Fans of (largely) mellow songs by (mostly) American indie rock outfits should snap up this superior soundtrack. Representative of the mood is "Pills" by Gary Jules--an original song that feels as Cat Stevens-indebted as Jules's popular cover of "Mad World" on the Donnie Darko soundtrack. Foo Fighters' "Razor" and Paul Westerberg's "Let the Bad Times Roll" see these acts at their calmest. Largely acoustic and gently paced, the CD almost never raises its pulse, and even when it does, as with Audible's "Sky Signal," it remains appealingly melodic. While most of the tracks are from the mid-'00s, it's great to hear the Lemonheads's 1992 "My Drug Buddy" again--it still counts as one of Evan Dando's finest moments. And although the flavor is largely American, trips across the pond result in lovely tracks by the Magic Numbers who supply their customary Mamas and Papas-influenced harmonies on "Mornings Eleven," and by Gomez with their shuffling "These 3 Sins." --Elisabeth Vincentelli

I really liked this movie but love the soundtrack. I have discovered new artists from this movie like Joshua Radin and Death Cab For Cutie(heard of them, never listened before). I normally don't get into the soundtracks for movies but this one caught my attention, I recommend it to anyone.

I was surprised by how much I liked the music in this "chick flick" -- the songs were a lot more deep and interesting than I expected (actually the film was pretty good and thoughtful, too, but that's not the point here). Anyway, good songs, they work well together, and it's really an enjoyable indie pop mix. Nice job, music supervisor!

A Special, Brilliant Soundtrack.......2007-03-04

Perhaps the oddest thing about being a music reviewer is the way that it causes such a social imbalance in my life. The average person watches a lot of television, sees two or three movies each month, and listens to whatever pleases them. I, however, watch very little television, virtually never go to the movies, and listen to dozens of albums that mean virtually nothing to me. It causes a social imbalance that ultimately renders my opinions on music obtuse, because I am clueless regarding most aspects of pop culture. I bring this up because I'm fairly certain that I will never see the movie "Catch and Release," but I've listened to the soundtrack a few times now, and I think it's great.
As a soundtrack, "Catch and Release" features some of the most intelligent and tuneful pop music I've heard in a while. You'd expect as much from Death Cab for Cutie and Gomez, but it's the more obscure acts who really bring something special to this collection. I've never heard of Blinker the Star, or The Magic Numbers, or Gary Jules, but if this is representative of their work, I want to hear more by them. The songs they contribute here are bright, imaginative and impossible to forget. As soundtrack fodder, the material is excellent. As a mix-tape of cleverly chosen and challenging music, it's virtually faultless. Foo Fighters kick off the disk with one of their best acoustic-based tracks ever, a pensive, moody piece called "Razor," and the pace continues for the next seventeen tracks. Besides the above, other highlights include The Lemonheads ("My Drug Buddy"), New Radiant Storm King ("The Winding Staircase") and Paul Westerberg ("Let the Bad Times Roll"), interspersed with surprisingly addictive obscurities by Peter Maclaggan ("Leaving the Ground"), Alaska (Resistance"), Steve Durand ("Electrified and Ripe"), and Sky Signal ("L'Audible"), ending with a beautifully melodic rocker by The Doves called "There Goes the Fear." Who are these people? It is stunning to hear how well this soundtrack works as a complete listening experience. Why did I need a soundtrack album to introduce me to these artists? That used to be radio's job, but we all know we can no longer rely on the radio to introduce high quality new music. Apparently, that job has been assigned to film soundtracks.
I may never see this movie, but I'm willing to bet that "Catch and Release" will be the best soundtrack album of 2007. I need to get out more. A Tom Ryan

Perfectly Interwoven into Movie.......2007-02-11

One of those that will always bring scenes from the movie to mind. You can tell the choice of each song was critical to the director's vision for the movie.

Perry...never saw the trailer, but the song you mention sounds like Breathe (2 a.m.) by Anna Nalick...a very highly recommended album (Wreck of the Day).

