1 out of 5 stars WHAT UP!!!.......2006-09-13

I'm a big DPG fan,and i was so excited when this album came out.But when i got it home and listened to it,i felt really let down. The production is very weak!!!If you like your DPG G-Funk,you won't like this album.Soopafly should of got the legendary west coast producer Battlecat to produce his album then it would of been a DPG classic.I'm sorry my dog,but this really is s**t!!!

4 out of 5 stars Solid "Debut" album.......2006-04-26

For his debut, as it's called, most of these are older songs from when he was on Death Row Records (and 4 or 5 are on other albums) , but it's still a nice CD and a must have for LBC/G-Funk fans. With 16 songs, 1 Soopa ain't on, you get 2 classics, 1 almost classic, 1 I skip (he ain't on it), 5 are ok, and the other 7 are good. Guests are on half of the songs (and almost all are his old Death Row/LBC homies) so you still get a good deal of Soopafly. Of course you know since him and Daz are doing all of the production (except one handled by LT Hutton- which is also a tight beat) you know the beats are going to be tight. A must have for DPG rap fans.

#1 - 8

#10 - 7 (f/ Snoop Dogg)

5 out of 5 stars YALL NIGGAZ BETTA RECONIZE.......2004-03-20

i really feel that this is one of the best albums i have ever heard. not a single track dissapoints me in any way, every song, verse, beat, guest, every thing comes to perfection on this album. the story behind this cd is that all this material was recorded for SUGE KNIGHT and his label DEATHROW RECORDS, in fact two of the tracks are on two other DEATHROW releases. when the label would not release this album [which at the time was called LIKE IT OR NOT] SOOPAFLY left THA ROW. when fellow DPG member DAZ DILLINGER got a hold of the album masters he released it for his homie on his label DPG RECORDZ. this is the final product that we almost didn't get.

1.YALL NIGGAZ BETTA RECONIZE-this some what of an intro track, the song is kinda short but it sets the album up. the beat is crazy and the lyrics are off the hook, it even features a sample from a very famous SNOOP DOGG song.

2.THIS TYPE OF FLOW-this is one of those typical SOOPAFLY songs that we have come to know and love. the lyrics for this track are amazing, and the beat is a sure knocker for all those bump in your truck kind out there.

3.HELL YA-this track first appeared on the WHITE BOYZ soundtrack, which i also own. this track features a guest verse from the 1 and only Tray Dee, and was produced by Daz Dillinger. this is a rap classic, the beat is gangsta i don't even now how to describe it, and SOOPAFLY takes his verbal skills to a whole nuther level.

4.CAN I GET BUCC-one of if not my favorite track from the album. not only does it have one of the best beats of all time but it also features DAZ and the great CROOKED I. DAZ rips the track first, then SOOPAFLY rips it with an even better verse then CROOKED just kills it, jam this athigh volumes.

5.WAY 2 OFTEN-the first of two tracks that was already a release from DEATHROW. this track first was released on THA DOGGPOUND-2002 album, but now hits here on this one. this track has a very bounce like beat to it and features my favorite rapper KURUPT. they both rap it out in a very origonal way, this is nuthin but a classic.

6.EVERYDAY-this track is one of the best all round produced tracks i have heard. the beat is very smooth and calm, and has a great soft hook to it. it features guest verses from LIL C-STYLE, TRAY DEE, and another one of my favorites BAD AZZ.

7.THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHA-the beat for this song is just crazy, i love the clap in it. this song features great guest verses from RICHIE RICH, DAZ, and the lost OUTLAW member gonzo, who i feel drops the best verse. u will love this track.

8.BACC 2 L.A.-this track features DAZ, and XZIBET, and has one of the best beats i have heard from SOOPAFLY. this is just over all a really fun song, to bad XZIBET isn't cool with DAZ anymore.

