Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Def Jux Presents, Vol. 3 - reveiw from New Zealand!.......2005-09-08

To start, EL-P aka EL Producto deserves alot more respect for his work on this record.
Unlike the vast majority of reveiws, I rate this album.
Its not just the efforts of 1 or 2 MC's that make it dope, its a good sample of quality jux as a label, and after a few spins you'll see why. I give it the 4 stars solely on the fact that it could have been compiled in a better order or maybe a couple of other tracks added to the mix. Overall its a must have for any indie hip-hop fan.

2 out of 5 stars A nice pickup at a garage sale, but not at retail........2005-05-13

I bought this CD knowing I wasn't getting much (I only bought it for The Rock and Hangar 18 (I don't count the RJD2 track, or "Take No Chances", I already have those CDs), and the DVD, but the merchant I bought it from dicked me out of that part), so I wasn't very disappointed, this CD blows. In my opinion, Aesop Rock and Hangar 18 really make up Def Jux, with RJD2, Mr. Lif, and El-P being merely groupies. Of course, that leaves eveyone else to not even be mentioned. Overall, this CD almost makes you not want to pick it up, it seems so distant, like it doesn't want you included. Just as the cover reads: "'Cause Motherf*@$ers are Bored", it seems as though this compliation wasn't all that well thought out, even Aes' original track isn't his 'best'. The Hangar remix is a nice one and some other tracks are OK at best (i.e. "Medical Aid"), but all in all, this is a CD that can be used to put a few tracks on your xbox, then returned.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good compilation..........2005-05-13

The Aesop Rock and RJD2 tracks are really exceptional. I didn't like everything else, but that's really why I bought the album, to find out about good artists. If you're buying this for the same reason, or if you're completely new to the underground, I reccomend the Anticon label sampler as well.

4 out of 5 stars WHY THIS CD IS GOOD.......2005-04-13

OKAY NOW A LOT OF PEOPLE DONT THINK THAT THIS CD IS THAT GOOD, BUT LEMME SAY THIS. EVEN THOUGHT MOST OF THE SONGS WERENT AS STRONG DIDNT MAKE ME GIVE UP ON THIS CD. I GAVE IT ANOTHER CHANCE...THE STANDOUT SONGS TO ME OXYCONTIN PT 2 EL-P AND NEWLY SIGNED TO DEF JUX CAGE, BOH COME TOGETHER PRETT WELL IN THIS ROMANCE CONCEPT TRACK. THE HABGAR 18 SONGS INCLUDING THE BEATSLOPE REMIX WAS SUMTHING ELSE. THE FREE DVD OF MUSIC VIDEOS ARE A NICE ADDITION TO THIS CD, AND ALL THE VIDEOS ARE NICE HONESTLY. I WERE SUM OF YOU ID ACTUALLY LISTEN TO A CD, WITHOUT SKIMMING IT BEFORE ID GIVE AN OPINION ABOUT IT YKNOW....GIVE THIS CD A CHANCE YKNOW, BUT IF YOU LIKE HANGAR 18, CAGE, AND EL-P A MUST BUY

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 Stars... Very Good Compilation!.......2005-02-19

Some of the reviews have said this isnt a very impressive compilation. I would have to disagree. I have followed Def Jux for a long time, and I think this album is quite good. Yes, there are some lackluster tracks on here.. such as: Make News, Homesickness, Aquatic and Jello. Unfortunately these few that I have mentioned are practically unlistenable. But in contrast to these few poor tracks... both Aesop Rock tracks are nice, Rob Sonic's track is nice too. El-p's tracks are dope, Oxycontin 2 is a great concept track. Hangar 18 came off amazing on both songs. For the most part this album is not only good, it is great, but due to the 4 poor songs, I had to give it only 3.5 stars.