With each new Dan Zanes and Friends release, many fans worry that his homespun magic will eventually hit the right note with the masses. Zanes' music, as offbeat as it is organic, is so special to forward-thinking young families that plenty have batted around half-baked plans to attach a password to it. Anybody else can sell out, the thinking goes, but please, please not him. Catch That Train, then, is bound to meet with a lot of hand-wringing. For one thing, it's the first Zanes and Friends release since the crazy-haired, asparagus-stalk thin artist started appearing in videos on the Playhouse Disney channel. For another, Starbucks has stepped in to lend a promotional hand. Those are ominous indicators indeed, but if the largely on-track Catch That Train proves anything, it's that Zanes isn't lock-stepping it with the boardroom goons just yet. Once again, the high-profile collaborators (The Blind Boys of Alabama, Nick Cave, Natalie Merchant) could cause a childless hipster to heed the all-aboard call, but also as on previous discs, it's the usual suspects who supply some of the strongest tracks: Barbara Brousal on "Mariposa Ole," Father Goose on "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie," and the Rubi Theater Company on "Walkin' the Dog." True, "Let's Shake" seems suspiciously TV-ready; skip it and pretend it never happened. Then keep your fingers crossed that, once this train leaves the station, Zanes--plainspoken hero to so many--won't trade it in for a stretch limo. --Tammy La Gorce

This is our sixth Dan Zanes album, and I guess one of them has to be our least favorite. I am sorry to say that Catch That Train! holds that dubious distinction in our household. I am not writing this review to slam the album, but merely to offer the opinion that if you are new to Dan Zanes, you may wish to consider one of his other albums first.

As other reviews have indicated, Dan Zanes is fun, loose and all about the sing-along. I suspect that's why he collaborates so often and so well. If you're looking for tight, sophisticated arrangements, look elsewhere. If you're looking for music that everyone can get into, music that is accessible to children without being cloying to adults, then start filling your cart. Bruce Springsteen gets a lot of credit for bringing the Seeger catalog and other folk treasures to younger audiences, but we think he got the idea from Dan! We love the folk/americana covers, Dan's originals and the songs that he pulls in from other cultural traditions. Here are the albums we own and how we'd rank them:

Dan Zanes has set a milestone for kids music, no more does parents have to be forced to listen to Barney or the Wiggles, (ugh!). With Dan Zanes, parents and kids can both enjoy the great sound and lyrics of classic fables set to a variety of musical beats. This is Dan's latest album, which we really enjoy on car trips or just to crank up while at home. You'll find yourself singing the music on here long after the kids have gone to bed.

Dan Zanes' music is fun and genuine and does not come across as so many recent bands that seem to be trying to cash in on Playhouse Disney and Noggin. He works with lots of guest musicians and the diversity is refreshing.

I was so impressed with this CD from beginning to end because it really exposes kids to different music styles. I now catch myself listening to some of the songs even when the kids aren't around. I think that this is the right kind of compilation for just lounging with your little ones - except of course that many of the songs do make you want to get up and boogie.

Celebrated and adored for his sanguine lyrics and irresistible hooks, Cat Stevens was one of the rare singer-songwriters capable of composing genuinely optimistic songs that didn't leave a sappy residue in listeners' ears. However, even a cursory listen to 1972's Catch Bull at Four proves that the Cat had seen darkness, too, and that those darker elements had become more pronounced than they'd been in the past. His vocal style shifts from the cool croon that made Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat top sellers to a harsher, almost growling delivery. The album's standouts--the wistful reverie "Sitting" and the delightfully infectious "Can't Keep It In"--are resolute in lyric and melody. Rambling, mystical odes such as "The Boy with a Moon & Star on His Head," "Angelsea," and "Sweet Scarlet" offer quaintly romantic imagery and lavishly undulating melodies. But it's the mercurial dynamics and driving melody of "18th Avenue (Kansas City Nightmare)" and the bitter conviction of "Ruins" that give the album a backbone and a sense of balance. --Sally Weinbach

Cat's Early Seventies' Transition.......2005-01-28
Cat Stevens' fourth album for A&M records is a definite treat. The first Cat Stevens LP to feature a promotional label: (2 different labels on one record), and I believe the first of those 4 albums to feature electrical instruments. This album contains the top 20 hit "Sitting" as well as the acoustic masterpiece "Boy with a moon and star on his head". Cat's first big rocker was "Freezing Steel" from side 2. Also included are "Angelsea" and "Silent Sunlight" which i think are the best ones on the album. The remastered CD has brilliant sound, just like the LP right out of the shrink wrap. If you are just discovering the sound of Cat Stevens, "Catch Bull At Four" is an excellent first choice. The musical energy will fill you up.
Undoubtedly one of the Cat's classic albums.......2004-10-23

