I think this is going to be good if this is the brand new Oklahoma? I like partically all the songs except for Poor Jud is Daid and Lonely Room. I would go for the ballet but I really don't like that either. I like all the rest though.

I think this cd is going to be really good because it will not have a London accent but I'm not saying that it will be bad. Hope to know more information soon.

I think that would be a good cd to have at home if I knew what it sounded like I probably would enjoy it. I saw this group act a week ago yesterday. So I will be checking for more information.

Not such a great sampling...........2001-01-21

Some of these songs are really stretching for a romantic mood. Especially some of the On the Town songs. It's not that they're not good though....All of this music is from other CDs that have been already been released. Don't limit yourself to just these songs. Go ahead and buy the other recordings. Deutsche Grammophon did the On the Town recording along with West Side Story and Candide. I'd recommend a different recording of West Side Story though. The one of Wonderful Town is the kinda newly released complete version of the musical. It's a good but expensive one. Also, this recording left out some of THE greatest love songs from Peter Pan (Dream of Me, Peter Peter), Trouble in Tahiti (Well of all people, There is A Garden, Finale), 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue (Seena, Lud's Wedding), and Quiet Place (There is so much, too much). I think this recording, though okay, is a stumbling block to finding out about the real Bernstein saga of musicals. And if you are still getting this recording, the sound quality is really good. West Side Story is done by the masters of the opera so they sing it that way. Candide is operetic too, but then again it is an operetta. That's about all I have to say on this recording.

This is a nice collection of Bernstein miscellany. Note however that the West Side Story, On the Town, and Candide are the "operatic" versions, with Te Kanawa and Carreras, Von Stade and Hampson, and Jerry Hadley, respectively. Bernstein conducts WSS and Candide and Tilson Thomas OTT. The surprise is the bits from Wonderful Town, which was recorded on JAY, not DG like the others. Featuring Ron Raines and Rebecca Luker, it's probably the most authentically "Broadway" of this set.

An excellent Bernstein anthology with a few unusual choices.......2005-09-21

Bernstein basically spent half his recording life at Clumbia, now Sony, and the other half at DG. Although the composer's Columbia years produced his best work as conductor of his own music, DG has triumphed with a greatest hits'greatest bits anthology. Everything on here has been well chosen and paced in such a way that you can listen form beginning to end and feel that you've been enriched.

A good sampling of Bernstein.......1998-12-27

This 2 CD set includes a wide variety of Bernstein music, many or all taken from other CDs and put together for a Ballet Revue by John Neumeier. You will be taken from Maestro Bernstein's light-hearted work to the more serious compositions. Truly a "full Bernstein" collection although one could wish for something from Chichester Psalms. There are so many wonderful numbers included on this 2 CD set, that I would recommend it with one major caution. I felt that the rendition of "A Simple Song" by Cheryl Studer was abrasive and not at all like the beautiful song that it should be. Still, I had not heard Bernstein's "Anniversaries" (works for piano played by Sebastian Knauer, apparently written for various people... alas, the notes don't fill me in on these!) and they are little gems, the musical theater selections were pure Bernstein (and showed a bit of where Sondheim came from). Judy Blazer is a delight, Roberta Alexander sounds lovely, and Gidon Kremer, performing in the Serenade after Plato's Symposium was quite enjoyable. My only big disappointment aside from the Studer song is that there is no video (to my knowledge) of this dance performance.

A Good One.......2003-08-23

If you can tell that this cd was recorded on home recording equipment, your ears are better than mine.
These guys have been hoofin' it in the local bars for 30 years, and this cd (their 2nd) was recorded entirely in Mike Hughey's living room on his digital recorder. The production is excellent, and, in my opinion, indistinguishable from any studio recording.
All the songs are original compositions written by Hughey and Randy Hoggatt. Although each song is unique, the entire cd has a good continuity to it. Hoggatt does most of the heavy work on vocals and guitar, and Hughey did all the production and engineering.
Whether or not you like this cd depends on your musical tastes, but I think 'Changes' is an excellent piece of work that these guys should be proud of.

It's amazing, this digital age. Here are two guys who have been hoofing it in local bars for 30 years, then decided to make their own record. They wrote all the songs, then produced & engineered the entire album on a home digital studio, and did a fine job of it. Randy Hoggatt probably could have 'made it' as a musician if he'd been willing to leave Coffeyville, Ks., and Mike Hughey is an extremely talented producer/engineer. They both respect each other's particular talents and it shows in this CD. Hoggatt does the heavy work performance-wise, doing almost all the lead vocals and guitar work, whereas Hughey did all the production and engineering.

To their credit, they don't sound like anybody else. At the same time, the entire CD has a good, consistant ambience.

Whether or not you like the cd will depend on your musical tastes, but 'Changes' is certainly a professional piece of work that these guys should be proud of.