9.LIKE IT OR NOT-the other one of the two, this was first featured on the DEATHROW cd CHRONIC 2000. this probably my favorite song from SOOPAFLY ever, i love the way he uses two diffrent styles in this, the rap/sing he has goning on. and the beat from L.T.HUTTEN is one of the best ever. and in fact this was actually one of the singles from CHRONIC 2000. u should check out the video for it at THAROW.COM.

10.DAT WHOOPTY WHOOP-ah yes the title track, what can i say about this. well first off out of ll of the tracks this one is probably my least favorite as far as the beat goes. don't get me wrong it's nice but not like the others. but it is probably the best as far as SOOPAFLY's lyrics go. it also makes sense to have SNOOP DOGG on this song, he fits in perfectly.

11.PIMP CITY-this another real fun song, it features DAZ and has a nice hook to it. the beat is real bouncy and the lyrics are hot.

12.PHONE CONVERSATION-this one of my favorites, SOOPAFLY has some brilliant lyrics on this one, and the beat is perfect. but the best part about this track is that it has a wonderfull hook. u will definintlly like this one.

13.PLAYIN GAMES-see previous awnser

14.WHY YOU WANNA ACT THIS WAY-the beat for this track is crazy, SOOPA did a great job on this one, his lyrics are on point and the hook is great and funny. also the great BAD AZZ raps on the even thow he is not credited.

15.FREAK FREAK-the final track with SOOPAFLY, and what a way to end it for him. this track has a great beat and some really funny lyrics. this is another great track.

16.BABY BOY-this is more of a bounos track then any thing. it is a solo song from former DEATHROW singer Jewell. i pearsonaly don't jam it all the time but it is still a very good song none the less. i would recommend this song to any one.

3 out of 5 stars DPG Recordz Soopafly LP makes for good DPG music!.......2004-03-01

Not really an actual debut from Soopafly but an uneven collection of songs from his scrapped Death Row solo released on Daz's independent label, "Dat Whoopty Woop" is not exactly Soopa's finest work but if you're a fan and looking for some of his stuff to bump in your stereo, this will probably have to do for awhile. Joining the long list of very underrated artists and producers, Soopafly, possesses a very talented flow and some great producing talent to boot. "Whoopty Woop" as Soopa tearing up the mic with the whole Dogg Pound family on a collection of forgotten hits.

The guest list for "Whoopty Woop" includes Snoop Dogg, Daz, Kurupt, Bad Azz, Tray Deee, Crooked I, Richie Rich, Lil' C-Style, Jewell, and a host of others with production handled by Soopafly and Daz. Most of the tracks are hit n' miss and one of the biggest set-backs is that three of the best tracks ("Everyday", "Like It Or Not", "Phone Conversation") aren't quite mastered properly and don't sound nearly as loud as the others. "Everyday", a DPG anthem is on a laid-back tip as Soopa trades verses with Lil' Style, Tray Dee, and Bad Azz. This is probably my favorite track on the album and it makes for a great spring or summer song. On "Bacc 2 L.A.", Soopafly comes tight but Daz and Xzibit manage to steal the show from him with their verses. Daz shows that he and Fly have the same hit-making chemistry as him and Kurupt on "Pimp City" where the two both work very well of each other. The concluding outro is hilarious though some might find it a bit juvenile.

As a fan of Soopafly's guest work on compilations and other DPG member's albums, "Whoopty Woop" didn't quite live up to my expectations but I would still recommend it to anyone looking for a hot Dogg Pound record. If DPG Recordz had done a little bit better job on the sound quality as well as the overall organizing of the album, this could have been a classic.