It is unfortunate that many reviewers of `Catch bull at four' have tended to regard it as a poorer quality album than its two predecessors `Tea for the tillerman' and `Teaser and the Firecat'. I feel that this does the album a great injustice; no artist should be expected to remain unchanging in style, and if he had simply stayed with a winning formula after the success of `Teaser' Cat Stevens could rightly have been criticized. However, Stevens demonstrated integrity and vision throughout the early years of the 1970s, with each of his first five Island Records albums showing a clear progression and artistic development, even if on occasions (perhaps most notably `Foreigner') this was not always commercially successful.

After achieving a very focused and concise style on `Teaser', Cat Stevens understandably wanted to experiment with more unusual song structures and ambitious arrangements, and the result is a somewhat more stylistically diverse album than its predecessors. As a result it is, if anything, a stronger, more musically satisfying album, and includes new elements such as electric guitar, synthesizer, female backing vocalists and the accomplished keyboard work of Jean Roussel. At the same time, the album retains much of what made Cat's earlier work appealing, and also includes the welcome re-appearance of the bouzouki to add its distinctive sound to `O Caritas'.

The mood of the album is at times somber, reflecting Stevens' continuing spiritual pilgrimage at this time, and his deep feelings perhaps show through most in the opening track `Sitting' and the bleak closing song `Ruins'. Though there are a couple of weaker tracks (such as `Boy...' which has a pleasant arrangements but a rather tedious, over-long lyric, and `Angelsea' which is perhaps too dominated by synthesizer sounds), these can be appreciated as valid musical experiments, and are more than compensated for by other very appealing up-tempo tracks (such as `Sitting', `Can't keep it in' and `O Caritas'). The album contains several lovely ballads, such as `Sweet scarlet' and the madrigal-like `Silent sunlight', whilst the more complex song structure of `18th avenue', with its orchestral interlude and changing rhythms, hints at the direction Cat would take with his next album `Foreigner'. The whole package is enhanced by the crystal clear remastering, and restoration of the stylish original album artwork. Altogether, `Catch bull at four' can be regarded as a very satisfying album which, along with `Tillerman' and `Teaser' ranks among Cat Stevens' best work.

Like all of Cat Stevens' albums - about 2/3 superb .......2004-09-25
This seems to be a trend and applies to at least his first six A&M releases, except FOREIGNER, which was maybe 1/3 superb. Although "Silent Sunlight" and "Sweet Scarlet" are two of the most beautiful songs Cat Stevens ever recorded, I would recommend CATCH BULL AT FOUR on the strength of "18th Avenue" alone. That song is his studio masterpiece, in my opinion. And listen to the chanted chorus in "Angelsea". Supposedly the voices repeatedly chant "Oh, Carly Simon says, oh, Carly, why?". After all, she did have a romance with Cat Stevens shortly before meeting James Taylor. Could Cat Stevens be the subject of "You're So Vain"? Nahhh. The #1 candidate for that dubious honor is still Warren Beatty. Anyway, buy CATCH BULL.

A certain individual brought this album back to my attention which led me to dust this off and played it over the weekend. Plus I also saw a special on Marley in one of the music channels so I guess it was meant to be. It's really hard to imagine a time when reggae was not part of the cultural currency. Though Bob Marley and the Wailers cannot be said to have invented the style, they certainly brought it to the world stage, and this album was the torch that lit the way. "Catch a Fire" hit with the force of a revelation when it was released in 1973, and though Chris Blackwell tailored its sound with a rock audience in mind, the album was still unlike anything that had ever come down the pike. Ironically, even given its relatively full production and electric guitar solos, "Catch a Fire" sounds more organic and rootsy than any of the Wailers' subsequent releases.

While the percolating rhythms and burbling bass lines of the Barrett brothers, and the sweet, impeccable harmonies of Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer soothe and move, "Catch a Fire" also introduces the conscious, politically minded themes that would remain at the centre of Marley's songwriting for the rest of his career. "Concrete Jungle", one of the towering standout tracks, addresses the trap of inner cities, while "Slave Driver" and "400 Years" take on racial/historical issues. Yet Marley's penchant for striking love songs is evident here too on his all-time classic "Stir It Up".

