The good die young........2006-05-29
First the singer out of Mike and The Mechanics then Scatman (or it might have been the other way round). A shame as Mr John was clearly an immense talent with the world at his feet and was no doubt about to change the face of music forever. Remember him through his music.
Great song by a great guy.......2003-10-07
He will always be rememberd, A guy who overcame his stutter, and made a song about it. As he wold say it:
'As a matter of fact don't let nothin' hold you back.
If the Scatman can do it so can you.'
To bad he died in 1999.

This is the most comprehensive of Disney collections, though the Classic Disney series is more up to date. Spread across three discs, the set features hits and forgotten favorites from movies, TV, and the parks (although more thorough work remains to be done in the last regard). Since the Disney catalog is in a state of constant change, this is the only place to get some songs that aren't currently available; these days it's a rare treat to hear "Cruella De Vil" from 101 Dalmations, "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah," from Song of the South, and Annette's theme from The Monkey's Uncle. A thick CD booklet is included, putting the songs in the context of Walt Disney's long, astounding career. --John Sanchez
Customer Reviews:
The Best Dinsey Collection.......2002-01-25
This expansive and detailed collection of Disney music is the best out there. I've had mine since it came out in 1991, and I can't tell you how many times I've played each of it's three CD's!
CD 1 starts off with the first Disney song in a cartoon, 'Turkey in the Straw' from Steamboat Willie and travels through the years (and 27 tracks) to The Sword and the Stone with 'Higitus Figitus'. Along the way films such as Pinocchio, Fantasia, Melody Time, Song of the South, Treasure Island and Sleeping Beauty are covered.
CD 2 picks things up in 1962 with 'Supercalifraglisticexpialidocious', and runs through 20 tracks to 1991's 'Beauty and the Beast'. No rare songs are included on this disc, but a song or two from each animated film made in this time period is nothing to balk at.
CD 3 heads in a new direction (that of live action, cartoon series and the Theme Parks) and serves up many gems and rarely heard recordings. Some of the 31 tracks included are; 'Enjoy It', 'The Ballad of Davy Crockett', 'Mister Piano Man' sung by Annette Funicello, the 'DuckTales Theme', 'Meet Me Down on Main Street', and the entire score for the 'Main Street Electrical Light Parade'!
This set goes one step further by including a 60-page book that illustrates with words, and many full color pictures, Disney's musical legacy and packs it in a record sized keep-sake box. Much of the information in the book is enlightening and it does a superb job of giving backstory to the creation of the songs included. I've refrenced it many times and have always found it helpful.
Yes, this set doesn't include songs from Toy Story, Tarzan or any of the more recent Disney offerings, but remember it was made in 1991. No matter though, over 10 years later, it's still the best and most comprehensive collection to date and believe me, I have enough Disney recordings to know! It's IMPOSSIBLE to be disappointed by this collection!
I LOVE IT!!.......1998-10-03
I take a trip to DIsney World Florida every year and before this latest trip I got this CD set. It is great!! I LOVE IT!!
Jess
A must have for Disney Freaks!.......1998-08-24
This is by far my favorite of Disney Albums. If I could have designed it I would have made the first disc 100% animation, the second for live action and TV, and the third music from the parks.
The only reason that the score isn't higher is because I would have liked to have more music from the parks.
That aside, this is a great addition to the CD collection.
A Jewel in the Crown of Disney Music.......1998-08-05
The Music of Disney: A Legacy In Song is one of the strongest complilations of Disney music to date. The box set offers a sampling of timeless classics such as It's A Small World (After All), Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah and Someday My Prince Will Come. Not to be missed are some lesser known treasures including The Swamp Fox and Fortuosity. The box set features songs from theme park attractions, animated movies and cartoon shorts. With seventy-seven songs to choose from children and adults alike will be entertained for over twenty hours. The arrangement of songs also adds to the uniqueness of The Music of Disney: A Legacy In Song. Medolies of songs are arranged to compliment each other. Theme park songs are arranged fairly close together to allow an even flow throughout the cd. You will find no choppy arrangements in this compilation. Another feature that impressed me was the value of the box set. With the typical cd ranging from $12.99 to $18.99 for ten songs, it is a great valu! e to find almost eighty songs for about forty dollars. The title of this piece is correct in its wording of "A Legacy In Song." It indeed serves as a timeline of Disney music. I highly recommend The Music of Disney: A Legacy In Song to children of all ages. Its a way to bring home the magic of Disney into your own living room.

