got one for my husband - that's how I've heard it.) I'm sure the inspiration was Home Improvement's theme song (or maybe this music inspired the show?). I'm not sure that the music is played note-by-note as it was composed and the pitch isn't perfect anyway, but you can recognize the pieces! It's a great gift!

    Please ignore the pretentious twaddle of the first review, and
    purchase this cd if you are looking for a wonderful performance
    of the Franck Symphony. Let a real music critic from American
    Record Guide Nov-Dec 1999 describe its merits: "Ormandy's Franck
    D minor gives the listener an almost perfect picture of his high-
    ly romantic style, as well as the famed "Philadelphia Sound" he
    cajoled from his players. The Philadelphia strings are rich, plush, velvety, plummy, ripe and roseate. Their ensemble is sleek, refined, near-perfect. Woodwind and brass are splendid, in a more conventional and less confrontational way,occasionally
    (but rarely) swamped by the string section. . . For Franck, Ormandy's tempos are well chosen, and his presentation is very hard to fault. As a romantically-oriented performance it is prac-
    tically unexcelled. Franck is generally seen as a romantic composer, so there's no reason to look further." Romantic
    is a positive word here, passionate and melodic. If you enjoy the symphony, check out Franck's beautiful and romantic Piano
    Quintet and String Quartet.

    2 out of 5 stars Listen carefully before you invest.......2000-07-19

    I have to jump in here and merely say that this reading, heavy and lethargic-sounding when it came out years ago, sounds even worse now. My colleague from Kyoto rightly places it in the school of Furtwangler and Mengelberg--two maestri to whom I can add Rodzinski and Karajan--who hadn't a clue of how to handle the Franckian, and Gallic, aesthetic.

    Franck's symphony is unpretentious but it is also full of power, drama, color, and kinetic energy. Ormandy seems to want to find a lot of meditation in the slow movement where there is none. Plaintive doesn't mean whiney. From the english horn on, the whole thing sags like a hammock on a sultry day and the color gets darker and more syrupy even to the point of priggishness where the last movement isn't even allowed to breathe much less move. Why would any interpreter think that anyone would write or want to listen to something like this?

    This is one of those old-time "Sweet Papa Franck" readings that perpetrated the inane notions of the composer in bad Music Appreciation classes. This is low-grade red vermouth when we've ordered a fine white Burgundy.

    For the leonine Franck who really was, try Paul Paray and the Detroit Symphony on Mercury to get full measure of the work. The light, the force, the drama, the organ-like wind writing, the overwhelming power of the orchestration hit you full force and stay with you. And on top of it all, you get Paray's magnificent reading of Rachmaninoff's Second Symphony to boot.

    Back with Ormandy: in the Variations, things go quite a lot better. Merely having Casadesus walk on stage got Ormanday to add some soda to the syrup, and the painist's bell-like and crystalline tones luxuriate like fine pearls laid across sable. Not that Franck was rabbit, but this fine wrap goes a ways afield from the light, sprightly, unassuming, kind of fizzy, "novel" work that Franck aimed to produce. Still, it makes fine listening. However, it in no way approaches the aesthetic integrity of Joyce and Munch, Schweitzer and Munch, Ciccolini and Cluytens, Ciccolini and Strauss, Wayenberg and Bour, or Long and Paray, to a name a few. It's your choice of how much stylistic integrity you want in the Franck you have in your collection.

    The Biggs filler makes a fine filler and a fine afterthought. Ormandy's symphony should have had the power and drama Biggs finds.

    Overall, not a good rating for not a good package.

    Franck's d-moll symphony is very difficult to perform in good condition. Mengelberg and Furtwangler are superior conductors for this work. However, please listen to Ormandy. His interpretation and his conducting skill are comparable to the two great conductors. It is marvellous. Symphonic Variations is also a perfect performance.

    I first got this CD when my child was 4 years-old. I originally bought it because I am a fan of Ms. Rowell's and I wanted to support her charity.

    The POWER is in this CD. My son was in his first year of preschool and would carry his great stimulation and inquisition into the evening, which would drain every ounce of thought, I had leftover from my busy day. Popping in this CD during bath time would not only calm him down, but the entire household. My husband, who is not a classical music fan, was much less iritable too.

    Soon, I began playing it during dinner and during the morning rush-hour, as well. The whole family now rests much more soundly and my now 6 year-old son, has an appreciation for all kinds of music....not just what his friends are listening to. We have since added many more classical CDs to our music library. I just wish it were around for the infant years. It will be for the next baby.

    I give this CD to every mother-to-be, that I know.

    What an absolutely listening joy. Every minute is inspired. I first heard this recording in 1960 and bought the CD when it was made available. Powerful, dramatic, joyful, exciting, and the quiet, mysterious opening immediately grabs your attention knowing that something special is coming and when it does you are not disappointed. Why is this symphony not played? It is a musical crime.

    I heard ONLY Vincent's Symphony in D on the radio, and immediately set out to buy it. It's great! Lively, exuberant, but not "loud" or discordant. Definitely festive. Oh, and well played--par for the course for Ormandy & the Phil. Have NOT heard the other pieces--yet. JF