This version has been digitally remastered which means that the sound quality is better but the music speeded up a little which may, or may not, please you... The tunes are varied and some such as 'Stir It Up' may be more recognizable to the more commercial listener yet there are several tracks here that haven't gained as much commercial success despite their classic sound. 'Kinky Reggae' and 'No More Trouble' become instant classics when you listen to this CD and the rest are all presented in the harmonious style that Bob Marley & The Wailers are renowned for.

Even after everything that followed, and the cult of idolatry that formed around Marley, this remains soulful, message-driven music that goes straight to the blood. Utterly essential. Though I have both version there equally exceptional in there own sound. For those seeking a more original style (or should I say original recording...) may do well to try and hunt down those Bob Marley albums that have not been digitally remastered where as those who prefer these fresher productions, and all those who want an introduction to the great reggae singer and his trusty support should look no further.....

Catch a Fire - The Classic Island Debut.......2007-03-02
When Bob Marley, Bunny Livingston (Wailer), and Peter McIntosh (Tosh)entered the studio and began recording Catch a Fire in 1972, they had already established an impressive track record on the island of Jamaica. But when they signed to Chris Blackwell's Island label, their music reached a new level. While reggae music had not been tremendously popular at this time, The Wailers proved their style of reggae was strong enough to carry a full-length album.
Not only is this album one of the best by Bob Marley and the Wailers, it is one of the best albums in the entire genre of reggae music, and here's why...up to this point, Bob, Peter, and Bunny have never sounded better. Their vocals and harmonies are suberb, their musicianship is just as impressive, and their song writing (Bob's in particular) is passionate (Concrete Jungle), personal (Slave Driver), and seductive (Stir It Up). Blackwell's production and mixing give the songs a crisper, more rock/dub influenced edge that really enhance the original recordings, and he really helped bring out the best in The Wailers. Any way you look at it, this album is a classic and a must-have for fans of reggae music.

Best debut ever?.......2006-12-04
I've heard some great albums, but few are better than Catch a Fire. This is Bob's masterpiece, and his best disc. It's better than even Exodus or Burnin'. There's not a single loser track on this album, and the first four songs (Concrete Jungle; Slave Driver; Stop That Train; 400 Years) are all pure gold. This ties Burnin' as Bob's most political album, but ironically the best on the album is a love song: Stir It Up, a true reggae classic. Really, I can't imagine any music collection, period, without Catch a Fire. Even the weakest song (Baby We've Got a Date) is far from bad. Most Marley albums, while generally good, have one or two filler songs. Catch a Fire has ZERO. Rush out and buy it. It's that simple.
Wailers' Classic Island Debut.......2006-09-11
By the time The Wailers began work on "Catch A Fire" in September 1972, the original group (Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Livingstone) had been together and making a lot of superb music for nearly a decade, but discounting the Leslie Kong-produced "Best Of The Wailers" (the title literally a misnomer, as it was not a compilation), until Island Records head Chris Blackwell bankrolled this project, they had never entered a studio to make an album. Classic singles for the Jamaican market, seminal collaborations with Lee Scratch Perry, self-produced gems on their own label, or Johnny Nash/Danny Sims JAD recordings all deserve to be heard and are easily available, but in 1973 the black music market had caught up with the trend that began in the mid 1960s when the Beatles, Bob Dylan, and Rolling Stones, who proved the youth/rock 'n' roll market was not just territory for singles, and the major artists of the era fought for artistic freedom and proved the 'album' was both artistically and commercially viable; thanks to the visionary work of Sly & The Family Stone, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, and others, the idea of a reggae album seemed viable, and The Wailers were just the band to surpass expectations and create a unified classic.
Of course that great band was not together long enough to make very many. The great rhythm section of Aston and Carlton Barett (from Lee Perry's Upsetters) joined the original trio around 1969-70, but following the release of The Wailers' second great album, "Burnin", late in 1973, Bunny Livingston left, and in 1974 Peter Tosh split as well, so that by the time of 1975's "Natty Dread" the group was billed as Bob Marley & The Wailers, and it was clear just who would be the visual focus (or star) and creative force, though the Barretts especially continued to make Marley's great songs and vision into viscerally exciting music.
The "Catch A Fire" available on the single cd is a great album, on just about every level that matters. The songs - seven by Marley, two by Tosh - are very good to classic - the socially concious songs always seem personal, and the album is enriched with terrific and sexy pleasures such as "Kinky Reggae", "We've Got A Date" and "Stir It Up." If the lyrics lapse, the melodies and rhythms never falter, and Blackwell's post-production - adding ex-Free and Johnny Nash keyboardist Rabbit, and guitarist Wayne Perkins (best known for his work on the Stones' "Black And Blue") and a new mix - keeps the album texturally engrossing. Blackwell's intent may have been to make the album more 'commercial,' but the result is actually a hypnotic, almost dub-like effect, and compared to the original Wailers' production, the songs seem to be somehow moving in slow motion - an illusion, not the result of actually slowing down the tapes.
This brings me to the next point: if you love this album, you should really get the 2-cd "Deluxe Edition" which provides the familiar Island classic, in a marvelous remaster, plus the unissued "Jamaican" (Wailers) version, before the tapes were worked on in London. Both versions are wonderful, the Wailers' original clearly a bridge between the group's previous recordings (especially from 1969 - 72, when Perry and the Barretts became involved) and the Island years. The mixes are more direct, each vocal and instrumental part more clearly defined, and the vocal harmonies of the original trio more upfront in the mix. It is clear some of the lead vocals were re-done, as there are some slight lyrical variations. The soul and charisma are evident on both versions, and I'm glad to be able to alternate depending on my mood. I should mention that the two bonus tracks are both superb: "High Tide or Low Tide" is a gorgeous and passionate gem worthy of Curtis Mayfield at his best, while "All Night All Day" is a nifty vocal showcase with a groove and lyrics that show just how immersed the Wailers were in American soul music. "Catch A Fire" was one of only two classic studio albums made by the Marley/Tosh/Bunny/Barretts lineup, and I recommend without reservation the Deluxe edition; it's twice as much of one of the great albums of its era, in any genre.
Reggae Classic.......2006-05-07