Nothing Short Of Genius.......2000-11-29
This is a fantastic album from a fantastic talent.
It follows on superbly from where 'Scatman's World' left off, and tracks such as 'Scatmusic' and 'Let It Go' clearly look forward to the scheduled 'Scatology' album, which was unfortunately never completed due to John's sad departure in December '99...
Here's hoping for a Best Of album ASAP....
R.I.P. John Larkin.......1999-12-08
I just found out today that sadly Scatman passed away on Dec 3rd through terminal Cancer. I Truly enjoyed all his music i managed to get hold of and heard, and realise he had a meaning even though it was dance music. His music will live on in me for a long time ;o)
This one won't disappoint.......1999-11-13
After the monumental success of Scatman John's debut album, 'Scatman's World'... it seemed to be amazing that John could ever go one better - and he has. "Everybody Jam!" is a great album with everything from John's trademark catchy dance beats to the reflective and emotive songs which John carries off with ease. If you bought the "Scatman's World" album, buy "Everybody Jam!" - like millions of others, you'll love it.
Man it stole my heart.......1999-11-06
The follow up to the hugely popular Scatman's World does not dissapoint. This is a better album than the first (not to say the first one is rubbish, it's not).
Look out for the tracks, Let It Go, Stop The Rain, Everybody Jam!, and We've got to learn to live together. But all of them are fantastic.
Lebanon made me cry, see what it does to you
I am thoroughly impressed with this album........1998-09-10
Scatman John's album "Everybody Jam" has got everything, great beat, intelligent lyrics. It's all around fun, not to mention addicting. Why BMG America hasn't released Scatman John's albums in the U.S. is the most puzzling question!( Only available as an import ) If you like to dance and you like fun music, you must hear this album. I can't wait to hear Scatman's other albums!

What's not to like?.......2007-07-06
I remember hearing the Scatman song when this album came out and paying no attention to it. It was cute and catchy, but I soon forgot about it. Well, here I am 10+ years later writing a review. I got the album recently, and I'm sorry I didn't get it sooner. This is pop music in the best sense of the word. The whole album is catchy, upbeat, and fun to listen to. I get the feeling the whole scat/dance beat combination was probably expected to yield only a novelty hit when Scatman John first recorded, but to his credit his talents proved appealing and the man sold millions worldwide. The album comes in at 48 minutes or so, and you'll enjoy listening to every single one.

An excellent epitaph.......2003-01-05
I was in Japan when I heard of the death from cancer of Scatman John (Larkin). Sad news, as I felt he was about to be a big star.
I hope he was pleased with the finished album, as "Scatman's World" is very intoxicating, full of scat and very tuneful. The two singles, "Scatman" and "Scatman's World", are brilliant, but "Quiet Desperation", "Song Of Scotland", "Time" and "Only You", to name four, are just as good.
A mix of disco and jazz-influences, it's really pleasing to the ears and just a whole lot of fun.
Good one Scat!
Another Smash.......2001-01-23
Re-released time and time again due to it's popularity. This album holds the world record for being sold in more countries than any other in 1995 and 1996. Five stars and kudos to the Scatman.
Scat Attack!!.......2000-12-07
Now scat may not be everyone's cup of tea (Heaven knows, I've spent many a wasted hour trying to persuade my friends to give it a go...), but in the Scatman, it seems, we find an easily approachable introduction.
Indeed, John's music incorporates elements of many popular genres: from the trusty disco beat, to dabblings with rap. Styles are blended expertly as the Scatman pushes forward and leaves others who have tried similar techniques barely touching cloth.
Equally, there are elements of more traditional jazz motifs inherent in the music. Even so, it is unlikely that you would ever see John's face on the front of any Jazz magazines you might find in your local newsagent (or indeed in any of the more specialised publications).
That the collectors' press has rarely made an attempt to truly log John's work may not be suprising. While it does creep away from the (often unwelcoming) scatological circles, the direction is undeniably Popwards, and this is where, I'm sure most will agree, Scatman finds most success.
If you liked the chart triumphs, 'Scatworld' and '(I'm a) Scatman', just wait until the Scatmeister really lets rip.
Be warned... this is a full on scat-fest that will hit you right between the eyes. And leave you gasping for more.

Hai, Everybody Dance!.......2001-01-23
In this single Scatman John goes back to the style that made him so popular to start with - infectious, catchy, jazzpop techno. Singing half in Japanese, half in English, with a crowd of roaring fans, this one will get you moving. We played this at a party and not one person was on the sidelines - everyone was on the dancefloor, and that's what it's about!
