Aaron Copland is for me one of three of America's greatest composers of the 20th Century. Bernard Herrmann and Jerome Moross are the other two. Aaron Copland would have been 100 years old on November 14, 2000. In reflection I turn back to my first Copland album, "Copland's Greatest Hits." I was familiar as most people are with "Hoe Down" and that was the springboard for me. What attracted me was that distinctive "American" sound and "American" quality of the piece. This "American" sound is very present in Jerome Moross' score for the epic Western film, "The Big Country." One can also find similar influences in Bernard Herrmann's score for "The Kentuckian" and very much like Copland, Herrmann researched and interpolated regional folk songs and integrated them into his own unique style. Because I always liked film scores and also very much liked Copland's "Hoe Down" I always thought there had to be some connection with the musical approach. When I got this album and listened to "Appalachian Spring" for the first time I knew that I had discovered pure "Americana" and I have found that sound replicated in so many films. If you listen to the scores for "The Natural" or "Field of Dreams" or even recently to "Saving Private Ryan" this sound is present. This is a tribute to Copland and American music. Copland reinvented American music by giving it his unique structure. Copland's music is so simply melodic yet richly textured that it has an inherent sophistication that defines our nation. This is my favorite Copland album. That may be sentimental, but it helped me try to define a sound that I personally found moving and uplifting. I highly recommend this album of collected recordings. The recording of "Appalachian Spring" on this CD performed by the New York Philharmonic and conducted by Leonard Bernstein is my favorite recording of this piece to date.

I marvel at this CD every time I listen to it. This CD features Aaron Copland conducting the Boston Symphony in a performance of his own Appalachian Spring. There are many poignant hesitations and nuances in this performance. There is good reason why this piece has become synonymous with Americana -- listen to it, close your eyes and just let the images unfold.

This CD also contains Eugene Ormandy conducting the Philadelphia Philharmonic in the Billy the Kid Ballet Suite. It is a spectacular performance as well.

Every cut on this CD is very good. My personal favorites are "Appalacian Spring", and the "The Tender Land - Finale: The Promise of Living." I would recommend this CD to anyone who is a fan of Classical Music.

This is no doubt one of the most beautiful classical CD's I have ever listened to. Copland was and is an extremely gifted composer.

In 1990 the Disney Channel formed its own teen group to cash in on the success of teen acts like New Kids On The Block, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, etc. Rather than doing a nationwide search, they pulled 5 cast members from their already popular Mickey Mouse Club (which at the time was a brand new version of its 1950s predecessor). At the time I was 13 and watched MMC religiously and was already familiar w/ the 5 chosen, Chase Hampton, Tiffini Hale, Deedee Magno, Damon Pampolina and Albert Fields. They became an instant hit w/ the teen magazine crowd and "The Party" as they were christened by a "name the band" contest was born! They were on the cover of every teen rag, teens stormed malls at their in-store appearances, etc. Oddly enough they only had 1 top 40 hit during their brief career (though they did score several notches on the Billboard Hot 100). That hit, a dance cover of Dokken's
IN MY DREAMS, and other favorites are all here. Apart from the technical glitch of omitting vocals on the first few tracks (how on earth that happened is beyond me) this is a nice collection. My biggest complaint is it only spans their first three albums. From the early teen pop offerings such as "I Found Love" to the dancier/r&b "Free", you can see how the group evolved. However, by not including selections from their farewell album "The Party's Over...Thanks For Coming" (get this album now!!!) listeners will never hear just how far they actually came. Of note is the inclusion of "Let's Get Right Down To It" sung by Tiffini & Albert. This song was, believe it or not, produced by none other that Dr. Dre. While there were only 3 standout vocalists, Deedee, Albert & Chase, one can especially hear how much Tiffini grew. As for Damon, to this day I am convinced he was only in the group for eye candy. He was a hottie!

Where are they now you ask? Chase (or Chasen as he goes by now) has a small cult following w/ his band Buzzfly; Deedee went on to star in MISS SAIGON on broadway recieving glowing reviews and continues to perform mainly in theatre; Albert released a solo effert under the name "Jeune" that was very rock/funk/r&b and rumor has it he has a funk band of his own; Tiffini has fallen off the face of the earth, rumour has it she was trying to get into acting post-Party; Damon Pampolina has been acting here and there (MTV's "Undressed") and from what I hear is currently hosting a show on Playboy TV. So while ex-MMCers such as Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake are now household names, don't forget about those who came before them. The Party was my favorite teenage group growing up and I still listen to them on a regular basis. It's great to know there are still fans of this forgotten group out there.