5 out of 5 stars Instant classic, painfully under-rated........2002-03-10

Soopafly delivered a classic debut and the fact it has been overlooked because of lack of promotion is simply a tragedy. Everything is included in Soopafly's debut: nice beats, excellent spitting, and the usual gangsta lyrics. This album is somewhat similar to Daz Dillinger's classic Retaliation, Revenge And Get Back, except this time around it's Soopafly's turn. This album would not be out of place on Death Row's old classic catalog. This makes sense though, because a lot of tracks on this album were recorded for Death Row in the more golden age. A wide variety of West Coast guests appear on this album, such as Kurupt, Daz Dillinger, Ritchie Rich, Crooked I, Tray D, Bad Azz, Gonzoe, Snoop Dogg and Xzibit. Though the album was released under low-budget circumstances, the music sounds just as good, wait actually, better than about 95% of the big label rap albums. Excellent quality, Dat Woopty Woop is a great slice of Long Beach gangsta rap at its finest.

The album starts out with an introduction song called "Y'all Betta Recognize" which is a decent track and basically sets up the album to come. It has a good beat and a voice sample of Snoop during the chorus, and then it moves into a short skit. "This Type Of Flow" is a classic jam, Soopafly utterly rips this song and the beat is undescribably dope. This is one of those head-nodding songs, a definite rewind track. "Hell Yeah" originally appeared on the White Boys Soundtrack, with a tight horn beat from Daz, and Soopafly tearing the track with two nice verses. Tray D also gets into this track nicely. Another energy-filled song which sounds very good. "Can I Get Buck" is a down to earth hip-hop jam featuring Crooked I and Daz Dillinger. Everyone gets a piece on this track, with its hardcore guitar beat, and check out the hilarious Bevis & Butthead sample at the end. "Way Too Often" features Kurupt, this track has been floating around various tapes but is still a classic, Kurupt came with a really great appearance and Soopafly also shines over a sunny West Coast beat. This song also showed up on Dogg Pound 2002. The rhyme effect used here is very good. "Everyday", featuring Lil' C-Style, Tray D and Bad Azz is a great summertime track, once again everyone gets a piece on this bright beat. It seems like everything was going well when this song was recorded. "There Will Never Be Another" is an all-time classic pimp jam featuring Daz Dillinger, Ritchie Rich and Gonzoe from The Outlawz. Soopafly and Gonzoe steal the show on this track, and the beat is awesome. Everyone comes off nicely. "Back To L.A." features Daz and Xzibit over a Chinese-sounding beat. The chorus is hilarious and the production effects are nice. "Like It Or Not" is the single that introduced Soopafly to the mass public with Death Row and is a good addition to the album, the beat is very nice with a slight spanish-tinge, and Soopafly is very entertaining on this track. "Dat Woopty Woop" is probably the album's best song, and it features Snoop for a great song about girls. Definitely one of the better West Coast tracks to come out in a long time, the beat is great and both Soopafly and Snoop shine. "Pimp City" features Daz again, and was a leftover from Retaliation, Revenge And Get Back that never made the album, so it's finally been released. A very good track with nice keyboards and a smooth chorus. "Phone Conversation" is a nice laid-back song where Soopafly spends a verse apiece talking about people he needs to put back in their place. One of Soopafly's better solo joints. "Playin' Games" is a nice track where Soopafly talks about a girl who tried to play him, the beat is good, but overall it isn't one of the groundbreaking tracks on the album. "Why You Wanna Act This Way" features Bad Azz and even has a brief narration from Big Pimpin', the chorus is pretty funny, the beat is amazing! Soopafly rips the song in two, all in all another classic. "Freak Freak" is a tight party track, a very good beat and some hilarious lyrics from Soopafly. Great track. "Baby Boy" has a nice slow beat but it's just a solo track for Jewell, the singer who was always wailing away on various Death Row songs. The track isn't bad but it's nothing special either, it ends the album on only a decent note.

Overall, this album is hard to find but is worth the look. Soopafly didn't disappoint at all. The only criticism is the recycled song and the pointless final track by Jewell. However, other than that, you're in for a treat if you buy this. It's a shame Death Row lost Soopafly for both, because Soopafly can't get the same good promotion and Death Row lost a true West Coast talent. Recommended.