"Catch a Fire" is an excellent debut album by the Wailers. All the original Wailers are there including Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. Their performance here is electric. The album was released in 1973 and it was this album that got me hooked to reggae music. This is the album that popularized reggae. Wailer fans will find this a treat. Listeners will enjoy the excellent instrumentation: the guitar, keyboards and percussion combined with gentle and soothing vocals to complete an exhilarating picture.

The songs in the album address serious social and political issues. Some of the songs include "Slave Driver", "Concrete Jungle", "Stop that Train", "No More Trouble" and my favourite song on the album "Stir it Up".

For me, this is the best and most creative album by the Wailers with its classic roots reggae. This is great music even for those that are not reggae fans. When I need to lift my spirits up, I play this album. I always feel better afterwards.

Very disappointing, considering what it could have been.......2007-04-20
Take a look at the running times:

Disc 1: 60 minutes
Disc 2: 50 minutes
Disc 3: 61 minutes
Disc 4: 58 minutes

What gives Silva? There is *MUCH* more John Williams in the silva screen back catalogue by the Prague Philharmonic than what is in this set, and thats not including their entire discs devoted to Star Wars Films, Indiana Jones Trilogy etc. Why isn't Hook "When You're Alone" included on Disc 2? There's room. Why isn't 1941 on Disc 1? There's room. Why isn't Earthquake on Disc 3? There's room. Why isn't Far and Away on disc 4? There's room. Where's the other ten minutes of the Rare Breed suite on disc 3? Why isn't Midway on disc 1? Where are the Land of the Giants, Time Tunnel and Lots In Space tv themes? Etc. Etc. Etc.

C'mon Silva, most of these 4 disc mega boxes released in the past few years are packed to the brim, but not this one, and with new recordings made after this was released (the terminal, munich, geisha, war of the worlds, star wars ep 3, harry potter 3), it only makes sense for a "re-do" in the next couple of years.

Further, with Silva releasing the 100 Greatest Film Themes on six discs in a couple of months, it's only a matter of time before we see the ultimate six disc john williams set.

This isn't a BAD set to own, but it could have been much better and when compared to the Jerry Goldsmith and John Barry sets in this same series, this one is a major letdown.

I listen to music all day with patients in my dental chair. This one is a winner with everyone. Patients always comment on how they recognize a song. Who doesn't love John Williams? His music transcends time.

