A band to WATCH... literally.......2000-11-01

This eccentric, savvy band of London-based troubadours and their riotous mix of Cajun, folk and country rhythms is anything but normal. An evening in the company of Menlo Park is more reminisent of a travelling circus than a gig. It involves fire eaters, puppetry, flea circus, cockroach races and Philadelphia-raised frontman Chris Taylor leaping from the balcony, suspended by a harness on elastic ropes.

Remarkable stage performance aside, the music never takes a back seat. Their always edgy, provocative lyrics cleverly laced by a sometimes dark sound that says "Listen, but keep your tongue firmly planted in your cheek".

This energetic, intimate blend of viola, mandolin and accordion tinged folk and country. Nick Cave, The Pogues, Les Negresses Vertes, Tom Waits and the voodoo rhythms of Dr John all spring to mind when trying to take in the band's larger than life impression.