If you dont know it this was some of the first members of the hit now defunct New Mickey Mouse Club. When Aguilera and Spears came out I didnt understand why people were saying they were from the Mickey Mouse Club Show. I watched Mickey Mouse until the Last season when I guess Spears and other famous teen stars came from. I just want to know they werent on there too long or the original cast members. These members of this dance/pop group are the original members and I have to say they are alot more talented that the neo teen pop of today. Although the music is outdated circa early 90s) they still have good songs. I guess their former label Hollywood Records must of had this album in a vault somewhere because they didnt take the time to remaster or put in the lead vocals for this greatest hits album. If you did not watch early New mickey mouse club from 89-91 you probaly would not of heard of this talented bunch. Another thing that is ironic is that none of the original cast made it big but yet the less talented, latter cast ( ala britney, aguilera, timberlake hit it big) Just goes to show you looks is everything talent is optional in America. Note: In Europe it is about talent not looks to get a record deal. Alot of less photogenic great singers have much success in Europe.

the members in this group were in the first season of the new mickey mouse club show & then formed into a music group in the early 90's. the music is good & poppy. the slower songs r kinda corny, but the rest is good. the track "in my dreams" i think is the best song on the cd & if played loud u may start dancing. i didnt know there was a greatest hits cd so i know ill be buying it. i have their first cd, thats how i know of the group & i used to watch the mickey mouse club. other former mouseketeers to hit the music scene & to check out are britney spears, nsync & christina aquilera. this cd is definately a check it out if u like pop so go on & put it in your shopping cart.

I had never heard of this band until a few moments ago. Not so much my style, but a friend of mine pointed out that I looked rather a lot like the stupid-hand-signal guy in the back... Eerie. I even had my hair in a similar style at one time (though no more... It's the 21st century, after all). I think I may buy this album just for the marvel of it... Then again, maybe not.

I really dig this group's big hits ("That's Why", "I Found Love", etc). But you'll never believe this one... the engineer who mastered this CD screwed up big time! It's amazing, but the record company has produced this Greatest Hits CD while accidentally *omitting the lead vocals*. Yes. I know. You're probably thinking this is some sort of joke. So did I. I can't imagine the band members' broken hearts when they first got their own copies of the CD. It's definitely one for the record books! I will have to search auctions for the album that actually *has* these songs on it, which I think is called "The Party" and is out of print.

This 2 disc continuous party mix is one of the best of it's kind
ever! The Riddler produces and mixes all the tracks unexageratedly, preserving the original music subject and lyrics.
You can blast the volume for a real club feel or keep it subdued as background. Even the toe tapping wall flowers will be satisfied as the vocals are left in midrange. They won't miss a word! I intend to play this at my next cocktail party. Theres no explicit language to worry about with the kids. The whole package is sophisticated and fun!

I am delighted by this Cd I believed it was going to be the same old mix Cd but, as I put it into my Cd player I realized it is a great Cd. It is very well mixed and The Riddler has done a great job creating it! There are just too many good songs on this album that I can't name them all. This Cd is a must have for your Party, Club or Dance collection with 21 great songs there is no going wrong in purchasing it. My personal favorites are "Better Off Alone (Jam X & Dumonde Remix)" by Alice Deejay, "I Turn To You (Hex Hector Mix)" by Melanie C, and "Let Me Go...Release Me (Johnny Vicous Remix) by Veronica. All and all this is a great Cd and I would recommend it to everyone.

    Some CDs are cursed with having weak songs in between strong songs. this one does not have that problem.

    Take on Me - This seems to show up on ots of comliation CDs, but it is OK.

    Only in My Dreams - Perhaps Debbie Gibson's best song. Very sweet.

    You Got It All - My favorite love song. Highly addictive

    What You Don't Know - Expose has done better, but gives a stronger beat than most of these songs.

    Rock On - This is a tune that will just stick in your soul.

    Lost in Emotion - Maybe the weakest track on this CD, but definitely has its moments.

    I Like It - Underappreciated

    I Remember Holding You - Absolutely lovely

    Nothing's Gonna Change My Love for You - Sappy, but in a good way

    5 out of 5 stars Hey, What About Cyndi Lauper's "I Drove All Night"?.......1999-11-29

    I'm VERY confused. I'm holding this disc as we speak and MY copy contains neither Jody Watley's "Real Love" nor Information Society's "Walking Away." Instead, my copy includes Cyndi Lauper's "I Drove All Night," which makes this disc far more worthwhile. Granted, "I Drove All Night" is more of a pop rock song, but it IS the reason I purchased this volume. Besides the added allure of one of Cyn's songs, there are some great tracks here that we'd be hard-pressed to find on other '80s dance compilations. Besides "I Drove All Night," there's Nu Shooz' infectious "I Can't Wait," Soul II Soul's "Back To Life," Taylor Dayne's "Tell It To My Heart," and ABC's "When Smokey Sings." This eclectic collection is one of my favorite 80s discs, if only for its rare tracks and pumping beats. Here's hoping you make a smart purchase and find Cyndi Lauper's contribution included!

    80's Greatest Rock Hits Volume 11 has such great 80's songs as Nothings Gonna Change My Love for you. It is the perfect CD for anyone who was a teenager in the 80's and remembers these songs when you were with a date, it is also perfect for those just looking for great examples of 80's music that was very popular with 80's teenagers.