This 4 cd pack is an anthology of all John Williams works. From his earlier works "The Poseidon Adventure" and "Jaws" right through "Indiana Jones" and the most recent"Star Wars" prequel movies are included. Williams work in thriller and horror are also included. If you are into soundtracks and love movie music this is an essential buy. The quality of the music is excellent. With ten or more tracks on each cd it's well worth the money.

This four CD set expands on the previously released John Williams Greatest Hits. It's a grand collection of nearly four hours of famous music scores from over forty years. There are many songs never before available in any collection. The short liner notes tell a great tale of musical movie history and include all of his numerous award nominations and wins. Each song (oddly enough) mentions the actors and the director, so fond are John Williams's memories of his work with these people. All of the conductors are mentioned along with specific orchestras, choirs, arrangement and orchestration specialists and even the publishers (contractual, I am sure). The only things missing are his early television scores, such as those for "Lost In Space" (by Johnny Williams back then). But with four discs, one has nothing to complain about and everything to enjoy!

I have been a huge fan of John Williams and I have known about his music for years. However, I never actually bought any of his music on CD. I was rather skeptical about purchasing this CD but when it arrived I knew I had made the right choice. The sound quality of the compilation is outstanding. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra do a great job under the direction of Paul Bateman. The original London Symphony Orchestra CDs of John Williams' Star Wars Trilogy CDs are marginally better but this is still a great CD compilation. If you love ET, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter, you will love this compilation soundtrack. Buy it, listen to these CDs in the car and enjoy every minute of the collection!!!

Perfect roadtrip music for kids and parents too.......2007-05-02
We bought this for the baby when she was five months old almost two years ago in Woodstock at a wonderful little kid's store. What a find! The baby immediately loved it, but so did my then-five year old son. And so did my husband and I--the lovely renditions of folk and traditional and original work are wonderful. It bears the inevitable repeated listenings and is my now-two-year-old's favorite album still. I recently included the cover of Dylan's "New Morning" on a mix I made for my adult friend to celebrate her divorce. It's not really kids' music, at least not only kid's music. Buy this, and if you like it, buy everything by Elizabeth Mitchell, like You Are My Sunshine. You won't be sorry.

So they're not actually from Milwaukee but coming from Austin, TX you get the feeling these guys can certainly appreciate a good 12-pack of beer (the quartet actually named itself after a line in a Jerry Lee Lewis song). Freshly signed to Barsuk, the indie home to the likes of John Vanderslice and Nada Surf, the best this quartet can muster is to reissue its two-year-old debut, Trying Never To Catch Up. Not that anyone would complain--the album has ideas to spare, veering from scrappy noise rock ("Selling Yourself Short") and blurry power pop ("Hellodrama") to a couple of Jeff Buckley-inspired flights and something called "Bldg. a Boat From the Boards in Your Eye," a psychedelic romp that is either meant to pay tribute or torment fellow Texans, the Polyphonic Spree. Through it all, the group affirms that it's never too shy to hit on a solid melody. --Aidin Vaziri

I can't believe these guys were hanging out for two years with most of this album self-released. This album is not merely the sum of their influences. They may not be the next Shins or Death Cab, but I do think this band has the same "it factor." Beware those who get hung up on repetitive lyrics, because most of this album is about failed relationships. But instead of freshening up or glossing over depressing and angst-ridden lyrics, musically they shift gears and mix it up. They find a way to make it work, and the more I listen to this album the more I like it.

Already my number two album of 2006 behind Silversun Pickups and just ahead of another new Austin band, The Sound Team.

I accidently ran across them when flipping the TV remote and caught their Austin City Limits show on 11/19/05 with Franz Ferdinand. Immediately, I was captivated by the lead singer's, Michael Kingcaid, voice on I Decide. I caught the show again, (I already had the CD) at a later date and found it to be a great show all the way. You can clearly tell who their influences are. The last song performance in the Austin City Limits show, Bldg. a Boat from the Boards in Your Eye, had a Beatles "All You Need is Love" feel. I missed them in Houston last year, but will catch them in the Sept 19th show! Grab this CD and you will not be disappointed.

What Made Milwaukee Famous is a true treat to experience. Although the album was only recently released, they've had the exact same album (plus and minus one or two songs) out that they promoted and self-released many years earlier. I had the joy of listening to them live at Stubb's Bar-B-Que when they were one of the opening bands for Snow Patrol. However, it should have been the other way around that night with Snow Patrol opening for them.

So if you feel like taking a chance on a new band, do not hesitate to try 'Trying to Never Catch Up,' you will be so happy that you did.

Catch the Moon is a children's album recorded by longtime friends Lisa Loeb & Elizabeth Mitchell. Liz Mitchell is a noted performer of children's music and key member of the modern rock band Ida. The package also contains a children's book written by Erin Courtney and illustrated by Brooke Mitchell, who is Elizabeth's mom. The book is based on the CDs title song which was written by Lisa, Elizabeth, Elizabeth's husband and longtime musical partner Daniel Littleton and engineer Warren Defever (also known for his own records on the 4AD label under the moniker His Name Is Alive).
In additional to the title track, the music CD of Catch The Moon features traditional American family favorite folk songs like "Big Rock Candy Mountain," "Oh Susanna," "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Little Red Caboose." Loeb and Mitchell also adapted traditional folk songs from around the world including Japanese "Donguri," the French "Fais Do Do" and the Spanish "La Manita." There's a version of Bob Dylan's "New Morning" that sounds like it was always meant to be in this soothing, uplifting company, and a handful of new songs by Lisa and Elizabeth written especially for this project

I listen to this CD even when my daughters aren't with me. I think this is Lisa Loeb at her best and I can't wait until she comes out with more children's music. Her lyrics are fun and imaginative. My daughter loves to listen to her 'moon' song. I know these songs are going to be great childhood memories for both them and me.

I love this CD...received it as a gift from a fellow mom friend and I absolutely love it. I catch myself singing songs from it all the time. The Wiggles and Raffi are great but this is a relaxing and fun CD to listen to in the car and I don't mind listening to it over and over again. My faves are La Manita, Stop and Go, Groundhog, and Fais Do Do.

Lisa Loeb sounds wonderful- the C.D. is worth buying- I have a 15 month old, and a 3 year old, and they both love almost every song! especially their rendition of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", "New Morning", and of course- "Catch the Moon"...They dance around the living room and laugh and sing to this! Buy it! You won't regret it-

I came to this project by way of Tommy Stinson. I've been a huge Replacements fan for a long time as well as a fan of Tommy's various other projects. I wasn't very familar with BT before this, but the electronica thing turned me off a bit. I buy everything Tommy does, so i picked it up and immediately fell in love with it. It's mostly acoustic guitar picking with soft atmospherics layered behind it. The only complaint i have is that some of the songs are too short, but that's to be expected because these songs were written for specific scenes in the movie. This record is very mellow and moody; I recommend it to fans of Tommy or anybody into relaxing music.

I have to confess that I've always loved the old Donovan songs and his suggestive slightly imperfect voice.
If you are like me it is the best CD you can by in the world.
A Nice Complication of Donovan's Early Work.......2006-07-18
This is a folk type record with Donovan accompanying himself on guitar and harmonica. Though many people of the day were heralding Donovan as the British Dylan, his music is really quite different. True he does play the harmonica, but Donovan has a melodic voice that Dylan, and most anyone else for that matter, could ever equal. "Josie" is one of my all time favorite Donovan songs. I heard him sing it when I was sixteen at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach, California and was really blown away.

Of course, "Catch the Wind" Donovan's first huge single is everybody's favorite (if it's not it should be) and as a bonus the single version is included on this disc as well as the LP version. But one should not overlook "Colours" when listening to Don's early work. It's one of my favorite songs. "The War Drags On," is an anti Vietnam war song and I wish I was alive back in the day to see how people reacted to it. "Candy Man" is simply outstanding. I've heard Bob Dylan's version on the bootleg "Great White Wonder," and believe me, Dylan may have turned out to be the Poet of a Generation, but Donovan beats him hands down when it comes to performing and interpreting traditional songs. Just something about his Scottish voice I guess.

and suceeded jut like bob dylan did with his first 3 or 4 albums
anyway donovan is a talent that goes vasely un-noticed due to the sucession of bob dylan..who wrote excellent lyrics in his sleep.....
donovan also wrote excellent lyrics and beautiful melodies and this album shows where donovan could make abstract songs packed with a punch like "sunny goodge street" and his classic recording "universal solider" this album also features my favorites "the war drags on" "do you hear me now"
